Re-read #infinity: Nah this book is FIRE. Probably my best comfort read. This book is god awful, so many issues, but nobody else can say that. Only me. It's a hot mess, but it's mine.
Full disclosure: totally bought this book on a whim after reading one quote I saw on Instagram like a year ago 🚨
Another full disclosure: I have a feeling this book is self published or just printed straight from Wattpad. The amount of grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and structural mistakes is kind of overwhelming. For example not once do they contract the words “they are” into “they’re” or “I will not” into “I won’t.” And stuff like that bothers me because I think it takes away from the flow of the writing. That being said… if you think you can handle stuff like that without being bothered then I think this book is definitely worth the read. Also, the paperback/printed version of the book doesn’t have page numbers fyi and the font is EXTREMELY small, turning six hundred pages into nine hundred pages, easily.
Okay, all that being said, I really did enjoy this book. The nicknames. The bickering. The banter. The “he falls first and harder trope.” The possessiveness from Stone. The jealousy. The story. The friendships. Ugh. I think the book was *chefs kiss.* I will say that the 3/4 breakup was super unnecessary and the way Ella was trying to push away from stone for the last 60 pages of the book was honestly unmotivated and borderline ridiculous. I feel like all of her insecurities about whether she was good enough for anyone kinda came out of no where.
Both Ella and stone were super good characters, I had no problem reading from Ella’s point of view the whole time, I think her inner monologues are so entertaining and interesting. Seeing her resist stone at first and then fall in love with him was so so so cute and I think the author did a good job at making her side of the relationship super natural. Her green hair and eccentric personality made this book super fun and not boring to read which is awesome, because 600 pages can be a lot sometimes. She definitely kept the story fresh with her theories and cute outlooks on life. Her story regarding her mom who committed suicide and her father who was a drunk Alcoholic was super sad and made me pretty emotional ngl. Her situation required for Ella to grow up too fast and I think the situation was handled pretty well.
Stone was a great character, he was essentially an animal. So if you like that whole huge dude, growls at anyone who comes near you, super protective, possessive, jealous, clingy, motorcycle riding mechanic who will do anything and destroy anyone for the fmc… then this is definitely your man. He is the quiet brute with a dark past, who only loves one thing in the whole world, which is our fmc, Ella. The way that this man was described through Ella’s eyes was immaculate so I don’t think I could even remotely handle a chapter from his point of view because that would lowkey make him better. Aside from the fact that this guy is 21 and in high school, which was never fully explained , it was just mentioned and then brushed over, his character made a lot of sense. And I use that term very loosely because he was essentially an intelligent caveman from the 21st century. Overall, i liked his character but someone mentioned the other day on my TikTok feed how the “touch her and I’ll kill you” trope doesn’t really work for books in which the main characters are in high school and I’m gonna have to agree. I was kinda like: calm down bro SHES 19.
All in all, I think this was a super cute book. Gave off major lilah vibes, but if lilah liked to keep a few insults in her back pocket and had fairytale green hair, and if grey dialed up the caveman behavior by like 50% and was down to marry lilah from pretty much the second he met her. Obbsessed I say!!
