Friday Afternoon

Rate this book
BDSM never gets old.

Before kids and the responsibility of life, Levi and I shared a spontaneous, erotic, and deliciously deviant marriage. Years transformed what we had into something comfortable and worn. It hurts me to think his desire for me has cooled. I miss that look of his. Slightly evil and totally hot, like he wanted to devour me. Haven't seen it in ages.

When I first married Mia, she submitted to every one of my erotic needs. Then came the children. With little complaint, I abandoned my pursuit of kink, content to be married to a beautiful, intelligent woman who's a great mother to our twins. Out of the blue, Mia confesses she misses the intimacy in our marriage, misses the sex. After this enticing revelation, my plan to reconnect with her unfolds.

In our secret, kinky, Friday afternoon meetings I'm going to give her everything she wants and take everything I need. Will this be the answer to fixing our marriage?

It's amazing, really, how this book came to be. I've spent a lot of hours trolling through the threads in the Goodreads groups I belong to and continued to see posts from women like me. Women who've been married more than a decade and got most of their passion through the books they read instead of in their beds (or underneath the dining room table, or in the backyard, etc.) Even more pronounced were the posts from women who belong to the BDSM group and are married to partners that have no interest in that sort of sexual play. Again, I was a part of that demographic. But being the type A personality I am, I set my sights on changing that aspect of my life, and I did. From there, this book took shape.
Friday Afternoon is a lot more non-fiction than fiction, and I wrote it to inspire those who've found their romatic lives in shambles after the intensive job of raising children begins to ease. Communication, honesty, and experimentation took our tepid sex life and heated my marriage to well past the boiling point of ridiculous passion. I know, I couldn't believe it myself, but it did. So I decided to write about the journey. Of course some scenes are pure fiction and others aren't. I'm not telling which is which:)
I hope you like it because it is the most peronal manuscript I'll ever write and it was written with a profound purpose--to show that you can get that special something that once made your stomach twirl with excitement back. It's possible to have passion after fifteen years of marriage. It's possible to re-connect with the man in your bed in significant ways. Try and you may find your life changed.

I really enjoyed this story and found myself able to relate to Levi and Mia on a number of levels. I truly believe a couple needs to work at keeping their love/sex life alive.

While the sex scenes were pretty damn hot, this story also showed the importance of balancing a busy household with taking time for 'yourself' and 'your relationship'.

Even if you're not a fan of BDSM, don't let the cover words BDSM never gets old stop you from reading this story. Like I said the story is about so much more than that.

FINALLY! A romance book that feels REAL! If you’re like me and want to read a romantic story that isn’t filled with fluff, billionaires or twenty-something year olds, then this is it. A couple, married a few years with kids and the sex life has gone out the window. Now this is a story and couple anyone can relate to. Levi and Mia could be my next-door neighbors. This was simply the most delightful story about rekindling with the one you love. A must read for anyone in love.

Friday Afternoon literally reads like biography about how two people got the spark back into their marriage. Their creative play and secret afternoon meetings was probably some of the best hot erotic sex I have read in a while. Do not let the BDSM intimidate you. It is not the over the top Latex and whips kind. More like what to people might try out for fun. The care and affection Levi and Mia have for one another feel so genuine sometimes I forgot I was reading fiction. Their story is brilliantly told in first-person from both their perspectives so you get to experience their happiness, fears and insecurities. I was so sad to see this book come to an end. I could have happily enjoyed spending every Friday afternoon with them.

I’m chomping at the bit to share Friday Afternoon with my friend. I’m sure they will love it as much as I do. Sylvia Ryan, you have hit this one out of the ballpark!

I received this book from JeepDiva in exchange for my honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

I have to admit that I when I was approached for an ARC of this book, I looked up the synopsis and I was instantly intrigued. The tagline on the cover: “BDSM never gets old”...oh yeah, that totally got me.

So, this is a story that is a bit unique in a way. It starts with a couple that’s already married. Levi and Mia have been married for 15 years, they have teen twin girls, and their love life has been stagnant. Mia remembers a time before kids and responsibilities when their sex live was explosive. Not so anymore. Everything kinds of comes to a head when one night, Levi can’t perform, and Mia is sure it’s because Levi is no longer attracted to her.

