In SUSY Asylum, there is no release. There is no escape. No hope.

Oliver and Desiree had their fun gallivanting through Provex City, but found out the hard way just how dangerous it could be for them, especially while impersonating the very people they were trying to avoid.

Their new friend, Darius Fitz, had introduced them to the writings of a mysterious blogger, Commodore Chaos, who claimed Lorne loyalists were snatching inter-plane travelers and delivering them to the Lorne run SUSY Asylum for the Criminally Insane.

When there is another sudden disappearance, Oliver begins to take the conspiracy blogger’s warnings more seriously and sets out to find the mythical asylum himself. Seek and ye shall find. But Oliver is not ready for the horrors that await him there.

Oliver’s belief in himself is waning. Desiree will not always be by his side. Mr. Gordon will not always come to his aid. Oliver finds himself alone, forced to confront his biggest fears, fight his inner demons, and face the very cold reality that no one is coming to save him.

Welcome to SUSY Asylum.

Susy Asylum is a great follow up to Provex City. We get to find out more of the characters we have come to love from Provex City. The things they went through and why they went through them and what haunts them. My heart really went out to Oliver and Desiree because they have gone through so much and Oliver will have to face some demons he does not know even exist. For Desiree she has to deal with the loss of someone she loved and someone she was close to.

Oliver and Desiree stumble upon a blog that has the craziest ramblings ever because the blogger is going on about the Lorne family locking people up for in a mystical asylum who travel between planes. At first it just seems likes it ramblings of a crazy person but soon Oliver and Desiree realize there is something going on but they just don't know what it is.They will discover that there is more to this than meets the eye and pretty soon they will discover that everything is not what it seems.

Oliver and Desiree both love Provex City and want to be there because for Oliver it is his only connection to his father and for Desiree it is about memories that she holds dear to her. But what happens when the truth comes out and Oliver starts to believe there is something off about Prove City. Oliver will learn the hard way that things can go out of control in a nano second and he will soon find himself locked in a battle he just may not win. Oliver still has not figure out he is the key to in the rebellion and some will do anything to get him.

SUSY Asylum is a book that reminds me of Inception crossed with Poltergeist 3. Michael breathes life into multiple planes of existence in this book. We get more background on characters we met in "Provex City" and are given little snippets along the way of the horrible events that brought T.J. and Desiree's love to ruin (I really felt bad for both of them and wished that T.J. had sought help for his problems because he obviously did not mean to "date rape" his girlfriend as he loved her very much).

Oliver is a great character through which to experience Mr. Pierce's world. When I say I compare the book to the stories shown in Inception and Poltergeist 3, it's merely because moving between planes of existence seems almost dreamlike in its quality. And the book comes to a resounding conclusion when Oliver finds himself trapped in the world on the other side of the mirror and a captive of his own reflection. The sinister reflection (who goes by Nero) wants to use Oliver's body as a means to live forever.

Susy Asylum is a worthy successor to Provex City, and those who like Inception will most likely find this particularly offering irresistible.

(This review can be found on my blog The (Mis)Adventures of a Twenty-Something Year Old Girl).

After finishing Provex City, I was definitely intrigued with what would happen to Oliver and Desiree. Luckily, I was able to dive right into SUSY Asylum, and while it wasn't as good as Provex City, it was definitely still interesting.

I think the blurb does an excellent job at describing what this book is about, so I won't bore you by just putting it into my own words.

The title caught my attention easily, and no, I'm not just saying that because it's the second book in the Lorne Family Vault series. I say that because it mentioned the word "asylum." That's a surefire way to get my attention because I love books that take place at an asylum. I think the title definitely suits the book as Oliver is trying to find out more info on SUSY Asylum.

I like this cover better than the first one. It has a more modern feel and makes it seem like an actual YA book instead of a children's book like the cover of Provex City did.

Michael Pierce does an excellent job of making the world in SUSY Asylum come to life. I was once again transported into the city of Provex City where the majority of this book takes place. Pierce's descriptions are fantastic and not once did I feel like the world building was even the slightest bit shaky.

Although the pacing wasn't as stimulating as the first book, it was definitely good enough to hold my attention. The first half of the book starts out a little slow but not slow enough where it becomes boring. However, the pacing really kicks up a gear in the second half of the book and doesn't slow down. In fact, I ended up staying up late to finish the last 40% of this book which is something I've hardly done for any ebook.

