Michael is passionate about self-health care, Oriental philosophy applied to modern living, self-directed education and embracing the human potential.

He holds a Bachelor of Health Science from Charles Sturt University, an Advanced Diploma in Acupuncture from the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences and a level 2, yoga teacher certificate from the Byron yoga centre. He has been teaching yoga since 2008 and was a lecturer of Oriental medicine and Chinese medical massage (Tui-Na) at the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences from 2014-2015.

In his early twenties, he suffered from regular migraine headaches, depression and chronic lower back pain, which he overcame primarily through the practices of yoga, relaxation and meditation.

Michael was always attracted to eastern philosophy and it was this interest that drew him to the teachings and practices of yoga, martial arts and Oriental medicine at a young age. After traveling to China to teach English for a year, he returned to Australia in 2004 to begin studying Chinese medicine, remedial massage and practicing Oki-Do yoga (Japanese yoga form developed by Dr. Masahiro Oki) under the guidance of Peter Masters.

Inspired by the teachings of many he has learned that a lighthearted and nurturing approach to life serves best.

Michael’s other interests include music, dance, circus arts, reading, traveling, spending time in nature & drinking cups of tea.

I was doing a kindle clean out… sometimes I forget where I even get things from… he’s Australian; was that it?
This is a short book with some practical advice.
You will recognize the importance of exercise in your life, and its influence on your ability to work more effectively. Most people say, “I do not have enough time to exercise or meditate.” But those who are walking the path quickly realize that somehow, things like exercise and meditation actually help to create more time and energy, and increase the overall productivity of their work. (p. 24).

He also warns that alcohol and drugs mess with your head.
Stress is largely self-inflicted, so the ability to manage stress more effectively comes from managing oneself. (p. 28).

Do you know, I had never thought about it like that before… [hears Gorillaz whisper - it’s all in your head. Thanks, brain weasels.]
And,
If you are caught up in the outcome of the project, then what will happen to you when the project is completed and the job is over? Will you fall into a heap at the end of it and become depressed? (p. 38).

Right… this is where goals like ‘run a marathon’ fall over.
Better to have a long term career, or as he calls it, a path.

This was free on Kindle so it was certainly worth the price, and it's very short so I can't say it was a waste of time. Most of the advice is pretty good, though some of it is a little weird (like the page where he says going to college without a clear predefined purpose will just "fill you with clutter" and that "university teaches people to think the way they want you to think". I guess this probably depends on your particular school, major, and professors).

My main issue with the book is that it's written as if it should apply to everyone — the whole premise being that these are "sure signs" — but it reads more like he's just sharing his own personal experience and assuming it applies to everyone. The college thing is just one example, but there are a lot of others throughout. So to me, it's more like a nice little list of things to think about when considering your path, rather than "sure signs" of anything.

Concise

I enjoyed this book for its clarity and concise content. I've had it for quite some time but I haven't read it until now.
Over the last few months there have been many changes in my life most of which I had no control over but some of which I very consciously orchestrated. A decluttering of sorts.
Throughout all of these I kept asking myself what was the purpose, to what end and why am I feeling the need to make these changes.
This book has oven me a fresh perspective and now I know that it was all in preparation for me to be aligned with my path.
So thank you to the author for writing it and thank you Universe for sending it to me and allowing me to read it exactly when I needed to.

15 Sure Signs That You Are on the Right Path by Michael Hetherington is an informative how-to book. I gave it three stars.

I received a complimentary copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.

This book is more or less a counterbalance to the last one. It's also a self-help book, but one which starts from the premise that if each of us concentrated on finding the right balance in our own life (and really embraced our own route/path) the world would be a better place.

The book basically emphasizes meditation and self knowledge as a route to pro-social behavior. Which is lovely, and a reminder of some nuggets of basic truth in it. Nothing too profound and life changing, but a good reminder of basics, with an emphasis on meditative practices.

Life Balance Advice

The path the author explores is one of a balanced life. Using a fait bit of Eastern philosophy as well as general understandings of your own values and approaches, the author asks questions and provides guidance on pathfinding. I would say the book is more to identify if you are on the wrong path, but the approach is positive and reinforcing - thus the other side of that coin presented in the title. A decent read.

This was an okay self-help book but not what I need. However, I do believe that there are probably many people who could use some the advice he provides, The book is well laid out, easy to read and concise. It did repeat some thoughts and ideas at times but as the book is so short that was not problematic.

Ideas Rehashed

It was a cryptic book about finding your path in life with stated opinions that were rehashed over several times. Not a bad book, I liked some of what it shared. Just not a great book.

A Quick read

The book is relatively short so it was easy to read in one sitting. There were a few good points that I hadn't thought of before. I wouldn't have continued reading it it had been a longer book, but it was just the right length.

Simple easy read on finding/knowing yourself and where you want to be/go in life. Not much new for me as I read, but worth the time to skim or read to renew thoughts and ideas.

Interesting

Good to read. The message seems a bit rushed, but it does deliver the core message the author was trying to convey.

What do you prioritize on your path

Enjoyed this quick read, was reinvigorating to remind oneself to prioritize health and joy on one's path not just achievement and success.

Basic on life

I chose a 3 star because it's a lot like anything else you read on these guidelines to life.
It was ok.
I'd suggest this to high school students who feel lost.

Insightful

A brief but pleasant read with useful and reassuring messages. The brevity is actuslly quite beneficial as even a slow reader can get the message quickly!

I think it is a pretty good guide to understand when sometimes we are walking out of the path, and it gives an idea how to do best for ourselves by ourselves every day.
