-Là-bas un feu ! lança Bill Ballantine.
-tu veux dire un incendie, corrigea Bob Morane.
Dans la lumière diffuse du crépuscule, on distinguait une hacienda qui semblait flamber telle une torche.
Morane et son ami allaient lancer leurs chevaux en direction de l'incendie lorsqu'un groupe de cavaliers masqués passa près d'eux au grand galop.
-J'ai l'impression, fit Bill, que ces gaillards sont bien pressés.
-Ouais, maugréa Bob. Et je n'ai jamais aimé les porteurs de cagoules. Doivent pas avoir la conscience nette...
Il n'en fallait pas plus pour piquer la curiosité des deux amis.
