Do you feel like you are searching for something in your life and you don’t know what it is? Have you ever felt an empty space inside like a pit in your stomach that you get when you have some bad news, someone lets you down, or you’ve just been let go in a relationship or job? Maybe you have this hunger feeling that you feed with food, but nothing seems to curb the appetite. We all have some kind of hole or hunger inside that we fill with whatever we can find- food, shopping, drinking, relationships, drugs, sleep, exercise- some of us choose a variety of things and others might obsess with just one. If you don’t have access to any of these fillers, how would you feel? You exercise a lot and feel great, but maybe the gym is closed and it’s raining. What’s your next move? Maybe you get irritable finding fault with everything including yourself. Maybe you snap at people at work, friends, and family, and maybe you cry. The day passes and you are back on your routine and you think nothing of the little breakdown chalking it up to a bad day. What you don’t realize is that it’s a pattern and it will happen again when you don’t have access to these fillers. What is this hunger or hole we have? A light bulb has begun to go on in your head (metaphorically speaking) as you have just brilliantly diagnosed your friend! It’s easier to see in someone else what we don’t want to see in ourselves. Fixing everyone else’s problems keeps us distracted from facing our own and let’s face it, there will never be a drought of friends or family with problems.
