Billionaire Archer Bancroft always gets what he wants—and he’s wanted Ivy Emerson, his best friend’s sister, for far too long. Being forbidden and untouchable only makes her more tempting. When a million-dollar bet with his friends throws down a challenge—last bachelor standing takes all—Archer knows he can win. That is, until one enchanted evening with Ivy takes his heart for a ride.
Ivy knows Archer is nothing but bad news: Infuriating, arrogant…and completely intoxicating. But despite her best efforts, she can’t seem to keep away. When a stolen kiss leads to a night of heated passion, Ivy realizes she’s in trouble and in head over heels.
But in the light of day, everything seems clearer and Archer’s not so sure a one-night stand is all he wants. Concocting a plan to keep Ivy by his side, Archer might just be willing to lose this bet…and win the jackpot instead.
Again I don't mean to give my own book 5 stars like I'm all cool and shiz and think my writing's amazing. But dang it, someone gave it 2 stars and I got tired of seeing those two sad little stars for a book that no one but me, my editor and Katy Evans has read...
So let me tell you a little bit about this series:
-- It's more adult romance vs. new adult. Like a meshing of my Monica self and my Karen Erickson self.
-- Still written in first person, alternating points of view though. Love being in the guy's head.
-- Three rich friends decide to bet big money they won't ever ever ever fall in love and...
-- I of course have them fall and fall HARD. Yeah baby yeah!
-- Archer is a sexy beast.
-- Ivy is fun and smart. She isn't a whimpering virgin. Well, Archer might make her whimper but that's in a good way right? *wink wink nudge nudge*
-- There are three books in the series and the next one will feature Ivy's big brother Gage. Mmm...Gage...
-- Third book will be out in early 2014 and you'll meet Matt. Oooh Matt...
Crave is the first book in the Billionaire Bachelors Club by Monica Murphy. To be honest, I had mixed feelings about reading this story, and here's why: There's not a low or middle income hero left in the country, and it's not likely a twenty something Billionaire Bachelor would be interested in a fifty something grandma of 4, like me. So where's the potential for a realistic, rock-my-socks fantasy in that, I ask you? There isn't one. Not. A. One. Of course, again to be honest, there's probably not a low or middle income twenty something hero who'd want to rock-my-socks, either. Where were these guys when I was twenty something??
But I digress.
In general there seems to be an overabundance of stories about millionaires, billionaires, and trillionaires. Sheikhs, princes, cowboys, doctors, businessmen, rakes, rogues, jocks, vampires, shifters... Everyone is wealthy. Everyone is retina burning gorgeous. Everyone is single. Everyone is... well... frankly, cookie cutter.
Everyone, that is, except Archer Bancroft. Yes, he's single. Yes, he's a bjillionaire. Yes, he's gorgeous. But he's also got this non-tortured vulnerability about him that I simply couldn't resist! And because he's not all world-weary and tormented, I didn't feel all stressed and angsty and didn't feel the need to fix him. To deal with his drama.
I. Hate. Drama.
So instead of my fantasies being stifled by the dreadful task of bringing him home and fixing him, I was able let loose and fantasize about bringing him home and loving him until neither of us could walk straight.
Just tellin’ it like it is.
Archer and Ivy are a great couple. This is a friends to lovers tale, except friends might be an exaggeration. How about, a tolerant to lovers tale? Yes, that's more like it. It was fun watching them fight against their attraction for one another, Archer falling back on "the-last-bachelor-standing" bet as his excuse for not giving in to his feelings. Ivy really is a great heroine, especially given what she has to deal with - an obnoxious brother and his obnoxious friends - girl deserves a medal.
Anyway, I'm rambling... I really did enjoy this story. I've read that it's a great cross between New Adult and Contemporary Romance, and I can see that. So if you're looking for something new but don't want to deal with the angst of New Adult, then you should give this a try.
I'm excited about the next book, and can't wait to read it! There's something about Gage that I find super intriguing, and I absolutely have to have his story!
