I think Ox and Kerri may have just taken over top spot as my favorite Valhalla couple. Ox is steadfast and protective, but willing to get vulnerable with ‘his girl’. Kerri is independent and feisty because life has made her that way. I would have liked to see her be a little less cavalier with her own safety, however it gave us some swoon-worthy alpha hero moments with Ox. I loved watching this pair negotiate what they wanted and needed out of this relationship. And the quiet moments where they talked through everything were some of my favorites. The thread of suspense that winds through this story kept me guessing from beginning to end. It’s an answer I didn’t see coming at all. Now I can’t wait until we can dig into the next Valhalla hero up on offer.

This moved both really fast and really slow and read a bit like a textbook on BDSM. What I’ve learned from this book is that I am definitely not a submissive or a little, and that I won’t be calling anyone sir or daddy anytime soon.

I'm not gonna lie. When I discovered RJ's books I lost down the most fantastic rabbit hold of reads. She has a way of writing books that put in a place you wouldn't mind living in! Who wouldn't want to live in Valhalla!!

This book finally brings around Ox's story. He has always been a pretty dominant, head strong man, who's caring heart and damaged past has let him to live a somewhat quiet romantic life. He's the heart of his friends and family. He became friends with Kerri when some flooding brought the town in need of many repairs. Ox owns his own construction company that does work for people in need, town, and the community of Valhalla.

Kerri has been on her own for so long, she knows no other way. She doesn't have any family, or real friends in town. She transferred into two with a new job at her bank without much connection. When her house was damaged in a flood she meets Ox. Ox and her build a friendship while doing repairs. she looks forward to coming home to him working in her house. Ox feels the same, but they keep a safe distance as friends.

That all changes when Ox gets wind of someone putting Kerri in trouble. She's in a whole new world when she becomes his focus, and main priority. She wants to badly to have someone like him in her life. Someone who could be her rock, take control, and give her a partner. She tests him at every turn, but I don't think she would have been right for Ox any other way.

This story is full of some action and drama focused on Kerri and her job at the bank. Ox has a hard time tamping down in the protective nature he feels for her. As their relationship progresses, he has to be a man who always proves what he says, and means when he says he isn't going anywhere.

Please sit down and bring yourself into the world of Valhalla. You will be thrilled, page turning (so watch for paper cuts or tapping too hard on that ebook), and indulging in such a wonderful story!!

FROM FRIENDSHIP TO A D/S RELATIONSHIP

The story is the tenth book in the Veterans of Valhalla series and will mainly focus on two characters, Kerri Allen and Warren ‘Ox’ Cox. They became friends when he did renovations on her home after a storm that caused flooding and damage. But when Ox overhears an irate customer yelling at Kerri and making threats, he gets involved.

The story is a mystery with romantic suspense, life-and-death danger, and a change in the relationship between Kerri and Ox. Kerri has been to the Citadel and witnessed a scene with Ox and a club submissive, but she has never engaged in a BDSM or D/s relationship herself. Reading and curiosity, and having her favorite running partner, Veronica, taking her to an open night at the Citadel is the extent of the lifestyle. When Ox decides the threats against Kerri need him to protect her, it starts platonic but they discuss their ‘mutual feelings’ and desires to explore their relationship and expound upon it. Ox is experienced in the lifestyle and must help introduce Kerri to it, which she wants, but it won’t be easy, but anything worth having, usually isn’t.

“Ox was a conundrum. Sweet and stern, grumpy and sunshine. She couldn’t figure him out.”

I really liked the characters and chemistry between Ox and Kerri. She has fought for everything she has ever accomplished in her life and giving up control isn’t easy. Ox is determined to help Kerri, and that includes breaking her from some of her bad habits. But when danger threatens her, and it is a matter of life and death, Ox and the men of Valhalla will do whatever it takes to rescue her and keep her safe.

“Ox, you are my home. You said I’m your queen. Well, every good queen needs a strong king standing beside her. You are my king, my best friend, my lover, and my Dominant. In your arms, I’ve found safety.”

