Since these books are so short, I won't really do an in depth review until the final book. But a few thoughts for this installment: once again, intense! Things get dark. Things get bloodier. Without giving any spoilers, there were a number of deaths that I was shocked by. And in typical "Resident Evil" fashion, zombies can't just stay zombies. There's always gotta be the character who just mutates out of nowhere with no explanation. I'm seriously loving this story and the direction it's going. And yah for the arrival of Chris Redfield! I'm hoping that the final two installments feature Chris a lot more since he's barely even been in the series so far. Off to book 4!
I loveeee this series so far!! I love books that are so good I can't put them down. This series is one of those ><
Although this series is good, there's only one thing I dislike about it. Merah Biji is OVERALLY sexualized and not just her but other females too. I'm not trying to be weird but its so obvious that they're sexualizing the women in this series. That's the only thing I don't like. It honestly ruins it slightly for me because it makes me a bit uncomfortable. Call me sensitive all you want, but thats how I feel. I'd be the same way if it were the guys. I love Merah though, and I also like Ricky and Bindi!! ^^
This might be a spoiler but im not gonna mark this review as a spoiler cus im not sure. I was not expecting that plot twist it was crazy. I love resident evil this is so cool to read.
This is the only story of the series I read and I have not much knowledge about the Resident Evil franchise past the mediocre first and second movies they made out of it. However I can without a doubt say that the artwork is really good here, it's dark tone and shading, the details and the dirty zombies fit this story well. The pages never feel full despite all the details and they complement each other nicely. Now the story is basically your typical zombie/slash rampaging mutants story albeit mixed with peer pressure, corrupt school systems and corrupting power as well as people lashing out when feeling cornered. The latter part was what made the "villain" for a lack of a better term, here so sympathetic to me. Despite her craziness you do see why she became this way and why she basically snapped and to be honest, I cannot really be sorry for many of their victims because they had been arrogant snobs or cowards so obsessed with their image that they could have easily snapped as well and quite frankly, in this case the actually "villain" could just as well have been any of them. I liked the character of the protagonist and after all these dimwits I read about it is nice to see a teenage with some brain and competence. Sometimes however, rarely but still there, you get some moments that feel rather like details in a video game, that feel out of place, but like I said, they were rare. So all in all, not a very lifec-hanging book, but it fits into the horror genre and knows what it's doing.
I continue to be impressed by this series. In this volume the outbreak at the school finally gets totally of control. The school goes zombie apocalypse as we see a new side of one of the main characters, as well as more of the backstory as to what happened to cause it all. Just when it looks like things are hopeless, Chris Redfield and his team finally arrive..
On to the next volume, and as always, this series truly is a must for any Resident Evil fan. (And did I mention just how hot the females are in this volume? The short skirts and the thigh highs are...but I digress.)
Considering I have a tendency to read several series of manga at the same time I am alway glad to see a synopsis of previous events in certain manga so we can get a quick summary of what happened in the last volume (I believe this is more for those that are reading as the series is being released or can't afford all the books at once to read all at once.) This series doesn't just show you a few pics with footnoted but has an impressive recap of events so technically you could even skip the last volume if you wanted to but I assure you that if you are not bothered by zombies and horror then you should definitely read and take in volumes 1 and 2 before reading volume 3.
In this volume after discovering the monster responsible for turning students and staff at Manhawa Academy into zombies sacrifices will have to be made, the truth about the monster is exposed, and her ally is exposed. Being the middle volume of the series the action is really ramping up and the quality of the artwork is not declining. With no way to escape or communicate with the outside it is easy to imagine the worse case scenario as the academy turns into another Raccoon City yet the B.S.A.A. were able to figure out something was wrong and show up to the party when things seem their bleakest. How the team will work with the few survivors that show enough bravery to fight against the hoards of undead will be covered in the last 2 volumes of the series. :)
In Volume 3 we get a huge plot twist, exposition, an outbreak, more characters, and the action gets kicked up several notches.
Although I was disappointed with the awkwardly abrupt handling of the plot twist, I think it's hard to write prequels (especially ones for such a large video game series like Resident Evil) and it's unfair of me to have literary expectations for this series in general. Luckily, Volume 3 makes good use of a cliff-hanger and I'm excited to see what happens next.
I love when I find a series of books that lead me to more series of books. I defiantly going to hunt down volume 4 and 5 of this series, and the Resident Evil Heavenly Island series, that this author does as well. Makes me so giddy finding a series I like and now their another too!
Zombie-epidemian taustojen selvittely jatkuu. Tilanne koululla on luisumassa uhkaavasti päin helvettiä, mutta johtajatar ei siltikään halua kutsua virallisia apuvoimia paikalle. MItä koulussa oikein salaillaan?
Better than the last volume, but still suffers from having almost none of the established RE characters present. Also a couple of *really* unnecessarily sexual illustrations of some of the female characters. Did I really need to see that girls panties while she was falling to her death? NOPE!
The chaos made me stressed out reading this... but in a good way, it's the same feeling going through cutscenes of the video game. The plot twist was also done right, definitely in a satisfying way.
