The Savage Wilds #2

Savage Wild Souls

Rate this book
Return to the dangerous Wilds in the lush and bloodthirsty sequel to Savage Wild Hearts.

Shatter their souls. Steal their throne.

Val is a prisoner. Held Below by the cruel Empress Sotera, she’s unable to warn the now High King Rune about Sotera’s plans to destroy the Wilds and Val’s former home in Seattle.

But when Val manages to escape, not only does she find herself beside Rune once again, she also finds herself in a new agreement with him: she’ll help him unite the Wilds in a way no High King has ever done. After all, taking the throne is one thing. Keeping it, and keeping Rune alive, is something else entirely.

Only, Val’s not the same person she was before. She doesn’t know what she is, not to herself, and not to Rune, even as his fascination with her grows stronger by the day.

To save Rune and the Wilds, Val will have to navigate constantly shifting alliances. And in doing so she just might become their salvation, or the very thing that destroys them all.

Fans of epic adventures with morally gray characters, a lush fantasy world, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance will love Savage Wild Souls, the second book in the Savage Wilds series.

I have so many unread books on my shelf that I've considered stopping reading ARCs a few times – and Savage Wild Souls is the perfect example of why I'm happy I didn't, because otherwise, I would never have discovered this fantastic series.

I found the first part very good, and it's always a question if the second part will be just as anazing. And it was! I truly hope this series gets adapted into a film or tv show someday, because the world-building, the characters, the suspense – everything is just fantastic. The slow-burn romance is also very well executed, and I love that Rune doesn't suddenly become a huge softie when it comes to Val, as I've seen in so many other books. The characters are really well-developed and wonderfully complex. I am eagerly looking forward to the final part!

Wow! I love it when a good series gets even better and Mr. Fletcher has done just that with SAVAGE WILD SOULS. As we get to know Rune, Val and some of the other wildlings better, we also get to discover that some legends just might be real. All three realms continue to clash in more and more dramatic way. And Val remains the wild card in the deck.

I really enjoyed this second book set in an alternate Puget Sound. As I got deeper into the book, I found it easy to slip into that reality. I wanted to sit Rune and Val down with instructions to not move until they really talked. I wanted to slap Xander and tell him to think. In other words, they became my friends. .It was also appreciated that I wasn’t pulled from the story by editing errors.

I highly recommend SAVAGE WILD SOULS to any reader that enjoys dark urban fantasy. There is a lot of violence as the characters are at war. Readers will also find a lot of sexual tension but no graphic sex scenes. If I could, I would give this book 4.5 stars.

Love this series so much

Savage Wild Souls by @seanfletcherauthor was one of my most anticipated sequels of the year and it did not disappoint. Rune and Val are reunited to save the Wilds from enemies within the Wilds and the humans. If you love morally grey characters, slow burn romance, found family, exquisite world building, banter, court intrigue, revenge and redemption tropes then you will love this series. The book ends on a cliff hanger and the third installment cannot come soon enough for me. #savagewildsouls #seanfletcher #morallygreyismyfavcolor #banterfordays #slowburnromance #revengeandredemption #thesavagewilds

A fun unique fantasy read! If you love morally grey characters and slow burn romance this series is a great one to pick up. While slower and a little more dragged out than book 1, this story is so interesting and different. I loved Runes character, and I am here for the romance but there was a lot of back and forth between him and Val that had nothing to do with romance that I didn’t like. I think mostly it was Val that threw me off because at times it seemed like her personality flip flopped in this book.

Overall a great story and I can’t wait for book 3!

Val being a mix of human and Below finally answered the pending question of why she was so drawn to the Wilds and never was comfortable solely in the human realm. Her development into a true leader and the budding relationship between her and Rune was the background slow burn to the action of the true war that kept things hopeful.

I feel like some of the magic development was a little lacking the world build of how other Wilds are structured and whether they are harmonious with the humans is an underdeveloped plot line. They keep being referenced as being safer and waiting on pounce but it isn't clear if the way in Seattle expands further.