UPDATE: After reading RJ Gray’s newsletter, which I received shortly after releasing my initial review, I have a better understanding of her depiction of Ox and Kerri, and their relationship. Thus, I am increasing my rating by one star.

Reviewing Ox, Veterans of Valhalla, book 10, written by RJ Gray, has had me stymied for several weeks. I have even gone back and reread portions just to see if my reaction was the same. I have enjoyed all the previous books of the Veterans of Valhalla which I have read and thus, it is with some misgiving, that I rate this book a 3 stars. I have not been able to connect with the main characters, which is a difficult thing. It was not because they were mean, unlikable characters; I didn’t really get a feel for Kerri and the description which kept coming up for Ox was “bull in a china shop.” Was that because of his name? Or because he kept explaining to Kerri what HE expected from her as a submissive? Or was it that he came across as both a dominant and a supplicant? I had to understand him before I could give a considerate review of the book. Then, in Chapter 20, I found the answers; by both word and deed, Ox portrayed many of the characteristics I had been struggling with.

Ox nodded. "Actually, I took Tank's advice," he admitted.
"My advice?" Tank looked around the table in surprise, seeking confirmation of what he had just heard.
"Yes, your advice. I showed her grace. We talked, just talked, and I told her I need to protect her. We spent the entire night talking, and she shared more about her past and the pain she's endured. Kerri is a true survivor. I’m constantly reminded she’s new to power exchange dynamics. I'm trying to show more compassion," Ox explained.

At some point in the future, I may well reread this book and be more ambivalent about Ox and Kerri, but for this to be an honest review, I must express my true reaction.

Ox is book ten of RJ Gray's Veteran's of Valhalla. You don't need to read the series in order, these all work as standalone books, and some of the previous do pop up in the back from time to time. I think I've only read three or four of the books and have done so without problem. The only reason why I've not torn my way through the books, although I have enjoyed the ones I have read, is that I really need to be on the mood for BDSM books.

Ox is the nickname of the titular character, Warren Cox, he's ex military and has settled down and was building an estate with his brothers in arms. He is a gentle giant, a man of action and such an easy character to love. Ox met Kerri Allen some months ago when her house flooded and he gave her a hand. They became friends straight away but they were dancing around each other - Ox thinks she deserves better than him and he is unsure if she is into the BDSM life style. Kerri on the other hand doesn't know how to approach the big guy. She saw him performing a scene at the local BDSM club, she had gone there on an open night with a friend and she knows some women in the life style. Kerri doesn't know what she wants, especially because to this point most of her kink exploration has been in romance books.

Their relationship takes the next step when one of Kerri's clients poses a threat to her safety, perhaps even her life. Ox happened to be at the bank where Kerri works to hear the interaction and he is all about protecting the woman he likes. Kerri and Ox work so well together. Kerri has a strength and determination that means her personality suits Ox's daddy dom.

A captivating, entertaining read I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of
Occasion she has a very strange feeling about certain things and this is how she feels about this, James Bennet applied for a home loan and this is the second time that he has been refused and he has blown up on both separate occasions.
Kerri has learned to deal with disappointed clients but it is no surprise that every one cannot get every loan that they ask for, Kerri knew as soon as she saw him in her office that he had come about the loan refusal and she knew that he was there to make his feeling known.
She had even gone out of her way on the previous occasion to advise him that there were things that he could simply do that would raise his level and he had simply done absolutely nothing and now he was screaming at her in her place of work.
The situation is going south very quickly and she is ready to phone for security and hope that they will arrive in time to help her. As she picks up the telephone to make the call Warren Cox “Ox” as everyone knows him comes to her assistance and she is not surprised as they have met before when she had some issues with the place she was living, he is a true man of action that you would not mess with but he has a heart of gold and is always happy to help when he can.
I know that you will be like me and once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down until you read how they pair are going to do as the get to know each other far better.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Bank officer Kerri has had only herself to rely for a long time, so she’s terrified to open her life and her heart to someone else, even the gorgeous, dominant Ox. While helping Kerri fix her house following a flood, Ox proved himself trustworthy and dependable, and after having seen him at the BDSM club The Citadel, Kerri has a secret crush on him, but thinks the military vet could never feel the same way about her. But he does, and he sees his chance when Kerri is threatened at work. He brings her to his home and they confess their feelings for each other. Kerri also confesses her desire to explore the BDSM lifestyle. She’s read books about it, but Ox opens her eyes to the reality. And she wants it, with him.

