About the author

Alan Moore is an English writer most famous for his influential work in comics, including the acclaimed graphic novels Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell. He has also written a novel, Voice of the Fire, and performs "workings" (one-off performance art/spoken word pieces) with The Moon and Serpent Grand Egyptian Theatre of Marvels, some of which have been released on CD.

As a comics writer, Moore is notable for being one of the first writers to apply literary and formalist sensibilities to the mainstream of the medium. As well as including challenging subject matter and adult themes, he brings a wide range of influences to his work, from the literary–authors such as William S. Burroughs, Thomas Pynchon, Robert Anton Wilson and Iain Sinclair; New Wave science fiction writers such as Michael Moorcock; horror writers such as Clive Barker; to the cinematic–filmmakers such as Nicolas Roeg. Influences within comics include Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Kirby and Bryan Talbot.

Someone recommended reading THE WATCHMEN to me because I was told it was one of the best out there. After reading the first issue, I now know why.

The illustrations were a bit outdated, but I didn't really mind. I'm more curious as to what happened to the Comedian and why this person thinks someone was out there, killing these retired masked heroes.

From the first page, you immediately know that this series would have a dark theme. I've only read the first issue, but I could already tell, I would not recommend this to younger readers.

This is one of the best comic book series I've read. The story is well written and intriguing just what you expect from Alan Moore works. I also loved the graphic. Amazing.

داستان کمیک واچمن (Watchmen) ماجرای قهرمانان سابقی است که حالا یا بازنشسته شده‌اند، یا برای دولت ایالات متحده آمریکا کار می‌کنند یا از قانون گریزان‌اند. در ظاهر هیچ کدامشان در متن دوران تاریکی که در آن زندگی می‌کنند و هر لحظه احتمال وقوع یک جنگ اتمی بین قدرت‌های دنیا وجود دارد قرار ندارند اما در واقع آن‌ها بزرگ‌ترین عامل جلوگیری از این جنگ هستند… یا شاید بهتر باشد بگوییم آن‌ها بزرگ‌ترین عامل بروز یک جنگ دیگراند.

Great start, the story is compelling from the very first page and the archaic art-style is beautifully congruent to the story line.
I enjoyed my first meeting and impression of the main characters. The different watchmen and masked heroes are solid figures with distinguished features from the very first issues.
I am especially impressed by the formatting and scenography, which are often overlooked in this media, that add depth to the narration. Especially how the opening and closing page are cyclical and artistically linked.

Иако сви знамо да је најбољи стрип Загор, понекад мора да се прочита и нешто друго. Избор је пао на Вочмене, јер сам то некад давно скинуо и сад налетио на то. Иако сам гледао одлични истоимени филм (а какав ће бити него одличан кад га режира Зак Снајдер???), то је било толико давно да сам све позаборављао и запамтио само феноменалног Роршаха, антихероја који иде около и млати људе и пљује по либералима, што га аутоматски чини најбољим суперхеројем свих времена (а и феноменално га је одиграо феноменални Џеки Ерл Хејли), затим некаквог огромног голаћа који је ваљда неки супермоћан ентитет и суперхеројску секс сцену Патрика Вилсона и Малин Акерман. Чини ми се, као кроз маглу, да је Др. Менхетн (онај голаћ) нешто и зезно Роршаха на крају, али можда се и варам. У сваком случају, ово прво читање стрипа као да ми је прво!

