Founded in the twentieth century by the late spiritual teacher Ra Uru Hu, Human Design is often called the "new Astrology," and the "intersection of science and spirituality." Your Human Design chart is formulated by taking your birth date, time, and location and extrapolating specific personality traits and life paths from this convergence. A Human Design chart offers an astonishingly accurate guide to your personality, as well as direction and counsel on how each individual can deal with challenges in their life.
Previously, Human Design charts have been notoriously difficult to interpret and decipher, usually taking a dedicated expert to read and translate them into plain English. At least, that used to be the case--until now.
In "Understanding Human Design: The Science of Discovering Who You Really Are," author Karen Curry walks you through the sometimes complex and intimidating Human Design chart with simple, direct language. You will learn about each level of Human Design, from the most basic elements of the chart to the deeper, more nuanced insights Human Design offers, all in an approachable and interesting way. Understand how every line, intersection, and symbol correlates to a personality trait that can directly affect your life with an experienced guide by your side.
Your personal Human Design Chart can reveal your strengths, your weaknesses, and perhaps most importantly, your potential. Prepare for repetitive difficulties that you might encounter throughout your life, and embrace the opportunity to grow as you understand your personal Human Design strategy. With author Karen Curry's assistance and knowledge, you have a path to overcome these difficulties simply by following the directions set out in your Human Design chart, the "owner's manual" to your life.
Someone I respect, who clearly gets a lot from the ideas, recommended this book to me. But I'm having a hard time seeing why. I've taken long walks on Alternate Alley before I became a full time fiction writer. (And even while I was thinking about being one.). I've been a therapist and--as a a side note--became certified to teach the Enneagram. (Another long story with cautionary notes.) I've read The Severn Ray series by Alice Bailey. I throw the I Ching. I used to be a psychic reader. I've studied the Tarot. So I have a lot of tolerance and patience for sifting through material to look for things that I can relate to. Having said this, I find Understanding Human Design to be one of the least well-written and least well-organized of the many such books I've read. Unlike Helen Palmer's first Enneagram book, it doesn't leave the reader much room to meditate on the ideas or fill in the blanks. Unlike the Seven Ray series, by Alice Bailey, it doesn't try to be close to the real or imagined source (Bailey was supposedly channeling a Tibetan master)--a technique that gives the reader room to believe or not to believe. Instead, this is a book of a believer who doesn't know how to talk to the uninformed ( like Palmer) or manifest the source of the cauldron (like Bailey.) And, in the tradition of so many ardent believers, she tends to preach. The book begs for an index-or at least (as in Palmer's first book) clear charts. The best part was finding out that me and Bob Dylan have a lot in common.

It’s hard to find much about Human Design, because it’s sich a new thing and not popular.
The book in general isn’t bad, it gives a good basic introduction. But it could go more in-depth.
I would have rated it 3 stars, BUT what really makes me mad and why I’m rating it 1 star is the fact that I bought her shorter introduction ebook about Human Design first. I wasn’t that thrilled about it, it was very very basic for ~5€. Then I bought this book in hope of learning something more in-depth about it and I wanted to give her another chance, but nope. There are only a few more topics AND she basically uses her whole shorter ebook in this book here ... I didn’t compare everything and it’s months since I read both, but some parts were the same, word for word!
I don’t know if she wrote the book first and picked the pages out for the ebook or if she wrote the ebook first and just put it for convenience into this book? ...
I wish there would have been a note for the ebook that it’s taken out of the book or something. There was no indication whatsoever. From the descriptions it makes the appearance that they’re both totally different, which they’re not.
I didn't read the whole book but just skimmed to the section that was most relevant for me. Here are my favorite passages from the 'Projector' section:
When you understand yourself, you can make choices about your life that are in alignment with your true nature.
it—if we're all different, a one-size-fits-all approach to creating a happy, successful life doesn't make sense.
Projectors who do not wait will not experience success. They do not have the energetic configuration to just go do things and “make things happen,” as many will tell them.
A Projector who waits to be asked, recognized, or invited has an enormous amount of wisdom to share with the world. They can feel the energy of others in a deep way.
A Projector living his strategy is magnetic and attractive. People won't be able to stop recognizing and inviting the patient Projector. It is planetary geometry.
A Projector, by nature, will have a slower journey. But it is their own journey, and following their own path will give them sustainable energy and the recognition that will make their soul sing. Projectors are here to be wise about others. But their insight about other people sometimes leaves them blind to themselves and their own needs. They do not have the same capacity to know themselves the way a Generator does. Consequently, they need help seeing when they are overdoing it.
Projectors may find that they need to nap during the day. They also need to rest before they can fall asleep.
