I just witnessed a mob hit. The lighter flicks like the sound of a gunshot. Smoke from his cigarette slips through the cracks of my hiding place. His dark chuckle haunts future nightmares I’ll never get to have.

Please walk away. Please.

The sound of a zipper...and then his voice: “Faith Jacobson. 580 Flatbush Avenue. Brooklyn.”

He’s got my wallet. My driver’s license. He knows who I am. It’s over for me. He flings open the lid of the dumpster. The nearby streetlight illuminates me, and suddenly he decides I’m not dying tonight.

No, I am now to become a gift... to his even deadlier brother.

I just became the property of Leo Raspallo.

Kitty Thomas is well known for her dark, literary erotica but I think this novel shows a slight departure for her. She’s definitely showing her softer, more romantic side and if you’ve feared reading her books before because the content scares you a little, then I think you should give this one a try. It’s still a dark subject but there’s absolutely no issues of dubious consent here.

Faith is in the wrong place at the wrong time and witnesses a mafia hit and tries to run but Angelo Raspallo catches up with her fully intent on executing her. He takes one look at her and knows that she is the epitome of his twin brother Leo’s perfect woman so he throws her at his feet demanding that he take her as his slave or she dies. Leo takes one look at her and is instantly attracted to her but he’s got better morals than his wayward twin and won’t take her against her will.

Leo is very much a sadist dom and doesn’t do vanilla and, sadly, Faith is 100% vanilla. She may have submissive tendencies but she does not have one masochistic bone in her body. They do share a physical attraction to one another that is constantly growing but sexually, they’re just not compatible. Leo knows that to let her go is to sign her death sentence so he keeps her in his house, in luxury – she has everything that she needs but she is not free.

I felt so sorry for Faith – she’s such a victim of circumstance. She’s had a crappy childhood and has managed to make a life for herself, is standing on her own two feet and she’s just had it all ripped away from her just for the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s a sweetheart, really quite naive and she’s falling for Leo but his darker sexual side absolutely terrifies her and she tries to give herself to him, tries to be what he wants but fear is written all over her face and Leo won’t take her when she is shaking with fear. She’s like a rabbit caught in the headlights, terrified, scampering, quite literally in fear for her life. She tries to stifle the growing attraction she feels for Leo as he terrifies her but he plays a starring role in her erotic dreams.

Leo is part of a big old loving Italian family with strong values that hides a criminal undercurrent behind it’s public persona. He’s a noble man, trying to do the right thing. He’s not currently involved in his family’s ‘business’ but that’s not to say that he hasn’t been in the past and, despite being a wealthy, handsome surgeon, he wears a scar that is tantamount to his darker past. He’s a good man trying to do the right thing in a difficult situation – he’s definitely attracted to Faith. Her red hair and green eyes are exactly what he loves but he knows that she is terrified here and can never be sure whether she’s acting out of genuine feelings or out of fear.

So, once the situation is set up, with any other contemporary romance author, you would expect them to fall in love and find that happy ever after – hearts and flowers and all but with Kitty Thomas you know you’re going to get a darker story and, even though this is Kitty showing a softer side, it’s still pretty dark. It’s actually a beautifully paced story, it’s never rushed as the situation is given time to develop believably. I enjoyed every second of this, thought the character development was very real and every scene lived vividly inside my head and I totally went on the journey with them, desperate for them to find an equilibrium and all the time totally in fear of what might be coming next.

Can’t wait to see what her delicious wicked imagination thinks of next.

Re-read Dec 2025... I'm sticking with my original 5 stars, though Faith was pretty whiney, lol. This is still the only book out there that doesn't lazily declare the heroine to be a secret masochist. I adore that this author took the time to try to work that out. 😍

Original review Dec 2020:

5 STARS!!
He wanted her to cower and tremble at his feet, and he couldn't simply wish that desire out of existence.
What. The. Hell? I've been avoiding this book for years because the overall rating is so low. It had to be terrible, right? ==> Wrong. I thought it was AMAZING!

So, I love captive romances . . . probably because they remove the characters from reality, which makes their motivations and reactions a bit easier to believe. But my biggest pet peeve is how the heroines are ALWAYS secret masochists. 🙄🙄🙄

Mafia Captive was like a breath of fresh air in that regard. Because what happens when the heroine is just a regular woman who's scared out of her mind and doesn't secretly want to be sexually tortured by a sadist?

I LOVED the push and pull between Faith and Leo within these pages; the guilt, the angst, the terror, the despair, and the small flashes of hope and comfort. I ate it all up. I get that some found Faith to be whiney, but I thought she was pretty spot on. Plus, the set up for the story was quite ingenious.

WARNING: this book is full to the brim with myriad triggers.

This was my eleventh book by Kitty Thomas and by far my favorite! It's going on my very short list of re-readable books.

ATTENTION READERS! MAFIA CAPTIVE is the perfect novel for anyone who looking to dip a toe into the dark side.

