Reason for Reading: I received this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway.

Review: Although it's the second book in the series, readers will have no problem jumping right into Mountain Miracle. Each chapter reads like its own mini-story within Elizabeth's life, and the author remains consistently faithful to the book's setting throughout. Had I read this book as a child, I probably would have enjoyed it very much. However, as an adult reader of YA fiction, I did not feel fully engaged. Overall, I rate Mountain Miracle 3 of 5 stars.

Elizabeth is thirteen and living on the family farm in the mountains of West Virginia. She has a special friendship with her Uncle John and she helps him come out of his shell. He plays his fiddle in church and through his gift saves Pearly from the fire. The author shows life on the mountain farm and how they grow their food and work together to provide for the needs of the family. Elizabeth is learning to accept that she is growing up and becoming a young lady as she helps with her younger sisters and helps her family.

As a winner of a free copy through Goodreads First Reads Giveaway, I did enjoy this book but it is definitely targeted to a younger audience. Book is a very sweet coming of age story that takes place on a farm in West Virginia in the early 1950s. It is the second book in the series, but I did not read the first book and felt it was not crucial to enjoying the story.
