I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

Disclaimer: I gave up at 60 pages remaining. Here's why.

I didn't connect to the character and wasn't able to see them develop, so they felt a bit flat. They also did not act their age...it seemed like they were written to be adults, but they were teenagers.

The plot was decent but other problems interfered with my ability to enjoy it. It felt a little piecemeal and random, but I was reading it over a long time. There were also a number of plot inconsistencies.

It could benefit from an editing pass, as I saw confusing sentences, grammar errors, multiple typos on almost every page, misused words and phrases. Lofty sentences that sounded over-the-top and melodramatic.

Too many logic problems, e.g. blood that is warm when the body it came from is cold, wondering if a crying person is conscious, tasks not appropriate for the age (counseling "patients" as an 18 year old with no training), phrases and events that do not make sense in light of science and anatomy, etc.

I couldn't believe the romance, it felt a bit forced to me.

The world was interesting but same problem as plot...too many problems as a whole to hold my interest. Furthermore, there was no real world development. Random facts were thrown at us with no rhyme or reason all over the book.

Overall: author was trying to make it interesting and intricate, but the problems made it unenjoyable. I really wanted to like it, but I didn't. And for those of you who did, I'm happy for you. But this is not for me.

In a world of shapeshifters and other mystical creatures, an alpha puma shifter is sucked into a mystery of the murders of shifters in her city, with the aid of a local cop she raises to find the killer before it's too late. The story starts right off the bat with a pretty disturbing set of scenes that set a dark tone to the entire novel. Warning: There are graphic torture scenes in this novel, not for the feint of heart.
I have a few problems with this novel. Lets start with the plot and the storytelling. They were just too crammed and out of order. There seemed to be two different plots that did not coincide very well. The story would jump from one plot to another, and not in a fluid fashion. Next to that, I had a huge problem with the weak romance. Throughout the story only a minimal of romantic sparks were set off. It was a major disappointment.
Switching to looking at the positives, I appreciated the strong female protagonist. She took care of herself and kicked butt. I liked the action sequences in the very end as well. I give Skin Deep TWO STARS OUT OF FIVE!

SKIN DEEP was the first book by Ayer that I have had the privilege to read. I really enjoyed the detail and the buildup on the story. Ayer gives us a world of Shape Shifters and other unworldly things that go bump in the night. I savored the whole mystery of the story and loved being able to play detective right along with the characters.

In the beginning I felt there was a bit too much going on and not enough answers. The author would introduce one obstacle after another and I kind of felt it was too much chaos. But in the end the author actually brings it all together nicely. Soon you are having these ‘ah ha’ moments and things start clicking into place. Things you once forgot about come barreling to the forefront of your mind and it ends up making total sense.

What I wasn’t crazy about was I felt it jumped around a bit for my taste in the POV department. I wasn't crazy about the changing of POV's without being informed. I like to be notified when there is a POV change and who’s POV it is. Take for instance one scene we are inside of Logan’s head and after a break with ***** we are back in Kailin’s head. I thought it was still Logan’s POV and once I realized it was Kailin’s I had to start the scene all over again. And that happened a few times…so the book ended up taking me longer to read.

What I did like was the growing feelings between Kailen and Logan. I thought they were brilliant apart...but even better together in the story. The romance was very subtle and it definitely worked for this book. Yes, action has a more prominent role but the author really knows how to write those scenes.

So all together I really enjoyed the story and will recommend this book to guys and gals alike who love a good action/mystery read.

T.G. Ayer has once again sucked me in to one of her magical worlds. A world where panther shape-shifter Kailin Odel, does her best to protect her community from soul sucking Wraiths; a world where shape-shifters, mage’s, and all manner of old and new paranormal beings live amongst us in relative secrecy. But someone is killing shifters, decimating the bodies and drawing attention to a world the Para’s want to keep secret; need to keep hidden from the regular population.

Tee has a talent for writing intelligent, kickass heroines and Kailin is all that and more.
Kailin Odel is a fighter; a strong and independent young woman who refuses to sit back and let people be taken advantage of. She has a deep and unyielding belief in the good of people, and does all that she can to advice and protect those she cares about.

Logan Westin is a cop; one of the youngest cops paroling the streets and a member of Omega - the secret division within the police force that investigates all things... strange.