I'm looking forward to diving into book 3 and see how the conclusion of this realm war goes

Sequels are hard to pull off, and this is definitely one that I think would benefit from second or subsequent read throughs. Especially after the trilogy is completed, when you have more information, and can pick up on hints along the way.

This book was definitely ambitious! For the most part, I think it managed to pull off what it was trying to accomplish. We left the rich world of the Wilds introduced in the first book, and now we know that Val isn't completely human. To start the second book, we're introduced to yet another realm within this world, that of Those Below, a crystalline species who have been trapped from the surface world by a past High Ruler of the Wilds.

Val is being held prisoner, though also introduced to the people as a chosen one. Her magic is supposed to be the key to those Below being able to make their way to the surface once again. Val can draw magic away from others, most easily from the heart gems of Wildlings, but she can also draw away from the crystal deposits that have been surfacing more and more. She can transfer this magic into another being, as well as create and use the crystal for her own.

Val has no interest in doing anything for those Below. She may be one of them, but they don't have her loyalty. Especially not Sotera, who's determined to use Val for her own agenda willingly or unwilling. When Sotera attempts to arrange a marriage between Val and the king of the Undersea, Benedeti, Val knows the time has come for her to make her escape.

Despite her newfound heritage, when she makes her way back to Rune, Val is still his blade, the trick up his sleeve. The continued closeness they share is met with suspicion, but Rune is unwilling to bend.

This book brings action, with war coming from 3 sides, as well as unrest within. There are hints of romance, and new characters explored with more depth. Each of our closest allies in Rune's court from the first book will be tested and changed, journeys that I found myself deeply invested in.

These are definitely characters that are difficult to like, though their environment contributes so much to that. The Wilds are unforgiving and treacherous, and the one thing they prove time and again is that power is the easiest thing to lose. Those who have it are always left wanting, needing more.

The stage is set for the third book, and I'm so exciting to see what's in store for us next!

I try to keep these spoiler free but I do have a couple of spoilers at the very end but I warn you before they show up.
Here we go! I still just love this new world with all the intricate details and the character development is so good. The Wilds, The Below, etc. are so mysterious and affect all people, creatures and animals so differently. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster while reading this. I was so invested that I read it in less than a day. I may have stayed up until 3 am reading 'just one more chapter' while I got sucked into this world again. Book Two definitely kept me on the edge of my seat with all the action, angst, mystery and well written drama. There were some crazy twists I never saw coming so thanks for that, don't mind me while I tend to my fragile emotions from what this author did to them 🤣 But as I always say, if a book doesn't pull me in, make me cry, yell and read late into the night, then is it really worth reading? My jaw only dropped a few times while I was reading. AND I only wanted to throw the book at the wall once or twice. 😆 When I say the suspense with the 'will they or won't they give in to their attraction and deep connection' almost unalived me, I am not being dramatic. Those are facts. 😅 Sean is going to make us wait until the very end with that and I have to admit it is one of my biggest reasons for reading this book so fast. Because SPOILER: ONLY READ IF YOU DON'T MIND A TINY SPOILER: When Rune and Val do give in to their attraction a few times it is epic and so well written. I see what you're doing and I am here for it. So, if you like slow burn and I mean sloooooooow buuuuurn this is for you. Val might be Rune's equal now that she has a kingdom and a crown of her own against Rune's wishes, I worry that this love is going to end in literal flames. I can't wait for Book 3. Faster Sean!

At first, the world was original and complex by only encompassing 2 sides - part primal, savage, lush nature populated by wild creatures with their coveted heart gems, encompassing the conquered, dwindling ruins of what was once a human world, and part dead, dry, shabby dwellings, cracked roads and a grey city where the only part of nature are humans, shrinking and desperate.
And then a conflict born of 2 species vying for survival, suspended in a fragile status-quo, expands in an universe made of kingdoms, the leader of each exulting in their strongest element - plants, rock crystals, oceans and... humans. The species of each kingdom have different powers born of the Tree of Life, and they are a mix of human and that element - except for humans and what's left of their man-made world, whose power is science. They are all savage and wild in their own way.
And what is their common denominator? What drives them to such relentless brutality in their conniving and killing? I think it is their humanity - the thirst for power, the fear, the greed, the protective instinct, the cruelty, the desperation...