Determined to save the marriage she’s positive is crumbling, Mia brings up her concerns to Levi. Levi is surprised as he was thought that he was being sensitive to Mia’s needs by not pushing her, but now that he knows she too misses their previously hot sex, he devises a plan to reconnect with her in that way. So, they start meeting on Friday afternoons in order to rekindle their intimacy.

As Mia and Levi rediscover their love life, they open up a world that brings them together closer than ever.

Well, let me just start off by telling you that I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK! There’s really nothing more that I can say than that. It just got to me. It was totally my kink, and I fell into the story right away. The characters were so real, I could easily identify with them and that added to how immersed I got into the story. I loved watching these two finding their way back to each other and was so happy that they were able to do it.

And then there is how extremely HOT this story was. Levi was absolutely delectable. I’m not exactly sure how Mia was not a puddle of goo at his feet long before now. But most importantly, this book was absolutely realistic. And it was still incredibly sexy. There was the right mix of kink and vanilla and seemed to fit more into a world filled with curious kids and work. And it gave me more than a few ideas. ;)
I would describe this book as BDSM-lite. There’s bondage, discipline (spanking, paddling and a little flogging), D/s, but nothing too heavy. I think it would be a great book for people who like BDSM romance and those who are new to the sub-genre alike.
I actually think that people who may be curious could use this book as way to broach the subject with their partners. I think it would be a great place to start a discussion.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON absolutely was a five star read for me. It just spoke to me on every level: as mom, as a wife, and a sexual woman. Sylvia Ryan has taken a departure from her usual style to bring us this story and I’m so glad she did. I hope you give this story a try. I really don’t think that you will be disappointed.

I LOVED this book!!!!
Mia and Levi have been married for 15 years, have twins and between the the natural progression of relationships changing and the rigors of life their sex life has become pretty mundane and boring. When Mia finally voices her concerns with Levi they decide to "meet" and have a Friday afternoon date until their kids get home and see if they can rekindle what they used to have years ago.
Through the course of their sessions Levi begins to introduce a little more kinkier things into their marriage and Mia loves everything he does not realizing that his dominant ways are slowly training her for what he wants.

This book hit home with me as I've been married just as long and can certainly relate to the need to re-kindle the passion that we all want to have again. It was sweet and touching and I loved the emotional relationship that was exhibited between these two characters.

4 1/2 stars
Love this author and this story is awesome. You won't find all the BS that has sprouted in this genre recently, no abusive boyfriend or husband, no psycho girlfriend, who incessantly talks to herself. This is a story about two mature people who are married, love each other deeply and have lost that spark because life has gotten in the way of their connections. It's about them getting it back. No obnoxious games, only hot bedroom games.
The reason for 4 1/2 stars was because of a picture that was shown around, didn't make sense in the story and didn't feel finished within the story. Perhaps because it was a shorter story.
Other than that, it is a fantastic story!

First off have to say that I was told about this book via the author's own lips and through a recommendation from a friend. So other than the fact that I knew that it was going to be a ARC and a BDSM story, I had no clue what else to expect. But since completing it, these are my thoughts:

Synopsis: Meet Mia and Levi, your typical married couple that have been married for a rather long time, have a couple of kiddos(twin girls to be precise), good jobs, and no real complaints right? Wrong! Because as it turns out, Mia is feeling a wee bit insecure about the complacency in her marriage to Levi. Without giving the whole story away, we follow Mia as she opens up to Levi about her concerns and from there, their adventures into bringing back the spice into their marriage in more ways than one.

What I LIKED about the story:

1. Totally loved the concept. I'll be honest and say I don't often read erotica tales with married couples re-kindling the heat in their marriage. But on the rare occasion I do, I like seeing the characters find something they lost and even go a step further and find something new about each other and even themselves along the way. And this story definitely has it.