Drawn together after the death of a shifter, Kailin and Logan try to navigate their way through a frustrating and emotionally draining case, fraught with danger and an ever increasing attraction they both try to deny.
Great world building, great characters to both love and hate (love a good badass too!), and a fantastic story full of all things paranormal, magick, and more.

Skin Deep hooked from the very first page, and promises to deliver an intense and exciting trilogy.
I love T.G. Ayer’s voice and feel the emotion of her characters on every page. I really can’t wait to see what comes next for Kailin and Logan, and their merry band of sidekicks!

A new and exciting paranormal world of adventure, magick and mayhem, Skin Deep has gone straight to my keeper shelf!

So i just got reading Skin Deep by T.G. Ayer, its the first book I've read by this author. With this being the first book I've ever read from Ayer, and this being the first book in the series, I think it's time to start my review.

Kailin a alpha panther shifter and wraith Hunter, lives an almost solitary life; except for the few friends she has and her job and the counseling center. One night after a wraith fight, Kailin comes across a horrific sight. Someone being thrown out of a car at high speed, she goes to check on the person. Only to find out it's a skinned alive panther or walkers as they call themselves. From here Kailin is on a mission to find out who is killing walkers as well as other shifters. While going through this she meets Logan the youngest member of Omega, a sector in the police department for abnormal things. They end up working together on this, while also forming a connection personally.

The description is pretty vague, and there is a reason for this. So much goes on in this book, giving away too much details will hinder the quality of the book. But I did enjoy this book, though it took me a while to read this, due to video games. Dang that Call of Duty, hangs my head. But no seriously it's good.the only drawback I have is that Kailin only shifts fully once in this book. Otherwise no complaints here.

Intriguing but confusing

This was a hard book to fall in to, though the plot tried incredibly hard to grab me. The writing style was more reminiscent of an old school mystery novel than the fledgling UF it’s trying to be, wrapping around scenes with a curt tone, though there were quite a few creative and lyrical twists in the phrasing.

Pros:
- Inventive use of descriptive language, turning phrases and painting pictures in a single sentence.
- very unique world
- complex plot

Cons:
- Very confusing, half the time what is going on makes little sense.
- Did I miss a novella or a book somewhere?
- Teenage Characters when 20 something’s would make more sense, and still fulfill the roles well.
- Too much to the narrative, felt scattered.
- Choppy in places.
- Romance was questionable because, like other things... it made no sense.

Baffled by the other reviews

Overall I liked the concept, but this book has issues. Poor character development and the story is all over the place. Really bad plotting going on here.

Characters were impossible to picture in my head and very shallow. I literally forced myself to slow down my reading, thinking that I was missing something, but no, it just wasn't there to be found.

The good reviews seem canned. I doubt they are legit.

Skin Deep is a book with a strong and stubborn female main character who lets herself be carried more by the heart than by the brain, so she makes certain decisions in an impulsive and unintelligent way. The only thing that saves her from failing in her mission to protect all the shifters in the city are two factors: luck and Agent Logan Westin. In spite of everything, Kailin Odel is a character that is loved (or pitied) and ends up being the Alpha that saves the day.
Ms. Ayer once again gives us a first book in a series that promises to be a YA success, with characters with new paranormal powers such as a Metal-Singer and the Death-Talkers as well as a variety of Skin Walkers that will delight readers who like paranormal romance with action that does not stop throughout the book... And a protagonist that will make you wonder if it will be possible for her to be more foolish than she already is!

The plot of this story definitely held my interest. The characters were also great to read about. The downfall for me was that there was too much introduced at the beginning and the changing POV without any notification. It would sometimes get me confused. Overall I'd say this is a 3.5.

Kailin Odel is a shape-shifter, a skin walker, a panther. After difficulties at home she leaves her clan, her family, and moves in with her grandmother. She discovers she has a talent as a Wraith hunter, and pursues that, as well as holding down a job in a rehab centre, which she also loves.

On returning from a hunt Kailin finds her inner panther trying to get out, so she rushes towards the rehab centre, where she has the perfect hiding place.
However as she approaches the centre she witnesses a body being thrown from a car. She soon discovers this is not just an ordinary body, it is the skinned body of another shape shifter.

Logan Westin, and his partner Jess, are part of Omega, a special team within the police force who police the non-human community. They are called in to investigate the murder, and come into contact with Kailin at the same time.

As Kailin becomes more embroiled in the chaos, Logan is drawn to her, and they combine their skills to try and solve the mystery of who exactly is targeting the skin-walkers, and why. Kailin and Logan begin to develop feelings towards each other, but can they act on it, or will the investigation get in the way?

