Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name. See this thread for more information.

New York Times Bestselling author, Leslie Kelly writes sexy romances and dark romantic thrillers. A four-time RWA RITA Award nominee, eleven-time Romantic Times Award nominee and 2006 RT Award winner, Leslie has become known for her delightful characters, sparkling dialogue, and outrageous humor in her romances, and for the dark grittiness of her thrillers. Since the publication of her first book in 1999, Leslie has gone on to pen more than forty sassy, sexy romances for Harlequin Temptation, Blaze, and HQN.

In 2009, Leslie began tapping into her love for dark suspense by penning several books under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish. The Black CATs and Extrasensory Agents series quickly put Leslie on the must-read list of romantic-suspense fans.

Tired of writing under various names, Leslie decided to go into her next genre--futuristic thrillers with a suspense element--under her real name. She released her dark, gritty Veronica Sloan books, and reissued the Black CATs series, as Leslie A. Kelly.

Leslie lives in Denver with her husband Bruce--her real-life romance hero. Visit her online at lesliekelly.com (for her sexy romances) or at leslieAkelly.com (for her romantic suspense.)

Ex-Detroit Cop turned Small-Town Sheriff Daniel Fletcher sparks on single Nice Girl Church Secretary Sophie Winchester

NOTE TO SELF: Never name a main character "Sophia" or "Sophie", there are too many in romance fiction already!

and she on him - only he doesn't know her Dark Secret, of being the writer of graphically violent and popular horror thrillers under the pseudonym "R.J. Colt"!

Don't Worry - J.D. Robb, Richard Bachmann and A.A. Fair Are Sure Nobody Will Ever Find Out Who You REALLY Are...! ;)

When he discovers a notebook full of details about horrible murders, he assumes (somehow) that Sophie is the victim - and Sophie, determined that nobody in the small town they live in know she's secretly writing these novels (small towns=terribly gossipy people, don'cha know?), doesn't tell him it's research for her latest book!

Time To Pass The Idiot Ball....

So he insinuates himself into her life to "protect" her, and since he's fairly young and good-looking, and they shared an insanely passionate kiss after discovering they frequent the same gym in a nearby town,

she lets him - all the while trying to figure out how to extricate herself from this mess in a way that doesn't involve Just Telling Him the Truth! (She's the granddaughter and niece of his predecessors as Sheriff - and she thought he would ignore this? Or for some strange reason, he wouldn't understand?)

For all that, Sophie and Daniel are appealing characters - the small-town girl who loves her life there, but needs a release which she gets in her fictional alter ego; and the ex-Big City cop who comes to love not just the woman but her world as well, both sides of it. (It helps that he's a fan of R.J. Colt's books - he thinks the writer "gets cops right"!) When they finally start to act like a couple rather than a Protector Cop and Protectee, their love scenes are fun and steamy, as you'd expect them to be.

The small-town setting was believable enough that I was gasping to be let out - I was born in a town like the one they're in, and honestly I've lived in cities since I was old enough to have a choice in the matter! (Still don't get why anybody would like living in a place like that, but that's just me, I guess....)

RUN! While You Still CAAAANNNNNN...!

What a cute romantic story. It is not complicated or danger-filled. It is just a nice story that is great for a long plane trip and airports. Imagine a cute Church secretary in a small town who is isecretly a famous murder mystery writer. Add in a new police chief who thinks there is something different about her. Throw in a lost murder manuscript with her as the target and there is the story. I like how Leslie Kelly writes. She is also not shy with the steaminess.

It was a really cute short story. Would have been much better if it had been longer and more towards a novel.
