THE LAST KING OF FAERIE, THE FIRST BOOK IN THE WICKED POWERS, WILL BE OUT EVERYWHERE IN FALL 2026.
THE WICKED POWERS IS THE FINAL TRILOGY IN THE SHADOWHUNTER CHRONICLES.
It follows Kit Herondale, Ty Blackthorn, and Drusilla Blackthorn from The Dark Artifices series, as they are drawn into the final massive conflict between the side of demons and the side of angels. Their story drives the narrative, as Dru is pulled into matters of Faerie and the life of Ash Morgenstern and Kit and Ty must solve a mysterious disappearance. Meanwhile Janus, the dark version of Jace Herondale, plots to bring the whole world under his power — along with his demon accomplices, he hopes to rule over everything with Clary Fray by his side. Can Kit, Dru, Ash, and Ty, separated from their friends and family, hope to hold him back?
While these four are our main characters, we’ll also be checking in with so many others — Jace, Clary, Magnus, Alec, Emma, Julian, Mark, Kieran, Cristina, Jem, Tessa — probably for the last time ever! The Wicked Powers calls the whole fate of the Shadowhunters into question, and will change their world forever.
Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.
Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again. Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.
City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.
12/18/2018 Every time I get a notification on this I cringe because of my edgy past self thinking ranting on here was cool. I still stand by my points, I think its dumb for people to be upset that an author wants to keep working on a world and characters that she created and enjoys, and readers like myself want more and more from. That being said after finishing QOAAD I cannot wait until TWP comes out (2022 why are you so far away). But we have plenty of good Shadowhunter books to tide us over until then!
(All the typos in my original "review" yikes!)
Why does Everyone Bitch and Bitch and Bitch about Cassandra Clare Writing more Shadowhunter books. Okay you don't like don't waste your time bitching about it. Why do you spend your valuable time bitching about something you give no shits about, and hate. Okay anyways another thing is I hear tons of bitching about more Shadowhunter books but hear no Bitching about Tamora Pierce who wrote Five Series in here book world Tortall. I mean come on people. Anyways I am excited about this, I am excited about anything Cassandra Clare writes!!! Oh another thing a lot of you guys say that she is milking the cow, I guess she is trying to make more money but its for people like me who want more Shadowhunter books. Anyways a lot of say why doesn't she try and write something different, well she has a another book series coming out that has nothing to do with Shadowhunters!!! Anyways YOU GO CASSANDRA CLARE YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait.. really? Another series? Don't get me wrong. I love Cassandra Clare, but at this point, I'm sort of just like- Is this really necessary? I am completely on board for TLH. Plus, I was fine that the Dark Artifices was going to happen since there was already a prequel, so it made sense to have a series after The Mortal Instruments. But a third new shadowhunter series? This is too much for me. I can't.
You know a part of me wants to applaud her for writing a LBGT relationship, but wait she already did that with the first one. And even though this relationship will be center of the novel, I'm betting there will be lots of shades of Magnus and Alec. Heck, Magnus might even be involved and while I would love to see him more I just..... And let me guess there will probably be a love triangle but this one will be completely unique becuase it involves three guys rather than two. Please. Just please. You can vary it all you want, but it's still the same formula. Same Shadow hunter mythology. There will probably be some special hero who doesn't know just how special he is. And Love interest One will either be a close friend and/or just a nice guy. While love interest two will be a Herondale or another angst induced fanon Draco wannabe. Or maybe the Special someone will be the Herondale or the character with the Herondale personality. Either way there will be a Herondale/Draco Wannabe.
And before you start yammering at me about how I should give Cassie a chance and how I have no right to write this little rant, well 1) I don't care and 2) Seriously, seriously, she hasn't even published the third series yet and she already announced two more.
All I have to say when it comes to cash cows, Cassie Clare has George Lucas beat. And considering how much the Star Wars prequels and Indiana Jones 4 (I hate that freaking movie) sucked that's not a good thing. I only hope that Disney buys out Clare like they brought out Lucas, but that's probably unlikely
jube 2025 the first snippets are here and i could gnaw my own arm off i am so normal about this series
january 2025 guys … one more year until twp year … [insert that disheveled barbie meme here]
december 2023 WE GOT A TITLE.
not me in 2019 thinking this would come out 2022 at the latest … i’m laughing to hide the pain 2025 here we come???
EDIT JUNE 2021 two years later ... still cannot wait. listen, y'all: tiberius blackthorn and kit herondale are my two favourite characters of the shadowhunters!verse. it's been two and a half years and if i think about the wicked powers i get this ache in my chest. i miss them so much that it physically hurts. i can't believe we're going to have to wait what might be two more years until we see eighteen year old ty and kit and i'll have you know i broke down and sobbed over their flower cards for two weeks. each. kit herondale and ty blackthorn my little meow meows because their ship name is fucking kitty, i can't, please, god, i'm losing my sanity
also, can you believe that a gay autistic boy is gonna headline one of the largest ya fantasy series out there? it makes me so emotional every time i think about it.
--------
ummm i cant wait until 2022 for this book cassie please i'm crying
If you don't like Cassandra Clare's writing or do not want to read any more Shadowhunter books then fine! Don't read any but don't come on here just to complain about it!
OKAY CASSIE: You keep on producing more and more shadowhunter series. It's my MOST FAVORITE world EVER created! I will NEVER get tired of them!!!!!! I can't wait, can't wait!!!!!!! Seriously, Clare is my idol!!!!!!!!
P.S., I want more swoon-worthy heroes like Jace and WILL.....bring 'em on!!!!!!! <3
Literally the only thing known about this book is the author -- we don't have a title, a series name, a summary, nothing, just the author -- and it's already up here?
Yeesh, you could at least have the patience to figure out what the plot is before making a page. This feels like someone just had a vague idea and jumped six steps ahead and made a goodreads page before they even started writing.
Una pareja tan adorable, que tiene tanto potencial. Ty tiene Autismo y acaba de perder a su hermana gemela. Por favor Cassandra Clare no los hagas sufrir mucho. Ellos solo merecen ser felices.
So I'm not sure WHY this wan't already on my to read shelf (I didn't realize it wasn't :P) BUT OH MY GOSH I NEED THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!!!!
ADFGHJGFDSGHFDGH I NEED IT!!!!!!!
A list of things I need from it:
(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR QUEEN OF AIR AND DARKNESS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.)
- Cameos from everyone! (Or better yet, some of them being large side characters!) Everyone includes (but is not limited to): All the Blackthorns, Emma, Christina, Kieran, Aline, Jace, Clary, Simon, Izzy, Alec, Magnus, Max and Rafe, Ragnor, Caterina, Tessa, Jem, and Lily.
- The aforementioned everyone (and of course Ty and Kit) to SURVIVE. Ideally relatively unscathed.
- TESSA AND JEM'S KID!
- Zara to die. (Sorry not sorry.)
- TY AND KIT TO ADMIT THEIR FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER AND KISS ALREADY!!!!