My thanks to Avon Books for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
QUICK REVIEW SPOILER FREE -mature content reader discretion is advised. 3.5 STARS out of 5 Genre: Contemporary Romance
In Crave we meet Archer, Gage and Matthew; three arrogantly wealthy bachelors who decide falling in love and getting married is nowhere in their future plans. Of the three, Archer Bancroft is the first to fall for loves trap with none other than Ivy Emerson the little sister of his best friend, Gage.
Ivy and Archer have never seen eye to eye. In fact the conversations they have are more so considered as arguments. Ivy has no idea that for many years now Archer has been attracted to her and would DEFINITELY like to explore that feeling... And a friend's wedding is about to give him a chance to do so.
Ivy recently just had a bad breakup so she is not in the best of moods and going to a wedding filled with happy couple’s dancing the night away is not helping. AT ALL. When Archer approaches her and asks to dance she gladly accepts..knowing his real motive is to keep the other women away. However she soon regrets her decision when Archer says something to piss her off.
After going outside to get some much needed air Ivy finds herself in very…ummmm..tight situation with Archer. *Smirks* That tight situation involves his hand up her dress, lots of kissing and an ORGASM that ROCKS. HER. WORLD.
‘If he caught me with my hand in his sister’s panties and her body draped all over me, I’d be a dead man.’ –Archer
After the wedding neither Ivy nor Archer can get the other out of their mind. When a business proposition put’s Ivy and Archer together sparks ignite into a fiery blaze. But that blaze quickly turns to embers when Archer yet again puts his foot in his mouth with a smart remark directed towards Ivy.
I swear this guy just can't win. And I kinda felt sorry for him at one point. You see, Archer has not revealed his feelings for Ivy to his friends and that becomes a bit of a complication. And she is not happy about it.
What will it take for Archer to prove himself to Ivy?
And how will Gage react to his best friend and his baby sister hooking up?
Only one way to find out!
My Thoughts This book was not exactly what I expected. However I still liked it. Plus it was told in dual pov's which always makes me happy! The romance was sweet and very sexy. But overall the story line was a little predictable, thus the 3.5. I am a HUGE Monica Murphy fan and I love love LOVE her Drew and Fable series. This one just failed to hit the spot for me personally. So yes, I liked it but I did not love it. Do I think readers should give it a chance? Yes! If you are looking for a quick, sweet and sexy romance.. Read Crave!

Okay, so this is the story of Archer and Ivy. Archer is a broken guy, owner of an empire of Hotels destined to couples. One day, he and his also-sexy-and-billionaires-and-commitment-phobic friends make a bet: The first one who got himself “itched” pays 1 million dollars. The winner (last one standing, by this logic) takes it all. But then enters Ivy, his best-friends little sister, the only girls Archer wants and the one he knows he can’t have. But after a steamy night everything changes… and not even a bet can keep Archer from getting what he wants now.
This was an… entertaining book. A reading good when you have little time or after an emotion-draining one. First the heroine annoyed the hell out of me. This isn’t new, they normally do, but Ivy especially annoyed me. I mean… What kind of set me off was not the length, the character development (which was almost none) or the extreme predictability. When I read a “light and fluffy” book I’m counting on it being predictable so I don’t rate based on that. What actually set me off was the writing style that was not great. And from the author who wrote the “Drew + Fable” series… that was amazing, I was expecting so much more. But anyway, it was cute so you probably should give a try ;) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
3.5 Just What A Reader Might Want Stars * * *1/2 Spoiler Free Sometimes, a gal just Craves a little fun, romance, and real sexy experiences. Doesn't have to be deep, thought-provoking, and heavy angsty drama.... just wanting a little setup, meet, learn a bit about the players, know there will be some conflict down the line but with delicious sex that makes sense.
Ms. Murphy writes excellent sex... tension, anticipation, and pay off. I think if the reader understands this is not a big book, they will enjoy it.
This book was...okay. The characters were kinda flat, the story line PREDICTABLE and the only reason that I read on was because I really loved the author's previous series.
Sadly, reading on and finishing wasn't worth my time at all. Maybe it's just me.
