Lexi Ostrow has weaved a fairytale that starts off in the wilds of New York, to the beauty of Ireland to the enchanting Fae Realm. She's very descriptive in her writing so the stage is easily set. I liked the characters, Astrid is full of curiosity and wants an adventure and her grumpy bodyguard Ronin isn't so bad. He has a playful side which I didn't expect. This was a slow burn, with Astrid and Ronin circling each other, falling for each other without realizing it right away, or should I say in denial at first but they make a nice pair.
There are loads of supernatural creatures in this book but the story focuses on unicorn shifters. In my opinion, there aren't nearly stories that focus on unicorns (in this age range, haha) so I'm happy to get a story that centers on them. It has a unique feel. Especially since unlike in other stories they are unicorns first and humans second, it gives off a different vibe and I like it. There's unrest in the fae realm so of course there's a villain and his perspective is given. The way Ostrow wove him into the story is good, the saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions " fits this guy to a tee.
The story was entertaining but there were some parts that confused me and the main conflict was a little anticlimactic, I expected something slightly different. Even so, overall I enjoyed Between Realms, it was a good read.