У овом првом (опет та ријеч!) од укупно дванаест томова упознали смо се са нашим предивним (анти)херојем Роршахом, кога овде не игра Џеки Ерл Хејли јер ово је стрип а не филм, и са поставком радње, која изгледа отприлике овако: Неки лик се сурдукнуо из свог стана на бетон и остао на мјесту мртав. Претпоставља се да је у питању убиство. Наш херој Роршах долази на лице мјеста и вјештим покретима вјешалице открива тајну просторију са суперхеројским артефактима, из чега закључујемо да је дотични погинули лик био суперхерој (!). Иначе, колико нам је натукнуто, суперхеројима је забрањен рад неких седам или осам година раније Миланским едиктом... не, чекај, Хејсовим кодом... упс, заборавио сам тачно чиме, али неком страшно битном уредбом. Огромна већина њих повукла се у гајење цвијећа, осим Др. Менхетна и његове женске којој сам већ заборавио име, који ваљда обављају неке експерименте за америчку владу. И наравно Роршаха који ради... не знам тачно шта ради, али је врло активан. Рецимо неком лику у кафани је поломио прсте. Не знам дал сте примијетили, али ово је нека врста алтернативне стварности, јер у стварном свијету суперхероји нису постојали у осамдесетима.

Наш херој Роршах је узнемирен убиством јер сматра да је неко кренуо у мисију оффовања пензионисаних суперхероја (чини ми се да је то приличан стретцх у овој раној фази, али ето) и зато обилази своје познанике из суперхеројских дана и упозорава их на суперхеројског убицу. Ал најбоље је кад дође код Др. Менхетна да га "упозори", а ово нека гола грдосија од пет метара са неким пакленим супермоћима, мислим ко би до ђавола уопште конто да спопадне Др. Менхетна. И онда кад је Роршах нешто изнервиро Менхетнову женску, овај само пуцне прстима и телепортује Роршаха напоље. Треба направити алтернативну верзију стрипа у којој Роршах рокне ту будалу.

Цртеж нисам компетентан да коментаришем, па ћемо само кратко рећи нешто о писању, које такође нисам компетентан да коментаришем. Мислим да је писање 99% сјајно, одличне су реченице, има доста саркастичних опаски и "куда иде овај свијет" филозофирања које ми увијек добро сједа, једино је експозиција мало неспретна у појединим тренуцима и ликови намјерно говоре наглас оно што им је добро познато само да би читаоца упознали с тим.

Оно што је такође у одређеној мјери гњаважа је што се свака епизода завршава са неколико страна исјечака из аутобиографије лика који је некад био суперхерој под називом Ноћна сова. Претпостављам да ће та аутобиографија да нам пружи све неопходне податке о лореу стрипа и објасни позадинска (да простите) дешавања, али ипак је пех кад лијепо прочитате 25 страна стрипа, са текстом и сличицама, и онда морате да читате пет страна неке праве књиге. Иначе су односи међу тим суперхеројима доста комплексни, рецимо лик што је рикнуо на почетку (Едвард Блејк, ака Комичар) је по одређеним свједочењима био прилично упитна личност и сексуално је напаствовао (или покушао да напаствује) мајку женске Др. Менхетна. Лик чију аутобиографију читамо је раја са још неким ликом коме сад не могу да се сјетим суперхеројског имена, али мислим да га је Патрик Вилсон глумио у филму.

Ин ени кејс, ово је мнооооого занимљиво и једва чекам да загризем сљедећу епизоду.

I'm gonna read and review the series one at a time, so that I can focus on each issue more carefully. I think it's so far one of the best. It caught my attention from the first page, the dark theme wrapping all the story space is really great.
There was a 6 page story from "Hollis Mason's autobiography, UNDER THE HOOD" which was absolutely brilliant. I could categorize this section as one of the best short stories ever! I guess it's not a common thing they do in comic books, but it was surprising and it really attached a great backstory to the enigma it's offering.

A re-read of a million re-reads… So, basically I’m moving, and unpacked one of many nostalgic boxes of books, mainly consisting of comic books and graphic novels that transported me to different worlds, but also different times in my own life. This one always resonates and is always relevant… A welcome distraction to a chronic procrastinator.

Am I............. just not smart enough to fully get this?
I liked the characters and the plot had promising aspects so I can see that as this series goes on, I might enjoy it even more, however I honestly felt like I was missing something completely ??????

