Worldwide plague? Government conspiracy? Bioweapon disaster? Hell set loose? You’re not even close...
Struggle alongside Donovan and his friends as they desperately cling to survival in a world ravaged by the undead, monsters and other horrors. After being bitten, Donovan is led towards a flashing light in the distance. Does the beacon offer salvation or merely a new challenge for him?
Zombies, monsters, secrets and lies. All of these things hurt, and kill, indiscriminately; finding you no matter where/who you are. The Zombie Prophecies begins with these horrors and a mysterious light calling survivors to a ruined apartment complex. Familiar, expected causes behind a zombie apocalypse are absent, replaced with a fresh, horrifying view on the end of our world.
While an English Scholar and Personal Care Assistant by day, Adam’s passion has been, and always will be, writing - until “every one of [his] fingers falls off”.
Furiously crafting his own classics from a single name, Adam draws inspiration from immersing himself within the world around him, whether it is by watching life intersect at the point of a busy street , or happily helping a young, devoted fan complete a school report about his favorite author. When he does take a break, Sigrist also enjoys peaceful walks, camping, relaxing and hanging out with his friends.
A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sigrist comes from a large family which includes three sisters and two nieces whom he “loves more than anything in this world.” His military parents nourished his budding talent by providing him some of their favorite books from the likes of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
This had some seriously gruesome parts in it! As a horror / zombie book I expect it to have some blood and guts but I absolutely loved the way Adam Sigrist was able to make this as real as possible. The beginning of this just had me craving more, slightly like a zombie myself, and Adam delivers. There is some serious carnage in this, so much so that I was like… OWWW DAMN!!! I do NOT want to die like that, k? Thanks!!!
So, the beginning is fabulous… I got a little lost after the start. There are some things that happen and I was just going with the punches, very curious as to where this was going to go. I mean this sounds ridiculous, but some parts seemed outlandish. Ok, I get it. I’m reviewing a ZOMBIE book and I just wrote that some parts were a bit out there… I know. But I guess what I’m saying is that they didn’t jive with me. And wound up bringing up a lot of questions… like, WHAT THE HELL? A lot of questions still need to be answered, but I think it’s worth the reading. It’s almost sci fi / paranormal in certain aspects, but again, worth the read even though I’m not a sci fi fan.
The characters were amazing. So real. I could feel every time something happened to someone, and I think Adam has a real knack for making you vested in the characters. I was quite literally frightened for them! And as I said above, in some cases I so don’t want to die like some of these people do!
I’m really curious about book two. I think this is just whetting a horror fan’s appetite. And the way Adam Sigrist writes, I’m sure he’s going to deliver! I just want answers please!!
Ohhh… and the synopsis and cover: BRILLIANT! Rating: 3.5/5
Zombies stories are one of those things I know I should stay away from but I just can't. Usually it's only the movies that give me nightmares - this book managed to do it. So for a zombie movie to get under my skin like this...it definitely deserves five stars.
From the beginning, the outbreak starts oddly, for this is definitely a unique and intriguing take on zombies. The hints of conspiracy and the unusual effects of the zombie pathogen on different people reminds me a little of Resident Evil - but only in the same way that a bottle of red wine might remind me of raspberries or chocolate. Sigrist has taken a cool concept and run with it, with his story certainly catching me along the way.
Better yet, he included the perspectives of some of the infected - something I've rarely seen in zombie books - and he does it well.
One thing I liked was that two of his protagonists are a gay couple and the men in question don't harp on it in the story. They're simply together and it's a part of the story, without any angst over who they are from their perspective or anyone else's. The plot (and I won't spoil it) is about how the dwindling number of protagonists survive the zombie apocalypse, where the humans can be as dangerous as the zombies.
Well worth a read (particularly if you don't get nightmares, like I did) and I'll be looking out for the next book in the series.