2. The promptness to which the couple wanted to change their situation. I'm sure most readers get what I'm talking about when I say this. Because there has yet to have been a time when we haven't all come across a great book, outstanding concept, and even amazing characters. Only to have the plot and the subject matter in general just drag on, and on, and on indefinitely without any feeling that something major or epic has been accomplished. This is sooooooo not that story boys and girls. There was definite feelings of guilt, a bit of amazement, some hurt, but after a day or two that is thrown out to actually work on changing things. And I loved it!!

3. Being an BDSM erotica story, I'll admit I was curious how the Dom/sub scenes would play out. Now, I loves me a quality BDSM story for sure. But I'm not one for living the lifestyle 24/7 or going into the far more extreme fetishes or play. But with this story, it was not over the top or extreme at all. The scenes were very reasonable, honest, and straight forward. So much so, that if I were to fantasize about being a sub in Mia's position, I would want similar treatment from a Dom like Levi.

4. Above all else though. What I really enjoyed was that there was enough familiarity and a bond between Mia and Levi that they could even manage to laugh at their dogs watching them have sex at one point in the story and it didn't break the mood. Just brought them closer together and it was really cute and silly and I loved that.

What I DIDN'T LIKE about the story:

1. This story had some really good high points and with all likable works had some down falls. First of which was that although I can admire what Mia and Levi was doing in bringing the heat back to their marriage. But as a more mature couple I felt at times when they were having sex or sometimes having their down time after sex and would talk. It was like their vocab read far younger than their age. A little like they were maybe back in college. I get feeling young again and having that bond re-newed can be great. But the dialogue at times had me arching my eye brow a little at them.

Particularly when Mia was first waxing her pubic hair. And in terms thought of herself as NOT having a "pussy fro". I'll admit I laughed out loud at that one. But still for a older mature woman who has never waxed before in that area. I just couldn't see the leap from being somewhat timid to thinking in such terms.

2. As I mentioned above, I really enjoyed the BDSM scenes in this story. Nothing that I couldn't possibly see myself trying out one day or even fantasizing about. However, I felt like there was a certain level of miscommunication between Mia and Levi still even in regards to their play. I felt like they came so far from the first chapters and yet there were still some miscommunications in regards to feelings and needs.

3. I have to say I do really love a dominant guy in charge in a BDSM story, that knows how to properly dominate his female or even male submissive. I have also grown to enjoy the occasional female dom doing the same to her male or female submissive. So in saying that, I was rather unpleased with the way Levi turned into a snide brat when Mia took her one and only turn at dominating him. I get that he was a rather dominant male character and also a very loving and supportive husband and father in the family. But to not be able to yield and want to learn something from his wife's role as his submissive was rather upsetting to me. Because after all being able to learn something new and take as good as you give really add some depth to a character. Him acting this way turned me off from him a bit.

4. The final 2 things that I wasn't really a fan of was more towards the end of the book. The first of which being, that there is a incident where Mia and Levi's Friday Afternoon adventures are more or less revealed by accident. But it is never really addressed too much other than a simple distraction to get all the guests to just come and eat. And Mia was clearly mortified by what happened. Heck for that matter some very close family was shocked as well namely one of their daughters that found a picture of Mia strung up and spanked on their dad's cell phone. . But there was no real solution at all and it just sort of dropped off with Levi only concerned about Mia. Not to say he shouldn't have been concerned with his wife's feelings. But do to the fact who saw the picture first, I think he AND Mia needed to have a little chit-chat about things.

The second part that I wasn't really a fan of. Was how Levi chooses to win their bet. Which was based on another way to improve their sex life. He totally under-handedly chose a method, that he knew Mia couldn't resist and there by cheating on the bet. Never even once talking about or truly considering her idea for if she won. Again the communication seemed to fall off in the story for me here and I was pulled out of things again.

Overall though, I would have to say this was a pretty good story. I think if we got more of an opportunity to see more of Levi and Mia's progression over a fair stretch of time then I think this story would have been great. But as it was a quick read and shorter chapters it read rather well. I would recommend this to newbies to BDSM erotica stories. Drop that Billionaire Dom junk and get to reading this one today!