Crave was a wonderful sexy smut fix with a hot successful businessman in it!
Meet Archer "Dark hair, dark eyes, tall and broad with odd that's hard and muscular without being over the top; he is downright swoon-worthy"
And the only girl that makes him go wild and is Ivy Emerson and is she is prohibited!! Why? Best friend's sister! Life is definitely a bitch in this case!
So, what happens when they both are leave together?
"Want me inside you?" "Good. Because I can't fucking wait to be inside you"
Loved this! there's nothing like a friends to lovers/Best friend's little sister--type love stories! they get me every time. This was short, sweet and low-angst. Perfect for a little change-up and easily read in a day. I loved Archer, loved Ivy and loved how they exploded together after years of argumentative back and forth! Add in the pissed off big brother-Gage--and you have a sure-fire hit! Definitely continuing this series!!
Archer is the first up in the Billionaire Bachelors Club Series. And not only is he rich & fuck hot he is lusting after his best friends little sister, Ivy. This is a new side of Monica Murphy and I like it!
Archer is certain he will never get tied down. There is no woman out there that he wants for more than a few nights, well that's not true. There is one. Ivy is Gage's little sister and once she grew out of her awkward teen years, Archer has had to hold himself back from claiming her as his own. But when they join forces one night to ward off the ladies ready to throw their panties at him - things ignite. Now that Archer has has tasted her lips, felt her come undone with his hands - he craves more.
But one night of forbidden sex is left behind as a one night stand and it just increased his need to have her. Now he has a plan to get her close enough so that he can seduce her back into his bed and maybe this time she'll stay...
How I feel about the little sister fetish....
It was like it was my fucking birthday.
And Archer, yeah he was pretty much perfect.
And while Archer chases little Ivy we get a lot of this and a whole lot of that...
Well, my optimism and excitment for this story was totally destroyed. In only 100 pages I've read about almost every predictable thing that can happen in romance novel, which is not what I hoped it'd be. I loved previous series written by Monica Murphy, because it was unique and interesting, Crave unfortunately is the opposite: boring and predictible. I didn't have to read to the end to know how it'll go.
From the moment, I met Archer, Gage and Matthew I smiled. These boys are modern day Dukes, Rogues and Scoundrels. They are each flawed, strong, opinionated and so poised to fall for the right woman. Archer is gorgeous from his crooked smile to his touchable locks. The man is destine to lose and lose big.. His childhood has him running from anything that looks like commitment, and it was fascinating learning about him from his driven need to succeed to his unraveling. Ivy is successful and confident but has had boyfriend issues. She is by nature a fixer and tends to be drawn to men who have issues.
The romance in Crave addresses several tropes, forbidden romance, lovers to haters and friends to lovers. Murphy’s twist on this was scintillating from the heat to the banter, and I couldn’t get enough. The bet as the overall arc to this series is a fun trope, and I cannot help but be overjoyed and seeing so many of the elements I love in historical romances brought into a modern day story. From their careers to their issues I found Archer and Ivy to be genuine and interesting. The pace was well done with moments of heat and a few twists to complicate things. Of course, Archer makes mistakes but nothing was overdone or drawn out keeping the angst low. This allowed me to completely escape and enjoy the adventure.
Crave was a fun, wicked and romantic ride. I am looking forward to continuing the series with Torn and Savor.
I just love Monica Murphy. She is able to suck me right into a book and I can't stop turning the pages. Kids need breakfast - um, you can pour cereal, right? What? It's lunch time? Didn't you just eat breakfast? I was rendered useless through the afternoon.
The book is told in alternating POV from Archer and Ivy. I love the names!
Archer and his wealthy buddies make a bet about staying bachelors forever, blah blah. You can see where this is going immediately.
What I LOVE about Crave: - no insta love. Archer and Ivy have known each other forever and they always seem to irritate each other. But when they get together, they are HOT! - Archer - dimples, abs, messed up hair, and he's filthy rich. He's never wanted more from women and thought he didn't deserve Ivy. - Ivy is NOT a virgin. THANK GOD. If I have to read one more book about a billionaire seducing a virgin I may vomit. - HOT SEX - And it's sweet. Both Archer and Ivy want each other desperately, but they are afraid of each other too.