Kitty Thomas has done it again! She really continues to amaze me with her artistic range. The fantastic thing about her work is that you really never know what you are going to get… You might get a little paranormal mixed with a little contemporary or something that is so dark that you just don’t know if you should love it or hate it because it made you feel so good. You might get a totally fictitious world or something set in the world in which we live. Whatever she conjures up, you know you are almost always going to totally love it! MAFIA CAPTIVE is certainly no exception!

Was Faith Jacobson in the “wrong place at the wrong time” or in the wrong place at the right time? I’m leaning towards the latter.

After witnessing a brutal murder while walking home alone, Faith finds herself in a seemingly less than desirable situation when she is discovered by the ruthless killer. To her horror, she learns that her fate is quite possibly worse than death. The killer decides that Faith is perfect for his brother, Leo, who has been contemplating acquiring a real life slave to tend to his dark sexual needs. She soon discovers that her new life as a slave is not at all as she had expected. Leo soon discovers that owning a slave requires a lot more energy than he anticipated and desperately searches for a way out of the arrangement, preferably a solution that doesn’t require killing the poor girl. His solution is less than ideal, but it’s all he’s got and Faith realizes she needs so much more than what he is offering.

Lovers of Kitty’s work should go into MAFIA CAPTIVE knowing that the dark element that is ever present in her novels is still there, but it is a different kind of darkness. This would be an excellent read for anyone who is interested in exploring a captive-themed story with a smidge of darkness, but hasn’t quite worked up the nerve to “go there.”

MAFIA CAPTIVE is definitively a “must read” for anyone who enjoys unique stories laced with BDSM elements, powerful characters and the slightly darker side of erotica.

Huh.
I loved the premise of this book, but unfortunately, it didn't do anything for me.
The heroine, Faith, had no personality and was wishy-washy. I understood her apprehensions, but she took my patience to a whole new level.
The hero, Leo, was such a great character and I absolutely adored him. He was the reason I finished.
As a couple, they lacked chemistry, and I had no connection to them whatsoever.
Overall I found this frustrating and tedious.

I will still read more from Kitty Thomas, as I really liked Comfort Food, which was the only other book of hers I've read.
It's just sad to say, I wasn't a fan of this. Sorry.

WOW!!!!

Kitty Thomas does not disappoint me what so ever! She takes you on a physiological mind fuck!

But I will say this book is on a little dark side, If you want to read a book that will take you on a good dark side then this is a good one to start with.

It's nothing brutal at all. Or at least not to me, there might be people who would think this is towards the brutal side but, I just don't see it. Kitty Thomas does something different in this book. When things are finally going smooth and I was not sure what was going to happen or if it was leaning towards dragging along then, it pulled me right back in this book.

Overall this story was great, I couldn't ask for a better ending.

I received a copy provided by the Author for exchanged for an honest review.

I like KT usually, I am all over her books cause she is a great writer and the suspense keeps me glued to the pages - plus she writes about power exchanges and that interests me.

This one is presented as a romance in a non con kinky kinda way - and I can see where people felt that.

Sadly I did not, this book more than any other KT book just made me think the h had Stockholm Syndrome and the H was nothing more than a violent abuser who put a kink label on it.

And that would have been fine, but his sexual preference for extreme pain and her intolerance of it meant that sex for her is pretty much a nightmare, there wasn't any evidence that she was enjoying it and to be honest there wasn't any evidence that she liked being able to be that for him either and maybe get some satisfaction that way.

I just wasn't feeling the love and it made me really, really sad. What made it worse is that she winds up getting shot to save him when he gets a gun aimed at him and frankly, she should have died.

It would have made a better end to the story, cause it would have captured their "love" in a perfect moment and she wouldn't have to suffer anymore and he could still pretend that he gave a damn while he abused more women. As it is she survives, and now only has lifetime of violent and physically damaging sex to look forward to and what kind of HEA is that?

3 STARS!

Well, well... This was my next read from Kitty Thomas.
Who doesn't love dark romance with kink? I do.
But i hate to say that Mafia Captive isn't memorable enough for me.
I have love-hate-love relationship with the story.

What to love at first?
The opening seems promising and quite enjoyable for something dark especially about mafia. It was quick and flowed nicely. Faith Jacobson is a victim from wrong-time and wrong-place. She was kidnapped by Angelo, the Italian mafia so she couldn't report what she saw. Angelo made her as an early Christmas prize for his twin, Leo. Angelo knows his twin always has a thing for redhead and Irish women but not only that, Leo has dark desire and want a full devotion slave. Unlikely, Faith isn't kinky person who could fill Leo's desire. Faith is very timid and afraid with what will Leo do to her. I enjoyed this so far.