Kailin approaches various skin-walker clans, desperate to try and find out the identity of the body. These clans include her own, and her brother Iain. There she discovers he hasn't heard from her sister, Greer, but this doesn't bother them, for now.

What follows is a story of confusion, lies, betrayal and more missing skin-walkers. Can Kailin find out who is responsible before anyone else is hurt? Can she and Logan discover why this is happening? Can Kailin escape unscathed or will she find herself drawn even further in?

Kailin eventually has to call on all of her skills, and bravery, to achieve what she needs to. Along the way she uncovers deeply hidden family secrets, but also a few truths. She also manages to repair a few broken links where family are concerned.

Kailin goes through a lot within the pages of this story, but due to her ability to heal faster than a human, she eventually gets through each injury. But the author puts her through so much during the course of the story. If she were a less strong person I doubt Kailin would be the person she is by the end. She is such a strong female character and I love her for that strength.

This story drew me in, it is totally different to anything I have read before which made its appeal even greater. I have not read any of this authors other books, but I'm looking forward to reading more from this series, and I can't wait to see where the author takes Kailin, Logan and everyone else.

This is a series I am definitely going to follow. Bring it on!

A person’s current personality of love, hatred, jealousy, rage or a murderous intent and so on is formed upon genetic elements, education, the environment and a family a person grows in. – Kim Ki-duk

No man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks. – Mary Wollstonecraft

Kailin has quite the life. Only twenty, she is one busy girl. School. In training at the Sandhurst Centre for Rehabilitation as a counselor for drug addicted teens trying to better their lives after sometimes horrific beginnings. So many children – so much pain.

And then, there is the fact that Kailin is a Hunter – a Wraith hunter – searching out and destroying evil creatures who inhabit the bodies of humans, killing them and wearing their bodies while they spread their evil. Of course, being a Panther shifter helps – but when she witnesses a body dump, everything changes for the worse. For the Wraiths are getting stronger – the veil between worlds thinner – and things are about to take a hard turn into brutality and treachery such as Kailin never expected. And which will change her life forever.

Kailin is an interesting character. She is strong, intense, and one of the hardest working young women you can imagine. But then, she is also fragile. When she lost her mother as a child, she also lost her father to the isolation of grief and introversion. Alone and in pain she moves to Chicago where her grandmother, Ivy, a flighty woman who is nearly never home – and then only for a day or so when she is – provides her with a home, as long as she works and goes to school. A good arrangement all around when Kailin is desperate to hide her Wraith hunting. Kailin doesn’t always make the best decisions – she is young, after all – but she feels very real within the bounds of her character, and you can’t help but like her, and hurt right along with her when things are bad, and feel joy with her when things do go right.

Overall? I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good paranormal story. There is a minor romantic thread which I see developing over the series and is well done and interesting. I intend to continue the series over time.

I'm not the type of reader who rereads. Sure I shelve stuff with the intention to come back and read it again, but I never get there.

Then I hit that awful thing called a slump. And had my best friend choose a book from my Kindle and here we are.

There's so many things I found the second go round that I missed the first. 21 year old me really enjoyed this book if my previous rating was anything to go by, 26 year old me, is fence sitting.

The premise was really good, a different view on the world of paranormal, the introduction of species that aren't often written about (metal fae and death talkers) but the main character wasn't it for me.

Kailin Odell came off strong, confident and older than she really was, but when it came to the crunch she faltered.

Logan Westin was a character I looked forward to reading more about (from his point of view) though I didn't like how the writing changed when it came to his far and few between chapters, I would have loved to see some more from him.,

The relationship was instant, and I guess given that their probably mates, it makes a lot of sense but that isn't something that's explored in this book.

There was a lot happening in this book, just when I thought it was all about rhe "demons" and Kailin's hunting you were picked up and dropped into a completely different story line that completely over shadowed the begging of the book and then in the last 20% that story line popped up again.

All in all, it wasn't bad and if you looking for something new, it might be something you enjoy.

Skin Deep (DarkWorld #1) by T.G. Ayer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a new series written by T.G. Ayer and it is a great beginning of a series that I definitely going to keep my eye on. The plot and characters are well written, the story flows so well you don’t want to put Skin Deep down till you reach the end.