And then, it progresses from micro to macro... how do you fight a God - or more?

Trying to explain this is futile, you have to read the series in order to savor every nuance, every detail, every feeling, every line. The way Sean Fletcher conveys overwhelming feelings is beautiful, and his imagination knows no bounds, the plot is often surprising, the nature lush, the colors vivid, and the twists to the story unexpected. He is also a master storyteller, bringing fascinating characters into play - from innocent bystanders to cunning politicians and everything in between.

I'm holding on to hope and impatiently waiting for the third book and its (probably) epic conclusion to the series.

Savage Wild Souls... How does one begin to describe Savage Wild Souls?

In an excellent continuation of the chain of events that were set in motion in Savage Wild Hearts, this fast-paced read had me on the edge of my seat and fully exclaiming aloud throughout the story. From the first page, the action was riveting, and the high stakes only continued to climb to an intense conclusion that left me staring at the page in shock.

The facets of the world-building that make up this rich universe only continued to grow in depth throughout the book. I particularly enjoyed the way that the mythology of the Wilds tied in. The characters were also extremely compelling. Val and Rune became one of my favorite fictional duos last year, and the push and pull of their dynamic was excellent in this next installment of the series. The banter between them is absolutely fantastic, and I loved reading as they developed both independently and in terms of how they interact with one another.

In short, if you like high stakes, savage banter, power struggles, unique worldbuilding, layered storytelling, and a wide cast of incredible characters, do the thing, take the plunge, READ THE BOOKS.

I read an advanced reader copy of this novel prior to sharing this review, but all thoughts shared are true and honest perceptions that I had of this story. I have recommended Savage Wild Hearts to so many people over the past several months, and I anticipate continuing to do so with the arrival of its sequel.

Savage Wild Souls - Sean Fletcher

As with book 1 in this series, I am in love. The story was perfectly paced and kept my interest throughout.
Val is held prisoner Below, forced to use her powers to make Soteras soldiers stronger. She needs to escape so she and Rune can fight together against Sotera.
There were so many parts in this book that I feel like some authors might have dragged it out to maybe 3 books instead of one (you won’t understand until you’ve read the book) but I loved that Sean made it all fit into one book, it all flowed so well together. As with book 1, let me give you some of my favourite quotes!

“𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘩. 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵.” -𝘝𝘢𝘭

“𝘞𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘦.” -𝘝𝘢𝘭

This book was really good! I hadn't had the chance to read the first book in the series, but I binge read this one in a day and a half, because I couldn't put it down!

The pacing was intense, as I couldn't wait to see what happened next! I loved the characters, and loved even more so that this book was a clean romance, that still had plenty of chemistry!

The world building is entrancing, I've heard that this series has similar world building to ACOTAR, crossed with The Cruel Prince and Lore .. and all I can say is that that this series is something really special and deserves it's own recognition, and has earned it's place among the fantasy books we consider being the golden standard!

I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves clean urban fantasy with romance!

I would rate this book:

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thank you Sean Fletcher & Book Sirens for the opportunity to read this book.. This book was provided as an Arc but all opinions are my own!

Empress Sotera has plans to destroy both the Wilds and Seattle, which is Val's previous home, what's more she is being held prisoner by the said Empress so is unable to warn Rune. However, she finally manages to escape and join Rune once again, only she is changed. She herself does not know what she is now, and though his fascination grows for her, she does not know how she feels about him. She will still try to help him unite the wilds, take the throne, and keep it, but in order to do so she has to navigate through many political alliances, but she is adamant she'd do anything in her power to keep him alive. Will she be able to save the wilds or will she bring destruction on all of them? This is a dark epic fantasy adventure with an enemies to lovers romance which drives the reader crazy as its so slow in coming. I am very excited to read book 3 and hope to have this in hand soon.