What to hate now?
Leo couldn't bear to watch Faith scared every time he near. Of course, she's afraid and uncomfortable. As you know BDSM relationship always based on trust and both of them didn't have that. Yeah, i know that their condition is not simple. What i want is Leo should be more active to get close to Faith rather than taking distance. Faith isn't gonna turn kinky by herself if you don't help her. Clearly, Faith has several issues about the past, but Leo never bother her about that. Leo's character is very weak in this part. Faith turns out to annoyed me with her scaredy-cat personality. That's why i hated it.

description

What to love in the end?
Bla bla bla... Christmas party happened and it's taking too long. I don't care. It was starting to bored me. I just want Leo-Faith relationship to more develop. Until Faith realize that she's jealous with every kink Leo did behind the dungeon. Now faith brace herself to face him. Thank' God! Finally they were moving to next level. This is very long waiting and i really want their hot and burning sex... Did i get it? Nope!!! It was skipped by time!! WTF!

The positive side is Mafia Captive has happy ending. Yep, nothing hanged and nothing left aside. Still, it was well-written, pretty detail story but sometimes out of the line. Not dark, not kinky, not quite erotic enough. Just a safe read. Not what I'm hoping for.

apparently I have already read this...LOL, which means it didn't really leave an impression...and thus I've read it now for the second time...and I am definitely not pleased... :/

Oh hell! Oh, screw it all!
This book really made me pissed in a fight-the-boring-shit-get-to-the-action-already manner!

shit, I can't say one coherent thought about it...

It started so "effin" good...

" What’s your name?”
“None of your business.”
Anger twisted his features in a gruesome tableau of barely constrained violence. his impossibly large hand wrapped around her throat, pressing her against the glass.
“This. Will not work,” he practically growled. “I saved your life. You belong to me now. You keep showing me attitude and see where it leads you. I can make your life the darkest hell imaginable. Or I can show you kindness. Your choice.”
“Are we clear?”
He released her, straightened his suit, and started the car. She coughed as she tried to get air back into her lungs.
“Let’s try again. What’s your name?”
“F-faith.”
“Was that so hard?”

It gave me thrill and expectations...woooohoooo but then it kind of all went down hill from there...
well...

son of a bitch! I can't really think of anything specific that i liked....

I got bored...the discussion between the mafia family members...Jesus, just kill me now!

and then it got interesting again...so I continued reading

no, really - this was a mixture of Bound by Honorand Fifthy Shades of Grey by E L James, so you're probably asking me - what the hell is wrong with that?! This sure sounds alluring, right?

well, that's what I thought, too :(

the MC's, Jesus...he's a mobster (but he's not practicing) except when he needs to. He's a killer, merciless, relentless and hardcore and he's got a thing for the extreme pain and BDSM lifestyle BUT (listen to this!)with morals and guilty conscience...

“I think you should think about the consequences of that very long and hard. If you give me your consent, you’ll be treated as my slave, and I won’t allow you to take it back. You make that choice and you don’t get any more free choices in this house.”
“W-would you be mean to me? I mean… would you be a lot different than you are now? Would I still be safe with you?”
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “You’ll always be safe with me. I would expect you to obey me at all times. If you disobeyed, you would be punished. The dungeon is both for punishment and for play. I play rough, but I’m not mean.”

he kind of keeps our heroine (oh, I'll get back to her in a moment)as a trophy, as a porculain doll BUT all he really wants to do is break her into pieces and glue her back together...and then there was the question of his BDSM fuckery...he gets off on pain, like serious pain, horrible pain and then he makes it all better - well,f*ck it! The point here is that only he gets off!!!
in one moment he's all sweet and tender and then he's this weirdo f*ck,
I thought, for a moment he was bipolar or something!

he won't do it with our heroine, although he wants to so "effin" bad...he barely holds it/READ the SPOILER on your OWN responsibility

and the heroine, oh boy...she was something so annoying, I'm actually shit-pissed-speechless, she was this scared little mouse, that held her kitten close (real animals! duh!)and cried a lot.
she was a submissive but she was scared of him to the death and she whined a lot, like a LOT!!!
and then she does this greater then life gesture in the end...I really didn't know how to feel towards them, I still don't know as I'm writing this...

this is far the most screwed up review I've ever written

It was hard to hold the idea in her head that he was her captor when he was also her rescuer.

yeah, that's exactly how I feel about this...it started good, bored be to death, than made it ok, i finally got to the sex scene in the book and then well, f*ck, she saved them both!

Kitty Thomas is one of the few authors that can write a story like this that you love, over and over again.
That can bring an innocent girl into a situation like this, and make her love it in the end.
Without it being anywhere near Stockholm Syndrome.
And write it in a way that makes you believe it’s possible.
Making you experience her feelings by showing her thoughts, her doubts and her fears.
Showing you how her captor has his own urges, his dark needs and his fear of breaking her because of those.

Though this story has a very dark side,it’s also a story of a growing love between two people that are very different.
It is a story of a girl that ís submissive, but not masochistic.
It is a story of a man that ís a sadist, but not at all costs.
It is a story of how they meet in the middle and end up on the same page.
It is also a story of how a bad situation can still turn into something beautiful.

And it’s a story i LOVE!

“You’re like a priceless piece of art kept in a glass case. I can’t do anything with it but look at it, but I know it’s mine. And sometimes that’s enough.”

