When the Past Catches Up to You...A sophisticated socialite, Ella Carmichael seems to have it all -- Jackie O good looks, a handsome husband whose political career is on the rise, loving parents, and a beautiful home just outside Seattle. Still, the recesses of her mind hold a secret she is unaware of until a fateful bump to the head. Janie Blue, on the other hand, is a free spirit open to adventure with a penchant for knocking the socks off any man she meets-including the charming Chase O'Leary, who comes to her rescue on his way to Sin City. Between Chase's line of work, Ella's narcissistic husband, and Janie's past, a tangled web of lies, fraud, and murder weaves through the Mojave Desert to the Pacific Northwest, daring anyone to cross its path.
Of course, married to a politician, she’s beautiful. The question, what is her connection to these unsavory desert characters? A quick read, an unexpected twist, you won’t want to put it down.
Such a interesting and thrilling read. It got me from the 1st chapter! I couldn’t put it down. I’m really looking for a sequel, let’s hope she’s busy writing the next one.
Ultimate beach read. I read basically overnight and couldn’t put the book down. Oh I wish I could meet Janie in person — such compelling storyline! Release the next one soon!!!!
What A Book!! I normally don’t write out reviews, but since I met Suzy last weekend, I owe this to her. I went into a local bookshop & Suzy was there doing a signing. I decided to try her book since she’s local to me and boy, she didn’t disappoint! I couldn’t put the book down. Thrilling, romantic, enticing, Suzy, you “aced” this! ;) I was shocked that this was her debut novel, because she writes like someone who’s done this her entire life - I can’t wait for her next one and many more to come!!
The storyline of this book has a lot of potential, but it was a tough read because of the quality of writing. The tone of the novel is oddly formal for a beach read, and the dialogue felt unnatural and forced. It felt like the author used a thesaurus to choose the most academic sounding words, even when they made no contextual sense. If you can muscle through reading this book, you may enjoy the story. But for me, it wasn’t worth how often I found myself putting the book down out of frustration for how difficult it was to read.
This author lures you in, nice and easy. The night the weather and then more hints that this will not be a light odyssey but will also be one of interest and well assembled and put together fun. After only a few pages it's evident that this new author is not one that the reader will have to worry is going to have a weak or bad ending. Great work and not like a first effort at all...I read this book in one afternoon without putting it down.
This book has a lot of potential with the story line but lacked in quality of writing. I often found myself saying “huh, what?” when the author would obligingly give us a detail just to make the story work but was completely out of place. The character development was ok - I liked Janie/Ella and didn’t like Dan but I didn’t quite believe the killer part of him. We didn’t see the ambition built up. So a little disappointed but all the qualities of a beach read
This is not your average summer beach read: SO much better! Our Bookclub wanted a lighter read for summer and someone suggested this. Pleasantly surprised as I don’t usually enjoy that genre; it was well written, with more depth and reality than a beach read, and not fluffy! And intriguing how the author wrote it as a way to work out some tough stuff that had happened to her, according to the postscript / author’s note! Great!
What a great novel! I picked it up to read and could not put it down. The characters were so interesting, and the storyline kept me captivated with a great combination of romance and mystery. I am hoping the author is working on a sequel because I loved this storyline and the characters. Keeping my fingers crossed. 5 stars for sure.
Great characters, some likeable, some quite dislikeable. This story winds through the life of a woman who lost her mother at a young age and went on to become the wife of a ruthless senator. Lots to follow and absorb in this tale.
I’m impressed how the story integrates casino action, politics and romance! And much more. I love the story since is not predictable ! This is an action packed plot great for young adults, men and women !!