Because Kerri is a newbie, there is a lot of explaining on Ox’s part as he teaches her what a healthy d/s relationship should be. The disappointing bit was that all the talking, while necessary for Kerri, didn’t leave room for much steam. And there were a few times where things felt a bit repetitive, but when it came time for the conclusion of Kerri’s stalker ordeal, it felt rushed. There was no aftermath. I wanted to see what happened next … I was expecting some emotional moments, some heat, something!

There were a few instances where my head got pulled a bit out of the story, where my brain immediately went “No one talks that way.” Some of the dialogue seemed too formal for a regular conversation.

But all in all, a really solid book. Can’t wait to read the next one!

My guess was that this book was a stand-alone. I didn't have a problem keeping up with the characters or relationships. Ox and Kerri obviously had a past. Not a romantic relationship, but they spent a lot of time together.

I think if I had been able to read more about Ox and Kerri developing that friendship, when they started talking about a D/s relationship it would not have felt so abrupt.

Once that first discussion took place, I have to admit Ox spent a LOT of time talking about it. Not sure why I thought he would have eased Kerri into it a bit more.

As far as the stalker was concerned, there were three people that stood out like glow sticks. Two were way too obvious, so that left number 3. It wasn't a surprise necessarily, but the reasons were kind of surprising.

Then there was the situation at Valhalla. It wasn't resolved in this book. It made me wonder if it was something ongoing, or it was forgotten. I may have had a couple of reservations about how the relationship progressed and how I waa kind of left hanging about the other situation, but it was still an interesting read.

I would give this book 3.5 stars. Ox and Kerri got their HEA. I would have really appreciated some type of an epilogue.

I have to say that I love this series and that this one was my favorite of the bunch! Kerri is a loan officer at the local bank near Valhalla. Ox, or Warren Cox, is a Valhalla veteran, who owns a local construction company and handles the new builds on Valhalla. Ox had helped Kerri a while back when her house flooded. Ox happened to be at the bank when a customer got really unruly and threatened Kerri. Mischief, mayhem, and a bunch of crazy happens in this book. That’s without the BDSM element. I love how the author explains that lifestyle and although I’m not into that stuff, I still enjoyed the story because who doesn’t love a kick butt veteran who comes to the rescue?

You learn all about Kerri’s past and Ox’s. It was very interesting and some parts were heartbreaking. War always is. We forget that our veterans are warriors and sometimes they have to do things to protect us and the world that they wouldn’t normally do. It put a lot of my WW2 veteran grandfather’s stories into perspective.

I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. They all are so good.

This was a BDSM romantic suspense.

Kerri Allen is the senior loan officer in the bank. She thinks she is a submissive.

Warren "Ox" Cox is former military and now owns a local construction company. He is a Dominant.

Kerri and Ox have known each other for about a year. He helped her when her house was flooded and have become friends. She has to turn down a home loan application and the man becomes irrate. Ox overheard the yelling and burst into her office to help her. The man escalates his threats to her so Ox offers to bring her to his home where she will be safe inside the Valhalla community. As they talk about their backstories she mentions going to the Citadel once as a guest. He then explains different aspects of BDSM to her and she asks him to show her. They begin forming a D/s relationship while also falling in love. The threats against her culminate in a kidnapping and surprise villian. They get their HEA.

This book is a military romance, book 10 of veterans of Valhalla- ox's & Kerri's story 💜🖤

Ox is ex military, he's a big bad alpha, and too top it off he's a Dom! Kerri has fantasized about being a sub but can she really give up her control to ox!?

