This series is getting better and better and better! I wish i could give it more then 5 stars.
This novel was brilliant, I got to read Wyn and Illyan's point of view. Both characters are actually my favourite in this whole series, so i loved seeing this insight. I cried, got scared, freaked out! It was amazing!

JUMPING straight into Soul of Flame now... best be off!!

I am truly disappointed with how this book turned out. I was expecting the story to continue from where it left off, but all I got was a lot of background story on Wyn (which I really didn't need to understand the book). I would have been happier if the author had written a Novella on Wyn's story, which I would not have read and carried on in the book. When the continuation finally started off where I wanted it too I was on the second to last chapter and they flew by too fast.

The only story that matters to me is Ilyan's and Joclyn's story. I don't want to know how Ryland passed the 2 weeks Joclyn was out and what happened to Wyn and Talon at the same period of time. I found myself skimming all of Wyn's chapters and even Ilyan's chapters as well since I already had an idea of what was going on at the time I didn't need him to recap all of that from his point of view.

I absolutely love damsels in distress who then become strong and save the world in a storyline. That's was I was expecting when I started this book considering the cliffhanger in book 2. All I got was a copy of book 2 in other characters perspectives.

In my opinion, the author could have easily continued where book 2 left off and have Joclyn's visions explain what had happened to Wyn, Talon, Ryland and Sain or she could have had Sain explain everything to Ilyan who could then would pass the information onto the reader (in this case Joclyn's point of view). Anyhow, I will be eagerly anticipating book 4 and wishing the storyline moves forward from there.

Favorite Quotes:

"She loves him Ryland. Joclyn loves Ilyan more than she loves you. What are you going to do about it?"

"Without question, he had proved that to me again and again. No, he was love because I loved him".

"I love you, and I will always protect you".

A look into the rest of the characters' minds during Eyes of Ember. Fantastically written, it answered many questions I was left with after Kiss of Fire and Eyes of Ember, and it opened up all new questions leaving me helpless and impatient for Soul of Flame in December. I am in love with this series; I just want to crawl inside of the universe the author has created and live there forever.

This was BY FAR, THE BEST THING REBECCA L. ETHINGTON HAS WRITTEN. This was one of the best books I have read all year! THIS WAS MIND-BLOWING, MIND-NUMBINGLY, FANTASTIC. My God, where are you Rebecca i need to kiss you!

Also i would like to mention if you haven't caught on this is the 3rd in a series, there will be spoilers not only from the first book *i know gasp* but also the second book *double gasp!* so please don't look at this review unless you don't care about the happenings of the second book or the first.

Song Choice: "Calgary", & "Flume" by Bon Iver. "Can't Help But Falling In Love With You" cover by Ingrid Michaelson (originally by Elvis), "Cinders and Smoke" by Iron&Wine, and lastly i am going to go with "Just Abuse Me" by Air Traffic but this song has a really high upbeat movement that doesn't quite fit this book, but i still say it.

First Gushings...I mean thoughts...yeah thoughts...psst, screw it, first gushings: OKAY after coming off the last book i was ... concerned...about how this book would go. I did NOT read the summary, i DID NOT read even my friend Nellysa's reivew...though i don't think she did one...but thanks sweetie for getting me through the second and this one! you are a peach! anyways back to the book. Seriously this was fantastic i loved LOVED LOVED LOVED our "new" perspectives of Wyn and Ilyan, we learn more, and more about them, the stronger both character become, and the more my heart broke for both of them. I like to consider myself pretty freakin' badass, its hard for a book to get me to cry once, but more than once, well congrats Rebecca you win! The plot was beautiful, the fact that Rebecca was willing to go where other authors in the "young adult" - which i don't consider this "YA" all that much - anyways she is willing to go there. And boy did she go there! What you need to know is that this takes us back about to half of the second book, and we are learning what Wyn and what Ilyan went through. And we do move forward some in this book but not a whole hell of a lot, but my god i am not shitting you what-so-ever this book is worth reading both the first two books even if you don't like them, this is worth it. that sounds mean...what i am trying to say is this was the best in the series so far, in my opinion. it was just wow...

Thoughts on Plot: so I already mentioned in first thoughts that it was fantastic, and Rebecca went there. Boy did she go there. Now as i also mentioned this takes us back in about half way through the second book recounting what was happening to Wyn, and what was happening to Ilyan. Here is the thing, while this book is a bit more lacking on the romance aspect it was not lacking on heart break or learning about people's past, or action. It is fast paced but i had to take breaks to be honest because there is a lot to take in a lot to process. look i am not going to sugar coat this, this was not a happy tale, this was not an easy journey, this was hard, this was painful and this was beautiful both story wise, and writing style. This book was really revolved around the characters as well. Also i forgot say this before. There will be unlikely heroes in this book so don't be hating too much you might regret your decisions ;)

Thoughts on Characters!

BUT BEFORE I DO THAT! i have a special treat for you usually i don't do this, but sometimes i have the urge and i did for this so i have castings for you!!!!

