Reading this book at the same time I was in Yosemite National Park made the experience real. The author describes the women who were involved in preserving the park and the areas around it. You don't hear much about the women in the park just the men. This book was an eye opener. The Indians of the area had a history which is revealed in the book, along with the early women settlers. One was Mrs.John Muir, another was Clare Hodges, who was the first woman park ranger. The first women to climb Half Dome were Sally Dutcher and Elizabeth Pershing, in the 1870's. Perfect references to the details of their time in the park made this a very enjoyable read.

The history of Yosemite National Park is told through the lives and accomplishments of several women of different ethnicities. The book is well written and easy to read. A real motivator for girls. This was a free review copy through Goodreads.com.