I love reading Kitty Thomas' books, she has a way of creating this darkness within and envelops you in a blanket and won't let you go, you won't know if it will end well or worse because once you're making a romantic fantasy between the main characters and then in seconds it will drag you to reality and stops you.

I loved and hated Leo.
I loved and adored Faith.
another story that would stay with me for a while.:)

Twenty-two year old Faith is in the wrong place at the wrong time when she unwittingly witnesses a mob hit. To prevent her from going to the police, the shooter, Angelo, "gives" her to his twin brother, Leo, to be his slave. While Leo has always wanted a TPE relationship and is very attracted to Faith, she does not share his love for or interest in sadomasochism. The rest of the book details their growing feelings for each other that face a seemingly insurmountable obstacle: how does someone who craves inflicting pain find happiness with someone who despises it?

Before I offer my thoughts, I want to advise readers of two things. First, this does contain cheating (on Leo's part). Though he isn't in love with the other women -- they're play partners -- it still crosses a line that I know bothers many people. Second, depending upon what your definition of dark is or your comfort level, this may be either too dark (Faith does begin as Leo's unwilling captive and he does rape her) or not dark enough (he doesn't abuse or harm her otherwise; he genuinely cares for her and protects her; he was very much "your body, your choice;" and he does in his own way make restitution for the assault).

Ultimately, I will be giving this book a low rating, but not because of anything to do with that too vague, too omnipresent word "darkness." Before I explain why, let me say that I did find this book compelling: I was invested in the characters; I wanted them to find their HEA; and I was interested enough in their journey to read this in one sitting. I appreciated that unusually for this genre Faith doesn't experience "betraying body syndrome;" rather, she reacts the way most of us would if we were kidnapped, imprisoned, and threatened with rape and "punishment." I appreciated that Leo realized -- unlike many H's -- that if he continued to push someone with zero BDSM experience that she would just shut down, and so tempered his approach to allay her fears. I appreciated that this wasn't insta-love and that the central conflict -- differences in sexual compatibility (though rather extreme in this case) -- was both organic to the couple and actually something that can destroy an otherwise fulfilling relationship. I appreciated that Leo wasn't a Neanderthal and that Faith wasn't a brat. I appreciated that the writing was well-edited and grammatically correct. And I really, really appreciated Ms. Thomas' disclaimer at the beginning that warns us "not to try this at home;" I wish more putative BDSM books would include this. While I understand some reviewers' concerns (yes, Faith spends a lot of time crying; yes, the book bogs down in the middle; yes, the internal monologues are repetitious and often incoherent as the characters reel from one extreme to another; yes, the ending is abrupt), I still kept turning the pages, interested to see what would happen next.

So, what's the problem? Well, I have four. Let me begin with the two that are the least serious. First, this is filled with plot holes and narrative ellipses. We don't know what kind of job Faith has; how she's Irish if her last name is Jacobson; why belts terrify her (though we can guess); how Leo got his scar (it's hinted at, but we don't know exactly what happened); how Leo has so many nieces and nephews if his sister only has one son; or what anything (the house, the yard, the people) looks like. Second, the meeting of the minds that Leo and Faith come to to make their relationship work was actually the most interesting aspect of the book and the one that Ms. Thomas spends the least amount of time on. After .

Now to the two most serious problems. First, for an experienced dom, Leo behaves in an unbelievably ludicrous manner. I get that these books aren't BDSM manuals, but if you're going to give us an H well into his 40s; if he's been practicing BDSM for a long time; if he's had several play partners who have no problem being alone with him and leave happy, satisfied, and unharmed; if he's invested enough in safety that he works with a dominatrix so that he's fully aware of how to use all the instruments and "toys" in ways that don't harm his submissives, then you cannot give us an H who is confounded by a newbie sub's inability to instantly and on demand do anything he says or wants with no hesitation or fear. It would be one thing if Leo didn't want her to be "turned on" or if he got off on complete fear and anguish, but he genuinely wants an engaged and responsive partner. So, does he do what most Doms in their right mind would do and introduce her to the practices slowly? No, he rushes it -- not once, but twice. And then is shocked, shocked at her reaction. Dude, what did you expect? (Side Note: Not once did the couple have a conversation about her childhood abuse, which, you know, would have been helpful.) Between his behavior and the fact that Angelo hits Faith, thereby risking his mother's finding out the truth, I often felt that the author sacrificed logic for "cheap thrills."

Last but not least, the most serious -- and the reason for my low rating -- is the problem of representation. Do you know who the most submissive and masochistic sub is in the book? Why the Asian woman, of course. Is there any other ethnic character in the book? No. Do you know who the most vicious, most anti-social, most toxic character in the book is? Why the the gay man, of course. Do we see another gay character? Yes, his partner, who seems almost as bad. Do I believe that diversity in representation requires that every character be perfect? No. Do I believe that authors shouldn't go around promulgating such stereotypes as the hypersexual, overly accommodating "geisha girl" or the woman-hating, psychologically unsound "degenerate?" Yes. See, here's the thing: erotica isn't a free pass for homophobia, racism, abelism, classism, transphobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, or even misogyny. And I'm tired of reading books that think it is.

