No one comes between a wolf and their fated mate.Werewolf Laina Flynn has been dodging pressure to mate for years. The successful veterinarian may be Fireborn pack royalty, but she’s happy to leave raising pups to her alpha brother Silas. So when a human triggers her mating instinct, no one is more surprised than her.

As the face of Hunt Club, Kyle Kingsley is no stranger to doing things out of obligation and responsibility. The public demands that he uphold the lifestyle the club has come to embody, even if his playboy persona is all a lie. No surprise then that Kyle volunteers to care for his recently deceased father's dog, even if the mutt is roughly the size of a barn. But when he lands in the clinic of Dr. Laina Flynn, her presence draws out something wild and untamed within him that has nothing to do with his new pet.

An act of violence on Fireborn shifting grounds drives Laina into hiding... and into Kyle’s arms. Instant attraction develops into something more when fated bonds challenge everything.

This is the first book I've read by this author but the reviews, cover and blurb were all good so I decided to give it a try.
I used to love shifter books but recently I've become very disillusioned with them and can't remember the last really good one I read. I don't know if it's me, it's true I've become more discerning the older I get and the more I read or is it that there's just so many shifter books out here that they've simply become carbon copies of each other.
Anyway after reading some of the fabulous reviews for this I was quite excited to begin and jumped it to the top of my huge to-read list.
Now it started well, Laina Flynn is a werewolf princess she's also a vet and runs a successful practice and truly believes she should control her own destiny and future as opposed to her pack and alpha doing it for her.
After her parents were murdered her brother Silas ascended and took on the role of alpha of Fireborn pack and as head of the largest pack in North America, the Fireborn alpha automatically became the First Alpha, the leader of the Lycanthropic Society, the council that led all werewolf packs. It's a lot of responsibility to have put on his shoulders especially following so closely after the murder of his parents.
Laina finds herself inexplicably attracted to a human and is looking forward to their date, obviously he feels the same way but before she can meet with Kyle her brother pulls out the alpha card and forces her to attend a pack ball.
She's obviously upset but Kyle is only in town overnight and he's human and so there's no possible future for them since she's a pureblood and werewolf society will expect her to choose a suitor from within its ranks.
Plans change and Laina finds herself in hiding working behind a bar under the protection of an Ogre with the name of Uncle Monty.
There's a lot here to like, different characters and different species and a nice story threaded through with a couple of small twists here and there but it still felt like something was missing, maybe I'm just too picky but at times I found myself skimming which is never a good sign.

This book truely kept me on the edge of mu seat. I literally read the entire book in one day. The story is about a princess from a lycanthrope society that has fallen hard for a human. Knowing their relationship is forbidden and she couldn't possibly have anything more than a fling, she still falls madly in love with him. Their love isn't easy though. She is hiding her true identity and hiding from a threat that could possibly kill her and her entire royal family. Genevieve Jack has done it again!! I am anticipating the next book in the Fireborn series.

Vice (Fireborn Wolves Book 1) by Genevieve Jack
I loved this book. Genevieve was able to continue with her ability to bring a wonderful story to life. She took characters from her other books and brought them to life with their own stories. I enjoyed reading this book, I never new what was going to happen and was surprised at several of the event. I liked the growth of the main characters and their ability to admit they let others control their lives and to change for the better.
Well worth my time to read this book. I was given an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Exciting and captivating start to the trilogy