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Such a fantastic storyline. I love how the author still has the hearts of Val and Rune struggling to connect. Which I supposed is a good thing when you are up against the impossible. Trying to escape from The Below, save the human race and the Wilds is a fast paced, wild ride for Val. Rune has his own set of problems being the new King and keeping his crown. Betrayals lead to conflicts and deadly plans are revealed. Prepare for battle! The scenes are beautifully scripted and let’s the reader really dive into either cheering or yelling to the book to stop. The plot is definitely not boring at all, and the unexpected twists and turns will keep your eyes glued to the pages. Love the interaction between the MCs. You don’t really know who you want to win! The ending does lead you yearning for the next book!

Book two only managed to captivate me even further.
Val has been captured by the Emperess Below. She is mistreated and forced to use her powers in wicked ways, all the while she plot to escape.
With the help of two servants of Those Below, she manage to escape and is quickly reunited with Rune.
Once again they struggle to accept their differences and even more how they truly mirror each other.
Threats are all around them. Telling friend from foe becomes harder and harder. Who can Val trust? Can she even trust her self? Will they ever manage to overpowering Those Below?I was truly spellbound and captivated by this book. An absolute must-read for fantasy fans.
I’m hungrily awaiting the conclusion to The Savage Wild trilogy. The personal development in Val is captivating and Rune continues to reveal depths of his soul, that are surprisingly tender.

Sean Fletcher’s “Savage Wild Souls” continues his young adult fantasy series, The Savage Wilds, and I personally thought it was an excellent sequel!

This book had a very complicated plot line, but it was also a very interesting one. I was especially intrigued by the politics that were happening between all the characters.

This book is told from the POV of Val, one of the main characters in this story. Val has a very unique kind of magic, and her sharp wit and willingness to do what needs to be done is what’s been keeping her alive.

Fletcher kept me on my toes with his fast paced, action-packed writing style, as well as all the plot twists I was never able to predict. This world he’s created has definitely caught my interest, and I would definitely recommend this book to fans of young adult fantasy.

The action and stakes continue to rise in the second book of the Savage Wilds series, Savage Wild Souls. Val and Rune 's uneasy partnership for ruling the Wilds and defeating Those Below reaches new dangers and risks. As the King of the Undersea and the human forces of Seattle rally against them, Val finds herself torn; between her growing but fraught attraction to Rune and the need to protect the human world from obliteration. While Rune seeks to put all the Wilds and the realm of Below under his control, Val is forced to choose a path that could cost her everything. Sean Fletcher has managed to build on the tension and action of Book One, Savage Wild Hearts, and render a convincing a exciting tale for all readers of dystopian fantasy. Definitely will be checking out the next book.

What outcome would this have for Val?

As pandemonium ensues, Rune and Val change from frenemies into allies against their multiple opponents, as multiple clashes, betrayals and danger swirl in a maelstrom of death.

Well not sure what I thought about this one but the story certainly let me guessing. Val grew a lot in understanding herself. Wish I could say the same for Rune but he seemed to loose direct focus and scattered his view. He holds a grudge so not sure what the next book will show but hopefully he grows up and realizes he can’t hold all the power and hold all the planning in his head and get angry and hurt when people question him. Val and Rune need each other and I truely hope they realize that in the next book. This book is a segue into the next book. This book leaves a lot of questions and open ended thoughts and feelings.

Savage Wild Souls is the second book in The Savage Wilds Series by Sean Fletcher.
Allies become enemies and alliances are constantly shifting. There is danger around every corner and Val's job is to keep Rune safe. The humans, Sotera the Empress from Below and the other factions all want Rune dead. Val and Rune need to trust each other so they can survive what is coming but they are having a hard time trusting which just causes more problems. When Val has to make a hard decision to keep Rune safe will he be able to trust and understand she is doing the right thing? Wow, what a story, I loved it. There is danger, secrets, enemies, magic, deceit, betrayal and so much more.