2 stars. If it weren't for the paragraph above, I would have rated this more highly; as it is, the 2 stars are generous.

ETA: Curious where Ms. Thomas is from since Americans don't refer to "operating theatres."

I'm really disappointed with how low the average rating is for this book, because to my mind it takes the "captive romance" genre and twists it into something uniquely and refreshingly different.

Kitty Thomas writes complex characters in difficult situations and refuses to follow the expected conventions and 'rules'. Perhaps that is why so many give the books low ratings, their enjoyment comes from a certain set of expectations being fulfilled, plot rules and routines being stuck to, no criticism if that is your preference. However I loved this book because it really DIDN'T stick to those preconceived notions of what happens in a captive romance book.

They do say to be careful what you ask for because you just might get it, and that's what happened for me with this story. So often when I'm reading a dark romance I want the heroine NOT to be dripping like a leaky tap (faucet to you USA folks) in the hero's presence. Faith was attracted to Leo, but the situation she was in, and his sadistic desires left her cold. I feel it only fair to warn you now that this does contain a lot of dubious-consent and one scene that is non-consent. It wasn't the darkest non-con scene but it is pivotal to the story.

Leo is a good man prepared to do bad things for, at least to his mind, good reasons. So despite now owning Faith, when she reacts with the inevitable (and oh so realistic but usually missing from these books) fear and terror he, as the blurb says, keeps her almost as one would keep a pet or a piece of art. Leo is a complex man, born and raised in a mafia family but with too many morals and too good a heart to live that life. However it has left him with a darkness in his soul and a liking for the more sadistic aspects of BDSM.

I did think the abuse Faith had suffered as a child, her utter fear of 'the belt', would feature as an aspect later in the book. It almost felt like a loose end but, at the end of the day/book, this was a M/s relationship and really it was never going to make a difference. The ending, for some, may feel abrupt. Kitty Thomas doesn't really go for the nice, sweet, tied-up-in-a-bow ending. She leaves us with a raw, realistic ending, one where I would argue quite ferociously that both characters are happy.

Neither has exactly what they want from a relationship, Leo felt like he compromised a lot less than Faith did, but isn't that what life is like? And that ultimately is what I most enjoy about Kitty's work. Whilst the original plot basis might be a slight stretch, how the characters feel and react does feel very genuine and real. I adore dark romances but so very often I can predict how the story will proceed almost blow-by-blow, or beat for beat I believe the literary version is. How much I enjoy the book is then entirely down to the quality of writing. Mafia Captive is just a breath of fresh air and the type of read that I just didn't want to put down. I highly recommend it.

Uummmm........ what can I say????

I don't want to be mean but can I subtract stars?

I guess maybe I'm spoiled .........because I had the great pleasure of reading CJ Roberts Captive series before I read this and I know it sucks to keep comparing everything to a really awesome book (that everybody should read) but I just can't help it!!
I really thought this book fell short, I wasn't thrilled with our alpha male or his leading lady for that matter. I didn't get that he was a DOCTOR and in the Mafia? But not a Mafia Dr. No just happened to be an MD. That was So stupid I mean really? There was NO actual Mafia comings and goings in this "Mafia Captive" besides the title and because the author told us they were in the Mafia which sucked!

WHAT was up with the gay brother in the mafia? Like that would ever happen...not that I have any problem with gay characters I absolutely love em!!!! But why was his homosexual brother more masculine, mean and downright dirty more so than our leading guy? I wanted to be dominated by his Bro more than him!!!!

Like I said maybe I'm a little biased because I think Caleb is the Ultimate Alpha male BDSM and when he dominated you, he really dominated you. I also wasn't thrilled with the writing style I didn't think Leo was a strong Dom and Faith was so weak and pathetic. Obviously I'm not an idiot she supposed to be submissive and meek but she sucked as Sub probably because he was such a weak Dom, I felt like she had no reason to give in and be his sub.

I just don't feel like this book lived up to the reviews I wouldn't recommend it unless you're into sucky domination and no mafia whatsoever maybe that's a little harsh but I'm a little pissed !!!

Let me start off with this; Mafia Captive is classic Kitty Thomas with a twist. What do I mean by that? If you are a fan, you know that you will be drawn into the story with the emotional and psychological connection with the characters. You get to know them, you will take a journey with them. The twist in this story, well that is what I loved about it.

We start the book with the ominous prologue in the POV of Leo Raspallo in one simple page. Turn it, and we flash back seven months to meet Faith Jacobson. Poor Faith, being in the wrong place at the wrong time lands her in the hands of Angelo, a high ranking member of a New York Raspallo mob family and Leo’s brother. Whereas it’s par for the course to eliminate all unnecessary parties of a hit, as in witnesses, Faith is given reprieve by something natural and simple. Maybe Gingers are lucky after all?