We first meet Kailin who is a panther shape shifter, she leaves her clan and lives among the human. Kailin spends her days working in the addiction field helping other and at night she is a Wraith hunter.

One evening Kailin comes across a body of a shifter who had been skinned and left for dead. Here is where she meets Logan who is part Omega and works for a special team on the police force who work investigating non-human cases. As this investigation is under way Logan and Kailin end up running into each other a lot. The attraction is there and feelings begin to develop between the two.

Skin Deep is full of suspense, mystery and a touch of romance and had me hooked right from the beginning. It is well written and draws you in, I have rated it a 4 star rating and cannot wait to read the next book in this series. T.G. Ayer has outdone herself once again in this Dark World series. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoy paranormal genre.

Skin Deep (Dark World #1) by T.G. Ayer Alpha/Panther Shape-shifter Kailin Odel moved away from her clan to live with her Grandmother in Chicago. While on a mission killing Wraith, she comes across a murdered shape-shifter and becomes involved in the case.

One of the things that drew my attention to this book that it takes place in Chicago. Being a Chicagoan, I appreciate books that take place here. That being said, the book could really take place anywhere, but that is okay.

Kailin is a determined heroine. She is intelligent and does what she feels is right. She discovers many things about herself during this story that she handles well.

Detective Logan Westin’s character was well done. He is an agent for Omega, the police unit that investigates the paranormal. He is also a fire-mage. I enjoyed the chemistry between him and Kailin.

The plot was well done and mysterious. I liked how a lot of the things that happened seemed to come full circle. There were multiple interesting twists that kept the story enigmatic. The ending was exciting and left me wanting to read the next book in the series to see what happens.

This book is more like a supernatural who done it mystery/suspense read. This book is very captivating from the start to the end. The author has done a marvelous job on her superior writing. The different POV's lent to making the book even better.

Skin Deep is the story of Kailin Odel, a panther shifter of alpha blood who spends her days counseling teens with substance abuse problems and her nights as a wraith hunter. While returning from a hunt one night she witnesses a body being dumped in the garden behind her place of employment. The body turns out to be the skinned body of a cougar walker, and finding this body is only the beginning. Kai, as her friends call her, is led down a dark path toward a surprising realization that had me gasping in surprise as she investigates the death of the walker, the kidnapping of one she knows, and the murder of her best friend. From the moment I started reading this book I was enthralled. Though some parts were less action filled than others, the entire book was enjoyable. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Enjoyable

This story had a little mystery, a budding love connection, a slow revealing background, good fight scenes and a quest. All these things lead to a good book. I was a little confused at times regarding the main characters age but other than that I think this is a series worth looking into. It does continue on to another book but I felt that it had enough closure in this one that it didn't end with an annoying cliffhanger.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. The books I have read by this s author previously I have loved! The more I read her work the more I completely fall under the spell of her books. I absolutely adored this book and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!!!

This storyline is amazing!!! So addictive to read and it definitely leaves you wanting more! I loved how the authors imagination shines through in this story, that along with the vivid imagery you are given through the descriptions throughout this story makes this story stand out in your mind, so you will never forget how brilliant it is with all the surprises and twists these pages hold!!!

One thing that I have to mention is that I suggest that readers read Pyros before this book as it really gives you an insight into Logan’s character, into his past you see why he is the way he is, its not essential but I would definitely recommend it! Logan is a really enjoyable character to read about, loved how strong and commanding he is and how protective he is of those that he cares about although he has an inner turmoil regarding his emotions and letting people in. Kailin is an amazing woman to read about, she has a strength about her that has a feeling of pureness. She has been through so much in her life and everyday she battles the pain and anguish of her past but she still stays strong and is determined to live her life the way she wants to and not how she is told to, she is full of determination and inner fire that makes she who she is. She is extremely protective of others and she doesn't trust easily but when she opens her heart and let her walls down she will do matching for you. I also have to mention Storm!!! I am dying to know my research about him, from the moment he enters the book there is something very enigmatic and mysterious about him and you just want to unleavened those mysteries!!!

I can't recommend this book enough, this author's talent is utterly amazing and once you read one book that's you hooked for life. I have read a few of her books now and I need to read them all!!!!