The plot was much more fascinating in the first book of the series, but SUSY Asylum's plot was fascinating as well. I found it interesting to see who Oliver and Desiree navigated Provex City without actually being from that plane. I also liked Desiree's idea of how Oliver could impersonate a Lorne to not have to pay for anything. It was also interesting to watch Oliver's idea take form when he had to try to rescue Desiree even though he had no idea where she might be. I will say that the end of the book leaves you with a few questions in order to get you to read the third book in the series (which I am so totally going to do), but I wouldn't say it's a major cliff hangar.

Pierce does an excellent job of still making his characters feel real. All of the characters from Provex City are in SUSY Asylum with the exception of TJ who is in it but only for memory's sake. Oliver still felt like he was a down to Earth guy even if I didn't agree with his decisions especially the one that put him in extreme danger. Desiree stopped being my favorite character in this book simply because she seemed a little bit selfish in this book. There's also a few new characters that are introduced such as Nero who I did like because of how friendly he was and Darius who I wanted to disappear simply because he was getting in the way of Desiree and Oliver becoming a couple.

Like the first book in the series, SUSY Asylum's dialogue flows smoothly and everyone speaks just like I'd imagine someone their age would. There are a couple of swear words, but nothing too bad.

Overall, SUSY Asylum is an interesting book even if it isn't as good as its predecessor. The characters are down to Earth, the plot is interesting, and it's just well written in general.

I'd recommend this book to those aged 14+ who would love to get stuck in a fascinating series and have read Provex City.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

After reading SUSY Asylum, I'm still amazed how much this series affects me. This might sound crazy, but the world Michael Pierce has built seems so real that I want to stare off into the distance to try to see Provex City for myself. You feel like you could definitely move between planes of existence if you had Mr. Gordon teaching you how to tap into that ability. That's how real the story feels to me.

In the first book, Provex City, Mr. Gordon had mentioned that perhaps some people have tragic lives because they "signed up" on purpose in order to teach or help others in some way. That idea really resounded with me and stays with me even now. I don't know whether reincarnation is a reality or not, but if it is, then understanding why tragedy occurs begins to almost make sense, especially if you forgot you had signed up for it, sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of others.

The story of this series is complicated in the best way possible. There's so much to think about and new ways of thinking about things you already know. That's amazing to be able to do that using fiction! SUSY Asylum is a well deserving sequel to Provex City. In this installment, Oliver and Desiree return to Provex City and find out there are conspiracy theories about the Lorne family, and that everyone has a mirror image (their opposite) that wants to use their body to live forever. That really freaked me out, especially because when Oliver is in Provex City, he hears a voice that sounds like his own trying to talk him into doing certain things.

Oliver and Desiree find out things in Provex City aren't as magical and wonderful as they seem, and that there's a lot more under the surface to be discovered than they previously thought. The problem is that the process of discovery is riddled with danger. I was happy to not only get more background with Desiree and T.J., but also that new complications have come up - is there something more than friendship blossoming between Desiree and Oliver? Is Oliver's father really fighting for the rebellion? Which Lorne family members can be trusted and which are still serving the deceased Kafka? Is Kafka truly dead? Will Oliver be reunited with his father?

It was quite a journey finding out the answers as I read SUSY Asylum, and definitely one I won't ever forget. This is a world you'll want to revisit again and again with all of its positives and negatives.

Since the first book sort of ended in a place that drove me crazy, I was more than eager to read the second one and find out what the heck was gonna happen next. I had come to adore Oliver and his voice and I was excited to read another book from his perspective.

The book takes place a few weeks after the first book ended. Not too much time has passed and the characters are just getting back into the groove of things after the epic inter- dimensional travel from book one. Okay, maybe dimensional is the wrong world. Whatever- I'm still using it.

Anyway! After some crazy teenage drama, the characters return to Provex City. If you read the first book, we only got a taste of the alternate... dimension. *sigh* world, dimension, WHATEVER. Anyway, we only got a small taste of it. This book is chock full of Provex City. (: A few of the nagging questions from book one are touched on, but there is still SO MUCH left to be answered. I don't know who all the bad guys are or who might be a good guy.

Susy Asylum still has the original paranormal, yet fantasy vibe we got from book one and all the characters from book one are back in semi- full force.

