(I wish I knew how to express this feeling in English. I tried to convey it as best as I could)
There is something about the tone of the book that soothes my mind and warms my heart. (All of this author’s books usually infuse me with this peculiar but pleasant sensation). Unlike some other contemporary books, this one isn’t simply written for the sake of embellishment. Nor is it intended to create a romance that transcends time or that makes people shriek and wiggle until their toes explode. This story is about a special community and their struggle to protect their legacy, values and identity. It is my personal discovery that most of the details or descriptions offer worldly wisdom and depth. I love Evie, but I love Ed, Joseph, Abel, and Lars even more. Each man carries a sense of dignity and compels respect. Given the chance, I think I’d like to really understand them from a man’s perspective. Sadly, I’m just a girl in this case, so maybe I don’t fully grasp the profound meanings behind their words and actions.
I hope whoever reads this book will love it like I do.
Could've been better. I just had a hard time keeping up an interest in what was going on. But I kept trudging through because the story has such potential. a tweak, some editing...a little rewriting perhaps. Evie and her grandfather are wonderful characters....the best of the lot. I'd have like to see a love interest in the works for Evie. Maybe next time? I also liked where the author took the storyline with the hunter. Very interesting.
This was a great 2nd chapter of the series, still some grammatical errors but far fewer than last time. I like that we are learning more of the history and the authors take on wolf culture is definitely different than what is usually out there. There isn't an alpha but there is a leader, and the pack structure is not really a structure at all - interesting none the less. I like the world created so far, but the visuals are almost non existent, the book is based more in dialogue between the characters or Evie's inner dialogue - this isn't necessarily a bad thing but I do enjoy a little more visual so that I can see the world in my mind. The reason i gave it a 4, is because sometimes the story is told from another characters view, briefly and u aren't sure who until after and then of course you have to reread it. Secondly, the chapters about Lars and the gang were just boring, could have been shorter, I understand their purpose but I wasn't a fan. Otherwise the book and series are great and I will continue reading
I am a huge wolf lover, and finding decent stories is difficult. Having said that, I highly recommend this series! In depth with characters that linger long after the pages are closed. Will be seeking out more of this author!!
What an excellent improvement! The second installment of the Great North Hills Pack series is fantastic. I certainly enjoyed the first novel, but I really loved the second novel. It gained a sense of maturity. The main female was no longer the main focus, but the pack as a whole this time around. Makes sense being about wolves that no one individual would shine even if one has special markings.
The titling of this sequel novel is so beautiful in its simplicity. The way Shawn Underhill handles the dilemma of man versus nature is beautiful. There is the call of the pack and family through love and unity. Then, there is the call of nature and solidarity. The lone wolf that stalks alone from pessimism and hurt can still feel the pull of family deep down inside. Isolation and absence do make the heart grow fonder after all. Abel and Erica struggle against an internal demon/dream/wish that is so well depicted in Underhill's writing. As the reader, you just absolutely get sucked into the emotions.
Lars is a truly inspiring addition and I look forward to seeing where that story arc leads. The novel ended with my favorite type of cliffhanger. The one that doesn't really solve anything and makes me really, really want to know when the third book is coming out, yet if for some unfortunate writer's block, I will not feel a complete let down because the story did finish.
I incredibly, highly recommend this book to everyone. It suits all ages and just really needs to be read.
This is the second book in The Great North Woods Pack by Author Shawn Underhill.
Amazing. After reading the first book in the series Silver-White and unable to put it down upon finishing I immediately had to purchase this story. Shawn managed to write an even better story than the first. With the addition of the character Abel made the story (my favorite). Would love to read His story. Highly Recommend reading. Looking forward to reading book 3 when released.
“There is no satisfaction to be found. The roots go on into time so that there is no finding, no having; only the joy of the chase. The waters are sweet to drink, but it is a stream with no source, its currents ever flowing until the heart that chases it ceases to beat.” - Abel, The Call.
There was a lot of stuff going on in this book, but not all of it explained. We have a hunter looking for evidence of 'something' hired by an unknown 'someone'. He ends up going off to 'someplace' to do 'something else'???? We also have an almost feral Erica who decides to go off with her Uncle to do feral wolfie stuff. She actually wants to eat the mysterious hunter, but I think that will be saved for another time. Overall, it was a good story.
This was heartstoppingly great!!! Wow amazing, I was so scared for Lar and his men, even tho I knew Joe is a good man I thought that was it for him! He right to be frightened but what did he expect coming out there.I like Abel thought I wouldn't but I do and that little witch Erica I thought they would have to put her down, of course i still think they need to lol. Hey that's me but I enjoyed this one had me into it big time! Such clarity and detail. Yay
I enjoyed the second book more than the first. Maybe because I'm finally used to his writing style (although when he gets super wordy, I skim), but mainly it's because I love the secondary characters. Evie still gets on my nerves, but not quite as bad as the first book.
Once again I was totally taken with this 2nd book more than the first I love how the story plays out. Now it is time for me to get the third book and read it now Thank you Shawn for your creative mind. I hope you continue in your writing.
I loved this book, it just get better with ever turn of the page...I can't seen to get enough of Ms.Underhill wolves, her story plot is wonderful and what I love most about it, is that young adult could read this books and will take them to a wonderful journey with full of adventure..
Family is the key that everyone should hold dear to their hearts. The Snow family aka Great North Pack knows so well about how family can be taken away. Love and a deeper bond no human would understand. Great read and well written
It is such a wonderful book and very well written. As you read you really feel that you are there, part of the pack, one of the characters, one with the family. Thank you Shawn
I have to say that this was a fantastic book. I loved the blend of characters and the flow of the story. I hope that Shawn Underhill continues this fantastic series.
I was disappointed that more anything was in this book. I warn you, this is a thinker, philosophical story of life. Who controls the inner beast? Not a romance.
