The Routledge Intermediate Polish Reader

Rate this book
The Routledge Polish Graded Reader is a comprehensive reader aimed at intermediate level Polish students. The aim is to provide a structured language teaching resource that is enjoyable and stimulating for learners, but that also provides meaningful cultural contexts.

The content of the book will be made up of twenty graded readings. Readings will be graded on the basis of complexity of vocabulary, grammar and syntax. The reader will include a spectrum of texts which give a good representation of modern Polish writing including extracts from modern literature, and newspaper and magazine articles.

The reader will be used as a resource for comprehension, reading and vocabulary extension, and the texts will be suitable for translation exercises, as well as stimulus for extended writing or discussion.

Each text will have a short introduction, giving the background of the text and a short author biography if relevant. The texts will be followed by a glossary and grammar explanations of any constructions that appear in the texts that may be complex or difficult for the intermediate level learner. The texts will be followed by some questions and exercises relevant to the text.

While the emphasis will be on vocabulary learning and text comprehension, a wider objective will be to bring the students closer to Poland its language, society, politics, culture, and history. Thus the book will be designed not only to enrich the students vocabulary and improve their reading proficiency but to encourage them to reach for authentic Polish texts, both literary and those from the press and the internet.