From the minute we get into Leo’s head I was anxious. He is wired to be kinky, to be sadistic and what he wants is to own his own slave. Given the early Christmas gift of Faith from his brother, she begins to be a blessing and a curse on this devout Catholic. The blessing? Faith fits almost every fantasy that Leo has had for a slave. The curse? Faith is not kinky. She is so vanilla, so young and so scared about her new situation it is hard not to feel for her. That is where the twist comes into this story. With every Kitty Thomas novel you know that there are submissive tendencies within the women; that on some level they are wired this way and it just takes that certain something/someone to draw it out of them. But it’s there. For Faith; it scares the shit out of her! So, how is this going to work?

In a perfect world, Faith would have had secret fantasies about being dominated her whole life. She would have tried to resist, but her body would betray her.

His fantasies meant nothing in the light of the very real human he was ruining with them.

Leo is dark, but he may be one of the most patient men ever. He lives by his own set of morals that allow Faith to remain alive and unharmed. But what about his wants, his needs? Without his protection, yes protection, Faith would be dead. Neither of them has chosen this situation, this finality of where they are headed. It was chosen for them.

He tried to see things from her perspective, and admitted he might feel as she did, but he’d never encountered a woman who behaved this way. Of course, he’d never held one hostage, either.

Faith, oh I ached for her. I just wanted to wrap her up with her kittens and a cup of tea to have a chat. She felt so much, so deeply but just had no idea what to do with it all. I honestly feel that if these two had met in different circumstances things would have been easier for her. Okay, that is the hopeless romantic side of me coming out. I admit it. How easy can it be when you are forced to be a prisoner and live the life you could have wanted if not for the fact that it wasn’t your choice? Of course, being held against your will is never anyone’s choice, but I would prefer it over death in a dirty alley any day.

You’re the only thing I have ever really owned. I know it’s wrong to keep you, but I can’t help myself. You’re like a priceless piece of art kept in a glass case. I can’t do anything with it but look at it, but I know it’s mine. And sometimes that’s enough.

I am not going to romanticize this book into a cliché but I will say it is the most romantic of Kitty’s work for me. Leo does have patience and morality but that does not mean that he is an angel. Faith is young and naïve with what Leo wants from her but that does not make her weak. Trust me on this. Neither can be pigeon hold to a stereotype. The lack of Faith’s kink simply allows her and Leo to connect on a different level. His visceral need to protect her and her unselfish want to please him leads them down a path to commonality; a place where both can survive unharmed.

Mafia Captive is a great read. Another intense and beautifully dark journey with two characters that won’t leave my mind for quite sometime. I have mentioned in reviews before I am a Kitty Thomas fan girl and this just increases my status. One day I may earn a badge for it.

Ugh...ugh...ugh.

This book sounded AMAZING and I couldn't wait to dive into it. But it only left me disappointed and angry.

Faith is a former foster kid who has a job, but few friends and only a cat waiting for her back home. As she's walking out in town one night, she happens upon a mob hit. As there's a leave-no-witness policy in effect, Faith is about to get whacked. But the hitman has a flash of genius before killing her. He remembers his brother, Leo, has a thing for redheads and he tells Faith he'll let her live if she becomes his brother's sex slave.

With everything laid out on the table, you'd think it'd be a clear cut path to the bedroom and on to sexxy times, right? *record scratch* Not even close. Faith stammers at every word - EVERY WORD - and can't so much as even handle a glance her way before shuddering and shaking like a leaf. Not even when they tell her that her life depends on her being a good sex slave and going along to get along. She gets told this repeatedly - her life depends on her being a sex slave.

description

But still, Faith just can't handle it and can't get it together. She is constantly threatened with a gun to her head and she pleads for her life, yet never goes thru with her end of things. Leo wants her to come around on her own, so his solution is to move her and her cat to the other side of his mansion until Faith will come around to be his slave. *rolls eyes*

Then things take a turn when Leo's family finds out he's keeping a girl in his home. They have no clue as to why Faith is really with Leo. This makes for a really funny segment and Leo's mother steals the show. Faith learns the family expects them to get married and for her to spit out babies ASAP. But still Faith just can't handle anything.

She keeps stuttering and starts to feel jealous when Leo, who can't take it anymore starts getting different girls to satisfy his lust for sex slave desires. Faith sits outside the dungeon door and listens to everything Leo does, but is still hesitant to be Leo's slave.

Finally, one day Faith has had it and she decides to take the plunge and be Leo's slave and tells him to do what he's been doing to the girls in the dungeon she hears about. I mean seriously? It took for Leo to hire prostitutes that were brought in and out before her so that she could decide she finally wanted to be his sex slave?

description

That was the last straw for me and I truly didn't want to read about them being together. I gave up on this book at 72%.