Children are the death of a sex life. Many times the baby's first wail is the death keel to a lover's bond. Many marriages dissolve as children replace the spot reserved for a lover. Can this book get any more depressing? Oh wait, this one monologue below from Mia captures how having children will destroy a person's life.

For me, their birth marks the threshold that took a deliriously happy, newly married me to a violent end, to a cessation of everything. My career, my marriage, who I’d always been as a person. It was like falling down while water-skiing, bone-jarring and suffocating. Despite the sheer joy of my new baby girls, their birth created the tiniest gap in what has subsequently grown into a rift between Levi and me. (p. 7)

Reading this passage only affirms my decision not to have children. These parasitic money pits seem to wreak havoc without a thought. Levi and Mia have been married for a long time. With twin daughters, their previously exuberant sex life slowly disappeared until it died a quiet death. The start of this book is excessively demoralizing. Mia hold her own self-pity party as she creates psycho stories in her head regarding her husband cheating on her. Women like Mia disappointment with their juvenile behaviours and inability to communicate effectively with their husband. Why people think their lover is a mind reader never fails to baffle me.

Fortunately, Mia married a sane man with the heart of gold. Instead of leaping to a defensive stance, he helps his wife feel sexy again. Because it's his job to make it right, not her job to make him feel wanted. Did you see how that works? I applaud Ms. Ryan with her subtle writing because it's exasperatingly accurate to real life. The first third of this book is very difficult for me personally to get through because I'm feeling pity for the beleaguered husband. Too many of my male friends experienced this at the hands of a batty wife. Not sure if I could continue with this story, I plow forward.

Ms. Ryan quickly switches over to some hot afternoon delight. What she's written isn't a 101 on how to get your groove back on, but it's pretty damn close. For lovers who've lost their spark, check this book out. It's an easy guide on how to jump start a mostly dead sex life. Ms. Ryan also injects her funny sense of humour. One particular discussion between Mia and her best friend about shaving can cause a reader to do a spit take. Read that section with a drink at your own risk.

“I’m just sayin’ men prefer baby smooth, not pussy-fro.” (p. 28)

Pussy-fro? This is a phrase I need to remember.

Ms. Ryan does a great job of showing how two lovers can reconnect. It's not just the sex. It's the quality time spent together which makes the difference. Building the bonds back through trust and intimacy makes a difference. It even impacts their attitude and others can sense it. Good sex is a great confidence booster. Kinky sex just cranks it up a notch. Levi's increasingly kinky play is hawt and so enjoyable to read. His dom qualities reappear and this erotic contemporary romances ends on a high. It leaves the reader wanting more. What will happen now that a bet has been won? Curious readers want to know! This short romance tale is recommended for lovers who need a little catalyst to spark their love life back to existence.

When I read the synopsis for this book I was immediately intrigued. A longtime married couple, looking to rekindle their sex life? This is a theme that speaks to me on a very personal level - yes, I've been there. In reading Sylvia's comments on the book and how it came about I see that this is a very personal book for her as well, based on her own experience.

While the tag line on the cover reads "BDSM never gets old" I'd have to say that I thought this novella was not so much about the BDSM, and much more about the reconnection between a husband and wife. There is some description of BDSM scenes, but don't be alarmed if you're not into this type of thing...it's pretty mild. Oh, and did I mention that the scenes are oh-so-hot? Sylvia does sex scenes very well and this book is no exception. The addition of personal perspective makes it that much more emotional and heartfelt. And real...this felt so real. As we get the perspective of each partner through the switching POV I could feel their connection growing. It really was beautiful.

I think this is a book that will appeal to any reader who's been in a relationship for awhile...or anyone who's been in a relationship at all. A must-read that I'll be recommending to friends for sure.

It's not often that I can give a novella 5 stars, but making an exception in this case. 5 big heartfelt stars for Friday Afternoon!

This was a very good book, enough so that I was disappointed when it seemed to end so suddenly. I wanted to experience "that weekend" that the book built up to, with Levi and Mia.

I enjoyed reading about this long married couple recapturing the love they felt for each other in their marriage. I felt a connection within the first few pages with Mia, as I'm sure most women who read this book will feel.

