Can a curvy librarian tame a grumpy gargoyle?

When Angie unexpectedly inherits a bookstore from her grandmother, she is determined to make it a success. Unfortunately, the somewhat unusual inhabitants of Screaming Woods don’t take kindly to outsiders, and her dream is in danger of failing.

In a desperate attempt to make ends meet, she accepts a part-time job cataloging the library of the vast Gothic mansion on the edge of town. But the brooding gargoyle owner turns out to be even more fascinating than his collection.

After the unfortunate incident that turned Alastair into his present form, he retreated into his inherited mansion. He has his books and his studies, and he tells himself that he doesn’t long for anything more.

An unexpected encounter with the cheerful, curvy bookstore owner reminds him of everything he is missing. Even though he knows there’s no future for the two of them, he can’t resist the urge to have her close to him. After all, what does a monster like him have to offer her?

A sweet and spicy tale of a librarian and her beast!

**3.5/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

Angie has inherited her grandmother's bookstore located in Screaming Woods. since moving there, the store hasn't been successful as the townies seem to dislike and avoid her. One day, she decides to go for a walk in the woods and she meets Alastair, a man who became a gargoyle and who owns a manor nearby. If their first encounter doesn't end up on the right footing, both grow curious and interested about each other. Alastair needing to have her within eyesight starts to mildly stalk her and Angie feeling those eyes on her decides to entice the gargoyle to come closer.

Alastair was a shy cinnamon roll disguised as a grumpy male. I liked that he was inexperienced with women, having been changed into a monster before he'd grown more mature and confident. The only woman who'd shown interest in him in the past was a woman who tried to use him to boost her career, but Alastair discovered her plan before anything could happen between them. Her bad comments about his appearance gave a blow to his already low self-esteem, causing him to doubt he'd ever find someone who'd be attracted to him and love him.

“I’ll see you in the morning.” The heat in his eyes—and perhaps the remnants of the blackberry cordial—gave her courage. “But I’ll leave the curtains open, in case you want to watch the way you usually do.”-

As for Angie, she was a somewhat sweet and sassy young woman who knew what she wanted. I liked that she was bold, helping Alastair grow more confident and at ease with intimacy.

They had a decent chemistry overall, I just think the romance wasn't as intense as it could've been. I wasn't too comfortable with the third person perspective but that's probably on me, as I've been reading a lot of first person perspective books lately. Maybe it's why the romance wasn't as passionate in my eyes. I liked the pacing as well, both characters got used to each other's presence and it wasn't an instalove/instalust situation.

Would I recommend this novella? Not bad. I think someone could really enjoy this story by itself, without reading the other novellas in this series. The author's ideas merged well with this series' prompt but also was able to bring her own twist to the concept. Not sure how to explain it. Put simply, it could've been a book rather than a novella.

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

This story follows Angie, who just inherited her grandmothers library, and Alastair, a gargoyle who was changed during a Halloween accident.

Angie has a hard time keeping her grandmothers library afloat after everyone in town assumes she decided to abandon her grandmother after the change, not realizing her parents kept the truth from her for 15 years until she got the letter of her new ownership.

They are attracted to each other and when Alastair hears that she may not be around much longer due to others prejudice affecting the library, he offers her a job cataloging his research library.

Her dad is a jerk, I want to throat punch him.

Okay this one was cute and didn’t make me cringe 🖤 I adored grumpy Alastair and Angel was so sweet and nostalgic for her grandmother. So cute.

This story, as the author's name implies, is just...super sweet! It's got such a nice atmosphere as well, that I couldn't help but glomp (greedily chomp) through it!

We have the lovely Angel ("Angie") as our heroine, just newly moved to the town of Screaming Woods. She's trying to make a go of a small bookshop, except that she's got no customers three months in and the moolah is running low. By chance, she meets Alistair, who is, of course, our virgin gargoyle. Alistair pretty much falls hard for her, and then offers her a job to keep her close, never expecting that she'd ever actually be interested in a "monster" like him.

And so a romance is born in this novella! Not to long but not too short, this is just the right amount of everything, for a fall-flavoured romance!

I'll definitely be re-reading this, please and thank you very much, I just loved it overall!

