This is genuinely the worst book I've read in years.
It made me smile a couple of times and some of it was a little funny, but Abbey Clancy in particular came across as incredibly privileged, annoying and out of touch.
For example, people could write in to 'Agony Ab', who would help them with their problems, and someone wrote in claiming that they were annoyed that her husband had started working out and was looking in the mirror too much and being 'vein'. Abbey's advice for this was to 'bring him down a notch and tell him he's a 6 not a 10'. This may have tried to be funny but it actually just seemed horrible.
The whole book was really sexist too. It went through an A to Z of couples and the intro for each letter was basically this: 'holidays should seem normal and fun - but with Pete it's never that easy', 'Shopping is a fun thing to do - unless Pete is your husband' or 'Give Pete a list and he'll come back with two items missing always'. It was basically saying that Abbey did everything and Pete was just a classic man who 'didn't know' how to do anything apart from play golf with the lads.
Abbey detailed how she can't justify buying a Gucci Bag, but was happy to spend it when it was off Pete's card.
All of it seemed so entitled and privileged, and it actually made me angry to read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Abbey and Peter take you through the A-Z of their life. This was a nice read, much similar to what their podcast is apparently like. However, I must say they both come across as extremely privileged and Peter comes across as incredibly sexist and dismissive of Abbey. I would’ve liked to hear a bit more about their struggles in life - surely they’ve had some?
A light, breezy, and fun read. It’s nothing serious and it isn’t meant to be. But anyone who has been in a long term relationship will get a laugh from this, and if you listen to their podcast then this book is sure to entertain.
Listened as I love their podcast, not to be taken seriously or to heart, some people are a little sensitive I think about some of the topics covered. If you listen to their podcast you know it’s 99% banter & tongue in cheek. Love them, loved this!
Y'know those sections in the Big Fat Quiz series where Charles Dance reads a snippet from the memoir of a vapid, self-centred celebrity? This would fit right in.
Abbey comes across as privileged to the point of being out-of-touch, selfish, rude and a bit of a sexist too. Peter, the famous sportsman, is surprisingly the relatable one.
Proudly proclaiming the family ethos of "YOLO" was the cherry on top.
Yes, the format (alphabet) is lazy and the idea of turning a podcast into a book deserves some raised eyebrows but... if you - just like me - haven't listened to the podcast regularly, love everything they come up with and also think humour is the most important aspect of a relationship, this is quite a satisfying and even enriching read.
Light enjoyable book of banter between the two authors . It is difficult to judge a book on the basis that it feels like someone has taken their podcast exchanges organised them into subject matter and then put the subjects in alphabetical order . I have not heard the podcast , but my guess is it is probably better than the book . Enjoyable nevertheless
I found out about the podcast quite late on, so I had plenty of episodes to catch up on. So I thought sod it, I'll just buy the book. It was very good, very well paced, very funny and very interesting i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. 4.5 stars from me.
Peter Crouch is hilarious with his one line come backs at Abbey, and his story telling. Abbey knows what she wants and she's getting it, you go girl! Loved this book, laughing out loud round the pool. They're a fantastic family and deserve everything they have
I loved this and the only reason I've given it 4 stars is because a lot of the book I've seen them talk about before on Tik Tok so it kinda ruined it for me. I think they're both hilarious and we can all find something in this!
Was probably very funny when they wrote it or if it was a natural conversation they were having, but as a book (audio) it felt like a script, still quite funny to listen too
This was actually sooo good! Honest and funny! I love these 2 together I feel like can I can relate to them loads with my partner but without the money of course 🤣
An easy read that can be easily dipped in and out of. Some very funny bits, however, some of the content has already been spoken about on their podcast before, so some bits are a little repetitive