I absolutely loved book one and so was super excited to read book two and it did not disappoint as once again we head into the wilds. We jump back onto this incredible fast paced rollercoaster to see Val escape her prison and help Rune try to unite the wilds. It’s exciting, it’s enthralling and once started you find yourself lost into this incredible fantasy world preparing for battle alongside these amazing characters. I love the banter, I love their interactions and I even love the twists and turns that have me gawking and on the edge of my seat. Secrets, betrayals, incredible world building and a wonderful slllooowww burn romance, I love this series.

Hmmmm….How do you even begin? This book did not disappoint and in it we get to explore Rune and Val's relationship. The events set into motion in book one are carried out in book 2 as the entire series develops and the reader is drawn deeper into this world and magic system. This author is one that will quickly rise in the Fantasy writing genre.

I have the ARC of book 3 and devoured it as soon as I put this one down - it's seriously a binge worthy series - if you have the option just purchase the entire series and invest in this world.

For some reason I had it in my head that this was a duology and realized three-quarters of the way through that there was no way it was going to wrap up in two books. I'm slightly upset because I was not expecting to still have so many questions, but also very happy because I am not ready for this story to be over.

Stakes have been raised even higher now than in book 1, with both the Below and the Undersea playing large parts in the world, and something even greater is coming. I can't wait to see how Val and Rune get past the events of this book to overcome the next hurdle.

This is book 2 of the Savage Wilds series! You have to read Savage Wild Hearts! You will not know what’s going on if you don’t!

I never had been into fantasy until this series! I loved SWH and am so happy to have been able to read Savage Wild Souls! This book did not disappoint! You pick up with the angst and drama of the first! The slow burn between Val and Rune keeps you on your toes!

They really have their work cut out for them to figure out how to unite the Wilds while figuring out who she really is as well!! Can’t wait for book 3!!!

I don't even know how to describe the talent that went into the continuing story of power possessed and lost. Of love that was wanted, but just out of reach. Battles fought, lives taken. All to gain power. But is it worth it? Or is it just a fake sense of security? To gain and control. But at what cost. This story will pull you in, control your need to see what happens next. It has the power to to keep you glued to the last page. You will love it at times, Hate it at others. Laugh on one page, yet cry, scream, or yell on the next. But you won't put it down till the last page is turned.

Having read the first book in this trilogy, I was itching to dive back into the world that Fletcher has created. He has a way of pulling you in and sitting you down among the action, making you desperate to know what happens next and hooked until the last page, and even then you’re still yearning for more. I adored Val, the twists and turns of this story and that ending has me glad that I’ll soon be able to read the final book in the series. The way the story goes leaves you guessing and wishing you could predict what is going to happen next to all the characters. Very much recommended!

Wow! I thought the first book was enthralling but this took it to a whole new level! The plot continued to develop so beautifully that I had to keep reading! I loved watching the chemistry between Val and Rune unfold. The pain and emotions of this book were spot on and made me feel like I was right there with them going through everything. The plot twists were beautifully done and the ending had me screaming for more! I absolutely cannot wait for the third book!!

This series is riveting! The second installment of the Savage Wilds series builds on what we learned about Val in the first book and thank goodness we get to see Rune again! Friendships are formed, family is further developed, and the tenuous nature of these relationships is tested.

It’s exciting, heart-wrenching, and I’m so glad the third will be out soon! Thanks to BookSirens for the free digital copy to review.

Still a great series and a fitting sequel to the awesome book one. Many more impossible twists and turns than in the first book. It’s fast paced and chock fuller surprises. Though I’m torn between wanting to shake Rune and Val and thinking it a clever idea to make them more or less secretly pine for each other.

Definitely looking forward to book three.

Savage Wild Souls by Sean Fletcher, the second book in the series, is an exhilarating read and might even be my favorite of the year. The reunion of Rune and Val is incredibly poignant, and their efforts to protect the wilds from looming threats are nothing short of inspiring. Their chemistry is off the charts, bringing a fresh intensity to their partnership. Fletcher’s writing style and pacing are impeccable, delivering a richly detailed story without veering into chaos. The seamless flow and well-balanced details make this installment a standout in the series.