CH - NOPE!
HEA - YES
1st in the series, but the other books will focus on other characters.
Archer Bancroft and Ivy Emerson have known each other since she was a preteen with braces. In fact Archer is one of her brother, Gage's, best friends. At the wedding of one of their friends, Archer, Gage and former baseball star turned entrepreneur Matt Deluca, form a bet that the last one of them left standing, and single, after a year would be the recipient of a million dollars from any of them who'd fallen in love and gotten married.
Archer had a distant relationship with his bickering parents and believes he's the last one to ever even consider marriage, given that the only girl he would even consider would be Ivy. But since they argue any time they are near each other and he's convinced Gage would kill him, there's not risk.... Right?
But at the wedding, during a particularly intense fight with Ivy, she and Archer take the intense feelings a little further than either of them intended, while at the wedding.
Then they go ever further when Ivy and Gage stay over night before returning home.
But when Archer tells Ivy it was a mistake, she's heartbroken ...
Archer does some stupid things to try to keep the bet from Ivy and his best friends from knowing what's happening between them, for many reasons. But can he give her up when all is said and done?
There were funny moment, and really HOT moments. There were sweet moments and sad. I liked this one. Archer treats Ivy likes she's still that bumbling little girl running after her brother and friends, calling her "Chicken" as a nick name, which makes her crazy. Ivy's been over her crush on Archer since she realized he was a serial dater with no intention of ever getting serious about anyone. And that was when she was a teenager. Once things change between them, she's more confused then ever and Archer's insecurities don't help the situation. He doesn't know how to show her how he feels about her and he does everything wrong. But, the journey is fun and sexy.
This was just ok for me. No love or hate. It seemed rushed. It was a quick book. I really never felt the instant connection that Archer and Ivy had. The backstory of relationship was briefly explored. I thought the two of them were well suited for each other though. When they were going back forth with each other between lusting and arguing I felt the spark. I liked that we were in their heads a lot and knew their motives. I don't have alot to say in this review because I just didn't have strong feelings towards the story. I'm definitely a big fan of Ms. Murphy's stories; Crave just fell a little short for me.
3 best friends, all rich, crazy womanizers who all thinks they'll never fall in love, first guy to fall, falls for the best friends sister. Sounds familiar??
Yeah, if you read Maya Banks Breathless series, YOU KNOW THE PLOT! And I'm sorry Miss Murphy, I really liked one week girlfriend and second chance boyfriend, and I wish I would have liked this, but when the story line, is SO close to a series that is already out there, you've lost me. Especially when this is a shorter more boring version.
This book y'all. This. Book. To say I fell in love with Archer & Ivy would be an understatement. And yes, in full disclosure, I am Monica's publicist. I know someone will point that out on here if I don't, so let me put it out there first. That being said, this book is awesome. You need to read it.
Favorite Quote: “Most women hate me once they get to know me.”

Archer Bancroft has always been a love ‘em and leave ‘em man. The ultimate sexy bad boy. No woman has ever been able to hold his heart because it has always belong to one woman-Ivy Emerson. Ivy is his best friends little sister and technically off limits to a player like Archer. When Ivy and her brother take up Archer’s offer of a place to stay after leaving a wedding, He and Ivy can no longer deny the strong attraction between them and act upon it. After one night of incredible passion, Ivy has trouble reconciling the Archer she knows with the Archer who showed her a night she will never forget. Ivy gets scared and decides she and Archer should go their separate ways and chalk this up to mistake.
Archer doesn’t want to forget Ivy or their night yet he respects her wishes and doesn’t contact her for months. When he is unable to get her off his mind, he concocts a plan that will put them into close contact for a month. Archer hopes that Ivy will give him a chance to show her that he has changed and the only woman for him in her life is her.