This was an easy and quick read, and i enjoyed it very much, a solid 4 star read... i still want that final weekend though! :)

Ok, that said: I loved this book! It's honest, with an everyday couple, that love each other, but lost their passion... and fight to encounter it again.

Friday Afternoon is about a couple married for 15 years rekindling their sex life and in doing so, their marriage as well. There were so many things I liked about reading this book. It was unique to the other erotic romance books in that most of them seem to feature new couples just meeting and starting out together, most of the time in their 20s or very early 30s. This couple was established and older, though still young in my opinion. It was really refreshing to read about a longstanding and already developed, committed couple trying to keep their relationship strong. Aside from the kinky-ness (but sometimes including it, I'm sure), I think this story is so real for many couples who have been together for many years and could resonate with, and be helpful to, them. It really does include some great advice and ideas for maintaining a lasting relationship.

What I didn't like: There was a mention of one of members of the couple not cheating but having thought about it. I don't like that. Maybe the inclusion of this makes it more realistic, but I would have been happier if maybe it was just the missing of the newness of the relationship but not the actual though of the consideration of actual cheating that was mentioned. That really bothered me and put me off the book for a couple days. I also didn't like the subtle reminders that Levi had been kinky with others before. I understand that most people have a past with relationships and sex with people before settling down or finding "the one", but I just didn't like the way or time it was brought up in the book. I think Mia forgave Levi for the picture fiasco too quickly. I'm not saying she should hated him for it, but she seemed to have gotten over it rather too quickly. These things made it hard for me to really click with the book. I liked it, but felt kind of detached through some of it. I didn't necessarily dislike Mia wanting to try a menage, but I don't feel like it fit. This, and some of the other kink aspects felt misplaced. I like that kink was included, as it is a very real and valid part of many people, but I felt like it was kind of "off", or out of place in how it was done at times.

What I really liked: The couple's commitment to the restoration of their marriage was beautiful and inspiring. I love that they had a weekly date for each other during which they were each others' main priority. This spilled over into other days and really reinforced their bond. It was all just so realistic in many regards, including the daily strains of life, balancing work and other things, and shifting responsibilities after parenthood and how all of this affects a relationship over time. It was written and edited very well. I loved the inclusion of kink and both parties trying to give each other what they needed. That is very important to keeping a relationship alive and strong, especially when it isn't brand-new anymore.

Overall - A solid 4 stars. Well written and put together. Loved the focus of the marriage rekindling. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good erotic romance.

This book is for adults and I don’t mean just because of subject matter. The characters are mature and don’t play negative head games. They care deeply for each other and communicate, wow what a novel concept these days.

It starts out with Mia worried about how her husband Levi isn’t into her anymore, so wonder of wonders she comes out and asks him. I loved that!!! So many romance books today have characters who if only they would have asked on simple question the issues would or could have been resolved.

There is a reality to this story about how that special connection with a partner can change after being together for a longer time. The author does a wonderful job of getting that across to the reader.

“the inevitable cascade of thousands of days, filled to the brim with the mundane matters of life… and ” The sense of deep intimacy that once sustained us has been squandered, unappreciated until now there’s little, if any, left.”

How true any of us can get lost in the everyday and many do and with that they lose that closeness of sharing with that special person they once had.

What was wonderful about this story is how the author takes us not just into Mia’s head but also Levi’s. They fit so perfectly and worked so hard on there relationship when they both figured out that something was missing. No one blamed the other person, they just wanted to get back what they lost.

There is lots of humor in this story, a great addition and something that happens in real life with a partner of longer standing. They laugh in bed and have fun. Not everything is so serious. The BDSM starts out mild and builds at a slow pace so it makes it seem more realistic. I loved how the author adds the positives of being with a long term partner.

I so wanted to give this story a 5 star rating, the reason I couldn’t was because Levi took a picture of Mia on his phone in her submissive role and their daughters saw it and then proceeded to show his sister-in-law. I know it’s a shorter story, but it wasn’t addressed at all except with Levi and Mia outside swimming. That just wasn’t realistic to me. Man oh man there would have been some backlash if something like that happened. But other, than that one tiny thing this is an awesome story!!!!

