ARC provided by publisher through Edelweiss for an honest review.

This just wasn't for me. It took me forever to get through it. I liked the idea of it, but there were too many stories going on for it to be a short story and the fact that I hadn't read the earlier books in the series kept me from being connected to anyone in particular, other than Max.

Max's story was heartbreaking and sweet at the same time. There just wasn't enough for me to give it a better rating.

The Cupcake Diaries: Spoonful of Christmas is the fourth book in the series by Darlene Panzera. I have really enjoyed all of the previous books and this one was just as much fun to read. When the women who own Creative Cupcakes are approached by a businessman to sell the business, they all have to really search their hearts about what to do. Adding to the stress of deciding what to do, is the planning for Rachel’s wedding and a Grinch who keeps causing problems for the shop. There is also the matter of a little boy named Max who is in a bad situation and needs some Christmas magic.
I love these stories because they are always fun to read and just the right length for a quick shot of feel-good reading. The characters have real problems and some not so big ones but they act like adults and work them out. In this book the buy-out offer and career issues cause the couples to have different ideas about what they want to do but eventually they all talk together and come to an agreement. The Christmas theme was perfectly played throughout.
I’m looking forward to another book hopefully coming out soon.

What Drama!

Andi, Rachel, and Kim own a cupcake store that has hit the Big Time fast. They have an offer to buy the bakery for over a million dollars. Andi’s husband,Jake, just got an offer to be a reporter in Washington D. C. and thinks the offer is coming at the perfect time. Rachel’s fiancée, Mike, sees the offer as the best way to get them to move closer to Hollywood where he makes miniatures for movie producers. Kim’s boyfriend, Nathaniel, sees it as an escape to travel for a year.
Now the girls must decide what to do while keeping the bakery Christmas ready and getting Rachel’s Cinderella wedding to completion right before Christmas. Jake, in the mean time, has been doing an article about foster homes triggering a quick rush to buy presents for all the foster kid’s in their town.
The story runs fast as you jump with the characters from family, shopping, wedding preparation and themed cupcakes in the bakery. Oh, did I forget the Grinch has gotten up to his old tricks of trying to steal everyone’s Christmas joy?

Previously reviewed on The Good, The Bad, & The Unread:

Based on the title, I picked this one up expecting to read a US equivalent of the UK’s Jenny Colgan (whose Meet Me at the Cupcake Café has only recently been published over the pond): the blurb makes comparisons to Debbie Macomber, but while I recognise the name, I don’t think I’ve read anything of hers. As promised by the title, the book is about the life and loves of three young women who have gone into business together selling cupcakes, but there the similarity to Colgan, in my opinion, ended.

The fourth in a series, this short book feels rather over-stuffed with characters – not just the three main couples from previous books but also a large collection of family, friends, and friends-of-friends, many of whom I assume will be familiar to readers who have been following the series, but some of whom seem to be newly introduced. The book opens with the three heroines (and this book would really have benefitted from concentrating on just one couple) preparing for Christmas, and a Christmas wedding, as well as debating whether or not to sell their successful cupcake business to a millionaire who wants to make a present of it to his daughter. All have reasons for wanting to hang onto the shop, but equally all are facing upheavals in their love lives – and so the vast sums of money on offer would come in very useful.

And that’s just one subplot in this novella! As well as three romance subplots, there’s also the mystery of who has been sabotaging the shop’s Christmas decorations, and the story of a young boy in foster care who has little to look forward to over the festive season (I find his story possibly the least believable of the lot – in spite of, as well as because of, various high-profile mishandled cases recently, I doubt his foster parents would have been approved by the UK authorities and assume the US system works in a similar way). The subplots are interwoven to greater or lesser extents, as the heroines and heroes get involved in the collection of presents for underprivileged children – which are then stolen by the saboteur, who also disrupts the Christmas wedding – and the boy who sparked their interest in the foster-care system crops up again and again in the lives of all of them.