Wyn (because legit she became one of my new most favoritest characters ever!):

Jos:

Ilyan (seriously another new favorite character):

Ryland:

Kay I am going to start with Wyn as not only because i love her so but because she is the first POV we read in this book so without further ado

Wyn: Now she was a minor character, if that in the last book. In the first book she was the new girl best friend of Jos which she desperately needed but Jos is very closed off and we couldn't really experience all that Wyn would be because of Jos close-off-ness, this not a jab at her i promise! Anyways moving on. We learn so much more about Wyn, we become so much more attached to her and so more involved with her. I love Wyn for her loving personality and her need to have fun but she is badass, and she is dangerous when she needs to be. We learn so so so much more about Wyn and there is so so so much i cannot say about her because it would be a spoiler but know that she deserves your love, she deserves your support, and she deserves happiness. My heart cried for her. I don't know how to say much more without giving anything away but know this she is strong beyond belief, she is passionate, she is like i mentioned dangerous, she is a fighter.

Ilyan: If you didn't fall in love with him in the last book then something might seriously be wrong with you...so you might want to get that checked out. But if you didn't fall for him then you will fall for him now. He is the most selfless man ever. He like Wyn deserve the world and more. He is a born leader, he is the perfect leader really. And that is not just being nice, he really is. He looks at everything from every side, he tries his damnedest to make everything right. So i need to do quotes for Ilyan.

"I love her more than I have any other. I love her enough that I would rather see her happy than in my possession. My time will come.”

"I wanted to leave her with one beautiful thing."

"I would wait a thousand more years to experience those sights, but they could come to pass."

"I love her enough that I would rather see her happy than in my possession."

one more i swear!

"But as with all right decisions, there was a sacrifice to be made, wrong steps to take first. There always was. Making the right choice was never easy. But making it was required, and it was what I was raised to be. A King, a leader to my people."

Jos: Welp Jos is still lost in her own mind with Cail for most of the book so at the end when she comes back to us we already know she is pretty much shattered. I loved how she was portrayed, i loved her in this book, she might be scared and she might be broken but she still managed to find the strength to stand up and do the hard stuff.

Ryland: Grrrr we don't get much of him either, and there isn't much i can say. So there that is.

The ending! wow that ending! WOW WOW WOW PERFECTION. i need the next one please and thank you!

So if you want to see what i wrote about the first two books, or you finished reading this one and need another awesome indie come check out the books on this fantastic cute little blog called the Violet Hour it has a bit of everything - novel wise, not poetry sorry do enough of that in Brit Lit classes. ;) so here is the link check it out if you want to, if you don't you don't... http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

Let me just start with saying WOW! This book completely surprised me! We were forewarned at the end of the last book that this would be from Wynn and Ilyan’s point of view (which many people seemed upset about) but after reading this – let me tell you, you had NOTHING to be worried about!

The book begins from Wyn’s point of view just before Edmund and the Trpasliks attack Imdalind while Ilyan and Jocelyn are in hiding (and just before Jocelyn gets trapped in the Vymazat) and it alternates POV’s between Wyn and Ilyan. It fills in all the blanks from Eyes of Ember and answers a lot of questions and suspicions about other characters that were only mentioned in Eyes of Ember – plus it gives you the bigger picture of everything that was happening outside of Jocelyn’s world.

The story starts out a bit slow as we get caught up on what was happening with them both (Wyn and Ilyan) during the Eyes of Ember timeline but around halfway through the story explodes in a big way! There’s a big reveal about Wyn and her history. O.M.G! I LOVE Wyn! She totally stole the show in this book! I loved reading about her! I’m so glad her story was added in for this book! This chick is one TOUGH cookie! And without giving anything away, I can’t wait to see where her story continues alongside Jos (and another character I won’t name here … ahem)

From Wyn’s POV when she is imprisoned by Edmund, we get to delve further into Ryland’s emotional state, his jealousy of Ilyan, his torment and torture at the hands of Cail, Timothy and Edmund. Man, my heart broke for this kid and yet through it all when anyone else would have completely given up he still keeps fighting but there’s only so much a person can take before they break beyond repair.

That just leaves me with Ilyan… where do I begin? This man is a dream! He literally draws his strength from Jocelyn, from the love he has for her. His emotions and thoughts are intense and deep and completely selfless. He puts Jos first before anyone and anything including himself, and he just melts my heart.

“The child of Sain, the first Drak, the Silny, the woman who was created for me, was in love with my baby brother. My brother who had stood up to our father and refused to torture me; who had fought him to give me a chance to escape. I will protect her for him. I will keep her safe as my soul calls for me to do, but I will never take her from him.”

This book had it all – great story, great new insight to new characters and great action! You learn more about Sain, Thom, Cail, Wyn, Ilyan, Ovailia (that B*@#$^#$!! – nuff said!) and you will grow to love some and LOATHE some.

