This was a cute story, overall, in the general vein of stories like Inkspell and the Jasper Fforde books, where people in books 'live out' their stories, mostly unawares, unless someone, or something, changes that awareness.
The Librarian is the guardian of the stories and is thus tasked with trying to fix them when things go awry.
And go awry they do when Wesley and Taylor end up in Oz and change the story.
I got this as a two book set because Amazon was having a special. I'm glad I got the set because I think I would've been disappointed if I'd just gotten Book One. I mean, Book One basically felt like set-up, and it wasn't until I was into Book Two that I'd actually realized Book One had even ended (me being the story to miss the convenient End of Part One notice...)
Book Two is much more eventful and interesting, by far, though I can't say it left much of an impression other than I did enjoy it - I liked how Oz was clearly based on the books and not the movies - I'll probably read the next when it comes out, but it's not high on my priority list, either.
I am about 80% done with this book. My local library informed me that a book I had on hold became available. I have put this down so I can read the other book.
That being said, this book is so unmemorable I am having a hard time just remembering the 2 main characters name. I will finish this book because I hate not finishing books.
I only bought this book because the ad said it was the next Percy Jackson. It isn't. Percy Jackson has character development. As you read you begin to like the characters, or hate the ones you should hate. These characters are bland and boring, worse than just broth for dinner.
I have finished these books. A month later and I could not tell you anything about this book. It is truly unmemorable. Even at free it isn't worth getting this book
Interesting premise and fun read. How does one react when you discover you can visit the world of a child's story book like The Land of Oz or Never Never Land...but only if you observe and don't interact with anyone there? What happens when you decide to go and then don't live up to your end of the bargain. This read covered books 1 and 2. Will take a break and then go back to see what happens next.
What a fun book. I loved how the author turned a current day story about bullying into a fantasy about classic tales like The Wizard of Oz. Great book about the joy of reading, standing up for your friends and doing the right thing.
The story ended quickly with little resolution - I did get book 1 and 2 as a set, but based on length I'm wondering if this is 1 book not 2. Not ready to read the second to find out. After reading the second - I may change my rating.
I had to stop reading this about 20% into it. I like YA Lit, but while the story was interesting, the writing was amateurish. The conversation just didn't seem right, and really stodd in the way of my enjoyment of the book.
This is really a young person's kind of book. I read it anyway and enjoyed it for what it was. The magical library allows those who know to enter books and changes can be made. It's really kind of a lesson about changing the past and the consequences that action might cause no matter what the intentions are.
An interesting take on the retelling of an old tale. It was entertaining and I am curious to see where the series goes as there are many unanswered questions.
Rollicking story but this combined edition had several typos. Not as polished as I'd expected. I wish the author had spent more time with some of the "minor" characters, like Randy.
enjoying the story but wishing an editor was used... hard to ignore some of the errors you're/your, shuttering/shuddering, make due/make do.... distracting!
