Once popular, almost sixteen year old, Kenzie Hudson is in a world of trouble. Her father has been shot, her friends have deserted her and she’s running for her life.
Kenzie has to learn to cope on her own on the streets of Denver while trying to find a stranger who might be able to help her solve the mystery of her Dad’s shooting and the mysterious device the shooters are after. Why did her father tell her not to go to the police? Who is Sam Grainger and how does he fit into the mystery? Can she trust the street girl she meets? And can her childhood friend, Justin, who has become a real hottie, help her before the shooters find her?
Any book that begins with the line, "I couldn't have picked a worse day to die," grabs me at the get-go. Such an opening promises action and suspense, and Fox delivers on both counts. I found myself rooting for Kenzie from page one. I could hardly imagine the nightmare she suffered before her escape and disappearing act. Fox weaves in a host of quirky characters, both good and bad. The trick is figuring out who's the good guy and who's the bad guy. (BYW, I thought I had them all figured out, but I was wrong!)
Hide and Seek is the book for you if you enjoy diving headfirst into a teen's life, chewing your nails through her crisis, and rejoicing in her resolution.
Hise & Seek is a fast-paced read, suspenseful read. The characters are engaging and the story keeps you hooked from start to finish. The settings draw you in to the story as well. I'd love to read more by the author.
Not really to my taste, I thought the story was a bit predictable and I just didn't connect with the protagonist. Might be a good suggestion for reluctant readers as there's plenty of action and it's set in Denver.
