Marriage Mayhem #5

The Marriage Merger: Engagement Edition

Rate this book
My Dear Syros,

By the time you get this letter, I will be gone. Please don't look for me. My decision to end our engagement wasn't an easy one, but it's one that I have to make. More than anything in the world, I want you to be happy, but I also deserve the same happiness.

You can blame the broken engagement on me. I'm certain my father will. With me out of the picture, you and my father will have to find another way for you both to get what you want. I will no longer be a bargaining chip for either of you to use.

As brief as it was, I want to thank you for the time we spent with one another even if it didn't lead to a future together. You are a very intelligent and attractive man, and you have a lot to offer the right person. I am sure you will find someone better suited for you than me.

Take care, Syros. I hope you find your happiness...Love, Parker

Arranged Marriage/Evil Dad
1 Star ⭐️ DNF

This makes The Good Liar by CP Harris look like a masterpiece. This started strong but just went downhill as time went on. It’s so ridiculously stupid especially that no one can find Parker when he never left town. 🙄 With all that money and connections you’d think the dad could track him down. There are way too many bad guys. Also, this needs an editor.

But the final nail in the coffin was the beginning of this sex scene:

”I want to make love to you, Parker," I said softly. I smiled and reached down to caress the side of Parker's face again when the man's jaw dropped. I could see the confusion in his face, the uncertainty.”

“I inhaled sharply when his lips closed around my finger and the man began sucking on it. Each draw of Parker's mouth felt like it was mirrored on my cock. I suddenly knew Parker was going to be big trouble for me. He seemed very oral.”

I hate the term “make love” but especially how it was used here because Syros thought for years that Parker was an idiot, mentally unfit, would make a terrible husband and yet with one conversation and a cringy af dance scene, his whole impression changes and Parker is the one for him. It was like whiplash and made absolutely no sense. That coupled with “He seemed very oral” just ramped the cringe factor up way too much for me to want to continue this train wreck.

Meh.

I think Syros was dumb. And he secretly loved his mistress.
All of the name in the world, why she named Camilla?
A mistress named Camilla. Ring any bells?
And all through the story to the end, Camilla was still there. And guess what? She got what she wanted! Money!
I can't believe I finished this story in the first place.
Parker deserved someone better.

Thumb down.

Are you kidding me Ms Foxx???? After all that, no epilogue ??? Parker's father was a POS for everything he did to son and I was waiting for him to suffer!! Having Brad do what he did to Parker was fucking despicable. Yet all we get is him being walked off the stage by cops. It is implied he will go to jail but I wanted more to be said !!!!!! I loved Syros and Parker as MCs and love seeing Kyue and Lucas along with past characters. Buffy was the best, loved her for how she looked after and treated Parker. Buffy's dad Carl was awesome to Parker. I hate when books by any author do not give their readers satisfaction in the end. We put our time into reading these books and half the time we are left pissed off.

This was book 5 in the "Marriage Mayhem" series. This was a really good book. Parker Lane who we met in the last book working for Kyue. Parker was born into a rich family he was betrothed to someone that his father picked. Syros Aetós has worked at Lane industries for 10 years he is engaged to marry Parker. I didn't like how Syros treated Parker I also didn't like his father. I loved that Kyue and Lucas was willing to step in to help him when he decides to disappear. Parker is living his life when he is followed after leaving work. I was really glad that Syros started listening to Parker's friend started telling him about his life and how he was beaten and put in the hospital multiple times. I was so glad that Syros started realizing that not everything is as it seem he started seeing Parker in a new light. I also didn't like Syros former mistress she wouldn't take no for an answer. This was a good read Parker's father was a monster. Buffy's brother was crazy. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

this entire book was frustrating AS (spoilers)

I applaud the author for wanting to change up the storyline so all the books in this series don’t follow the same sequence and apparently that was REALLY hard to do because this book ended up being a clusterf*ck and so damn frustrating!!! The first three books maybe four books (I didn’t read the fourth book) were super security focused so once there was a threat everyone went into hyper security mode; this book there’s more of a threat and there’s no security around and no security measures taken by the characters. The name of the book implies a merger, that would imply Syros and his company are merging with Parker’s family company....not the case, Syros is just an employee who parker’s father is grooming to take over his company. With the author trying to make this book unique to others in the series they tried to change everything and I don’t think it worked. So much so, the author forgot character information and development...among other things. There is NOTHING about Syros’ family, nothing about his background, to such a detriment that he has apparently no one who asks a lawyer to look over the agreement he has been signing since he was 15 and he continues to sign it every year up until age 34 without once having it checked out or him being suspicious about its contents. At one point in the beginning of the story, Syros tells his assistant to find out everything she can on Parker. Apparently that was too similar to previous books because we never read that she finds anything out, the story is changed so he finds out everything from Buffy or Parker........halfway through the book. The assistant at the beginning of the story is like his second hand...following the same sequence as in previous books.....but then you hear nothing about her, she all but disappears.