This is another fab addition to this fun multi author series and I hope they keep coming ;D In this book, we get to meet Angie and Alistair. She's new to Screaming Woods and not well accepted. Alistair got changed into a gargoyle after that fateful Halloween punch and he's been rather reclusive ever since... When these two meet up, the sparks fly and the romance unfolds ;) It was a lighthearted read that I found highly enjoyable. Good fun!

Whoop! Another series done. It was sweet. Had the whole book and beast thing going on, which was a shame given that had already been done earlier in the series. I'm not buying the parental reunion. They let her believe her grandmother was dead for 15 years, no wonder the town avoided her. The only reason the father shut up was because Alistair was his boss, which was great.

Extra Virgin Gargoyle de Honey Phillips seríe Monster Between The Sheets

Argumento:

Me gustaron Alastair y Angie.

15 years ago Angie's world was changed with the news that her grandmother was dead.
However, she's only recently learned that her parents lied to her and kept her from spending all those years with her favorite person all because they feared what was different.
Now she's back in Screaming Woods running the bookstore she inherited from her grandmother But things aren't going as smoothly nor as welcoming as she would've thought.
To help make ends meet she takes a job to catalog a library not aware it's for the gargoyle she met previously and hasn't been able to get off her mind.
Alastair may be used to living in his mansion and be content with his life now in his new form, but when he meets Angie he can't help but realize just how much he's been missing out on. However, Alastair has been burned before by another human woman. How is he to know that Angie won't reject him or hurt him the same way?

I really liked Extra Virgin Gargoyle.
I will say I liked the twist of events that happened with Angie's father and Alastair.

May no one doubt that Honey Phillips can give you sweet and naughty as she serves with Extra Virgin Gargoyle. With a dash of voyeurism, a hint of primal nature, and a banquet of small-town cuteness, this is an easy and light read.

Phillips got me with the nerd living in a hulk’s body. Muscles and brain? Yes, I will take a heaping helping of that, please. I also enjoyed the FMC’s personality makeup and motivations. She’s a pleasant personality with some stuff to work through that is just enough to be interesting but nothing we cannot settle in the span of a novella. I admit to having taken some story-crafting notes.

This all being said, I probably would have enjoyed some more dimension to some of the story. Was there more for us to know about Angie’s grandmother? Did she turn into one of the monsters? What exactly does Alastair’s company…do? I cannot really fault Phillips for any of this. I’ve got a list of “nice-to-haves” which don’t top this story from being an enjoyable quickie.

Town full of monsters and the human lady who's trying to find her place among them. Angie's accepting enough of the supernatural inhabitants and wants her bookstore to thrive, but the town isn't quite as accepting of her. Which is super uncool because the thing they're blaming on her wasn't her fault at all.

But that's another story for down the road. While Angie might be struggling to make her bookstore turn a profit, she's trying to remain upbeat about it. Which is hard when she her customer base actively avoids her.

Which brings us to Alastair. While he also actively avoids pretty much everyone (not just Angie), he finds he just can't keep away from her after meeting her in the woods. One thing leads to another and soon she's cataloging his library and spending time with him. Which he liiiiikes.

A funky family dynamic, a town with a lot of character, a bookstore owner who likes what she sees, and a gargoyle who REALLY likes what he sees. GOOD STUFF!

not too bad

Events moved a bit too quickly for me, even for a novella. Unless I missed it, there wasn’t an explanation about a key piece that was part of how they met. I have so many questions. And the poor housekeeper was there just to move the plot along.

I loved the town and the pairing(even if the relationship moved way too fast).

3/5 🌶️ (how I rate spice is written in my profile).

This was a fun and a quick novella to read. I picked it up because of a TikTok on it by Lillian Lark, and it was a fun premise, but I felt like it was rushed and wished there was a little more to it.

This is an OK paranormal romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.

I did wish the story had been a little longer, to allow more time for character development. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Alastair and Angie.

My main issue with this story was that Alastair and Angie seemed more in lust than in love, especially at first. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't know each other well enough to be in love. I also thought the story should have spent more time on building the couple's relationship, and a little less on sex/lust.

I liked both Alastair and Angie, but Alastair was difficult to like at first. He was just so gruff and stern, but he got a lot better by the end of the story.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

This was a short and sweet read. There was insta-lust and I found myself finishing the book in one sitting. Alastair’s backstory could have been more fleshed out, I felt like there was a lot skimmed over.