December can’t come soon enough to read the fourth book in the series: “Soul of the Flame”

I gotta say right off the bat that I was disappointed and I feel like this book could have been a companion novella to the series and it wasn’t needed. I mean, most of it was a recap from the other characters POV’s. Pretty much the whole book up until the last 15 percent so I was really upset about that honestly. The second book left on such a cliffhanger that I was all ready to jump in and find out what happens. There are a few aspects in the book that we, as readers, needed to know but I don’t feel it required an entire book in this series.

I didn’t really like Wyn to be honest, she wasn’t a side character that I really bonded with and enjoyed. Sometimes the side characters really make the story for me but I didn’t get her. This book did clear a little bit of back story up plus her magic is pretty kickass, so there’s that.

I think that I would have liked to have saw Talons’ role more prominent in the book or even Thomas’ role just to get a better understanding since it had alternate POV’s, it focused mainly on Wyn and Ilyan. Ilyan’s character was pretty deeply ingrained in the second book, I didn’t need the extra. I already had a really good understanding and a bond with him as a character. I feel like Thomas and Talons characters with regard to Wyn could have added more to make it a better rounded novel cause we don’t really see a lot of Joclyn in this like at all.

Favorite Quote:

Desperation, it was a feeling I had rarely felt in my long life. I had never really been hopeless enough to feel it. I was always the one in control, powerful and resilient. I laughed at battle and found joy in an impending death. With Joclyn’s injured body in my arms, though, I only felt desperation.

I Received an ARC for an Honest Review.

Scorched Treachery is Book 3 in the Imdalind series. This is Very similar to Eyes of Ember as it is From Wyn and Ilyan's Point of View. While it is similar it is also very different. You may wonder why exactly did Rebecca choose to write this book now rather then later and not go straight to the next part of the series.Well let me be the first to tell you this was needed. There is so much going on that We,The Readers were not able to delve into in Eyes of Ember. The Horrors Wyn will face will be eye opening.Ryland is going to shock you and Ilyan..Your going to fall even more in love with him by being able to get to know him better and get inside his head. The amazing thing is Scorched Treachery is able to be its entirely own book rather then like say a Novella or something like that. There is So very much that is eye opening and Jaw dropping.Fans of the series are going to love it.
Im not at liberty to write spoilers as I don't want anger any Imdalind fanatics.I will say that Rebecca has written a Wonderful story that delves deeper and shows us sometimes things are not as easy as 1-2-3.Joclyn almost plays a secondary role in Scorched Treachery as She is Cail's Mind for most of Scorched Treachery..But never fear I said Most. Not all.
I truly Hope, when reading this you will see the true Gem that is Scorched Treachery. How well written and Eloquent it is.I have a great respect for an Author who would take the time to write a story such a this one so we are able to find out so much more of what Wyn,Ryland and Ilyan went through while we were in Joclyn's mind in Eyes of Ember.Congratulation's Rebecca on your Release of Scorched Treachery and Thank You for your ability to write such a Masterpiece that is the Imdalind Series.

Oh my gosh, my heart!

description

How could I have ever doubted this book?

I can't even...gah...speak! Reading Wyn's and Ilyan's POVs was like nothing I expected or anticipated. I thought two books from Joclyn's POV would make me uninterested in this book, but boy was I WRONG!

The plot was amazing, the characters were amazing, and I just fell in love with everybody even more than before. It didn't even feel like I was missing anything, like the change in POV in comparison to the first two books didn't mean a thing. It was just natural.

You know what I mean? I've come across other book series that have changed the POV after two books and it always turns out horribly wrong like I'm reading about different characters in a different world. This book wasn't like that at all! It all just felt so natural and so right and so perfect!

Gah!!!! I can't wait for the next book!

Starting to Get Darker

As soon as I knew that this book would mostly be through Wyn's point of view, I assumed this book would be darker. I was mostly right. However, I found some pleasant rays of hope along with some well written nuggets of information that made this book more about how to overcome the threatening darkness than about the over-assuming darkness. Good book, fun series.

This story is told from the POV's of Ilyan and Wyn during the time that Joclyn is trapped inside the mind of Cail, which takes place in book two, Eyes of Ember. Being able to see what happens during this time through their eyes adds another layer of depth to this already incredible story! Ethington does a fantastic job of deepening each character, their feelings, their thoughts and emotions.

We see through Wyn's eyes the torture that takes place at the hands of Edmund, her father Timothy and her brother Cail, not only the torture she endures but also that of Sain, Ryland and Talon. The reader takes on the pain and heartache that Wyn feels as she watches those around her wither away to nothing without their magical abilities to heal themselves. She herself is taken to the brink of death.

Ilyan....sigh....he is one incredible person! Not only has he devoted his life to protecting Joclyn for the last 800 years, but he selflessly does all this to protect her for someone else....his younger brother, her mate. Knowing he can't have her as his own, he has to love her from a distance and yet he still gives his whole heart to her knowing she can't return his feelings. This is heartbreaking and yet again I was brought to tears as he sacrifices again and again for her. He truly exhibits what it means to have unconditional love.