I loved Laina and Kyle’s fated mates, wolf shifter romance with a side of danger and magic. The story had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, suspense, world building, and spice. This book is part of a trilogy and ends on a kind of cliffhanger with a HFN but the bad guy is still out there. As long as you are aware of that you’ll enjoy the story. Laina is a wolf shifter and royalty within the Firebird pack. She eschews pack politics and is happy being a veterinarian in a small town. Kyle is a human who is the face of Hunt Club, a pseudo-dating social club where the members practice “hunting” the staff who are clad only in body paint. He also has the reputation of a playboy. When his father dies, Kyle takes in his large dog, Milo, which is when his path initially crosses with Laina. There is instant chemistry and attraction between them, almost a mystical pull, but circumstances separate them and then fate pushes them back together again when they are states away from where they initially met. Laina is in hiding from the unhinged and homicidal wolf who killed her parents and, due to circumstances, Laina agrees to “live” with Kyle to train his dog. Their chemistry sizzled off the page and it pulled them together no matter how hard Laina tried to resist. The more time they spend together, the deeper the connection and stronger the pull is but Laina’s standing in her pack forbids mating with a human. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, spicy scenes, exciting action, danger, family dynamics, painful pasts, mystery, evil actors, plot twists, imperfect characters, and even a few chuckles. The book is well written, with witty dialogue, good world building, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline. I will be diving into the next book to see what happens next. 4.5 stars.

Vice by Genevieve Jack is the first in a new series featuring werewolves and other supernatural creatures. I believe it is a spin off of an early series which I had not read, but that is ok, I dont believe that you would have had to read any of her other novels to get this one. That being said, I have read one other book by Ms. Jack several years ago. (The Ghost and the Graveyard) I quite enjoyed this book which is why I requested this one when I saw it on NetGalley. I do enjoy me some werewolves, so why not???

So my thoughts on this one. About 30% of the way through the book, I have to admit I was a bit worried. Our heros of this novel had really only exchanged a handful of sentences at this point and maybe a page together. So I was concerned with so little interaction how I was going to buy into the love story. While I still think the pacing of the beginning of this book is off, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how Ms. Jack was able to pull out the love story. The couple end up spending about a month together, getting to know each other, so its not like BAM they’re in insta-love. There was a whole bunch of BAM insta-lust, but I am definitely ok with that.

Laina is pretty feisty and an alpha personality. Even though her brother is technically the alpha she puts up a pretty good fight and knows her mind. Kyle is surprisingly sweet, he has a rep of being a playboy but with these things rumors are not often true. He’s a bit of a romantic and has no problem with Liana’s alpha tendencies and in fact encourages them. The story was pretty interesting and it was a quick read. I enjoyed my time with this novel and wouldnt have any problems reading the next book in the series. Oh and a bonus with this book, I found out who Grateful from The Ghost and the Graveyard picked. Yay!

ARC Copy was provided through NetGalley for an honest review. No other compensation was provided.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Genevieve Jack has created another successful story from her magical world of witches, vampires, werewolves, and a host of other creatures. Vice is the story of Laina, werewolf princess of the Fireborn Pack. She's a beautiful, feisty Veterinarian who rebels against pack duties and Alpha orders. As much as she loves her brother, the Alpha, she resents not having control over her own life. She wants love like her parents had, not to be married off for pack interests and forced to produce royal heirs.

Kyle Kingsley has recently inherited his deceased father's dog and visits Laina's clinic. Their chemistry is immediate with Laina's wolf claiming ownership of Kyle. A date is made, but tragic events that night force Laina to run for her life instead. Of course their story doesn't end there. Fortuitous circumstances have them crossing paths again. Kyle is Laina's vice, the one demand by her werewolf that she can't ignore for her sanity's sake. It seems as if he may be even more to her, but there can be no future for them as a couple. They both have family obligations standing between them. Plus with the danger to Laina's family, she may have no future at all.

This book was a well written, compelling story, fast paced with strong characters. I loved Laina and Kyle individually and together. Their family and friends are all a strong supporting cast with a few surprises of their own. Especially loved that! And I loved an appearance from my favorite witch and her dragon-man. I enjoyed every minute of this book. I used to believe I didn't like werewolves, but that has changed. I love the family/pact dynamics and conflicts. I love their love and loyalty, their beauty and fierceness. Since the danger persists I look forward to continuing with The Fireborn Pact in the future. I want Laina's story to continue and I want more of her brothers. This one is definitely worth a read!

