SPANISH In an age when ministry success is often measured by church growth statistics and name recognition, Jesus is calling us to once again return to the simplicity of serving Him because it's personal for us, too.
Bob Sorge is “the speaker who can’t talk”—that is, he is reduced to a whisper because of a debilitating vocal injury he suffered over 20 years ago. Through the journey, God has given him an empowering message that explores God’s purposes in fiery trials. It’s not the fire that changes you but your pursuit of God in the fire that changes you. Bob has a unique way of helping us process our journey so we stay in the race and overcome. Whether you’re reading one of his books or listening to him, you’re about to receive a message from the heart of God that will strengthen your faith and draw you into greater intimacy with Jesus.
Espectacular.
The Christian life is supposed to be one of relationship. It becomes a business when we become more focused on the Church (Bride) and what we can get from it, than what we put in to cultivating the relationship with Jesus, the Bridegroom. Using the Scripture in the Gospel of John where he refers to himself as the friend of the Bridegroom, Sorge teaches how we should have the same mindset and focus. I have yet to read any of his books that I've not liked. I love a quote on the front cover: Jesus died for a Bride, not an enterprise. This thin books packs in a lot of meat challenging mindsets. Every chapter gave me something to pray about and seek how I can be drawn in further into relationship.
I enjoyed this book, but not 100%. I could've done without the hyper emotional driven writing that I felt stuck out in the book, especially in the beginning. I do love how the relationship between John the Baptist (friend of the bridegroom), the Church (the bride), and Jesus (the bridegroom) were explained. I do feel that brought more understanding to not only John, but also to those that are in ministry and their relationship with the church. Another concept that was very appreciated, was the "spiritual eunuchs" idea/analogy that Bob Sorge goes into; very enlightening.
A lot of good things, but I could use a little less fluff with his word choice that I associate with charismatics. Not a hit on those that go to charismatic churches, just not my cup of tea.
This may be a book with few pages than the average, but each page has been written with thought about the Bridegroom. I truly appreciate how Bob Sorge has brought to the forefront the Friend of the Bridegroom and how he challenges us in asking us if we are being friends of the Bridegroom, or are we enjoying the attention of the Bride. If we truly are to be friends of the Bridegroom (Jesus) then we will recognise what is Personal to Jesus, being the attentions of His Bride and how we are so adept at pleasuring too much in her attentions. It's all about Him, and when we are truly His Friend, His delight over us and on us is an amazing thing!
An incredibly timely reminder of what our motivations should be when leading His people. How wonderful that God still speaks through His people to guide us back to what's important - a relationship with Him. Can't recommend this book enough...it's not a very big book, but don't let fool you...this is full of spiritual wisdom that applies to you no matter where you are in ministry.
A great book! I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about and understand the church. I've learned more about why you should be in ministry and how it's ALL personal. Diminishment is key, and sometimes it's to make it personal from you to God. It's also very quotable.
I will defiantly be rereading this book in years to come.
I wrestled a bit with the amount of prophetic symbolism Bob used in this book, but His overall emphasis deserves five stars. The line between ministry and business has been terribly blurred in our day and we are paying a steep price as a result.
Excelente libro!!!