Outstanding third book in a series!! I was worried I would be left at the end in the same place book two leaves us. But as a bit more of a teaser, Ethington goes a little further into the story of what happens next after Eyes of Ember and we are left with an even bigger cliff hanger! The reader goes on an emotional roller coaster, fearing the death of several characters, the heartbreak that their friends feel over losing them and the uncertain future of Ryland, Joclyn and Ilyan. Book four, Soul of Flame is sure to be a fantastic continuation!

Favorite Quotes:
"She is bonded to my brother, Dramin. That is a sacred connection and one I would never take advantage of. I will protect her for him. I will keep her safe as my soul calls for me to do, but I will never take her from him. She is not mine. I love her more than I have any other. I love her enough that I would rather see her happy than in my possession. My time will come."

"You are a man beyond words."

I wanted to show her the beauty in the world, not just the sadness. I wanted to give her my heart openly, and I wanted her to take it.

I would wait a thousand more years to experience those sights...

Final Rating - 5 stars

No spoilers or recapping here I just wanted to gush a little. I think I might be a bit obsessed with this series. I seriously fell in love. The story was so refreshing. Heart breaking .. intriguing .. violent. It was everything. One book you're rooting for Ry and Jos and the next you fall so hard for Ilyan. Ilyan Iylan Ilyan. Be still my heart. I did not think I would give up on Ryland so quickly but I did. After Eyes of Ember and even more so in Scorched Treachery Ilyan stole my heart and full support. This series is so beautiful .. full of betrayal ..power .. magic ..love and loss. The writing just sucks you in and holds onto you until even after you are finished. I even got my husband hooked! It is going to be a long fall without the fourth and fifth installment. Thank you for writing such a brilliant series!

I was very nervous to read this book. I knew that Rebecca was a brilliant author, and that she knew what was best for the story. I had loved reading the books and now she was changing it up by giving us the perspectives of two of the other main characters. I have feelings that will never go away. I am so please that Rebecca did this book from a different view. The love, the pain, the care, the everything blew me away. I cried along with Wyn as she saw what was going on from her side, and I cried and smiled when I saw the world from Ilyan's eyes. They each made an impact in this amazing world from Jocelyn's point of view but with their own they took control and gave us such a passionate view for us to know. I recommend this book to everyone. Good Job Rebecca.

A brilliant addition to this fantastic series! Scorched Treachery had secrets, surprises, thrills, and a sprinkle of romance. I loved this book!

For those who have read the series, this book is set in the time when Joclyn is trapped inside Cail's mind and can't get out. While she was battling inside her head, the battle continued outside. And, this book tells us about what happened while Joclyn was away.

Scorched Treachery was told in two point of views: Ilyan and Wyn, so I'll talk about those two first.

Ilyan was as sweet as ever. If you hadn't fallen for him already, you don't stand a chance in this book. He's so sweet and strong and a born leader and totally devoted to his loved ones. Goodness, I just love him. We see more of how he thinks, especially how he thinks of Joclyn, which is why I wanted to swoon over him several times. But, also, we see him as a leader. He's definitely strong and worthy of that title. I adored him in this book.

Wyn was also wonderful. We find out some huge secrets about her past that I never saw coming. Wow. I'm still trying to absorb it all. Her past is definitely messy. But, knowing all that made me appreciate her character as a whole even more. She was strong, loyal, and not someone you want to mess with.

The romance factor was very limited, since any love interests were unconscious. That goes for both narrators. But, it was still there, through the memories and thoughts Ilyan and Wyn had for their loved ones. In both cases, it was sweet.

We see how much of a mess Ryland is in this book. I know he's technically the "enemy" in that he wants to hurt Joclyn. But, seeing what his father does to him, I can't feel anything for him but sadness. He was such an amazing person. And he's been destroyed beyond recognition. It was heartbreaking to see. Just thinking about his fate makes me tear up. I hope that, somehow, he gets a happy ending. I don't know if that's even possible, but that poor guy deserves peace after all he's been through.

The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. There were twists, turns, secrets, and surprises. Prepare yourself, because there are some emotional deaths in this book. The end of this book gets us to where we ended in Eyes of Ember so that we're all ready for the next book. And I can't wait to get my hands on it. I can't wait to read Soul of Flame! After everything that happened in the past two books, it's bound to be amazing.

Scorched Treachery was a brilliant book. I totally loved it! For fans of the series, you won't be disappointed. For those who haven't started this series yet, you definitely should because it's fantastic.

Oh Rebecca Ethington, how you love to torment me. I "suffered" through the amazingness that was Kiss of Fire and Eyes of Ember only to hope that the third book in this series could wrap up my "suffering" in amazingness and let me see the happy ending that is Jocelyn and Ryland figuring out that Edmund is the ass that he his and beating him senseless. Then they could be together in happiness! But NO!! This book is instead a cover all of what happened while Jocelyn is out of it, and also how Ilyan learned he loved her, and what happened to Wyn to make her who she is.