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an in depth look into a caring, loving couple struggling to get the fire back into their lives. With no nasty head games, but with lots of fun hot bedroom games.

And then they got married, had children, and lived happily ever after... well, not so much. Children have this ability to zap the passion out of a marriage, and turn a spark-inducing sex life into a sweet but now foreign memory. The once tight body goes soft, things that pointed up now point down, and the constant insecurities feed off an air of non-arousal. In short, the wind of eroticism has died.

Well, not for Mia, who will ask her husband, Levi, all the difficult questions circling in her mind. And definitely not for Levi, who has been waiting patiently for Mia to open up to him once more, so he can complete her BDSM training.

This was such a real, heartfelt short story. The number of couples going through this same situation (with or without the D/s element) is astonishing, as if somehow kids signify the end of passion, and now the couple's sole purpose is to tend to their offspring. What about their needs? What about their wants, and their dreams? This book just tells us that it is never too late to go after what was once ours, and revive the desires that have been hiding for way too long. Communication, respect, and love. Safe, sane and consensual.

I really enjoyed reading about Levi & Mia! A HOT MARRIED COUPLE! What felt sooo real because I'd found myself in their shoes before and lived through it! I cried and laughed with Mia throughout the book - feeling her disappointments and pains and enjoying her Friday Afternoons with her husband!!! Lesson learned: MAKE EXTRA EFFORTS FOR THE IMPORTANT THINGS!!! Sylvia I look forward to reading more of your work!!! This was really a wonderful read!!!

Friday Afternoon by Sylvia Ryan

ARC supplied by publisher.

I love some spice in my romance and Friday afternoon sounded like a fun read. I was right – it was good. Mia and Levi had an exciting sex life and then the family came. Twins, they take up lots of time and energy and suddenly Mia realises time has past, the twins are teens now and she feels frumpy and unattractive, and she acknowledges that their sex life has dwindled to very bland and mundane, almost become a chore to be done rather than something to be treasured and excited by.
She's afraid maybe Levi is having an affair and talks to him and they decide to set aside Friday afternoons as time for them alone without the kids so they can indulge and not have quick quiet sex.
Initially Levi takes charge, it comes naturally to his dominant personality and he buys various sex toys for them to play with. Gradually it dawn on Mia that they are doing a gentle type of BSDM and she does her own research ( and I just love the time she turns the tables!! )
Its a problem most parents face at some point so the book is very realistic in that part and I love the way they decide to progress. Mia and her comfy no panty line but not attractive knickers – we've all been there done that haven't we, and it brought home to her how much she'd let slip. Its not just her though, Levi had also played his part but his solutions – wow – they were fun :) Made for some sensual reading, the BDSM wasn't a huge part and was very light IMO so don't think its going to be all whipping and chains etc. there's some gentle spanking and flogging and some anal play so if that's not for you then take note of the warning. I think it's just something they used to spice up their sex life and add some fun to it ( I'm talking about them as if they were real here I’ve just realised...but they feel very real and as parent myself I can recognise their dilemma and how difficult it can be to fit everything in)

Its a short fun read, at 109 pages. I don't have pricing information yet. If you like a quick spicy romance this is a perfect way to spend a couple of hours.

Stars: I prefer longer books but for a fun quick read this was good and I’m giving it four stars.

Friday Afternoon is a unique look into a BDSM relationship and what happens after marriage and children. While I kind of resented the idea that children ruin a sex life I also have to agree with it just a little. Maybe “ruin” is a harsh word but there is definitely less sex in the years that follow the birth of a child. Add in another child 2 or 3 years after the first an that can complicate things even further. By the time you notice something is wrong it’s hard to fix it. You’ve grown accustomed to the routines. The monotony.