Faith is a young woman in the wrong place at the wrong time when she witnesses something she shouldn’t have and now she is in the battle of her life when she is given to Leo as a “gift” by his twin brother Angelo.
This relationship of extreme opposites seems doomed from the very beginning, neither Leo or Faith giving up on their own needs, conflicted over how to get beyond this stage.
Kitty has given her readers an interesting and intense story and has made the reader extremely satisfied with the ending.

When I want my pretty little view of the world to be messed with, I go to a Kitty Thomas book. She writes wonderful dark erotica with twisted characters that's situations and views of the world aren't the norm, and I like it.
After the first few chapters of this book it became apparent that this book felt different.
Faith is witness to a murder by Angelo Raspallo. He has no qualms in cleaning up his mess and in doing so offing innocent Faith. But one look at her and her red hair gives him an idea. An idea to make his brothers deviant dreams come true. He gives Leo the options, take her or she will be swimming with the fishes by morning.
So we have Faith terrified, knowing that she owes Leo her life, but she is unable to fulfil his needs because she isn't a mashochist, in fact she doesn't have a kinky bone in her body. And we have Leo who dreams a dream of having his own slave, but isn't bastard enough to make her something she is not.
Through in further death threats, a crazy mafia family and a attraction between the two and what have you got? Torture for both parties involved.

This book was a lot less sexy than any of Kitty's other books but no less dark and twisted. The struggle between these two to reach common ground in an impossible situation was a dark journey, very emotional. I enjoyed it immensely. I look forward to more stories from this author.

3.5 Stars!

Not bad, not bad at all. Although, it was not what I expecting. I thought this book will be dark and twisted, but it's not that. It's more like psychological book as Akanksha's said. And I agree.

So, this book was about Italian Mafia!!!

description

Faith Jacobson, the 22-years-old redhead, accidentally witnessing a murder by an Italian Mafia member, Angelo Raspallo. In order to clean it, it's either kill her or take her. To his ever-loving-brother mind, he decided to bring her with him as an early Christmas gift to his twin brother, Leonardo Raspallo a.k.a Leo who has kinky dark lifestyle!

description

Afterward, things get romantic. Umm, I mean.. I thought Leo will start being evil soon as he has her, but no. It's more like family drama. Because Ange being sneaky, he told their mother that his twin brother will soon get married and give her grandchildren. Just to steer his mother to not concerning about his lifestyle during Christmas family gathering at Leo's house. So, Leo and Faith acted as couple to his family. It's either being keep in dungeon or cooperate with him. Smooth Leo..

I hate it that there's not much of romantic scenes between these two. Because yeah, Leo being the gentleman, decided not to force Faith to give him pleasure... So, they were just kissing in front of his family and soon when back to bedroom they be cold as ice. No sleeping together! Ugh. Also, additional to my pique, Caprice the bitch to the fire! She seduced Leo, - no, more like And he fell for it!

description

It's fine, Leo. I understand..

After weeks together, they have feeling for each other, though neither want to admit it. Hurrr! But then Faith called the shot first! Awww~ And also, I really love their pets! Leo has Max, the dog. And Faith has Squish! the flat faced cat! Ha! Really loved the interaction between Max and Squish! And them to Faith and Leo also. Cute pet is my weakness.. lol

Still every bit as wonderful the first time i read Mafia Captive,Kitty has not only given it a beautiful new cover, but a bonus epilogue that’s delicious.
Mafia Captive is a story that delivers KVOHEAWTHGWSN - "Kitty's Version Of Happy Ever After Where The Heroine Gets What She Needs." in spades!

SPOILERS!

I like the idea around this story, although i think it wasn't fully executed properly... or FINISHED!! There are so many unanswered questions... he kept asking if she wanted children but never said if HE did... and do they end up having any??? He never really shows how he really feels, or even really implies it when it's pov. Also, she asked if he would leave permanent marks and he said he hadn't decided. Also, when she went missing, there would have been a missing person's report... and when he applied for a wedding license with her name and her social security i can't help but think that it would have been flagged and cops would have at least come and questioned her. Then bill collectors would come looking for money... and i'm sure she left a lease with her apartment that hasn't been fulfilled...

ugh

Also, in general, i don't understand these super alpha males that must completely OWN a woman, heaven forbid if they get challenged by a woman's intelligence.... and yet, i keep reading these lol

When I read a Kitty Thomas book, I expect it to be weird and crazy. This book didn't live up to that expectation. I didn't like it at all; it wasn't crazy, dark or twisted. It was a more of a psychological book.

Rating: A ... Heat: Hot

I'll be honest with you, part of the attraction to dark erotica for me is the psychological aspect. The dichotomy it presents between love and hate, good and evil, force and consent... You never know what's coming and it makes you a little, or a lot, afraid.

Mafia Captive embodies all that in a slightly easier on the brain package. I say only slightly because the parts that are less only made me want it more. The way that Miz Thomas holds back only ratchets up the tension. I never thought I'd be on the edge of my seat waiting for the hero to take what's his. (Vague much? Sorry. I can't think of another way to explain it!)