Projectors must not initiate. They truly need others to help them gain access to opportunities and energy. A Projector is not weak or lazy if they don't initiate action; they simply need the energy of others to help them get started.
If you have second line energy, you experience a kind of energy vortex that draws others to you if you hide yourself too well. When you hide away, people will find you and recognize you. It is the perfect energy for Generators and Projectors.
As a hermit, the ideal relationship is with a partner who needs as much alone time as you and doesn't take your need for solitude personally.
A quiet evening with both of you reading different books on the couch might feel like the perfect date night.
In its highest expression, you wait to be called out into the right experiences and you take time to regenerate and renew yourself.
There can be a certain platonic quality to your energy, which can be frustrating sometimes because your potential partners don't always realize that you are romantically interested. They think you're just good friends.

Human Design: How to Discover the Real You HUMAN DESIGN: HOW TO DISCOVER THE REAL YOU Psychologists the world over would say that millions of people pass through life without ever realizing what comprises their true self. If you are a Projector, there is no doubt you have abilities and gifts in your own right, but your true nature requires them to be recognized first if you are to shine, and this awareness is essential for your personal fulfilment. You must learn to enjoy the lulls in life and embrace the part of your nature which makes you more spectator than chief player. You are born guides and managers, and make ideal leaders, organizers, coaches and administrators, overseeing everything. You come into your own when steering, shaping and driving the people and energy around you. The truth is that some people don’t know how to use their energy without your objective assistance. This doesn’t mean you can’t get drawn into the thick of the action yourself, but for that action to be fulfilling you first require recognition in the form of an invitation. It can even be an inner sense that you are being drawn towards something, like a calling. As a Projector, you’ll be able to identify with an inner pressure to be recognized for your gifts and abilities. if I were the CEO of a company, I would want my Projectors heading up the planning and management departments As a Projector, what you achieve in life tends to depend on allowing yourself to be drawn into the right company and right environment. When your gifts and abilities are truly recognized, you’ll feel empowered. Recognition means everything – and brings out your best. You are extremely shy and retiring one minute then bold and outspoken the next, interacting with the world in a bright and breezy manner then disappearing behind a closed door into a self – made ‘cave’. It is hard to pin down your moods from one moment to the next. I’d detect a natural easy – going warmth and a big heart. You would listen intently to my responses, not because you’d be interested in me but because you’d want to learn something about yourself from my observations. Life is your eternal university and all interactions form the basis of your teachings, inspiration and guidance.
Human Design is for those who are into woo-woo. I’m only a beginner and just heard about Human Design a couple weeks ago. I got curious. When I first got my chart, I could tell this was going to get complicated quickly, but Karen Curry makes it very easy to understand for newbies. While I still need to pull the pieces together (and trust me, there are MANY pieces!), it’s eerie accurate. Then again maybe it’s confirmation bias. However, I think it’s a helpful lens to look at things.
There were a few parts of this book that were incredibly valuable and easy to "use." Specifically the sections on the types and the centers. Personally I don't totally understand the gates, channels, and circuits, and this book did not help in any way. So that was disappointing. Plus the book didn't talk about certain elements at all, such as digestion and environments. But overall this was a very good introduction to the primary elements of human design. I imagine I'll return to it often.
I didn’t care for this book. It romanticizes human design and barely skims the surface. But my least favorite part is that she changes the keynotes which carry a certain frequency that came from source.
Awesome book! I love personality related literature and this was superb. All you need to have a chart is your birth date and time of birth and you can generate a free chart online. There are also some youtube videos that explain the types which are worth checking out. What I liked about this book was the great number of factors and traits/characteristics/tendencies that make up the "human design." Whereas other methods are a bit more simplistic (you are one of 12 signs or one of 16 types) this book highlighted dozens and dozens of factors that go into someone's personality and highlighted the interactions between these traits. This book is kind of a user manual for reading the diagram generated on the website and I personally thought it was super fun. Would recommend to identity-searchers.
A great introductory book to Human Design. I finally know how to read my HD Chart. I like that she kept the descriptions of the gates and channels precise and straight to the point.
The conclusion was beautifully written:
"Do not ask what the world needs, rather ask what makes you come alive, then go out and do it because what the world needs is people who have come alive." Howard Thurman
Edit: Read Chetan Parkyn's book and it's 3x better. He explained the gates and channels better, and Curry was bit vague in her descriptions that it didn't land for me. So, I edited my rating.
This was the first book I read about Human Design after having already explored a number of blogs and podcasts. I already knew probably 80% of this content and the remaining 20% was too generalized to make sense of such a complex system. Now I'm reading Bunnell's book and my questions are getting answered.