Monica Murphy’s Crave is the the first book in her Billionaire Bet trilogy that follows a trio of commitment shy best friends who would rather win a million dollar bet then get married. I first stumbled on to Murphy’s writing with her One Week Girlfriend. An emotional new adult that follows a Cinderella theme with a unique and heartbreaking twist. Murphy has a gift for dialogue and creating engaging three dimensional characters. Crave also shines in this aspect. Though the story is predictable, the characters emotional grids light up the storyline. We get a ringside seat to Ivy and Archer’s confusion, pain, and fear as they struggle to find a way to get what they want without hurting each other, themselves, and anyone else.
Archer Bancroft is a player of the worst kind. He is rich, driven, and always gets what he wants-regardless of the consequences. He has always wanted Ivy and like a man, choose insults and teasing as his way to cope with not being able to have her. With a father who has no respect for him and expects failure with everything Archer does, Archer keeps his emotions and heart locked behind a thick barricade. His one night with Ivy blows all that open. He no longer has his shields and he has no idea what to do. I have to admit, I preferred Archer to Ivy. Archer can be an arse but you know right off that bat it’s because he doesn’t want to ruin his and Ivy’s relationship. He’d rather have her as only his friend then lose her because he pushed the issue. Ivy is young and it shows. She is also a bit of drama queen. One of those who everything that is said and done ends in exclamation points. When she tells Archer that they need to forget their one night together, she then gets depressed and angry with him because he doesn’t call her. She threw out a lot of mixed signals and that bothered me.
The sexual play is HOT with nothing left to the imagination. Archer and Ivy have extremely steamy chemistry together that scorches the pages. Add in the fact that they have loved one another for a long time and you have some heavy emotional smexytimes that will definitely leave you wanting to find your own billionaire. *waggles eyebrows* And window.
“I can imagine his big hand sliding down my back, pushing gently so I have no choice but to bend forward. Hearing his dark, sexy voice commanding me to brace my hands on the shockingly cool glass. [...] Those assured fingers would slip beneath my thin panties to find me already soaking wet for him…”
I admired the plan Archer concocts to get them together. In one swoop he gets her in his bed and shows his admiration and respect for her skills as a designer. Though the bet comes back to bite him in the arse, Murphy does a fine job of resolving it in a realistic fashion.
I would have enjoyed a more in-depth look into their relationship when they worked together though. Because of the time frame, Murphy tells us what’s happened but we are not able to see the little things. Regardless, the ending is dramatic and sweet with a verified happy for now for Archer and Ivy and clues to the next bachelor to fall.
Being a huge fan of Karen Erickson, I’m excited about her new series under her Monica Murphy pen name. After reading Crave, I’m even more excited. The so called bachelors consist of Archer (freakin’ love that name), Gage, and Matt. Friends since high school and attending the wedding of another friend they make a million dollar bet on who will fall next and succumb to marriage.
Yes it’s totally cliché but Archer has the hots for his best friend Gage’s little sister Ivy. However, he knows Ivy wants a white picket fence life and he thinks he can’t give her that. Brought up in a household with cheating parents one who drinks and one who ignores, he doesn’t think happy marriages exist and he has no intentions of every going down that road. He’s wanted Ivy a long time but he thinks he’s not good for her and doesn’t want to hurt her. It’s hard not to love the the enemies to lovers theme. Problem is Ivy has had a crush on him forever and while they’ve fought and “hated” each other for years, it’s truly been years of foreplay and one touch and they are all over each other.
I really love these types of stories and it was fun to watch poor Archer fall so desperately head over heels for Ivy. Poor guy really had no clue what he was up against and despite being quite the ladies man has no idea how to talk to women especially one he wants to keep around. At times it was almost painful to watch him stick his foot in his mouth and then try and figure out a way to fix things. Personally, I think Ivy made it a little too easy for him. I would have liked to watch her make him suffer a little bit more but being that she’s been half way in love with him since she was 12, I guess it’s easier said than done.
Because they have history, their first encounter happens quickly and then blows up about as quickly as it started. However Archer finds a way to make Ivy a part of his life for a short time and they resume their relationship and it becomes way more than just sex between friends. As they are working on a project together, they discover each other as adults and become more than just someone to spend time with between the sheets. Don’t get me wrong though, their between the sheets time is explosive and sexy as hell. Ivy finds that she feels free when she’s in bed with Archer and he is absolutely okay with letting her explore her wilder side with him.