أول عدد من واحدة من أشهر و أجمل سلاسل الكوميكس العظيمة و اللى اتحولت ل فيلم يصنف من افضل افلام السوبرهيروز و هو فعلا فيلم حلو جدا و ممتاز و من أكثر الافلام اللى حبيتها و الكوميكس تك نشرة فى منتصف الثمانينات للكاتب آلان مور اللى كتب كتب كوميكس كثير مشهور من ضمنها v for vendetta وBatman The killing joke
عدد بيبدا بجريمة قتل و ظهور شخصية Rorschach الغامضة اللى بتحقق فى جريمة قتل شخصية The comedian و ظهور شخصيات فريق الابطال الخارقين اللى مع تطور الاحداث هيكون ليهم ظهور اكبر و دور مهم فى الاحداث ومع كل دة دقات الساعة بتدق على اقتراب يوم الحساب
الرسومات فى الكوميكس عجبانى جدا مع الحوار لغة انجليزى دسمة خصوصا فى مذكرات Rorschach اللى بيدونها طول الاحداث

In the introduction, the authors say that they polished the book so much that they doubt if there is even a panel or a dot or a line that can be added or taken away from the whole book. This is the best description of the book. There isn't anything you can add or subtract from it. Every frame has been crafted to perfection. The stunning craft of this book is one that has to be studied, especially by students of cinema. The Watchmen series - series not either of the films that got made - has done partial justice to this craft. This one has to be read once every year.

Ever since I have seen the movie, I have been obsessed with the series. I know it's a wrong order for me but this masterwork was not known to me because graphic novels were not big buzz words for me till then. Now its different. So this kicks off the 12 part series Watchmen. May be I would be able to watch Ultimate Edition of movie. This starts with the murder of Comedian and start of Night owl. Let's see what do we have in the future.

I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

I’m really drawn to graphic novels because of how they blend visual storytelling with complex narratives, and *Watchmen* nails both. The characters are layered, and their motivations shift as the story unfolds. Even when they're not exactly likeable, they’re so deep and memorable that you can’t stop thinking about them.

Set during the Cold War, Watchmen tears apart the idea of heroism. These aren’t your typical superheroes—they're conflicted and flawed in ways that really make you think. By the end, I found myself questioning the choices they made and what those decisions meant. I loved how much depth each character had, and I know I’ll pick up on even more details when I reread it.

It’s a straightforward story, but it asks a huge question: In the quest for the greater good, who’s keeping an eye on those in power?

Aun no pasa la gran cosa pero me gusta como cada personaje tiene una perspectiva distinta del contexto social en el que viven, porque en un momento dado se permitió que existieran los heroes y como ahora son vistos como algo innecesario, peligroso y de uso exclusivo para fines políticos.

Las escenas de violencia son muy explícitas y el final del primer número donde podemos leer un fragmento del libro que crítica a los heroes es muy bueno.

Tengo muchas ganas de saber a donde se dirige esta historia.

یه چند وقتی بود که می‌خواستم سریال واچمن رو تماشا کنم، ولی شنیده بودم که باید اول کامیک‌هاش روخوند تا بشه بهتر با داستان ارتباط برقرار کرد. واسه همین هم بالاخره تصمیم گرفتم بیام سراغ این مجموعه.

این اولین کامیک بوکی هست که خوندم و فعلا چندان نظرم جلب نشده. قائدتا باید نسخه‌های بعدی رو بخونم که بتونم نظر درستی درباره داستان بنویسم. ولی فعلا برام چیز خاصی نداشته. شاید هم کامیک خوندن رو از کتاب درستی شروع نکردم. نمی‌دونم. حالا در ادامه مشخص میشه :)

Until now, I hadn't understood how much detail these pictures would add to the story. If this book DIDN'T have graphics, it would have had to be REALLY long to describe so much detail. And I love the autobiography excerpts at the end. I didn't expect that format in this book.

If you haven’t read this book yet. What the HELL are you waiting for. Honestly?! This is probably my 5th or 6th time and there are things I’m noticing and seeing. This book keeps giving. It’s so complex and rich. You fall in love and despise everyone at the same time. Ugh. I love it. READ THIS. NOW.