Mia and Levi enjoyed a very amorous BDSM relationship up until Mia got pregnant with their twin daughters. Now, years later, they are left with an unfulfilling sex life with no BDSM elements. After a particularly bad session of sex Mia is left to wonder if Levi could possibly be cheating on her because he appears to not be attracted to her anymore. When she confronts him, he vehemently denies having an affair and in the course of their discussion they discover they’re both yearning for what they had when they first met. A D/s relationship.

Levi and Mia, over the course of their secret Friday meetings, reconnect on a level they weren’t even aware they had been missing. During their afternoons they aren’t parents. They are man and woman. Husband and wife. They learn ways in which they have changed and ways in which they have stayed the same. It was pretty profound to follow them on their journey back to each other and the role their sexual natures played in that route.

Ryan does a really good job at making her characters engaging and real. I think a lot of couples probably deal with things like this over the years. While it wasn’t always realistic (I mean who is able to take every single Friday afternoon off) it was wrote well and I never found myself bored or pulled from the story by being annoyed at something. I look forward to more from Sylvia Ryan in the future. She’s definitely an author to watch.

I give Friday Afternoon by Sylvia Ryan 3.50 stars!

Sometimes I decide to read a book (in exchange for an unbiased review) basically because the content resonates with me. This was such a book. Okay, so The Man & I aren't getting our freak on every Friday afternoon (we tried that a couple times, and Little Dude was the result - 'nuff said) but really - who hasn't worried about their marriage &/or sex life becoming stagnant? At just over 100 pages, this is an easy read - but more importantly, it's a GOOD read! On the basic level, it is encouraging, and could even be a road map, to couples everywhere that try to figure out that age old dilemma - how do you connect sexually in a household with kids - especially kids that are in puberty & would KNOW what was going on?

In this story, you hear from both the wife and husband as they examine where they feel their love life took a detour, and how they go about putting themselves back on track. All I have to say is that this is DEFINITELY a story that should be shared with your partner - especially if you've been together for a while! Sylvia Ryan dissects a marriage in a caring and thoughtful way, while throwing in REALLY H-O-T sex scenes between the husband & wife (remember those?). This is NOT a book for the carpool lane, because you will find yourself squirming and you won't want to put it down when your kids get into the car - and we all know that we must let our kids believe they were the result of an immaculate conception & that all parents are asexual...

Here's your warning - there is some spanking, flogging, anal toys & penetration, sex toys and consensual submission - and what makes this even more special is that all of these things are done with love and compassion for each other. I think the only question is going to be if Sylvia Ryan plans to tell us about the weekend that they are to spend together!

Sylvia Ryan is a first time author for me and I was immediately drawn in. Once I started I couldn't put the story down. I loved to concept and it felt fresh to me. It wasn't your everyday BDSM story. This was about two people who had life get in the way and to put their sex lives on hold. Not only is this a BDSM romance but it's also an emotional one as well.

Friday Afternoon switches between the main characters point of view. You have Mia who feels as if she is the problem. She beats herself up thinking it's her weight gain or the stress of raising kids. She is determined to find out what it is that has caused them to slow down so much.

Then you have Levi, a Dominant that has had to put himself sexually on the back burner so he could be the bread winner. He works hard to provide for his family but notices a shift in Mia. He realizes that they are no longer the kinky couple they were before life got into the way.

This leads to their Friday Afternoons. In each session together they grow to love each other and want to be with one another again. These meetings rekindle the spark into their marriage. This story shows you how it can be for a couple when life take full control of you and you have to realize what's important.

I loved this story, the shifts from point of view were flawless. I found myself at times tearing up at the raw emotion this story gives. Friday Afternoon is a must read for anyone. It shows you how life can take over and sometimes you just have to put aside a day to rekindle that spark.

4.5 stars from me!

WOW!!! Now I haven’t had kids, but I have heard stories about what kids can do to your sex life. This book seemed to pretty much hit what I have heard right on the nail. With that being said, I go back to WOW!!!

The erotica part of this story was just off the charts amazing. Are you looking for a hot steamy read? This is one for you completely! It was great to follow along with the steps that Levi was putting Mia though. I also enjoyed how you could tell the chemistry between the two of them, it was extremely realistic.

There were many parts of the story that did stand out to me, and not just the erotica portion of the story.

