USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa Hughey started writing romance in the fourth grade. That particular story involved a prince and an engagement. Now, she writes about strong heroines who are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves and the heroes who love both their strength and their vulnerability. She pens romances of all types—suspense, paranormal, and contemporary—but at their heart, all her books celebrate the power of love.

She lives in Cape Ann Massachusetts with her fabulously supportive husband, two out of three awesome mostly-grown kids, and one somewhat grumpy cat.

Yoga, hiking, and traveling are her favorite ways to pass the time when she isn’t plotting new ways to get her characters to fall in love.

A Con Job!
The title of this book describes exactly how I feel after reading the book. What I thought was a multicultural romance turned into an unbelievable story that pretty ending with what I consider a cliff-hanger.

This was a love story between Ben, a wealthy white male and Layla, whose father was Arabic and mother was Jewish. Their meeting and gradually getting together and falling in love was the only thing believable in the entire book. Kayla was a student and private investigator who worked for her father. Her mother had died some years previously and she had been raised by her very strict father.

He was involved in a case that ended up being a case from hell. Her father stayed in the case in spite of her begging him to drop it. Supposed, he was set up to "spy" on an Iranian scientist, engineer by the Iranians. He ended being arrested by the police with the FBI or CIA getting involved. He was branded as a spy. They seized all his accounts as well as his house and she had to be out in days. She was afraid she was being followed.

Ben wanted to help her but she was afraid he would get hurt. Enter ALIAS, a private witness protection security who wanted to help her with a new identity. Who knows why? Finally, she was relocated with a new identity but several weeks later her handler, Jake, allowed her distraught boy friend to go her. This after telling her repeatedly it was dangerous for him or anyone else to known her new identity.

Who was ALIAS and why would they help her? Off they could kill her father while in prison, why was she allowed she walk around freely, after being threatened without being hurt. What was the information she had that the Iranian government wanted so badly that they would kill for it? And on and on...

It just made no sense that a private investigator who normally worked for insurance company would suddenly be involved in some secret international espionage. Plus, she had the skills to evade them and even kept the information that they do desperately wanted.

Yes, it ended with her and Ben together but then what. Jake met a woman and had a one night stand but suddenly she ended up working for ALIAS also. Yes, you had to buy another book if you wanted to know more. No thank you!

well

It was an interesting quick read, but there seems to have been something missing and I’m not even talking about the ending either.