Parker ‘runs’ away, apparently fearful, but as soon as he reconnects with Syros three months later, no longer is he security conscious or fearful. Syros is well aware of the harm caused to Parker, yet he too is oblivious to making anything secure. They pull in Miles and Jake from previous books into the story but for what use? No security measures are included anywhere.

Both characters come across as super dumb. The story is scattered and instead of tying up small things as the story progresses, it’s like the author is waiting to wrap everything up in a bow at the end, which makes the story more frustrating and drags it on unnecessarily. For example, syros finds out that money he signed off on for Parker’s tuition and apartment wasn’t used for such as Parker had long since graduated and paid for his own apartment, the thought pops in “where did the money go”, but no queries are made, not one!

To top off all this, whoever edited the book didn’t do a good job, there are a fair number of errors all through this book.

I don’t know which is worse, reading books one and two and finding that they are identical except for the character names and character backgrounds or reading this book and feeling like you’re driving around an unknown city filled with one-way streets and roundabouts.

The personal side of the story was pretty good, but demerits for the rest. If your company has shareholders then it is not just your company, you merely have an equity stake in it the same as other shareholders. You cannot bequeath nor sell the company, you can transfer only your own shareholding, and there is the underlying premise of the story blown to smithereens.

Easy read and completely unrealistic

I really want to give this book a two star rating except the support characters are amazing. This series has quite often dealt with unlikely scenarios for love, but this one is ridiculous. I have never before wanted to reach into a book and strangle the main character more than this book.

Not our bike designer, he is awesome and deserves the best for what the author put him through; but the president in training? Drop him off a roof and film it in slow motion.

Thank goodness Kyue was in this one to help. But he truly should have had the opportunity to drop the president in training.

And is it bad that I finished the book and can't remember the main character's names?

Another Marriage Mayhem

Parker and Syros are betrothed and have been promised to each other since Parker was a child. Syros has always thought he knew all about Parker and his issues but since their engagement was to be made official he realises he doesn't know him at all. Groomed to take over as President of the company by Parkers father recent events leads him to think that not everthing is as it seems. If you are looking for a love story, some steamy times and a bit of action then try this series. While some moments might suspend belief the series is still enjoyable. Hope there's a next one.

How do I start? This book, especially Syros really pissed me off!

But first off, I want to expressed my feelings about Parker.

Parker's life wasn't sunshines and rainbows, his life was hell thanks to his father, Frank. He was a controlling SOB and physically abusive towards Parker. When he was 18 yo, his best friend's brother tried to raped him but Frank blamed Parker for that. Nothing good ever happened to Parker except one, when Frank set up an engagement between Parker and Syros. Later, it turned out to be a big disappointment for Parker too.

Parker had loved Syros since he was teenager, dreaming to build his life together with him but over the years, Parker realized Syros married him because he wants to be the company president and when Frank showed him a pictures of Syros and a woman named Camilla, a pretty graphic pictures of him and her while they were having sex in his bedroom taken without Syros consent, Parker wants nothing to do with Syros anymore. He tried to break the engagement but Frank beat him unconscious and that was the last time Frank ever put him in the hospital.

What I hate the most was Syros.

The reason he started a relationship with Camilla was for very selfish reason. He was lonely. WTF??!! He was told lies after lies for 10 years by Frank that Parker couldn't take care of himself, always on medication for his temper tantrums made Syros think he will facing a lifetime taking care of partner that had mentality of a child. He didn't see his marriage to be real and having intimate relationship with Parker never crossed his mind.

Syros started "a temporary arrangement" with Camilla for a couple of years. He said to her that their physical relationship has an expired date. Syros said to Parker "It was nothing serious, just companionship." If he was lonely and need companionship, he could rent an escort services, did hook-ups or one night stands just don't commit in any relationship, temporary or not! I felt like Parker treated very poorly by Syros. While Parker saved his virginity for him, Syros was busy with his so-called temporary arrangement with Camilla. Parker never ever been kissed by Syros! Thank fuck the author didn't give this book more complication like a child or unwanted pregnancy from Camilla!! Just thinking about it made me not feeling good, at all.

When Syros said "I never loved her, Parker", "You never loved me either." Then Syros admitted, "No, I didn't but I could have". That was the most heartbreaking statement ever! My heart ached for Parker.