Faith Jacobson was in the wrong place at he wrong time. After witnessing a mob hit, said mobster gets a glimpse at her fiery red hair and decides she'd make an excellent Christmas present for his brother. A brother who, along with having a thing for redheads, has always wanted a slave.

But what Leo Raspallo gets is a terrified, barely-adult woman. His dream of owning a slave quickly becomes a nightmare. He wants her, he wants the perks of owning Faith, but is afraid his desires will end up breaking her. If Faith had just an inkling of kink in her blood, he could train her... but she doesn't. Having Faith in his house only brings his inner demons to the forefront.

Matters are further complicated when Leo's family visits for the holidays. Leo, who is a devout Catholic, and Faith have two choices: hide her in his dungeon or pretend she's his fiancé. Mama Raspallo would not approve of Faith living with him otherwise. Faith chooses the pretend engagement. But acting as his beloved-fiancé only shows her exactly what she wants from Leo—which is exactly what he's not capable of giving: tenderness and love. And, at the same time, it forces Leo to the brink in his want of Faith. Pushes him to make decisions neither can come back from.

Mafia Captive hit me in the gut, over and over. It hurt to watch two people, who should be fundamentally wrong for each other, try to make it work because they can't deny their chemistry and attraction. It was a different kind of hurt from Comfort Food or Tender Mercies, but no less painful. Miz Thomas did a great job staying true to who Faith was and who Leo was... even if it had me whining, "Faith! Why can't you just enjoy a little spanking every now and then?!" or "Leo! You're so good at pretending to be a doting fiancé, why can't you really be one?!"

I love how Kitty Thomas writes heroes capable of anything and heroines who are tested and pushed past the brink. The uncertainty, the unknown... the danger ever present... is thrilling. And terrifying. She makes you keep turning the pages, only blinking when absolutely necessary.

If you've never read a Kitty Thomas novel, I think that Mafia Captive would be a great first book to try. Dip your toes into the dark erotica world that is Kitty Thomas. If you're still afraid, I'll hold your hand as you read. *wink*

Favorite Quote:

Faith tried not to think about the price he’d extract from her for all this kindness. A tab had started, and there was no doubt he’d take it out of her body. Even so, she couldn’t help the instinct that made her want to cling to him for his protection, however irrational or foolish such an instinct may be.

This is for a selective audience, or at least those who can't look away. A fetish fantasy about a lonely soul captured by a mobster who gave her to his brother instead of offing her for witnessing a crime. Brother was tall, dark and handsome with a sexy scar down the side of his face and a medical degree, which made his murderous mafioso tendencies acceptable.

How this story differs from most BDSM captive fantasy stories is that our heroine does not begin to start immediately leaking from her girly parts from want of our hero. To the contrary, this strange bird hates it from the get-go and for about four-fifths of the book, which got tiresome and almost boring after a while(and where that other star went.)

Those who love this type of fiction will want to pull their hair out from frustration of how much crying and startled jumping the heroine does throughout most of the entire story. In all honesty, it is probably a realistic reaction of someone who got kidnapped and handed over into slavery, but I don't like too much realism in my fiction. Ruins the whole escapism thing. However, things resolved pleasantly enough in the end (or at least typically for this author). Those who think kidnappers should be shot on sight will likely be disappointed by the eventual capitulation.

Despite the overdone dryness and ambivalence of the heroine, I felt this book was an improvement over the last I read by this author. Definitely a lot of shock and kink but nothing involving hormone injections and machinery (big relief!) I love insidious psychological transformations but not so much the hobby horses and contraptions. Those scare me. I also have to commend this author for being brave enough to write stories as how they would appear in fantasies (let’s not ever lose focus that we're talking about fantasies here) rather than purtying them up with a bunch of fancy contracts and safe words (to paraphrase a concept presented on her blog).

So, for those audiences that like this type of erotica, yes I would recommend this, with the disclaimer to be prepared for the slooooooooooow and painful progress. If you're easily offended and militant regarding women's issues (and without a captive fantasy fetish cell in your body), don't bother. This won't be your type of story.

I loved it, I really loved this book.
I love all Kitty Thomas books, but this was really great.

The first thing that comes to my mind, what was special about this book, is that there were more characters than in the other books. Maybe I remember wrong. This book had a different "mood", not as lonely as Comfort Food or all the other books from Kitty Thomas I can recall right now. Usually there is a huge focus on the two main character and you right away forget the side characters.
But not in Mafia Captive and this is such a fitting scenario for a mafia story.

I can't fully grasp Faiths character, especially her reactions on some things. But I think I simply read to many BDSM books for that. Would be interesting to give a vanilla person this book and see if he/she feels the same terror Faith felt.

The characters are well formed in all aspects, I have the feeling I know both of them.

I personally have an extreme problems with pets in books. Some authors usually overdo it, add to many pets and give them way to much attention. The dog is stupid lovely, but still.. I dun wanna know when they go into a room and when nooot.
But that is the only thing I can complain about and most likely no one else will be bothered by it.
