The Quiet

Rate this book

Imagine there is a place where you can't be touched by the noise and tensions of the modern world. Where, no matter what's going on around you, you can find time and space and room to breathe.

This place exists. It's called "The" "Quiet."

Some people spend a lifetime of meditation practice and spiritual studies trying to find it. You can be on your way there in as little as 13 minutes.

"The Quiet" practices are centred around four simple steps (three physical, one mental) that transform your mental state and the way you feel. They're more streamlined than traditional meditation methods, but every bit as deep. In fact, the major difference is their simplicity, and the way they dovetail into a busy, dynamic life.

There's never been a more pressing need for the peace of mind, clarity of thought, emotional stability and physical wellbeing that flow from these practices.

There's never been a more pressing need for "The Quiet."

The best meditation book I've come across. I read it years ago, and I'm revisiting it again, and it has stood the test of time. It is free of metaphysics, or much of a philosophy past the 'the modern world is trying to kill us, you should take a break and not let it' reasoning. But it does point you towards finding your own reasons for meditating aside from that. The book goes over three different kinds of meditation, moving your practice into your wider life, all in no-nonsense language and with straightforward advice to overcoming difficulties.

*Audiobook. The narrator had a nice soothing voice. The techiques were explained very well. I especially liked the technique of anchoring a posture with a slight smile to put you immediately in a calm demeanour. Lots of talk of how meditation is beneficial to us and how to incorporate it into our everyday lives. One small critique is that the message couldve been delivered in a shorter book.

This book had to be added to the 'saved for later' shelf, because you must practice the first techniques before moving on to the second part of the book - I'll be back to this one later!

Its a book that I will keep reading over and over and need to keep showing up to commit to using the calming techniques. Just what the doctor ordered.