"Distance makes the heart grow fonder" I bet that was Syros feels after 3 months. He never heard any news about Parker and once he knew about Frank abusive behaviors, the truth behind all the lies and finally, Parker showed his color, his true self, his true identity, Syros took interest on Parker, on new Parker but, fuck you Syros, you were late and Parker have been through hell because of you!! Not 100% your fault, but still you were big part of it mostly because of your involment with Camilla the bish!!

Almost forgot, can't wait (if there's a chance) for Detective Waterston get his own happy ending.

finally done

Sometimes being a completist is difficult, but I finished the series.
The writing got slightly better with each book. By the end, it still was only adequate.
It was not as ridiculous or cringe worthy as the earlier ones in the series. Still pretty bad. A common troupe can be fun, but these are straight out of 50 year old Harlequins, just switched to M/M. Not well though. The sex scenes almost read as M/F reworked.
None had very good sex scenes. Can we say refractory time. Other things too, but I want my review posted so I won’t go into detail.
The author is improving. Maybe someday we will see something good.

Let me just start with this: I love this series so very, very much. I had no idea another book was coming out so when I saw this, I *pounced* instantly. No disappointment was had. Aja Foxx writes relationships (arranged and otherwise) in a way that just ticks my 'pure enjoyment' boxes. If I believed in guilty pleasures (I don't, because I feel no guilt over these pleasures), this would be one of them. Absolute indulgence that always brings a smile to my face. Which is to say: I adored everything about this book.

this and all future re-reads: if I believed in feeling guilty about pleasure, this would be a guilty pleasure for sure. instead, I'm just going to say that I unashamedly adore this series and it brings me great joy. (ha. just read my original review and I totally already said the guilty pleasure thing. this amuses me to no end.)

As this series was good I wish each book wasn't so predictable, maybe change the age of each MC2 or what a family member did to them . This last Book with Syros and Parker took longer to finish seemed all over the place.

Really?!

It was a Korean Netflix show in book form. Bad writing, terrible sex scenes. Fake feeling emotional scenes. Not a good read.

Ooof, honestly I'm sad I didn't enjoy this book as much as wanted to. This book was supposed to be a cliché trope - Love interest hurting the mc and realizes they took it too far then begins to try redeeming themselves while groveling and we eventually get an HEA. Simple and sweet right?

And yet for some reason reason I felt this book was a little off the mark. While the plot was a little interesting, the pacing was off and everything felt too scattered and too easy at the same time. We have so many unanswered questions through out the book, we know nothing about Syros or his family and background and why he was chosen for this arrangement, we never find out what Parker's dad was doing with the money for his tutors, we know literally next to nothing about Parker's mom and we don't even know how Brad was punished after everything he did.
On the other hand It didn't feel like the main characters worked all that much for anything bc anytime they had a problem some other character was there with a solution and boom problem solved, Parker plans to run away boom Kyue and Lucas to the rescue, Parker is being followed boom Jake is there with biodegradable tracking chips, Syros gets fired boom Syros becomes the president of Kyue's company.

Further more I didn't enjoy the progression of Syros and Parker's relationship. One minute Syros dislikes Parker, the next he feels bad about how he treated him and then boom they are dancing in the club then having sex and a chapter or two later saying they love each other? I'm pretty sure they dated for a whole 20 minutes.
It honestly didn't feel natural and I couldn't even be all too sad during the angsty parts or even that excited when they eventually got together. Not even the smut excited me (though thats a moot point bc I have a love/hate relationship with smut).

I wish we had gotten a bit of a medium burn and seen Syros truly apologize and grovel and work to be a man worthy of Parker. Like we deserved a whole lot more character development from him bjt we only scratched the surface

Also wish we'd gotten more of Parker's growth presented a bit realistically, it would have been so fun to see him be his own person without influences from his family or Syros. The man was abused for a majority of his life, almost sexually assaulted and his first love broke his heart then he runs away from all that and three months later he's a bad bitch with tattoos and dancing for his ex in the club?
Would've like a bit more insight on his healing instead of nothing at all like we got and I would have loved him to actually grow to love a new Syros who worked to deserve him and not just forgive and forget about everything so quickly.

I think the main reason I kept reading was solely bc I was interested in getting to the bottom of things since there was some shady issues surrounding Syros and Parker's arranged marriage but aside from that the book was meh.

I will say though the characters were relatively likeable, Parker, Kyue and Buffy were my faves and I'm definitely interested in Sam as well. I'll probably read the others stories as well, the jury is still out on that.

Overall the book was an easy, fun (if you ignore the club scene) and fast paced read, it just wasn't for me.

