The inmates are revolting, and it's not going to be pretty in this tension-filled escapade that might surprise you. Edge-of-your-seat action with a bit of humour thrown in.
Preston Randall was born in Philadelphia but moved to Canada at an early age and currently resides in Victoria, British Columbia. After graduating with a B.Sc. in Biology he pursued an administrative career spanning thirty years, seven of which were spent in the Caribbean. Although always interested in creative writing, it wasn't until after returning to Canada in 2007 that he published his first short story.
A former distance runner, Preston has a personal best of 2:35 in the marathon and completed the Boston Marathon in a respectable 2:47. He now only competes vicariously through the characters in his latest story.
Preston has won awards in a number of writing competitions and is well-known for his unique brand of off-beat humour, plot twists and memorable characters. In spite of the many laugh-out-loud situations and descriptions, however, there is often a serious undertone.
Loved it! Preston Randall really knows how to weave an interesting tale. I was immediately drawn in by the blurb, and once I started reading, I couldn't stop for even a second, I had to find out how it was going to end. Escaped prisoners? Who wouldn't want to see how THAT resolves itself. I was wondering how they planned to use "the muscle" to get across the river... and I honestly didn't see this coming! Clever and entertaining all the way. Great book!
I thought I'd try a few of these 15 minute reads from Kindle to see how they compare quality wise to other short stories I've read.
This was a weird little foray into short storyville! Well written with a fast paced plotline and an astonishing reveal at the end that you won't guess. Very entertaining.
Twisted short story of an inmate escape that is not quite what it seems. The writing is good and the story is a clever idea and a fun idea. I think this short read is a great way to have a sneak peek at the author's writing style and fun imagination.
Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
A poor homeless man sees some unfortunate things while out and about. Inmates have escaped, and they almost catch him eyeing them up. Fortunately for him, he manages to hide just in time. However, he has to tell someone what he saw, in hopes they can be captured before they do any damage. Will someone believe his story, or will they just brush him off as some crazy street rat?
This was such a cute read, and it certainly has a surprise in store for the reader. Very quick and easy, but quite humorous in such a short amount of time. If you need a quick laugh, definitely pick this one up.
I absolutely loved this story! Preston Randall is a brilliant storyteller and he had me guessing all the way to the end. What I look for in short stories is an ending that you can't see coming from a mile away. Randall definitely did that here. This has got to be one of my favorite short stories of all time. Not only is it unpredictable, but it's hilarious as well. It's a must-read!
