Supalux was the world's largest manufacturer of commercial and industrial lighting solutions. Year upon year, sales had grown exponentially. Share prices were through the roof.
Pete was just one of the regular workers, dreaming about the possibility of attaining some kind of a promotion. When he is offered the position of night shift supervisor, he jumps at the chance.
It's not a particularly difficult job. All he needs to do is make sure that everybody gets on with their work. He needs to make sure that everybody is safe. He needs to make sure that nobody dies...
Unfortunately for Pete, that might be taken out of his hands entirely...
Harrison Phillips is an English author of horror, sci-fi and fantasy. His literary influences range from Clive Barker and Stephen King, to Jack Ketchum and Edward Lee. He was born and raised in Birmingham, England, where he still resides with his long-suffering wife, their two daughters, and a schnauzer named Minnie.
3.5 stars. This was a fun outing with Harrison Phillips. Full of sex, gore, and it all reeked of cheesy 80s horror. What else could a horror fan ask for? Pete was a good lead, but he needed a ton more development. The way he was written just made him feel like a placeholder. The story moved extremely quick and sort of became one-note after awhile. We were treated to a ton of side characters that just died one by one and that ended up taking a good chunk of the book. I'm all for having a good body count, but this just got very repetitive and made you sort of uninterested, knowing how it would turn out for everyone else. The ending had all of these unexpected and really great plot points, which really should have been focused on much more, but it all got breezed through. Pete's conclusion also felt really underwhelming and the entire finale just felt rushed. I know that it sounds like I really disliked this story, but I actually liked it quite a bit. It just had some core issues that took away from the whole experience.
“Night Shifters,” by Harrison Phillips, is a splatter-slasher novella that doesn’t hold back.
A night shift in a large factory is the perfect setting for a slasher. Some of my favorite slasher movies, The Intruder and Chopping Mall, take place in a building at night. The story had good pacing and setup. Harrison drops people in a factory and sets a killer loose. Blood is spilled early in the story, and brutality doesn’t is consistent until the end.
The kill scenes and victim/ assailant struggles are so vivid. Readers can see skulls cracking, blood splattering, bone-shattering, and body parts being torn and obliterated to nothing. Things get grim fast for these unsuspecting night shifters. Their feelings of unease and uncertainty pop off the page.
“Night Shifters” reads like a slasher movie. I loved it. I need more blood-splattering fun from Harrison Phillips.
wow this book was fantastic, I’ve been loving Harrison’s work recently and this book was absolutely fantastic. I love the way the murders take place they are perfectly spaced out and we get plenty of information needed to keep us entertained! Their is plenty of action, blood and gore for the length of the novel, sometime I believe some horror novel just go a little overboard with the violence to a point it’s not even enjoyable but this dose the opposite! The story it’s self was absolutely fantastic and it’s well thought out it had a brilliant twist at the end which I loved and didn’t expect. The characters were all very interesting and I liked we got a little information about each character before they were killed! Overall this was a fantastic story 4✨✨
This was a good bloody read. Life in a factory can be dull and boring, but for one night things take a drastic change after a unseen promotion. With unpredictable accidents, brutal and vicious gore stricken deaths. You are pulled into the horrors of the nightshifters. Why all these terrors happen you will have to read to find out. With a great storyline and characters, you will be entertained and enthralled, as well as sickened throughout. Recommended to anyone whom enjoys the more extreme horror or don't mind gory details.
Nightshifters is an enjoyable slasher that lags a little at the end. The setting, a factory, and cast of characters, blue collar workers, offers an original take on the slasher genre.
