Ecstatic Alphabets/Heaps of Language

Rate this book
Ecstatic Alphabets/Heaps of Language is published in conjunction with an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art (May 6 – August 27, 2012). The exhibition brings together forty-four modern and contemporary artists and artists’ groups working in all mediums including painting, sculpture, film, video, audio, spoken word, and design, all of whom concentrate on the material qualities of written and spoken language—visual, aural, and beyond. The most conventional and familiar materialization of language is the book, which the exhibition acknowledges through this publication. Designed and produced by Dexter Sinister the book is also volume #3 in the continuing, composite printed and electronic, series Bulletins of The Serving Library published twice-yearly by Dexter Sinister. It is that artist team’s contribution to the exhibition.

The book features thirteen “bulletins” by Andrew Blum, Pierre-André Boutang, Chris Evans, Angie Keefer, Bruno Latour, Louis Lüthi, Graham Meyer, Francis McKee, David Reinfurt, Dexter Sinister, Ian Svenonius, Benjamin Tiven, and Jessica Winter plus an essay by Laura Hoptman, reproductions of works in the exhibition, and an exhibition checklist.