Although I kept reading in order to find out who this saboteur would turn out to be, I’m rather disturbed that the characters seem to have no insurance against break-ins and so are potentially facing ruin due to the sabotage – not to mention all those donated presents that had to be replaced. They really need a business advisor – something Colgan seems quite good at slipping into her tales of young women setting up in business. I’m also disturbed by the attitude of all three heroines towards food and body-image; although they make and sell cupcakes, it seems that they very rarely eat their products, and when they do, the experience is the ritualised division of a single cupcake between them. Plus, at least one of them fears pregnancy due to not wanting to get fat. I’d expect that sort of attitude to be flagged up as an issue for the heroine to overcome in a UK book of similar genre, rather than something regarded as normal by all three main female characters.

Somehow this book manages not to score a total fail for me, but I doubt I’ll be picking up anything else by the author unless I can be reassured by other readers that the issues that made me cross in this one won’t be appearing again.

My first introduction to this series, although this is the fourth installment: a perfect little nibble for the Christmas season. Christmas is coming and Andi is determined to make the first one with her new family memorable. Rachel is all aflutter with her Christmas Eve wedding, and Kimberly is wondering just where her relationship with Nathaniel is going.

With a thriving cupcake business, the ladies have reached a crossroads: a million-dollar offer to purchase Creative Cupcakes has them all thinking about the future, whether they want to stay in Astoria, and just what new surprises the holiday will bring. Yes, they do all wonder about what else may be out there, but their loyalty to one another keeps them together.

There are many different stories interwoven within this novella: each character from the earlier books has a part to play in the decisions and activities of this story. The addition of Max and the other children in foster care, some vandalism at the shop, and an all-out effort to provide the foster children in Astoria with Christmas presents and fun brings a sense of community and togetherness as the group bands together in a joint purpose.

These are characters that feel complete and whole: the sort of people you would welcome as neighbors and friends. While there may have been a touch of the melodramatic with all of the mishaps, the heart of the story shines through, and brings readers a conclusion that is both happy and completely in fitting with the Christmas spirit. I think I now have to see where this story started, and will be grabbing the earlier books in this series for reading in the new year. A nice bite of sweetness for the holiday, quick and fast reading: one that will leave a smile on your face.

I received an eArc copy of the title via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review with Tasty Book Tours. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Creative Cupcakes is doing really well and now it has an offer from a businessman to buy it. The three friends who run it Andi, Kim and Rachel aren't sure they want to sell it because it is their heart and soul. However they each have new things happening in their lives and aren't sure where their future lays. Andi may be moving, Rachel's wedding is coming up and Kim doesn't know where her love life is going. Now when Andi has decided to have a Christmas party for foster kids and get the town involve. What should be a great things soon turns bad when a Grinch steals all the presents and destroys Rachel's wedding. They are all feeling the holiday blues and don't know what to do. If they shold stay and toough things out or sale the shop and go their own ways.

I fell in love with this series from the first book. All the characters are so wonderful you can't help but feel you really know them. This book continues the three womens story as they are at a turning point in there lives. They aren't sure what they want to do and where their lives are going. They love the town and their shop but have things they want in life or think they want. I adore these ladies and each time I read a story with them I want more even when it wraps up so nicely. I have to say I didn't know who the Grinch in this story was to the end. I thought I knew but was proved wrong. Oh and be prepared to want some yummy cupcakes as I do everytime I read these stories. I liked the ending of this one the best as it really warmed my heart. I would tell anyone to read this as it has romance, intrigue and characters and a place you never want to leave.

I think books like this...well series like this should have their own genre. Small town cozies! It has to be cozy!

This novella is book 4 in The Cupcake Diaries series and it is cupcake size. (It probably should be book 3.5 but I won't quibble)

It follows the lives of Andi, Kim and Rachel all who are owners of Creative Cupcakes.

There's a lot going on in this short novella; a rich old man wants to buy their business for his daughter, weddings are being planned, dreams of being married are happening, and careers may or may not be being advanced, a sweet little foster kid, oh and there's a real life Grinch in town that's trying to make sure that no one is going to have a Merry Christmas.

First the Creative Cupcake window is vandalized, then presents for the foster children's Christmas party are stolen..and then Rachel's wedding is...well...I don't want to spoil it...