Things I liked:
-there wasn’t much angst outside of Angie’s relationship with her parents.
-Angie was immediately attracted to Alastair and was able to sense his arrogance was a protective measure. She came across very emotionally intelligent and empathetic.
-Alastair’s “member” was memorable
-Alastair could recognize the benefits of his monster evolution
-flying spicy scene
-it was a quick and instant gratification read.
-curvy protagonist where it is celebrated vs an insecurity

Things I disliked:
-Angie’s shop is struggling and I couldn’t understand why didn’t Alastair ask his monster friends to help out Angie sooner? Or why didn’t he frequent there to show his support?
-I would’ve loved to see more of Alastair’s emotional evolution to accept the changes in himself and more emphasis on his virginity. It’s got virginity in the name but it kind of skims over this.
-it wasn’t clear what Alastair did for work. He’s a ceo and owner of a company but also maybe a chemist?
-I would’ve loved for this to be a longer read because I found myself wanting to know so much more about the characters

I would read this book again, but probably not multiple times. It’s worth the read especially if you have a few hours free and you want a quick enjoyable book.

4&1\2 terrific monster 🌟's for Extra Virgin Gargoyle💖💖🔥🔥

This was the perfect sweet and spicy story that I love to read before bed. The perfect time of year for a monster treat! Alastair is a gargoyle and is the CEO for a very profitable business. He's a resident of screaming hollow a town that many year before had some sort of magic incident that turned the majority of the residents into magical monsters. He's been very unlucky in love because not many of any want to claim a monster as a mate . He has resigned himself to lifeless money life that is until he catches an Angel. Angel (Angie) loved coming to Screaming Hallow when she was a child. She loved the town , the book shop and most of all her grandmother. When she was 12 her parents told her that her grandmother died. This was a lie and it didn't come to light until a lawyer called to tell her she inherited everything her grandmother had when she actually died. Betrayed hurt and angry she leaves home and goes back to the place she loved as a child to start new and rebuild her life. A life that comes to include a gorgeous gargoyle 💖💖🔥🔥 This short story packs a life into its pages. A bit of world building, a dash of well written characters and just enough slice to make this the perfect holiday bite. Honey Phillips just doesn't disappoint! 💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥

I liked this novella, I was afraid that Alastair would be a standoffish grump in this Beauty and the Beast inspired tale but thankfully both characters were likeable ;)
Angie inherited a book store from her grandmother who recently passed away. Her parents told her that she passed fifteen years earlier, when an accident in a small town of Screamer Woods turned a lot of its inhabitants into monsters and other supernatural creatures. The whole town thought that Angie stopped visiting her grandmother, because of her bigotry towards the supernatural community, so the book store wasn't making any sales. She was relieved when a new temporary job opportunity arrived, and was pleasantly surprised that the job was for the handsome, but stiff gargoyle she had met in the woods.
The story was cute, even Alastair's stalkerish tendencies weren't creepy, but sweet with how he needed to see her safe in her bed every night ;) I liked how their fight didn't evolve into a third act breakup and they both apologized the same day. The only thing that pissed me off was that Angie reconciled with her parents, I would give the mother a chance, but it would take a long time to be as close as they seemed.
Oh, and where was Alastair's tail? Gargoyles have tails. We were robbed of the tail action! ;)

Honey is always thick and Sweet

Honey Phillips male characters always lay their alpha-ness on thick but with an overlay of sweetness that just perfectly aligns with heroine and the plot. This book is no exception! It’s a great read that makes me not want to put it down until the end. Angie and Alastair were a sweet
And sexy couple. The lonely gargoyle that believed he was too monstrous for any woman to want to be with him all because of a gold digger named Tonya. Angie the heroine that embraced her differentness and wanted to start something new with her grandmother’s book shop. I like the townsfolk of Screaming Woods and how they added to the richness of the story. This is a book I would reread because it has so many layers and it’s a great sweet, sensual, and lush love story. The sex scenes are awesome. I love the way Honey Phillips can take a gargoyle, a minotaur, or sea creature and create a sex scene that passionate and believable.