While this book was not as awesome as the first two, I still liked it. It gave me a great insight into the characters that I did not get to know as much in the first two books. So I think that is the route that I will be going down for this review.

Let's start with Ilyan. I have to say that I was team Ryland through both of the first two books. Even when I was thinking that Ryland was a dirtbag and trying to kill Jocelyn, I always had hope that they would pull through and break the "spell" and have an HEA. However, this book shined a light on Ilyan and the love that he has for Jocelyn. He is such a gentlemen and he doesn't want to take advantage of Jocelyn or make light of the feelings that she has for Ryland, but he loves her soooo much. And it is so obvious and sweet. The lengths that he goes to protect her is amazing, even letting the Black Water run over his arms knowing that he could be killed. I appreciate Ilyan more after this book and I hope that he gets the HEA that he deserves, even if it isn't with Jocelyn (I still am team Ryland).

I always thought that Wyn was a flighty girl who was loyal to Jocelyn, but doesn't have any depth. However, I was proved wrong with this book. She is extremely intense and has a such a depressing and sad past that no wonder she has to hide who she really is (of course having her memory tampered with helps). It was so great to learn about Wyn's past and how she got her marks. She was the biggest surprise and in my opinion what makes this book special.

After reading this book, I am even MORE excited to read the next one! I have to know how this series ends!!

The Verdict
While this book is, in my opinion, the "filler" book of this series, it is worth checking out. And I NEVER say that about the filler book. You will learn a lot about the back story of this world and it will make the next book make more sense.

Before reading Scorched Treachery, I was looking at this book as just a filler until Book 4 comes out. I mean Jocelyn isn't the main character in Scorched Treachery and it takes place during the time of Book 2, so I planned on reading this because it is part of the series but I wasn't looking as forward to it as Book 4. I was so wrong about this book! It wasn't boring or repetitive. So much happens and is revealed by telling the story from Ilyan and Wyn's point of views, and I think Wyn and Ilyan rose to a new level of awesomeness here.
In Book 1 I was Team Ryland. I thought Ilyan was a little creepy. Ryland was such a sweetie! Then Book 2 came along. Ryland became broken and so did Joceyln. I don't know how these two could ever become a couple again, not with all the damage done to their relationship. I also saw Ilyan in a new light and I reluctantly switched camps to Team Ilyan. In Book 3, seeing Ilyan's point of view just solidified my move to the Team Ilyan camp. I feel sorry for Ryland, but at this point I don't see how he can be that great guy again.
In Scorched we also see the backstories for Wyn, Cail and Thom. There is so much more to Wyn and I found myself surprised by some of the things revealed.
I liked Book 2 overall, but I did not like the ending. This book goes past the ending in Book 2 and ends on a much better note. That is why Book 3 really compliments Book 2.
I enjoyed Book 3 more than I thought I would...it is now my favorite out of the three. I am really looking forward to Book 4 and reading what happens next.
I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Wow, I needed this! A highly creative, magical story with so many threads of story line that it can go on forever but filled with so much excitement and action that you won't be bored. I just read the 3 books that are available and what a range of emotions I've gone through from hope, to anger, hope again, frustration, love, forgiveness, confusion, sadness, anger again...now I just want to kick Edmunds ass & hope there's a happy ending somewhere but either way I need to know what's going to happen & seriously hate that I have to wait for the next book to come out. Uuugh!! But this series is amazing! I'm now officially a Rebecca Ethington fan!! & it's been quite a while since I've given above a 3 star rating, in fact I've read dozens of books in the past few weeks & haven't even bothered to write a review as they've all blended together to seem like the same old story repeating itself...there's no way you can say that about this unique and fabulously written series! Great job R.E.!

This book is basically book #2, only it's told from Wyn's and Ilyan's perspectives - which I LOVED. Wyn's chapters were difficult as we get to see first hand what is being done to Ryland (and everyone else that Edmund has captured). Ilyan's chapters were heartbreaking as we see everything he experiences while Joclyn is trapped in the touha. Definitely not a light, happy read but I love love LOVED it.

And now, to remove my mind from the world of Imdalind and return to the kids, the laundry, and the husband... until Feb 17th when book #4 comes out. That gives me a few days to get some things done :)

PS - book #1 is still free on Kindle and Nook...

Ok these books just keep getting better and better. Not always the case for sequels. This is the 3rd in the series, and is told from Ilyan and Wyn's point of view. It's the 2nd book told from their perspective, but so much more happens in this book. So many more secrets are revealed, some jaw dropping. Oh, and that COVER! Oh my goodness. I would give this book an extra star just for that cover. I'm on to read the 4th book like right now. It's so refreshing to find a series that is clean yet romantic, gritty, and heartbreaking. Maybe I'm over hyping, but I'm completely in love with this series.

Another great book in this series. So far every book has been wonderful. The story is just perfect so far. This book was mostly in Wyn and Ilyan's views. It was awesome to get inside their heads and feel their struggles and pains. I will be excited to get back to Joclyn's, though.

