Spinning out of the pages of the runaway hit Batman/ World’s Finest comes a modern retelling of the early adventures of the original Teen Titans! Led by Robin, the Boy Wonder, a new super-team has burst onto the scene-meet the Teen Titans, DC’s grooviest group filled with super-teens with super-problems. When they’re not fighting alongside their Justice League mentors, they’re managing their image and cultivating the rabid fan base that helps them save the world…as, all the while, a danger from the shadows intends to tear these friends apart before they ever reach the big time. Before they were the Titans of the DCU, they were the Teen Titans, and you won’t want to miss this fresh take on their origins from the legendary talents of Mark Waid and Emanuela Lupacchino!
Mark Waid (born March 21, 1962 in Hueytown, Alabama) is an American comic book writer. He is best known for his eight-year run as writer of the DC Comics' title The Flash, as well as his scripting of the limited series Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, and his work on Marvel Comics' Captain America.
It’s an origin story set in modern times… which is confusing because the current Titans run is set in modern times and they’re older? So maybe a parallel earth? Idk. Overall the story was okay. Nothing bad, nothing great.
Took me a second to warm up to this, but it did eventually win me over. Mostly with Speedy and Robin's bickering.
Was interesting to see them all with their mentors and compare that to them working as a team.
Lots of places for this series to go so I'm curious to follow it.
Artwork is an interesting choice - it's got a retro look to it but the story features drone cameras so it's a modern story. Bit weird. Not sure about it.
This was a good one. I think. I like Waid, though, so I'm biased. The art was nice, and I'm picky about that. It can ruin entire runs for me (see the current Superman title I just hate looking at it so much) But the characters got brought into the modern world and still feel like themselves. I really like it. I appreciate it. I like the cell phones, and drones, and the way the characters interact with their mentors and each other. While going through some of the old arguments we've seen before in other runs it still doesn't feel boring. I am all for this so far and it has elements that remind me of the Johns run that I grew up with and enjoyed.
I had faith in Waid to produce some GOOD Teen Titan work again and sure enough he did. Basically a retelling of the early days of Teen Titans but modernized with cell phones, live streaming, and more. Makes the situations funnier, especially with Roy, and all the characters have their voice that makes them interesting. Art is excellent and the end leaves me wanting more. This is a great first issue.
I really liked this. I love Waid’s style. I’m interested to see how this is going to be different than Tom Taylor’s Titans. I mean, even if it’s only a “just outside of continuity” adventure series kind of like Waid’s other World’s Finest title, then count me 100% in.
Taking off a star for the social media hashtag stuff. That was incredibly cringe and a decade or more out of date. I guess this world is set in the past or ab alternate Earth. Love the art however.
This book makes no sense, its the original team, but in the today times?!!! The story has been done soo many times, heck its the same plaot the new 52 Titans had with all the social media stuff. I like Mark Waid as a story teller, hes one of my favorites, but this was so trite and cliche I thought i was reading the first issue of a team up from an indy comic. The art was good, Ill give it that. But this books story is just confusing. Does it replace the original origin story, if so, when is it happening (now or in the past). This book should appeal to fans of the characters and team, but it so blatantly changes the characters it pushes us away. And its so classic in its style and childish in its telling that new reader won't give it a second glance. A waste of my time and a waste of my money. I'll ask again, who is this for? Not me, not buying a second issue. I suggest anyone reading this dont buy any issues, save your money and get a good comic boom. Their too expensive to biy bad ones anyomore.
This book was a delight. As with the rest of Waid's World's Finest volumes, he is able to portray both new and exciting stories with new and old characters while still maintaining the classic DC feel. I believe any character he writes in this style would be received very well. The art is fun and captivating and works for these characters. This is what Taylor's Titans run should have been like, being able to show the relationships and friendships between the characters and overall, having fun with the team, writer, and readers. I recommend this book and it deserves a volume 2. Grade: B+
Oh oh it was so sweet and wholesome and I loved every minute of it. The characters were sweet and honest and natural and I loved the way their arcs were hinted at throughout before being all wrapped up in the climax. So lovely. So wonderful. Help it’s so cute I need a second volume asap 10/10 they’re the cutest friend group I literally can’t stop thinking about them ahhhhh I love found family stories and moments where they all realize how much they love and trust each other and when they call each other out on the slack I love it so much!!! Ahhhh
I liked this one, even though I'm a little confused about the time period. The use of technology and social media implies that this takes place during the modern era even though this is a story about the original Teen Titans, who were created in the 1960s...Even though the story is just fine (not amazing) and the era is dubious, I really like the art and accessibility of the characters. This is probably a good introduction to the Teen Titans for new and younger readers!
Great start to this series i’ve been super excited about! Lots of little nods to the original Teen Titans that make my heart happy. Really interested to see what they’re setting up with this villain. Also love the clash between Roy & Dick, and that panel sequence of the Titans talking to their mentors was great!
Big giant dislike. Felt so shallow and the whole thing read like someone trying to bend over backwards. The only thing I liked about this whole series was the covers and maybe the art. I'd give it 1.5 stars. Really really was hoping this would be good given that Batman/Superman World's Finest has been great so far. But this was a huge disappointment.
I am not a reader with nostalgia for the original Teen Titans roster, but dang if this book didn't convert me. The writing was funny and sold the compelling team dynamics, the art was amazing, and the variant covers just showed what a cultural impact these characters have had on a range of incredible artists.
It’s a good story with good art but the instagram influencer doesn’t fit. They already exist in the modern world as adults but they are kids at rather same time? A bit less drone work would have been better. Otherwise a good clash of personalities.
This was great. This is what the blueprint for the teen titans in James gunn’s DCU should be imo. I like the angle they’re trying to go with Speedy wanting to be an influencer. All kids these days want to. I think the lineup is pretty good too.

Spinning out of the second arc of World’s Finest Mark Waid gives us a fun story of the silver age Teen Titans. This story is all about being a teenager and managing friendships and relationships. There isn’t much to say about the plot expect for someone decides to make their own evil Titans to counter them but that’s okay. Waid understands that it’s the character interactions and interpersonal relationships that we remember about stories and those are all written so well here. Emmanuela Lupacchino delivers some really fun art that captures teenage energy perfectly. I hope there are more World’s Finest spinoffs in this vein.
pretty art, but 2000-and-late writing. i’m sorry but waid needs to stick to a full-on vintage vibe bc i’m not sure he can pull off the present-day. best part was the contrasting conversations between protégés-and-mentors.
What a marvellous first comic! It's already making us dislike Speedy and feel for Kid Flash. The highlight has to be Batman for his attitude and persistent scowl.