I have a feeling while Archer and Ivy are figuring their relationship out, things are going on simultaneously with Gage and Matt but I’ll have to wait until Torn comes out for my hunch to be confirmed. While the storyline isn’t new, I enjoyed the characters and their road to their happily ever after quite a bit. Crave is a good start to what should be a fun and entertaining series!
Archer nikdy neodolá sázce a vždycky vyhraje.
Jde o známou a toliko provařenou zápletku, kterou najdete v několika podobných knihách. Ale víte co? Vůbec mi to nevadí.
Well, it was okay. As I'm typing this, I'm doing my best to think of words that could best describe me while reading this - well first, I was excited then curios, irritated, irritated, a down swooned moment then flat line until the end.
It started good for me. I was honestly excited for this one since Monica Murphy is one of my most awaited and favorite author so grabbing this next new series' of hers was a definite excitement for me. Another thing that gets me excited about it is the plot that revolved around 'my-best friend's-sister' kind of drift. Next to 'friends turn into lovers' and I have a weird a thing for stories that goes along the line of that, so you really cant blame me if I get all excited right? So that feeling went on until I came to the point where it feels like I’ve read the same entire thing or banter on the other contemporary books with the same storyline, but I was still hanging on that maybe something new would still come out – but no nada. It was too predictable for my taste and I can’t help but feel like the story was a complete flat land with no bumps - high or low. Simply a flat deserted place.
Ivy and Archer are okay characters but unfortunately I can't find this connection with them. Their stubbornness and epic miscommunications that goes back and forth was tiring and just too much. But one thing I know for sure is that these two have an undeniable chemistry – chemistry that you would really feel sizzling as a reader.
Crave has this spark that most readers look for and their is definitely fire what with the characters sizzling chemistry but it lacks the fireworks that I was expecting when the end came – also like I was left midair without a parachute flopping down the land face front. Well, at least the ending was happy(which is already given from the start). The chemistry got me but the characters' individual personalities and the whole story didn't quite make it up to me.
Ivy Emerson has been tourmented by Archer Bancroft, one of her brother's best friends, for years...but Archer has been living with his own tourment ever since Ivy has become a woman. He's had a secret obsession with the beautiful person Ivy has become.
When his friends bet him a million dollars that Archer will be the next friend to bite the love/marriage bullet, Archer knows he'll win...he can never have the woman of his dream, Ivy.
Wedding blues leads to a stolen night of passion between Ivy and Archer...causing Archer to realize he doesn't want to live without Ivy. Archer manipulates Ivy into designing his next hotel giving him more up close and personal time with Ivy.
But when the secret bet is revealed will he lose Ivy forever?
What a marvelously steamy story! I enjoyed watching two strong, successful characters finding happiness and love in eachother. The story does switch between Archer and Ivy's view point giving us insight into both characters inner thoughts pulling you deeper into their journey. A perfect sexy read for the happily ever after book lover in us all!
I received this ARC copy of Crave from HarperCollin - Avon Books in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication August 13, 2013.
Crave is the first book in Avon Romance author Monica Murphy’s new Billionaire Bachelors Club series. This was my first Monica Murphy book and the next book in this series is already on my TBR list.
If you are a fan of forbidden romance then this is the book for you. Archer (Side note: I knew I was going to love this guy as soon as I read his name… you can’t have a name like Archer Bancroft and not be sexy) knows what he wants and how to get it and consequences be damned. After their first kiss he knows he needs more, and his new couples only resort project is the perfect opportunity to get the one on one time he needs to make his moves. Ivy agrees to help decorate his resort and these two do more than just pick out the sheets- they burn them!
What will happen when their project ends? Or when Ivy’s brother figures out what is going on behind his back? You HAVE to read this book to find out! I am giving this book a solid 4 Stars, I think this is a great kick off to what is sure to be an awesome series!