Ox is just the guy who could help her in more ways than one. Kerri is such a strong submissive, She realized it didn’t make her weak to submit to the man she loved and trusted to protect her.

Kerri is being threatened and Ox will do anything to protect her. It’s finally time to show her how he feels, While these two explore their relationship they also fight to keep Kerri safe.

I love how Ox told her that he needed her as much as she needed him.

This book has it all!! Suspense, plot twist, some really hot scenes and a HEA.

The dual POV gives you a greater insight of how the main characters are thinking and feeling. The characters are amazing and helps to tie the series together although it could be read as a stand alone as well.

I highly recommend this book, and the whole series! This author never disappoints.

This is the 10th book in the Veterans of Valhalla series by RJ Gray and this is Kerri Allen (senior loan officer in the bank) and Warren 'Ox' Cox (Former Military/Construction Company owner/Dominant) story. These two met when her house was flooded and have become friends. Whilst at the bank, Ox overheard yelling coming from her office, she had just turned down a home loan application and the man was furious, so Ox being Ox burst into her office to help her. When the threats to her start to escalate, Ox brings her to his home inside the Valhalla community. As they discover more about themselves, she explains that she once went to Citadel as a guest. She is very interested in the BDSM aspect so he explains all he can and so it begins. They form a D/s relationship while discovering their feelings towards each other all the while the threats against her just keep coming and ends in a kidnapping! Who is really threatening her? Will they get their HEA?.

Ox: Veterans of Valhalla is the well written and steamy tenth book of RJ Gray’s military romance series, but can easily be read as a standalone.
With likable characters and a plot of budding romance - with two people trying to adjust to a relationship with a new power exchange lifestyle - mixed together with hot kink, danger, suspense and crime that’ll leave you guessing until the end, this book made for an enjoyable read.
The book is heavy on talk and explanation on BDSM so if you are new to the subject - and curious - this book is a good place to get a thorough introduction. For a reader like me, who have read quite a few books in the genre, its informative and explanatory nature made for a little heavy and slow-moving reading in the beginning, but the way it picks up pace greatly towards the climactic end, where the criminal mystery unfolds, left me feeling greatly entertained.

RJ Gray’s ‘Ox’ is part of the Valhalla series of former military dominants. Kerri is an independent, successful, and well respected woman who has always been a self motivator. Her family is nonexistent, she’s never had a great relationship, and she works too hard. Ox is a protector, tough, and scarred emotionally and mentally from his military service.

A stalker changes their dynamic: Ox is attracted to her and she’s attracted to him. The threat brings them together and makes them face their feelings. She’s curious about the D/s relationship and Ox is more than happy to provide the details. RJ does a great job through her narrative and dialogue to show how Kerri and Ox work together to create a healthy relationship. The steamy scenes are awesome and the punishments hot!.

Warren Cox AKA Ox has wanted Kerri Allen since he first met her. They developed a bond and friendship while he repaired her house. He's been dragging his feet about taking things to the next level. That is until she starts receiving threats, now he's all in. Kerri is about as independent as they come and equally self deprecating. She's hasn't had anyone in her corner since her teens. No one to support or lift her up. Ox determines that ends now. While he's not Daddy, he is a Dom. Kerri isn't interested in being a Little but have a Dom is very much something she wants to explore. She definitely is a brat though which means there is a lot of discipline in her future. Her safety and health are priority number one. The threats escalate, the number one suspect is out of the equation and the real perpetrator comes from out of left field.

A great addition to the Valhalla series!

What an amazing story! I loved so many things about this book. I love that Kerri was such a strong submissive. She realized it didn’t make her weak to submit to the man she loved and trusted to protect her. I love how Ox knew when to give her grace. I love how Ox told her that he needed her as much as she needed him. This book has it all. Suspenseful with a plot twist and some seriously sexy scenes and a HEA. The dual POV gives you a greater awareness of how the main characters are feeling. The character development is awesome and helps to tie the series together although it could be read as a stand alone as well. I definitely recommend not only this book but this whole series.

I really enjoy these Veterans of Valhalla books. Kerri is a another string self assured female who doesn’t even know what is missing in her life.