The emotions that Mia was going through throughout the course of the story are also very realistic. I think that added to the story being able to actually connect with the characters on many levels. Mia and Levi’s characters were really well written in my opinion. There was enough information about their past and their different personalities that we could understand where each character was coming from.

Overall, I think this book was just a great book. And I would completely recommend it to my followers.

I really liked this story, because it was between a "normal" married couple. It seems most couples start out in the hot honeymoon stage, then when kids come along it seems the sex life is the first to be put on the back burner. I think on one level or another, we are all guilty of it. This couple may have started out vanilla early in, but I don't think they stayed there until after having kids. The description they both give of their sex life in remembering how it was, it sounded pretty kinky to me. I think wanting to find each other again, their strong love for one another, & put a few more years of maturity in the marriage....they found that long lost spice & made it even spicier. I think the history they have between them made that easier to do. When I was finished reading, I was left with....They still have a way to go in finding their place, but I'm sure they will have fun in the process. This couple's love runs deep & the need to satisfy each other is evident. Which makes the fumbling about & the confusion at times of what the other wants or expects, even more believable.

A wonderfully warm and romantic short novel that is written in the first person from the stand point of both Mia and Levi. Both are deeply in love with each other but both have come to a stand-still in their marriage. Those who have made a similar time and energy investment in marriage and kids will resonate with this book and will understand the need that both spouses felt to rejuvenate their relationship. For these two it was natural to return to their BDSM dynamic, one that had brought verve and vitality into their bedroom. Now they are re-discovering that they can still have that kind of energy between them in spite of all their other burdens and responsibilities. This book takes the advice of marriage counselors and psychologists (set a weekly date with you spouse) and builds a deeply romantic story on it. I enjoyed it immensely and think it will be a very satisfying and entertaining read for any lover of romance fiction.

This was a fun, entertaining and uplifting story. For me, personally, and I guess anyone else that has to manage a working life plus kids and a partner it was great because it was realistic, and as a plus had a perfect balance of kink and ordinary vanilla.
I could relate totally to what Mia is going through and how a relationship with a partner changes once kids arrived and the difficulties of managing to keep not just your sanity, but a spark in the sexual aspects of it. So this was a breath of fresh air, and most importantly gave me hope and made me think that a little bit of work is needed on my part too, to regain the excitement and the butterflies in your belly when you hear him come home.....

I LOVED this!!

It was so incredibly REAL!
I felt SO connected to this story, Being married for 10 years and having 5,6 and 7 year olds certainly can put a damper on your sex life.
I loved the way these two interacted. How they shared their concerns their dreams, their ultimate fantasies.

I highly enjoy the comedy throughout as well as the intimacy!

Congratulations on a very well balanced novel that had the perfect ratio of everything! I will be reading this one again!

I really enjoyed this book...not too often do you get a romance novel about a normal married couple! This book follows Levi and Mia as they try to rekindle the sex life they had before kids and find that connection that pulled them together in the beginning. I can very much relate to this story line and the characters. This book was HOT... I think I may have my husband read it I definitely would recommend it!o

4.5 stars. I love reading about married couples keeping their passion alive, or in this case rekindling it. Mia and Levi have been married for years and have fallen into a rut. In an effort to rekindle the spark they start spending Friday afternoons together reexploring the sexual side of their relationship. And boy oh boy does it get hot in here. I love their honesty and trust in one another. This is a great book and I would have given it 5 stars if not for the VERY abrupt ending.

I really enjoyed this book. I read this as a buddy read for one of my groups and my buddy mentioned that it felt like reading someone's diary. I totally agree. It felt real. My only complaint was that I wish the book was longer. The really loved that the author wrote the point of view of both Mia and Levi.

So in general this a really steamy, yet sweet love that follows a long married couple as they find that spark in their love life again.

I thought this was a very realistic scenario of a couple who has been married for a while and missing that spark. Thankfully for them, both parties are still committed to each other, they just have fallen into routines. And, thankfully, they're both willing to work on that. Very enjoyable to watch them rekindle that flame.