Some parts of the books had me worried. There was the small problem that a character I had sort of adored in book one began to grate on my nerves.. Don't worry, it's not Oliver. :D He's still great (well, yeah, for the most part). But I felt that after one slip up in book one, this character would reaffirm their awesomeness in my eyes. *sigh* I guess I will just have to see if they earn back my love in book 3.

The whole concept of this book had me freaking out a few times. I mean... an asylum? How cool/ terrifying is that? I kept picturing American Horror Story (which to be honest gave me nightmares. Aliens... *shudders* Getting back on topic) But man, there are some twists that you DO NOT see coming. *nods* So , Michael Pierce has managed to create an entertaining and well- thought out sequel to his Provex city filled with more action and creativity than its predecessor. But it still left me with so many freaking questions. O.O

And seriously? The ending? Come on, man. *glares* Why do you do this to me? WHY?

SUSY Asylum

“We are wolves among sheep.” – Oliver Grain, SUSY Asylum.

SUSY Asylum by Michael Pierce once again follows Oliver Grain into the higher plane of Provex City, but as he delves deeper into the city the truths he uncovers could very well destroy him. I have to say I was slightly disappointed with Oliver’s lack of progress with his gifts in the first half of this story. But the last few chapters more than made up for it.

SUSY Asylum pretty much continues where the story left off in Provex City. We get to see Oliver and Jeremy’s Dad come home from the hospital and deal with the family drama from his miraculous recovery. We also learn a lot more about T.J. in this story including how Desiree and Blaine fit into what happened to him.

Pierce does a fantastic job of setting the scene and showing us how different things are between the planes of existence. I absolutely love the way he describes Provex City. It’s majestic and dangerous and I can’t help being as enamored with it as Desiree is. We learn so much about what people are capable of in the city in this book and we also learn a great deal about the Lorne’s.

Oliver meet’s quite a few Lorne’s while gallivanting around the city and boy are they bad ass. I don’t want to give away too much of the story, but when SUSY Asylum is finally introduced the story picks up at a manic pace. I could not put my Kindle down. Seeing what Oliver went through and how he finally understood himself in the end was pretty damn amazing.

Pierce has a way with words and his storytelling capabilities always seem to stretch far beyond my expectations and SUSY Asylum was no different. I cannot wait until the third book in this series; it can’t get here fast enough. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting, distinctive, and fast paced plot.

All the dangers warned about in book 1 became a reality in  book 2, SUSY Asylum . The world building continues to be amazing and the twists and turns that the story takes as mind over matter and alternate planes of existence are conquered by Oliver and Desiree are fascinating.

The main characters go through so much that it’s easy to forget that they're high school sophomores.  Events that would break the average adult make Oliver and Desiree stronger.  Their characters grow a lot as Oliver learns to face his fears and I Desiree finally lets go of her guilt over TJ.

The reader gets more backstory about TJ’s suicide which creates closure to his and Desiree's story. It's heartbreaking and if you are a little sensitive to the subject of suicide I would just skip the chapter titled TJ & Desiree (H), it's close to the end of SUSY Asylum.  Obviously, the end result is the same just without the graphic details.

The end of the book leaves us in an earthquake that rocks both worlds. Book 2, Susy Asylum  was a darker journey into Provex City. I enjoyed it and and am curious to discover what will happen in book 3 of The Lorne Family Vault Series .

I absolutely 100% loathe Desiree. I do. I don't think she has any redeeming qualities. But this story...OH THIS STORY. I'm absolutely intrigued and want to just gobble up more! Mr Gordon (Daniel) and his teachings are fascinating to me and makes me wish that every time I gaze off into space, I, too, could see into another plane of consciousness. I thought it took a bit to get to SUSY Asylum, but every single step was necessary and SUSY does not disappoint for sheer viciousness. I felt SO bad for Anna and tears came to my eyes...I'm hoping that despite coming from our plane, there is an alternative for her. There sure seemed to be for Eli, that volatile jerkwad!

If you haven't guessed yet, I was thoroughly engrossed in this second installment in the Lorne Family vaults. Some of the characters I found so incredibly annoying (coughDesireecough) and just pffft on her; others endeared themselves to me despite me wanting to smack them (uhhh Oliver!) but all in all this is a story that you WANT to finish.

Warning: cliffhanger ending. /sigh. I should be used to these by now, but every single time when it's a story I've totally engrossed in, I want to throw myself onto my bed and just throw a hissy fit. Yeah...that's how I came up with a tiffy fit. I'm throwing a tiffy fit. ;) More, please, Mr. Pierce!