Wow, okay so I’m shook. This has me shaken not stirred. I don’t even know where to begin with how much I enjoyed this. So this book is written in 3rd person but each chapter is focused on one of the characters and how they deal with the apocalypse I thought it would be difficult to keep track of all of the characters but the author has written this book to make one cohesive plot line and I was SUPER impressed. This book is thrilling and fun and horrifying and dramatic. I would seriously suggest it. My one issue is that of the characters descriptions. There didn’t seem to be many. I get that one of the characters, Noah, is black and Marian may be Asian? I assumed everyone else is white. But regardless, I prefer my characters descriptions laid out for me otherwise I feel like I’m reading blindly. This is definitely horror but it wasn’t that scary. More thrilling than anything. The cliffhanger made me so anxious. Reminded me of stranger things. Read. Read. Read. Read this. Also I just checked the date and this book came out like 4 years. I’m assuming there’s a sequel to this because of the cliffhanger but I can’t find any mention of it. I have to know what happens next.
AWESOME! while this book has all the hallmarks of a great zombie story [interesting characters, ZOMBIES!!, societal constructs devolving, people at their breaking point] it also has a VERY intriguing mystery and mythology surrounding the events. What IS going on? Who is Charles and what does he know? What is Felicia? What is happening?? What's the real story behind the 'outbreak'? what's going to happen? I'm very invested in this story! Lots of action, lots of great characters - I can't wait for book 2!
Following the lives of Donovan and his friends as the world descends into chaos, this book is impossible to put down. The intricacy in which connections are made throught the story and the amount of surprising twists keeps you on edge for the entire read. So much imagination in these pages leaves me anxiously waiting for sequel!
At first, I struggled with First Light. The opening chapter was a little odd, and I had trouble getting into the story. The perspective switched so often in the beginning that I almost gave up on it. That is, until Donovan and his friends enter the picture. I figured almost right away that they were the actual focus of the story, and the opening chapters had been just to give us a glimpse of what was happening – but I would’ve perferred one glimpse, not several, before we got into the action. The POV switches are hard to read through, and the writing is also less good as it is in the rest of the story.
Once Donovan and his friends come in, the entire story gets a lot better. There’s more action, the writing is better, the pacing is faster, and we really get to know the characters. I thought, originally, that this would be just another zombie stoyr, and hadn’t really minded because I haven’t read all that many zombie books yet. But there’s a lot more going on here than simpy a zombie apocalypse. For instance, not all people bitten get turned. At first, it appears quite random who turns and who doesn’t, but in time, it becomes obvious there must be some mechanism behind it. There’s also a lot of mythology and background story that really makes this book stand out.
The .pdf copy I got was 140 pages, so I expected it to be a quick read – but it reads more like a 300+ pages book. There’s a lot of stuff on one page. When I looked it up on Amazon, it’s actually 306 pages in paperback format. So there you go. Don’t be fooled by the .pdf size, it’s actually quite a long book, but the pacing is fast, so that definitely helps.
I liked the original elements Adam Sigrist included in his novel, as well as the characters. You really get to identify with Donovan and his friends as they struggle for their lives, and as Donovan tries to hide he’s been bitten.
An excellent book for fans of horror and zombies. I will keep my eye out for more books by this author, especially the second part to this series.
Let my start by saying that I have read every book written by Mr.Adam Sigrist. I have thoroughly enjoyed his entire collection of prose. His grammar is usually spot on. The interaction of his characters has been fun and delightful. At times one can predict the course of the story. I must say that it hasn't detracted from the fun and enjoyment of reading the story. I highly recommend Mr. Sigrist. I don't believe that you'll be disappointed, so grab a book sit back with a Coke ™ and enjoy.
I remember first reading this book on wattpad and now I'm seriously considering buying it just to reread it. I had adored this book and I loved the characters and the p.o.v. Donovan and his boyfriend (I can't remember his name but I think it was Jason) along with his other friends were really well developed. The writing is spot on. It has engaging characters, good action, realistic romance, gore, and it's one of the few books nowadays that respect zombies and make them scary.
