Gilbert R. Lavoie, M.D., invites you on a fascinating adventure to examine the Shroud of Turin, juxtaposing his scientific findings with John’s Gospel account of the death and resurrection of Jesus. This story of the life of Jesus comes alive through relatable, real-world scientific witnesses who explore whether the image on the shroud is the work of human hands, a natural phenomenon, or a supernatural event. There are abundant photos that allow you to decide for yourself what the image and blood marks of this cloth reveal. As you explore the mystery of this shroud through the eyes of forensics and the lens of scripture, you will begin to discover the following, and much Dr. Lavoie conducts his own studies to determine how blood transferred from a crucified body to cloth. He applies his experience in treating trauma patients and observing the appearance of corpses in autopsy rooms to unveil intriguing insights about the image and blood on the shroud. And he details other experts’ hands-on observations of the shroud at microscopic, biological, and chemical levels and shows how they attest to its authenticity. This book is a visual journey that opens the door to new insights into the Gospel of John. It is only through John’s witness of the life of Jesus that we can come to a more complete appreciation of the Shroud of Jesus.
This book provides compelling proof that: a) the blood imprints on the Shroud were made separately and before the image of Our Lord's Body; b) the Shroud was wrapped over the Body when the blood imprints were made whereas the Shroud was upright when the image of the Body was made; c) Our Lord was lying down when the blood imprints were made whereas He was upright and lifted above the ground when the image of His Body was made on the Shroud. This evidence points directly to the Resurrection of Our Lord and so is remarkable. That being said, I am not so sure about Lavoie's arguments for the position of Our Lord's Body on the Cross and I regret that he seems to know nothing about Zugibe's work.
The Shroud of Turin is the most studied artifact in possession of man. For those who do not know what The Shroud is or why it is so important, it is a piece of cloth that has a crucified man imprinted into the very fabric. Even today scientists from multiple disciplines are stifled by how the image was imprinted on the burial shroud. The Shroud is fascinating. You can’t help but stand in awe of it. The study of The Shroud is a deep dive. A jump I encourage everyone to take! The debate is over course is this Jesus Christ? The images of the shroud shows a man brutally beaten and crucified. The wounds are consistent with the gospels especially the gospel of John (yes even the crown of thorns and piercing of a spear). Many have dedicated their lives to this investigation and are still wrestling with the facts cemented within the shroud.
The Shroud of Jesus is written by Dr. Gilbert Lavoie who gave his life to Christ after he became convinced that the only explanation of the imprinting of The Shroud took place at the moment Jesus was resurrected. His book focuses on the blood and the physical injuries of the man in the shroud. He walks the reader through all his tests and experiments carefully and provides pictures of each one. The most notable conclusion of his studies was that the image shows an upright man not a supine man. Fascinating! How can this be!? Well my friends this is a question of faith. Was this Jesus last miracle? Rising from the dead? Dr. Lavoie makes a strong case that indeed, HE IS RISEN. As a Christian myself it is not hard to believe that the man in the shroud could be Jesus. At the very least The Shroud gives us a picture of what Jesus went through to show His love for us by dying on the cross for our sins that we may be with Him for eternity. Thank you Lord!
I read a book on The Shroud of Turin many years ago. At that time I believed it was the true shroud of Jesus Christ. The amazing thing to me was the image looks exactly like I had always pictured Jesus to look like.
This new book by Dr. Lavoie goes into greater detail concerning the physical details of the shroud that point to Jesus, e.g., the blood marks being where they are, what would cause them, etc. Dr. Lavoie also compares the Gospel of John to the shroud. He points out various interesting points regarding the words of John. I appreciated the beautiful statue created by Pablo Eduardo. I would love to see it in person.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know if The Shroud of Turin is truly Jesus’ shroud.
This is a good book for someone who has doubts about the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin being the burial cloth of Jesus. The author uses historic, and biblical evidence, combined with his own forensic experiments on the shroud, to debunk claims that the Shroud is merely a forgery. While the author lets the reader decide what to believe, it does make a compelling case that the shroud is the original burial cloth of Jesus Christ.
I found “The Shroud of Jesus and The Sign (the Apostle) John Ingeniously Concealed” to be a Thorough, well researched and well written book. There are numerous photos, most of which are explained as the author explains the different aspects of the burial shroud of Jesus Christ. I was already convinced that the Shroud was genuine, this book made me even more confident that the Shroud of Turin IS the burial shroud of Jesus Christ.
In all previous views of the Shroud, I though I was looking at a supine figure of Jesus the way he was laid in the tomb. However, after learning about the forensics of a body lying supine as compared to a body being vertical, I could easily understand that Jesus is rising in the Shroud.
Interesting book and many thought provoking things addressed. If you need a book to help you in your faith journey this is for sure it. More credible and accurate to today’s science than past books about the shroud.
The title of this farce conceals that the author is rather uninformed on the dates of the New Testament gospel fictions.
The Gospel of John is the last Gospel to be written.
Not a synoptic text, the narrative was written ca. 90 to 110 A.D. The unknown author of this Gospel had not even been born during the time of Jesus, so it is doubtful that she/he would have had added any sign to the burial event of Jesus.
But I digress ...
The book is one of the best sources on fringe theories in the pseudo-science and pseudo-history promoting the adolescent-level obsession with Shroud authenticity.
The book offers no legitimate historical sources, no valid scientific evidence of 1st century origins, only an impoverished need to degrade the beauty of 14th century art to a 1st century burial shroud that never existed (I Corinthians 15:44).
The only hidden message here is the agenda to disguise Gothic art as a 1st century artifact.
Bidding to solidify the ill-informed yet enthused proponents of authenticity, the pages here highlight a definitive self-imposed and implausible fata morgana in a desert of shifting conjecture.
Authenticity assertions here exist in an amalgamated attenuation of energy within a semi-unified psychiatric prison ward. Locked in the mutual admiration of self-persuasion, the authenticity crowd promotes and defends a hedonistic agenda of presumptive erudition.
The book attempts to agitate the vomited murky swamp muck in an artificial symbiosis of scientific illiteracy and historical fallacies known as sindonology.
Despite the myriad proclamations, present research on the Shroud only provides further insight into the consummate intricacies and marvels of Gothic art.
Contrary to the edict on the cover of this book, the Shroud of Turin remains a verified achievement of medieval culture and contribution to the evolution of Gothic art.