The Grinch is so Grinchy the roast beef is even stolen and when you think that things aren't going to work out for anyone.

This was a great read and you don't have to read the other books to dive in, but I guarantee that when you finish this one, you'll go back, so you get get a proper introduction to everyone in the stories.

This book was a short and easy read. I chose it because I wanted a holiday-themed story for Christmas, and this delivered on that. But I think that's all I really liked about it. There were too many main characters, and they all had their own drama for us to follow. That just wound up being way too much...

Also, I found the adults in this book to be really frustrating. All of their relationships suffered from a lack of communication and they acted like $1 million was an inconceivably high amount of money (talking about stopping working and buying 20-bedroom mansions... With their $333,333 share?).

Finally, I found it really annoying how the author chose to skip days at a time without much notice. Like "I'm getting married tomorrow" turned into her waiting to walk down the aisle in the next paragraph. I don't mind missing the time, but it makes it hard to figure out the time frame when the author shifts between days and characters without indicating that's what is happening (however, I was reading on an e-reader, so maybe that changed things)

Spoonful of Christmas is the fourth book in The Cupcake Diaries series by Darlene Panzera. This book is part of a series and while it can be read as a standalone, I find it best read as part of the series. Andi, Rachel, and Kim own Creative Cupcakes together. Someone comes into the store with the intent to buy them out. Now each of them is contemplating selling the store and what they would do with the money. As each contemplate selling, a Grinch is giving them problems at the store.

I loved that while this book is a short story there were several story lines interwoven. I found this story to be well written. The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic. I loved that Andi, Rachel, and Kim handled the problems as adults and there was not a lot of unnecessary drama. I have not read the prior books but I will be picking them up soon. Overall, this was an interesting and heartwarming story.

This was a really cute book! Once again, I love books that take place in a bakery/coffee shop! This one had a real nice but fun Christmas theme. And even though it was about three women I didn't have as much trouble keeping them apart like I usually do.
Very nice character development, I thought all the characters were believable. I even liked the kids that were in the story.
I also liked the cute cover, who doesn't like a cover with a cupcake?
This was a touching, fun, sexy (but not graphic) quick book to read for the holidays!

Andi, Rachel and Kim have their own reasons for wanting Christmas to be special this year at creative cupcakes.
Rachel and Mike will get married on Christmas Eve unless her Cousin Stacey ruins the Wedding.

Andi is afraid Jake's job offer from a newspaper in Washington DC will cause them to move.

Kim is afraid Nathaniel will never propose and he will break up with her after the Holidays.

Than they have a modern day Grinch trying to ruin Christmas. Can they find out who the Grinch is before its to late.. or will this be the Christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons!

This was a short novella Christmas book. It didn't really have much of a storyline to it. It attempted to have two or three storylines but they didn't really 'go anywhere' and a quarter of the way through you could figure out how the storylines were going to end. It wasn't super horrible but just didn't have a lot to keep my attention although I did read it all the way through since it was only 115 pages over a quarter of the back of the book is inserts from other books so it makes the book look bigger than it really is.

It's a sweet story full of delicious sounding cupcakes. Wish there was a store like that around me. The plot twists around Christmas and the events in the lives of the three owners of Creative Cupcakes. When life seems to be going well, there is always a bump in the road. There are three bumps in this road and more. They are visited by the Grinch and Christmas is almost ruined. How they put the broken puzzle pieces back together is good reading.

This is the 4th book in the series and is about the three ladies from the prior books. I was happy about that part. I like to visit with characters I like. What I wasn't happy about is once again some of the ladies want to get rid of the shop. It's like a broken record. Move on. I did enjoy other things about the story so I did read it and enjoy it for the most part.

I really enjoyed this sweet, fun romance story. The characters were believable and the interwoven little mystery brought out the truth that all of us need to love and be loved by those around us. The importance of sharing yourself with others was shown as more important than monetary gifts. Thank you, Darlene, for this pleasant diversion and for the giveaway :)

A very cute "feel good" story for Christmas. It helps us to remember that there are others less fortunate and kids that have no real family and that the foster care system doesn't really work.
