I really, really liked that book. In short, the main premise of the book is that human developed in stages. During our Industrial Age the image of man as economic, rational, competitive who thinks of nature to dominate (Judeo-Christian religion) and materialistic. Our society is driven by economics that takes living things, makes them dead and trashes them, and our politics is all about arm race. The author is saying that unless we change that image to a new image of holistic, environment friendly approach where drive to get knowledge and eventually yourself (thru integration of Eastern spiritual means) we will probably perish. Makes a lot of sense. Do read the book....its great.

Read the pdf version of this book as a PHD assignment.
Did not quite like the style of the book but appreciate what the author is trying to relay.
Main take away is that humans are now not that human due to industrialization and unless there is change, decay will be devastating.

The process of dehumanizing started much earlier than the industrialization age. It started when the search for knowledge was bifurcated; those covered by science are those that can be seen and measured, faith and all those that cannot be seen.....elsewhere. How about the human soul?

Science now admits that 96% of the world cannot be seen nor measured. That includes the human soul. Humanities have gone through 2 centuries of dehumanization... How do we turn back the clock?