Reread 3/15 and loved it again! This one is just so sad and torturous for everybody.

Another read. Still good. On to book 4.

A very informative continuation of the Imdalind series.

This book is, in its right, the third book but it also ties up some loose ends from the second. It focuses on Wyn and Ilyan’s stories and you find out a bit more of their stories.

It is a very good book and had me flipping pages as the end drew near. Another excellent job by the author for a wicked story and great plot twists! Again, I cannot fault the world building and structure that has been put into place. I also love the use of the Czech language here and there-google translator has become my new best friend! Bring on number 4!!

I have obviously read the previous books in this series, and I also wrote reviews on those, saying that they started off rather slow, but hooked me by the end. I am happy to report that this book kept me interested from beginning to end and did not seem slow or boring to me at all. It was refreshing to read in Wyn and Ilyans point of views, versus only knowing Joclyn’s point of view.
It was sad and traumatic to realize what Wyn went through down in the caves and how she was tortured. When Edmund froze Wyn’s body, only allowing her to keep her eyes open, it showed just how twisted and wicked Edmund really is. I also thought for sure that Talon was going to be dead since Wyn couldn’t feel him anymore, and I’m still confused why she couldn’t feel him when he was alive, as if their bond had already been broken before his death. It broke my heart when Wyn found out from Sain that Talon would die in the caves and I thought she would have let her anger get the best of her and also pass away in the same place, but I’m glad that she didn’t. The torture they endured, physically and emotionally, was heart breaking and described so well throughout the chapters that I had goose bumps reading about their encounters.
It was rather confusing at the beginning, why Wyn was hearing a girl cry and seeing images of a young girl dancing. At first, I thought she may be seeing Joclyn or herself as a child, dancing around. Then I briefly thought she may just be hallucinating it all and there was no girl, but I was stunned to find out the truth! When Wyn remembers her past life, her daughter she had with Thom and the torture their child endured, I didn’t think she would be able to handle the truth, but I actually think it showed how strong she was and her ability to overcome the truth, even though it was hidden for hundreds of years. Wyn was sent on missions to kill the Drak, but she and Thom had formed a friendship while he raised their daughter Rosaline and they decided to escape together before Edmund killed Rosaline for her lack of fire magic. When Edmund found out, he tortured their child in front of them, quickly losing their loyalty. Thom was able to leave, but Wyn was under Cail’s supervision, but thankfully Ilyan came to save her. Ilyan handed over Thom’s hat, solidifying the fact that Thom was out there. Ilyan asked Wyn to work for him, but Wyn only agreed to help if he erased her memories. This all comes rushing back to her in the cave, including the information that she killed Talon’s little sister. I am bewildered at the idea that Talon not only forgave Wyn, but loved her regardless. This information was SHOCKING. Thankfully, when Edmund unfound her memories, he also unbound her fire magic, making her a dangerous and powerful enemy to keep locked in a cage. I was a bit confused about the stone that Wyn threw up, what exactly was that supposed to be? Was that a representation of the curse being lifted or of Talons magic? I still don’t know the answer to that.
The time spent in the caves really depicts how tortured Ryland was by his father, and how mentally unstable he is. You can see he is fighting it, but losing the battle as he rocks back and forth, cursing Joclyn as well as professing his love for her at the same time. The lies that Cail, Edmund and Ovailia spew to him about Ilyan and Joclyn only help speed up his dark demise as they consume him and blur the lines between reality and deception. It’s truly sad to know how he was in the first book, his care free loving self and how warped he becomes overtime. It was also interesting to finally see that he was never in love with Joclyn, but in love with her power and the power she could give him, whether he knew that was his intention or not. The years of abuse from his father and the constant power hungry man he grew up looking at as a male role model affected him so I believe he thought he loved Joclyn, but subconsciously he was only drawn to her because she was the ultimate source of power.
Finally, when you get to Ilyans part of the story and to hear him speak about Joclyn and his experiences with her, you can see how truly loving and caring he is. As someone so powerful, who gets the maniacal look in his eyes during battle, you’d never expect him to be so soft and gentle. The pain and sadness he feels as Joclyn is stuck in Cails mind was so raw and emotional that I could feel the heartbreak through the pages. A man, towering over the love of his life, mending her broken bones day after day with no end in sight, unable to pull her out of the hell she was trapped in, was depicted very well throughout the chapters. Ilyan had such an internal struggle with deciding to break the bond, only for him to find out the bond was broken and, even without her necklace, Joclyn was still trapped. Her mind, soul and magic was gone, leaving an empty shell of a person for Ilyan to watch over. When Ovailia and Ryland show up and Ryland informs Ilyan that the bond has been broken, Ilyan runs to Joclyn and screams for her to wake up, not understanding where she could possibly be if there is no bond. Eventually Ilyan realizes that there is a Vymazat that has been hidden the entire time, and he is finally able to wake up Jos. Unfortunately, Jos gets woken up at the same time Ryland rushes into the room, sending her into a defensive panic. It was sad to know Dramin knew of his fate, and jumped in front of Ryland to save his life regardless. Now, Jos has to come to grips with the fact that she more than likely killed Dramin.
The entire time Ovailia and Ryland are there, you can tell there is something wrong with both of them. Ovailia is consumed with the need to help her father with his plans and, once again, betray Ilyan. Ryland is an emotional mess, getting wrapped up between the lies and seeing Ilyan care for Jos. Jos is so distraught after being woken up that she can’t see the difference between her manipulation from the Vymazat and the real Ryland, therefore she only wants to kill Ryland and cowers away from him every time he is near, or even mentioned. IT’s sad to see how their bond from the beginning has changed so drastically, but I was happy to see it ends with her becoming closer to Ilyan, the light in her life.
When Wyn and Sain finally show up, it was sad to see Thoms reaction to Wyn being in pain, and holding her as she was dying. The fact that Jos decided she could save her, and was able to use Ilyans magic to force the curse out of her was incredible and proves just how strong she really is. And it also showed how in control of her magic she could be, as Ilyan had said that the magic they were pushing into Wyn should have killed her, but Jos was somehow controlling it so it didn’t. AND the fact that Jos could now speak to Ilyan through their mind, shows just how strong their bond was after using the Black Water to bring her back and already having the Stit in place.
The ending of the book was perfect. Jos says, “I’m not sure if I am fine or if I am broken,” to which Ilyan responds “It’s okay to be both, Joclyn.” And she finally admits she loves Ilyan and kisses him.
Such a good ending and a great story. I can’t wait to read more.