In a world where humans are unaware of the supernatural beings that exist side by side with them, Kai Odel is a skinwalker and a Wraith-hunter. She is preternaturally good at it, and she takes her task seriously. However, when Kai comes across the body of a murdered shifter, and someone close to her is killed, she is dragged into a far more dangerous underworld, where drugs are dealt and shifters have gone renegade. Arriving on the scene is human investigator, Logan Westin. There is a strong, mutual attraction between them, but Kai knows humans are off-limits, and she must also keep her nature a secret from him. However, she needs Logan more than she knows, if she's to save herself, her friends, and her family.

To begin with, I must say I was taken aback to learn that Kai is only 18 and Logan 19. Um, I don't know why the author thought to make her main characters so young. Kai, maybe, but for Logan to be an investigator with the police at that age? No.

The story started out well, and I was invested in it. The action was fast-paced and engrossing, but the longer the story went on, the more disenchanted I became with Kai. Yes, she's young, but some of her decisions were so blatantly stupid and immature that I couldn't even. I think that's when I put it down and then didn't pick it up again, because it's almost like I knew it would tax my brain to finish it. Guh.

Things were sort of dumped on the reader with little explanation, and later action scenes just seemed to go too fast, you know? Like zip zip zip, it's over! Not much was resolved, and the reader is left hanging, with more questions than answers. Yes, I know it's the first book in a series, but there should still be some resolution.

I received a copy of this book at no cost from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Another in a string of strong stories by TG Ayer.

I have to admit, Skin Deep got off to a bit of a slower start than most of her other books that I've read, but once the story really got underway - which didn't take too long - it was a very enjoyable ride.

Skin Deep is part of Ayer's Dark World universe, an alternate take on our world in which a number of various paranormal creatures live mostly hidden alongside humans. These include Skinwalkers (aka "shifters,") mages, Immortals, Death-talkers, Wraiths and more. It is the first book in her Skinwalker series, one of two (so far) set in this universe. The other is the Soultracker series, which I am also reading. I'm really hooked on her stuff!

At its core, Skin Deep is a police procedural / mystery - but it's a well-written one. The case involves the discovery of a gruesome murder by our heroine, the Panther shifter Kai (short for Kailin) Odel. While she usually divides her time between hunting Wraiths and counseling troubled teens who come to the clinic where she works, she gets pulled into the investigation when she realizes the victim is also a shifter and then finds that other shifters have disappeared as well.

Kai is a great lead character. She's as tough as one would expect given her dual occupations, but she has enough vulnerability to make her believable and endearing. Her romance with Logan Westin, an investigator assigned to the case, is sweet, if a bit too quick to start (something I've noticed in a few of Ayer's books, though when she decides to play with the romantic formula - as she did in her Valkyrie series - it's very effective and a great change of pace!) Logan is well-developed, and it's fun to watch Kai trying to figure out the effect he has on her before she discovers what he is.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. There's a nice collection of side characters - some of whom also appear in the Soultracker series, neatly tying the stories into the same world - and I look forward to following Kai and Logan's story in the rest of the series.

I liked the fact that this book was different from the usual shifter books. Not only because of the identity of the main protagonist (a panther shifter) and the wide range of other shifters we see in the book (including Lynx, fox, leopard and wolf), but because it's not about JUST the shifter identity. I won't go into details of what it IS about (you can get the basics above and I don't want to give any more spoilers away!), but the story is a fantastic read on its own, and the shifter and supernatural/fantasy/paranormal aspects are just a boost to that storyline. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes their fantasy books with a great story, and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out what happens to the characters next (especially after that tease of an ending!!)
Ps I was glad I'd read Pyros (Logan's backstory) before reading this book as it meant I understood him a bit more, but as it'd been a while between reading that book and this (and I've read a few books between!) so had forgotten about Logan at first encounter with him, I don't think it's essential to have read it. It'll just give you a bit more depth to his character.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Skin Deep: A SkinWalker Novel #1( DarkWorld: SkinWalker

I had a hard time getting started at the the beginning, there was so much being introduced all at one time that I couldn't follow what going on, but I decided to continue to read it because I always believe in giving authors a chance unless it's really horrible after a certain chapter and then I just put the book down.

But, I am so glad 😁 I continued with this book because T. G. Ayer really did a great job at being able to put all introductions from the beginning together and then as the book progresses it comes together wonderfully!!

I like the POV's but, it does tend to jump around a lot from Logan to Kailen and sometimes I got mixed up about who was talking and had to reread it again .

But, I really did enjoy 😊 this book and I am looking forward to the next especially to see what happens with the love story, with mom, dad, Lian, Greer, what happened to Lilly? Anjiello, grams and the Ray of the gang!!!

