Being nineteen for over three hundred years bites, and being single in New York with magical powers isn't much better.
Eva is trying to live an everyday life in New York. When this fails, she takes a seemingly unmagical job as a translator for a wealthy American family in Spain. Eva cannot stay out of trouble for long as she runs into a friendly but hungry vampire named Louis. Eva feels drawn to this handsome, dangerous stranger who has problems of his own.
Louis's life was just fine until Eva walked into his church. She smells like heaven. Or is it hell, always smelling but never partaking? Surely she is the devil coming to collect on his lost soul.
This book had a nice story. I even liked the behind the scene thoughts of both main characters. However, there seemed to be a lot of repeat writing between the chapters. Again, good story line and I enjoyed the characters and the very unique love story.
I was sent an e copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Somehow, I managed to start reading this book without realizing it was about vampires. Once I did realize that yes, it was indeed heavily about vampires, I got a little worried. I haven’t read very many vampire stories that I actually liked. However, the Powell’s had an amazing way of showing me that there can be quite good stories about vampires. I was excited about the idea of a “last enchantress.” How horrible would it be to have to live to one thousand years old and be the last of your race?
About the writing style: I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of the back and forth character chapters when the exact same dialogues were included. I didn't think that was necessary to have to reread the same stuff as we had just read in the chapter before. However, I did enjoy the extended descriptions of what happened from Louis's POV when Eva was sleeping.
I was not drawn to Eva’s character at all when I first started reading. To me she seemed snobbish and a little whiny. She didn't stay that way though, towards the end she started showing real potential for a great character and heroine. Eva did have quite a few parts that made me giggle, like the fact that because she was living in a vampire covenant she needed to eat a lot to keep her energy up to keep herself safe. My favorite part of Eva’s regarding her eating situation is where she is thinking to herself: "Hopefully one of them would have a churro in her handbag." Despite what she knows and what her mother told her about vampires, Eva finds herself falling head over heels for the dangerously gorgeous (and hungry) Louis.
As soon as I realized that this wasn't just a boring vampire story where the main character gets seduced by a vampire and gets turned into a vampire-type story I immediately fell in love with Louis’s character. Once I found out that his intentions were to have Eva rule the vampire community with him, I fell for him all the more. Louis has such a solid character and I really loved how his intense feelings for Eva continuously surprised him.
The Last Enchantress is a love story through and through. I simply adored the love between Louis and Eva—such an impossible love! Louis's main conflict is turning Eva into a vampire so she can rule as Queen of the Vampires with him. She doesn't want to be one, and I was really pleased with how the author went about making her NOT turn into a vampire. I won’t spoil it, but Eva really turns out to be a kick ass enchantress when she is finally able to use her powers. I really really liked how the author made me think through the whole book that turning Eva into a vampire is the only option . . . but it really isn't.
“And here I thought I needed to protect my beautiful rose, when she obviously came with some thorns of her own”
I enjoyed this book and give it a 3 star rating. It has a slew of wonderful plot twists that keep you reading. The characters are good, especially Louis. I really thought the character development in this book was great and I felt like I actually knew the characters personally. In the end we are left with a cliffhanger, so I do believe (and hope) there will be more to this story of the Last Enchantress. I recommend the Last Enchantress anyone looking for a good vampire romance story—if you are interested you can pick it up right now from amazon for only .99 cents!

Eva is the last of her kind. She is an Enchantress, a being that will live a thousand years, unless she is murdered. Her parents were murdered during the last battle between Enchanters and Vampires, which the Vampires won. Eve hid for the next three hundred years.
Eva has many enemies, all of them Vampires, and given the chance, they would all kill her.
All would kill her except one. He has done something he thought he was unable to do. He has fallen in love.
Although a bit difficult to read because it keeps changing points of view, this is a fun read. If you’d like to see a new twist on vampires, you’ll love this book. It combines love and power, hate and weakness, innocence and evil, and strength where you would never expect it.
And it adds magic, as if magic could be reintroduced to the world since the elimination of the Enchanters, the beings of magic.
This is a modern-day fairytale book, full of surprises, fun and danger, a fairytale for our time.
I must say, I fell in love with this book the first time I saw the cover. It was just gorgeous. But the book itself is way better than the cover. It is excellent!
The main character, Eva, is a strong young woman, but not in the way that she seems invincible. She is smart and careful, but finds herself hopelessly falling for the dangerously handsome Louis.
I loved the way the authors wrote the book from both Eva’s and Louis’s point of view. I could visualize everything perfectly and felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new fantasy novel.
I liked the plot. It's different from other books I have read. The story was told from the view of the two main characters, with each chapter told by a character. This brought about a lot of repetition, but brought valuable insight at the same time. There also seemed to be a lot of typos at the end like they were in a hurry to finish or edit.
Very different, magnificently put together!! I love how these authors gave us a different approach on vampires & let us see things from an absolutely entertaining, duo-perspective! I'd be interested in reading more about Louise & Eve, since this wasn't really a cliffhanger, but leaves things open for more to come..
A good book (I love vampire books)but I didn't like how much repetition there was between the two different POV's. It would have worked and been better if the same information hadn't been shared each time. I skipped over a lot of pages.