"Understanding Human Design" is a good book despite being a bit underwhelming. I was hyped to learn about Human Design to get a new outlook on myself and how to align my life more to who I really am. However I found out most concepts were pretty vague which makes them difficult to apply in real life and to know how the traits show up in myself. I didn't get my compass as I thought I would.
Also, the authour repeats time and time again that to live according your type and use your strategy is the way to make your life better... Alright, but why is Human Design so complex if it all boils down to these two specific things? I didn't understand how to make a good use of the other knowledge in the book actually. I would like to have read more about the Incarnation Cross as well.
However it's still indeed a good book because the basics were well-written and the author broke down the concepts in a organized way. I was going to rate it 3 stars but there's one amazing thing in this book that deserved 4 stars: "The Gates" section. It was filled with detailed explanations, affirmations and writing assignments that I intend to do. The affirmations and writing assignments seem to be very deep and well-thought and I'm glad I read this book because of them. There are some encouraging and endearing quotes throughout the chapters that made me happy too.
Astrology is still my main woo-woo baby but if you're into expanding your knowledge about your identity, reading "Understanding Human Design" is a good choice for the basics!
I found this guide book to be a useful guidebook with adequate information to help anyone who is interested in wanting to better understand themselves and why they do the things they do.
I started getting into the Human Design a few days ago from TikTok and have read this entire 314 page book in two days.
Granted, this is due to my high motivation in trying to better understand myself in all levels of life; physically, mentally, and spiritually. I also am interested in astrology with the zodiac signs and their houses, which made picking up this different take of human life much easier to comprehend.
I think reading this guidebook and learning about your human traits can put you at ease due to the understanding of how to “properly” operate your body’s vessel so you can live a better experience of life.
I found it exciting to learn about myself and my family members while analyzing their charts and becoming self aware of how to properly cooperate with these different types of individuals for a more harmonious environment.
The only reason I wouldn’t rate it 5/5 was because I wished it went into more depth and some of the authors beliefs were sometimes off to me for some reason. Not sure how to explain it properly, but I thought it was very well organized and properly informed for the reader. It included pictures of example charts to compare and analyze throughout the book as well.
I have known about Human Design for a couple of decades now, and bought this Kindle book years ago and just got around to reading it thoroughly. It's unfortunate this is no longer available as I really got a lot out of this book. True, you can find bits and pieces all over the internet about this system, but I did feel like this book is a comprehensive beginner overview that is well done. I hope the author/publisher considers putting back "in print" at some point, and it would be awesome to see future books on how to do this technique with relationships and with what astrology would call "transits."
I thought I understood my human design from diving into Chetan Parkyn’s book a few years ago, but this book gave me a solid refresher and a slightly different perspective on it. It ended up feeling just as magical as the first time this was all introduced to me.
To me, the cool thing about understanding your human design is realizing that all the weird things about you are features, not bugs. You can stop trying to change them, because when you accept them and work with them, they can actually be your super powers.
I was disappointed that this book doesn’t include the profiles. That’s the part I’ve found most eye-opening. But overall, a good book and worth a read.
Yes this is woo-woo stuff. But for me it has proven more insightful than the wonderlic or the DISC for hiring, which I also use. It is strangely accurate. Loved the insights human design brings into understanding others and myself. It has helped me get some solid hires into my business and to understand my challenging relationships better and others’ individuality better.
It’s a great book because it was the first time I was studying Human design after hearing about it (I’ve been studying astrology before this ) and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding for a beginner. The only thing is that it’s pretty labor intensive- you have to do a bunch of exercises to get the full benefits of the book. I still haven’t done most of these so I have some work to do.
I purchased this book to help me understand myself. In a nutshell I received confirmation of my life path and what I’m meant to do on this earth. It was a pleasant read and lots of information was given with journal prompts to get you to shift your energy.
I can say that the book is okay. Although I would say that the book had a lot of information about human design. I’d say it missed the mark on how to navigate the true essence of human design. Granted, when it had came out. It was fairly new. Now there’s so much information out there, that would say is better. Definitely take a read if you’re a beginner and is just starting out.
This book is incr3dible if you are new to HD this is a great start and if you have already studied- well like me you probably love all books HD and this is incredible a must read
Having no experience with the Human Design aspect of Astrology, this was a great 1st read on the subject. Very accurate as to my centers and motivations. I'm checking out the workbook next to deepen my understanding.
I was looking for a book to better understand Human Design and how to read the body graph. This book is a good basic introduction but doesn't teach you how to read the body graph at all. I felt most of the information was repetitive and the examples weren't really good.
3-4 stars. It’s a great BASIC introduction but lacks the depth that I was looking for. That being said, she breaks down a complicated system in a cohesive and easy to follow way.
