(Declaration: I was the acquisitions editor on this book)

This book is a complete getting started guide to game development for complete beginners. I read it because I had to. I was editing the first few chapters, checking that the author (Jason) was writing to the house style, and to see if I could help him in teaching the subject more effectively. To my delight I found that I could understand everything he'd written even though I haven't coded for years. Having come to game development from a 3D/Design background, I was delighted to find that finally I had a book in my hands that could teach me from the ground up.

To cut a long story short, this book should be your starting point if you wish to create games for app stores or online, especially facebook games. It takes the subject from the ground up, and even goes so far as showing you how to host and monetize your game. I'm, giving it 5.9 stars, rounded down to the nearest integer!