Parker Lane and Syros have an engagement which is like a merger as when they are married Syros will take over from Parker's father as the CEO of the family firm. However, Parker's father has been lying to Syros all along and it is only when Parker calls off the engagement and disappears that with the help of Parker's friend Buffy that Syros starts to work out how misled he has been and how badly he has treated Parker. Can they have the happy ending that they deserve?

I enjoyed this story with the evil father, the abused Parker and the man who would come to realise everything and earn back his trust. I did have a couple of problems with the book as there was no closure on what happened to Parker's father (just a list of charges) and I felt that Syros really didn't deserve to be loved given the way he had behaved before. Given that I did enjoy the story and the help and involvement of Miles, Kyue and Lucas from the previous books in the series. I also loved the way that Parker was so himself when he was dancing. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content and descriptions of off-book abuse of both a child and an adult.

I’m glad Parker was able to get away and that Syros finally found him but all the in between of them getting back together dragged on pretty bad. I also feel like once again this is classic insta love which is fine if I feel like these two even had time to fall in love. We go from Syros basically getting dumped and being sad to them dancing once and then they are in love.

I think one of the weirdest parts of this entire series was the lack of love. I started searching the phrase “I love you” in the books and many didn’t have even one instance of saying it. It was often third part like “I love Parker” but not saying it to them or just calling them “love”… which is weird as fuck for a romance novel. Overall I feel like this series started out strong and ended meh sadly. I’m still reading a ton by this author and hopefully the others are better.

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears.

Love this series!

I've been reading this series since it first came out and it led me to all of AJA Foxxs other books, which I love. These books are sooooo fun to read! I love Ms. Foxxes story telling. They are hard books to put down once you start reading them, especially this series. You go from wanting to smack the men upside the back of the head to rooting for them. I love how the characters from each book shows up somewhere in the current book. Oh and the sex seems are HOT, buy not overwhelming of the storyline. Please keep writing this series Ms. Foxxe! I recommend reading this series.

Great Happy Ever After

If you have hangups about abusive parenting and obsessive would be lovers who have no idea of the meaning of the word consent then this book is not for you. If however you enjoy a story where the main characters have to strive to overcome these sort of things and not just become survivors but thrivers then it definitely is for you. Of course the fact they had the right sort of friends backing them up also helped. Parker and Syros earned their happy ever after and that certainly made my heart light up too.

Read if you want

While reading the series gave me something to do this week, I didn’t overly enjoy them. The last two books were nearly identical. I mean all of them had the same trope but come on. Both were built up and the endings were rushed.

I liked the books for what they were. You can read them and easily overlook issues that I had with the series. I enjoyed the first three books of the series more.

Read this in one go, loved it!

I love this series but didn't actually intend to read this story I was only looking up the blurbs to see what the other stories were about and when I reached this one I got intrigued. The Blurb left me wondering so I started reading the sample and when I reached the end of the sample I immediately needed to continue. That led to me spending hours reading this. I was hooked!

When Syros and Parker entered a marriage agreement set up by their parents, Parker thought his life would be filled with abuse and control, similar to how he lived when at his parent's place. But he's through with that life and despite Parker having feelings for Syros, he runs. Syros comes to realize nothing about what he's been told about his betrothed is the truth, and when he does, he can't help but grow fond of Parker as well as want to protect him.

Despite the machinations of some evil people, Parker's father, Syros' ex, our heroes find their HEA. Good escapist fun, with previous characters in supporting roles. Unrealistic worldbuilding, but if you treat it like a CEO fantasy, it works. Adult cartoons.
Could have used a tighter edit. But it was a quick read. Fun, for the most part. Some angst and violence, with past abuse being mentioned.

Good book but rushed ending

This was a good story and had the bones to be a great story but the ending was too rushed and I felt a bit cheated. The whole book was building up to a massive climax and instead the end was rushed into one chapter that didn’t explain everything. I was loving the story and finished by being disappointed.

Prepare for a roller coaster

This author has a habit of shooting their characters in this series, and I'll be honest, for the first one-third of this book I was REALLY hoping someone would shoot Syros, but it turned out okay. He pulled his head out of his behind. I still kind of wish someone had shot him for being such a @#$% in the beginning, but I'm willing to let it go.

I actually love this series so much and they just keep getting better. Parker and Syros are my favourite book for sure. I didn’t think we could top Lucas and Kyue but we did. I do wish we got an epilogue and the book ended a bit abruptly but I still loved it. I really hope we’re getting more.

Good story...but

This book had good character development
and made you care about the main characters. Nice to see characters from the previous stories as well. The ending was too abrupt. Would have like an epilogue.