Wow! Ok so I was not expecting to like this book as well as I did the first two, but I think I may have liked it more than them!

Scorched Treachery is book three of Rebecca Ethington's Imdalind series and unlike the first two installments, it is told from the alternating POVs of Ilyan and Wyn during the two weeks that Joclyn is trapped in Cail's mind. Ilyan struggles with the conflicting needs to protect and save Joclyn and protect what is left of his people. Wyn is just trying to survive her imprisonment by Edmund, but learns an awful truth about her past.

This story captured my attention from the beginning! And there are many things that occur that the author warns she will not repeat in later installments so if you are thinking about skipping it don't!! You will regret it. I loved seeing inside Ilyan's mind, feeling his helplessness and utter devotion to Joclyn is both heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. Ugh! and Wyn! The revelations about her character are both shocking and surreal! I knew from reading Eyes of Ember that there was more to her story after Thom's reaction to the news she was captured, but it was nothing at all that I could have predicted. I love it when an author surprises me!

There's not much world-building in this book as it is set around events that have already occurred, however I feel it is an excellent addition to this series. Ahhhh! and the ending! The last few chapters are set after Joclyn awakes and are told in her POV. Let's just say there is a nice little surprise that will keep you on the edge of your seat for book four! Can't wait for Soul of Flames!!!

It was OK. Like other reviewers I was not sure how I would like this novel since it was told from both Wyn and Ilyan's perspective. Despite the fact the Joslyn is not my favorite character, I felt pretty invested in her after two books. It worked, though, because it showed what was happening elsewhere and I think it gave some good background into the abuse and violence Ryland suffered, making him a much more sympathetic character to me. Like others I thought Wyn was incredible and the kind of heroine I like to read about. I really enjoyed her story, particularly her backstory. I guess I'm one of the few people who is not totally gung-ho about Ilyan. I don't dislike him, I'm just not all about him. Is he selfless, certainly. He's only had about 1,000 years to perfect it. I guess I like my guys a little less perfect :) Plus, I do sympathize with Ryland. The guys is 18 and he has gone through absolute hell through the hands of his father, a man he once idolized. I give him credit for his moments of lucidity. I think he's accomplished more than Joslyn. I guess that's my only complaint. Also, this book is VERY violent. I'm pretty surprised that it is only rated mild to moderate and is promoted for young adults. I would much rather have my kids read books with a higher level of sexual situations, particularly as an expression of love and desire. The amount of abuse and violence in this book, particularly in the beginning was so intense for me at times I found myself returning to 50 Shades of Grey for lighter fare. I will continue to read the series. I would like to see how it all unfolds, but I certainly won't recommend it to my teenage nieces :)

It took me longer than usual to finish this book. I think maybe I just wasn't interested in reading a book that I had already read, but with a different narrator (or two). It's not that I don't appreciate reading about Wyn's back story or Ilyan's love for Joclyn, but I was looking forward to reading from Joclyn's POV after she got out of that mind-trap at the end of Eyes of Ember. So I wasn't totally enthralled until the end of Scorched Treachery, when Joclyn woke and saved Wyn. That was the best part!
There's one thing that's been bothering me, though. How the fuck is every one still acting like Joclyn and Ryland love each other? Ryland has tried to kill her on several occasions, and when he's not he's being totally creepy. Joclyn has been through hell and back, and who's been there for her? Not Ryland. All of her experiences with him since the first book have been negative. It's about damn time that she realizes that Ilyan is a much better option for her. Speaking of Ilyan... every time he touches Jos or thinks about kissing her, he reminds himself that she's "not his," or something like that. Which implies that she's Ryland's. As if she belongs to him? She doesn't belong to any one, but if she were to belong to any one it would be Ilyan. They're freaking fated to love each other! Ryland and Joclyn were never really together and even if they were, they definitely shouldn't be now! So why shouldn't Ilyan want to kiss her? But I guess that's Good Guy Ilyan, always being selfless. Ugh, I just want him to be happy.