Definitely recommend!!!

Great book

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This storyline is amazing!!! So addictive to read and it definitely leaves you wanting more! I loved how the authors imagination shines through in this story, that along with the vivid imagery you are given through the descriptions throughout this story makes this story stand out in your mind, so you will never forget how brilliant it is with all the surprises and twists.
The only criticism I have is in the chapters it goes from one person to the next it takes a bit to realise who you are talking about. Each change of character could do with their name at the beginning of each change. Otherwise thoroughly loved it.
Logan is a strong and commanding character. He has a power of his own that is unlike anything I’ve read about before.
Kailin is extremely protective of others and she doesn't trust easily but when she meets Logan he gets under her skin and there are always sparks between them.
Can’t wait to read the next book.

It’s hard to learn the truth so did it help her to be strong

Kai was a wraith Hunter she worked at a rehab centre during the day and searched for the soul suckers by night then one night nearly home when police chasing a car, the car slowed and threw something out of the door and disappeared. She ran to see if she could help but it was too late for the shifter then the car came back and she ran dodging bullets as she went one thundered in to her shoulder, that was the start she called a friend who came straight away and helped get the bullet out. She was not only a hunter she was now being hunted too and not only by the wraith but by family and that hurt, Logan a special kind of police service was also on the hunt which is how he met Kai he became her protector almost. This story is full of twists turns spins and unknown species, a good story well written quite an adventure, I won’t tell any more of the story because it’s intense I recommend it as as good read I’m off now to read book 2

This was my introduction into this author's work. I tried to read another book by this author and then was informed I was better to start here and I'm glad I did because more things made sense! I went in expecting a typical shifter story but this was not the case at all!

I loved the main character Kailin who was such an interesting character. The side characters are good as well and I got so into the story I found myself flinching and gasping at certain parts of the story. There is so much going on in this story in such a short space of time. I felt sorry for the characters in a way because there was so much chaos going on, but excellent as a reader because all I wanted to do was keep reading. The world building in this book was very intelligent and the author sure knows how to write an action scene! My only thing would be that there is so much going on and sometimes different points of view that I found myself confused at times. Things all came together at the end quite cleverly and you had lots of 'lightbulb' moments and also it left me wanting to know more about these characters and what is next for them. I would definitely be recommending these books to my friends who read paranormals and want something a bit different.

Format: audiobook
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and with a Black panther among other shifters, wraiths and mages theres alot of interesting things happening., it’s fast paced, could get a little confusing, once or twice I went back over an odd bit as initially felt like I missed something but that was probably more to do with the narrator’s delivery than anything else. Nice twists in the plot. I Like the world this author has created. A strong female lead though a bit young considering her skills and her job! As for Kai and Logan’s romantic connection, I never really felt any heat between the two but there is something very sweet and protective in the way Logan is with her that it’s clear how he feels.
One question I was left with, what happened to Anjelo?, she went through the portal looking primarily for him but that didn’t reach a conclusion? With the exception of that it all tied together nicely leaving just enough of a hook to make you want the next book.

I don't remember...

I don't remember where or when I acquired this book, but I hope it was a promo or free introductory offer, not a hit on my wallet.

The author says that they can "spin a fairly decent sentence" and that they have over "60 published titles". I'll concede the fairly decent sentence part, but suggest they should focus more on quality and less on quantity. The writing has no depth and tends to over describe emotions rather than showing them in the characterizations. One might assume they write with a thesaurus at hand to supply them with as many adjectives as possible. As one reads it becomes clear that the author thinks their readers are mentally deficient and that they need frequent repetition to be reminded of who/what the characters are and what's occurring in the story.

I've not read any other of the authors books, but based on this one, I recommend giving them a pass.

While waiting for a novel in another one of this author's series I grabbed this one. I enjoy the freshness of her writing so much. I right away knew I had made the right choice in picking one of her books because even though Kailin is a shifter she is not your average one by no means. She is such a interesting character right away she has plunged me into this suspenseful adventure with her. This world is there but not with few knowing but it does effect those that do not know. now it gets my attention with a mystery that involves murder along with many other things in this novel. This author got the touch alright. She is not by herself in this matter she does get help from Logan another character that makes you go yum. I'm kidnapped to the time I reach the end of this one still not satisfied wanting more from this author.
