In Endless Vacation, Whittington offers an intricate mystery with an intriguing plot device, adroitly left unrevealed until the latter half of the book.

Questions abound for protagonist and retiring Secret Service agent Dave Fletcher, an Austinite pulled to Mexico to discover why his wealthy Uncle Rex died while vacationing. Fletcher's long-lost brother Hensley appears after a decades-long absence, ostensibly seeking his half of their uncle's 200 million dollar estate. Dave's serious girlfriend wants a commitment, but Dave wants to start his own agency first so that he can provide for them. While pursuing his uncle's killer in Mexico, another woman enters the scene, but she may be the prime murder suspect. As Dave comes to grips with his past, his family, his choices, his job, and his women, he eventually finds what he's looking for, though his weekend excursion proves to be the most taxing vacation he's ever taken.

Hensley offers a bit of comic relief in this otherwise serious work, a slight departure for the author of Welcome to Fred and Muffin Man. As one familiar with the city, I also appreciated the book's Austin references.

While not my normal fare, Whittington writes a compelling story that urges the reader to turn the page, a necessity for any any good mystery.

Dave Fletcher, retiring FBI agent, is in a world of trouble. He is being framed, his Uncle Rex dies and a few hours before his death he changes his will to leave his millions to an unknown nurse in Cancun. His brother who he's been estranged from for 30 years shows up on his doorstep and he's having problems committing to his girlfriend.

I found the characters real. I found Dave singularly focused, not sharing things with those around him sometimes to his own detriment. Hensley, Dave's brother, a carefree wanderer who I found tedious at times but in the end comes through for Dave in the end. Masie is the nurse that was there when Dave's uncle, Rex Stone, died in Cancun. She is a bit naive and Dave's main suspect for Rex's murderer.

Endless Vacation is well written.....As the story goes on more layers of subterfuge are added making it more and more interesting.

For anyone who loves mysteries I would recommend Endless Vacation. I am definitely going to check out more by Brad Whittington.

Fate or Destiny

I wasn't taken right in by the characters but has the story progressed I became their fans. I tried to figure out every twist and turn but the author kept the mystery going and the readers constantly re-guessing. Awesome story about self awareness and making the most of our lives by being true to ourselves.

Life lessons disguised as a thriller. One seriously oddball sibling, another a strait laced retiring agent. Both shaped by their childhood in very different ways. Murder, mayhem, and escape plans, plus an unexpected romance.