First off. THE COVER. Wow. Ummm. Have I mentioned that I am Team Ilyan? (But, honestly, who isn't?? Yum.) The cover is probably one of the most epic renditions of a character that I have seen. Usually I cringe at the covers that try to show a beloved character and just... fail. But Scorched Treachery, the cover.... oh the cover. It is the PERFECT Ilyan. The agony, the strength, the hotness. It is all there. So, kudos to you, Rebecca Ethington. You have achieved cover perfection. In fact, I might just frame it. (My husband might get jealous though.)

Okay, okay. Focus. Don't judge a book by its cover, yada yada yada, blah blah blah. But... wait, the book is almost as epic as the cover! I was hesitant, no wait... I was impatient. I didn't WANT to hear about Wyn, I wanted to hear about Jocelyn and Ilyan. But I was NOT disappointed! In how many books do you get TWO strong kick-ass female characters??? Not enough, in my opinion. But in the Imdalind series, you get Jocelyn AND Wyn. The retelling of events through Wyn and Ilyan will add a whole new depth to the series. (Making the next book, which I won't reveal anything about, even more EPICCCC.)

*High five* to Rebecca Ethington for another phenomenal installment! Is it copyright infringement to tattoo the cover of this book to my body? ;)

7/2/18: So far I’m pissed. All Wyn had to yell (instead of run) was Ovailia how could you betray us! And Ilyan would have heard the whole thing. It’s irritating and I have to keep reading...grrrrrr! Okay, I’m all finished again and I’m feeling the same. Not quite enough happened to continue the story, the info we received was good, but not worth the pages and pages of dungeon and torture. I skimmed the crap outta that. I am happy I can read another book though!!

8/28/13-8/29/13: Ok, it was good and lots of people loved it. But I didn't. It was hard to read the secondary perspectives from the time period we had already finished because it was mostly about being tortured. It was just too much for me. I understand that we need to see what happened to them, but it was pages and pages of torture....did not enjoy that. Everything else in the book I did like...but the non-torture parts were maybe a little more than half of the book. Regardless I am excited for the next book and I'm dying for some action to finally really take place. I can't wait to see what all of the filled in gaps, regained memories, torture, death and crazy magic end up causing. I really have no idea what to expect, which is a good sign of an unpredictable book. Well done.

To me this book is full of mixed emotions and I don't really know if I loved it more or less than the other two or not. I mean with me being the Ilyan and Joclyn fan it was my triumph to read about how he finally discovered how he loved her and I couldn't stand it I couldn't resist I just yelled

description

Then not to mention that I felt awful for Wyn, Ryland, and Sain. The stuff that they went through in prison was awful, but no one had it as bad as Wyn. We learn about her past and how she got those strange marks on her body. She loses those who mean most to her and I cried waterfalls when she said her goodbyes

description

The ending came and I just need the next to come out already! February 17 cant get here fast enough

2 stars. (Warning, spoiler to those people who haven't read book 2).
The majority of this book was a recap of book 2, but from other character's points of view. A lot of it, I thought was unnecessary. I thought those recap POV scenes could have been left out and inserted into an extras section on the author's website. While alone it would have been interesting to read, it just didn't mesh well with the book. It didn't feel natural or remotely seamless. For example, Ilyan's shared scenes with Jocelyn were unnecessary since we've already been through them in book 2. From Jocelyn's POV we can pretty much guess how Ilyan feels. We don't need a separate POV of the same scene. We guessed how messed up Ry was from his one encounter with Joc in book 2. It doesn't have to be elaborated when Ry arrives at the house. We get it. The previous imprisonment scenes from Winnefred's POV in the captivity did a pretty good job of showing how messed he was. This was just overkill.

I tried my best to review without spoilers, so I hope I did an adequate job.

~~~~~~4.5 Stars~~~~~~
I really thought that I would be miserable with a book revolving around 2 POVs, one of which I was sure would bore me, based on story we already read in the last book. I mean who really cares about her best friend Wyn's POV right? WRONG! Granted, it was slow in the beginning but it all made sense in the end. Now I can't believe how silly I was to think that we didn't need to know what every other character went through because that is what this book delivers. We even get to understand Cail and his motivations along with some answers to why he's so cracked. This book answers a LOT so hang in there and in the end we are back to Jos's POV and boy is it worth it. I'm headed straight to book #4