Vice is the first book in the Fireborn Wolves series. This book is about Lania, Dr. Laina Flynn, who is a veterinarian as well as a werewolf. We actually start out with Kyle, who is with his father who is dying. Kyle decides he wants to keep his father’s dog, a mastiff but on his way home across county Milo gets sick so he stops at a vet’s office and meets Lania. Lania is very interested in Kyle when they first meet, and he asks her out to dinner but she has to cancel because of a family event. While at the formal dinner, there is a very brutal display of a wolf that was tortured and left as a warning. Lania goes home, but decides to check out her clinic first, and finds a warning. In the meantime, her bodyguard went straight to her apartment, and was almost killed. So now Lania has to go into hiding. Will they figure out what is going on now? Will Kyle and Lania ever get to have their date? Read and see.

This book is great. WARNING: The book contains very steamy sex scenes. This is for 18+ readers. The characters seem to come alive very quickly. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal stories, complete with fairies, werewolves, ogres and much more. I can’t wait to read the next one!

I’m giving this book 5 hearts

Ok, I guess but still rather lame...

Two dimensional characters with almost insurmountable villain, felt a bit been there done that ..
.i liked the h wanting her Independence, but her ideas abou anything and everything seemed to be quickly quelled by others,
I HATED the "club" , why the h was obsessing over Kyle she was ignoring Anton else who was a threat... Lainia seemed really smart one minute and dumb the next, brave one,and just giving up the next, and while I kinda see she was trying protect Kyle near the end caving to her d bag brothers demands to marry a gay wolf just because it looked good on paper ?
Sighs, that's totally spineless.... this book was all I've h place for me , i'm an independent feminist one minute who fights for love, the next I'm spineless and weak and do what ever my d bag brother says ...
Wasted .99 cents on this but at least now I know ..

Laina and Kyle's Story . . .

Werewolf Dr. Laina Flynn doesn’t want a mate nor pups. She is a veterinarian and is happy to do her job and let her brother increase the family size. Human Kyle Kingsley hides behind his fake playboy reputation, but there is much more to him. When he takes ownership of his deceased father’s enormous dog Milo, he ends up meeting the vet and is immediately attracted to her. When Laina’s pack is threatened, her brother sends them to safety and she ends up meeting Kyle again. The attraction is even stronger. But will she be able to convince Kyle that he is her mate? Would he be willing to accept her? Does he feel the same for her?

Don’t start this book unless you have time to read straight through. If you like shifter romances that focus more on an engaging storyline with a mystery and mild suspense than bedroom, or ahem forest activities, this book is for you. I cannot wait to see how the characters continue to develop throughout the series.

Fireborn Hotness

If you read the original version of this story I can promise that the rewrite is better and hotter. Laina & Kyle's story drug me in and didn't let me up for a breath until the end. I loved the updated cultural references, added steamy scenes, and tweaks that enhanced the story. I can't wait to read the next two!

3/5 ⭐️
2/5 🌶️

I was on the hunt for a werewolf (or vampire) book in my Kobo+ library and stumbled across Fated Bonds by Genevieve Jack. To my surprise, it wasn’t just another smutty paranormal romance 😅 Sure, there are a few steamy scenes, but this book actually surprised me with a solid storyline and some interesting world-building.

📚 What’s it about?
Laina, a veterinarian and werewolf royalty, is tired of being controlled by her destiny as the sister of the alpha. She wants to live life on her own terms, but pack politics (and her royal werewolf bloodline) keep pulling her back in 🐺 When a mysterious man —who just happens to be the one who murdered her parents—comes after her, Laina is forced to go into hiding. Cue *Kyle* 😏

Kyle, a charming human and the face of an elite club called the Hunt Club (where predators and prey can live out their deepest fantasies 😅), doesn’t fit his stereotypical playboy persona. Underneath the facade, he wants a real, lasting relationship. But when Laina enters his life, his world is turned upside down—especially since Laina’s werewolf mating instincts are triggered by him, and she’s NOT allowed to take a human as her mate 😬

As their relationship heats up, danger looms, and Laina’s past threatens to tear everything apart.

