Kiyohiko Azuma (東清彦 or あずまきよひこ Azuma Kiyohiko) is a Japanese manga author and artist. His most well-known work is Azumanga Daioh. His current series is Yotsuba&!, which is serialized monthly in Dengeki Daioh magazine.
What a wonderful volume! This was my favorite of the series so far. I absolutely love Yotsuba. I wish my life was as fun as hers! (I also wish that I lived in a beautiful and quiet Japanese city instead of a dirty and ugly Russian industrial hellhole, but that's beside the point).
And thus we reach the ending for Yotsuba&!, at least for now. :( Probably will take another year or so before new material/new volumes pop up.
I will miss Yotsuba. I loved her antics in Volume 9,10,11 and this one. She keeps getting funnier and more interesting. Loved that she painted her dads table all blue and how he punished her for spreading paint everywhere. Also the camping trip was fantastic, and so I could go on with the things that happen that were fun. I can just say, I had a great time reading this.
However one thing I would like to see, more clothes for Yotsuba. She always has the same pants (short or long, depending on season) and shirt (short or long, again seasonal). I know she has other clothes too, and I would like to see some variety in what she wears.
Other than that, Yanda must still be deleted from the face of the earth. God he stays annoying and mean. :\
Well I will be (im)patiently waiting for the next volume.
Another cute volume, this time with camping, Halloween, paint, tying a bow and getting a bike helmet. I love how Koiwai is always so patient with not only Yotsuba but Ena and Miura, as well as hiw easily he gets along with Fuuka, Asagi, Torako and the parents. Asagi and Fuuka are spare in this volume, but being older it makes sense since they have more to do in school. Really liking how this brings a lot of Japanese culture into it, and the discussion of what is Halloween was interesting- I didn't know it was that uncomon in Japan.
more yanda-hating good times in this volume. i just love yotsuba's face in general. also delighted by her pranking miura's mom. "i turned your shoe over." so funny.
Min favoritdel i serien so far!
8/10 Imagine spending ten years of your working life just drawing four months in the life of a five year old girl. (Now it's actually almost twenty years, but Volume 12 came out in 2013, when the author was only ten years inside the series.) Azuma can reach zen levels of peacefulness in this work. To me, Yotsuba&! is a masterwork in exploration of silent house corner, silent street views and silent facial expressions, disguised as a humour strip about a funny little girl. While still working as a humour strip, at least on this aging dispirited soul of mine.
Yotsubaaaaaaaa, don't leave meeeee. Translators, translate new stuff (is there new stuff?) faster! I wish I could see a little bit more how Yotsuba is growing up and changing, but ... also I hope she never really grows up. What an inspiration to starry-eyed dreamers of all ages.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every volume of this series, but this one feels even a step above than usual. Maybe it’s the perfect 12-page opening sequence. Maybe it’s the perfect final page. Or maybe the kindness and joy characteristic of this series is perfectly captured on every page in between.
We should all aspire to enjoy life as much as Yotsuba does.
idk why this one felt a little different?? but wow revived memories...tbt to our asian moms/aunts, leaning their heads on one hand while pai pai/patting us to sleep :'<<<
In this Yotsuba collection, Yotsuba chases geese, she welcomes Tora into the neighbors' home and learns to tie a bow, Yotsuba finds some paint and decides to spruce up the house a little, Yotsuba gets a helmet (and faces repercussions for her painting spree), Fuuka and Miss Take introduce Yotsuba to Halloween, and then Yotsuba and Daddy go camping with Jumbo, Yanda, Ena, and Muira.
My favorite part of this was the painting episode and the repercussions Yotsuba has to face. They are hilarious! The camping experience is pretty entertaining too. And it is funny to hear how confused Fuuka and Miss Take are about Halloween's origins. I'm really sad because I don't have any more Yotsuba books on hand waiting to read now. It has been my go-to read when other things I'm reading get too heavy or boring. I guess I'll just have to re-read what we do have. This whole series is a fantastic all-ages humorous manga.
This is one of the first manga I've ever read, and it's definitely a worthwhile series. Kiyohiko Azuma delivers once again in the 12th installment of the lighthearted adventures of a green-haired little girl named Yotsuba. No fanservice, screaming, or trash-talking in this manga, folks.
Here, we get to see Yotsuba learn about the luxury of paint, trick-or-treating, and camping under the stars. The art has clearly improved, and the backgrounds are as realistic as ever. The humor is never over-the-top, but manages to deliver mostly through Yotsuba's antics.
Often times, it's a bit difficult for someone who has never read manga or watched anime to start a series, but I find that Yotsuba&! is quite accessible to virtually any age.
I am so sad that this is the last volume for now (hopefully). Yotsuba is hilarious, even though it bothers me slightly how demanding she is. My kids and I can't seem to get enough of her and the last few weeks we have been quoting Yotsuba to one another and giggling. Pure fun.
This series never fails to satisfy. Always full of heart and laughter! I think my kawaii meter would explode if there was ever a Yotsuba&! and Hello Kitty crossover.
This was super cute and probably my favorite of the Yotsuba&! series. I'm kinda sad that its finally over. Like all good things, you don't want this to come to an end.....