Ox .. another military veteran who came home with issues he still works through. Why are all of the men from Valhalla so darn 🥵??

Kerri is in need of protection and Ox rises to the occasion. While a stalker is on the loose Kerri spends more time with Ox and learns what it would be like for a D/s relationship… something she has read about but never participated in.

Of course we get to see former couples and I enjoyed the antics of Veronica … she is still a handful.

A fun but yet suspenseful read.

I so Enjoy each Trip to Valhalla!!

Kerri works at a bank, and has an irate customer James who had a loan request declined. Ox, who makes all bank errands on the chance he can run into Kerri, happens to be there, and makes sure she does not get hurt. Drunken bar threats lead Ox to bringing Kerri onto Valhalla until James can be handled.

Meanwhile Kerri admits she has seen Ox at the one time she visited The Citadel club. She only knows what she has read in books, but they agree to try a D/s relationship. a terrific look at this from a beginner’s point of view. Ox is patient, but sometimes doubting as his crew steps in to assure him.

A beautiful story, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Plenty of exciting suspense, well written.

The characters are not perfect, but they are entertaining. The chemistry is off the charts as Kerri has her chance to investigate her curiosity with kink.

A few surprises in this book, but the building of a solid relationship for Ox and Kerri is key. I like the way Ox is always watching out for Kerri, even before they are romantically involved.

The ongoing mystery is threaded throughout the story but does not take away anything from their current dangerous situation. I really enjoyed the inhabitants of Valhalla making an appearance.

Warren “Ox” Cox is a Veteran of Valhalla and owns his own global construction company.
Kerri Allen is a financial advisor and loan specialist at the bank.
Kerri is a smart strong, and independent woman.
Ox is a strong alpha protective man.

These two became friends , when Ox helped fix her damaged house.
Kerri had a customer incident after he was turned down on a loan application.

This story started out with potential, but within the first couple of chapters the characters are talking about the rules of BDSM. There wasn't really anything that lead up to it. One minute they're talking about a threat against Kerri, the next Ox is going into all the rules and discussions needed for a partnership. I found it oddly written with the OTT alpha having to have his way or no way. I'm all for learning something new and having characters be curious, but there needs to be good story flow. This didn't have the draw for me after a few chapters.

Sadly, I was not able to finish the book.

Ox is a yummy, dominant, Alpha male and he is drawn to Kerri but is she really a submissive? Kerri knows that there is something about Ox that she is drawn to but once she learns more about him will she still want to be around him. A threat to her draws them closer together and it could also tear them apart. This is the first book of the Veterans of Valhalla series that I have read, and I really want to go back and start at the beginning to learn more about all the couples and situations that were mentioned in this book.

This is an intriguing read about Ox/Warren and Kerri. She works in a bank and has just turned a guy down for a loan, for the second time. The guys is getting mad and aggressive when Ox steps into put a stop to it. Ox is a contractor who did some work for Kerri. They have crushed on each other but neither makes a move. When she is threatened and a dead bird and note are found things between them escalate. Ox and Kerri begin a power exchange relationship. As their relationship grows he is there to protect her and cherish her. This is a good read with danger, mystery, suspense, BDSM, spankings, passion and a good twist.

Great story. Ox and Kerri have been friends since he fixed her flooded house. She now has to ask Warren Cox, Ox, who was a former special forces operator for help. She's being stalked by someone and they need to find out who is after her before she becomes a victim. As they are spending more time together their friendship evolves into something wonderful. Ox brings Kerri to his home and they reveal their feeling for each other. Kerri also wants to explore the BDSM lifestyle. This story is just as intense as the rest of the Veterans of Valhalla. I can't wait until Tank comes out.

Warren/Ox and Kerri have been interested in each other for quite a while, but it takes a stalker situation to push Ox to make his move. Kerri fights against their relationship dynamic but Ox is patient and works with her to find their balance. The stalker situation was well written with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end on who the bad guy(s) are.

This book was an enjoyable escape from day to day.