💖 Why I liked it:
I’ll be honest, I was expecting just another smutty werewolf romance, but I ended up with quite a complex world of supernatural beings living side by side with humans. There’s magic, mystery, and a forbidden romance that had me hooked from the start 🖤

The insta-lust was a little too insta, but I get it—mating instinct and all that. Plus, it wasn’t completely out of left field for this genre, so I went with it 😅

My only complaint? The sheer number of different species and relationships was a bit overwhelming 🐉 I think this was an issue for me since I haven’t read the other books set in this world (I totally wasn’t prepared for how complex this world was, I thought this was just a smutty werewolf romance, haha). There’s werewolves, ogres, fairies, witches, and more, all set in the present day. It kinda gave me Vampire Diaries vibes! 🧛‍♀️🩸

But honestly, the integration of magic into the modern world was fascinating. The hidden society of supernatural beings coexisting with humans was a cool twist that kept me intrigued.

What’s Next?
I’m curious to see where this goes next! The next two books are about Laina’s brothers—Jason (the playboy) and Silas (the grumpy Alpha). I’m already intrigued, but I just hope we don’t get stuck in a cycle where the villain keeps escaping at the end of every book, only to come back stronger in the next one 😬

Why you’ll love it:
✨ Strong FMC who’s also a werewolf
💘 MMC with a playboy persona—but with a romantic twist
🧚🏼‍♀️ Witches, shifters, fairies, and more, set in the modern world
🔥 Fated mates & forbidden love
🕵️‍♂️ A villain plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat
⚡️ Fast-paced with a touch of magic and mystery

If you’re into shifters, forbidden romance, and a world that blends ancient magic with modern day life, Fated Bonds might just be your next obsession.

An action packed, intense, romantic suspense that's a must read! I was pulled in right from the start, and kept on the edge of my seat till the very end. With it's unique storyline, complex characters you can't help but love-most of them anyway, sizzling hot chemistry, secrets, lies, betrayal, intense situations, and intriguing twists, this is a story that you won't want to miss. Just when you think you have it all figured out, there's another surprise twist that you never saw coming. A fantastic story, and an excellent beginning to this new series!

This is my first book by this author, and I can promise that it won't be the last! The book was very well written, the characters were developed and easy to connect with, and the story was unique and had aspects that were unlike most other wolf/shifter books, which made it more interesting. I'm not usually into ogres, witches, and other magical creatures, but I like the way the author included them into this story. I can't wait for more from this author, and the next book in the series!
I strongly recommend this book and author.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest and unbiased review.

Vice: an addiction

This series opener is a little different spin on werewolves and fae. It features Kyle Kingsley, co-owner of The Hunt, a club that caters to men's fantasies, and Dr. Laina Flynn, a veterinarian and a werewolf princess. The first part of the book got lost behind Laina jumping from soap box to soap box to judgemental conclusions. And even later when the story was moving along, something felt off. There was never an emotional connection for me. The ending felt rushed and hollow, and I would have liked to see more detail and more of a connection between Kyle and Laina. I was questioning whether to continue with the series, but the description for book two is intriguing. I've checked it out of the KU library and will be reading it next. This one gets 3.5 stars.

I think it took Laina and Kyle too long to come to the point where they were free to love each other and much effort for it to suddenly be over. Nothing would keep them apart.
I am not happy, however, that Alex got away. Alex is the prick who threatens to overthrow Silas and rule all the packs but is using a magic dragons amulet. It just means more trouble on the horizon for Laina and the Fireborn pack of Werewolves. Thank God for fairy godmothers! Gerty! Oh and their dog Milo!

An exciting good read.

A well written and edited, as well as paced novel.

The only reason that I gave it four stars was the, albeit wonderful, story we have read before in various forms..
