Gwyn Jacobs doesn’t believe in fairy tales. Ever since her ex-husband walked out, leaving her alone with three small children, Gwyn has been mother, father, and bread-winner all rolled into one. Her own scarred heart aside, she refuses to open up her children’s lives to the possibility of another heartbreak, and so she has an unbending policy of no dating and no unattached men in their lives.
Until her very own fairy tale falls into her lap...and the hero won’t take no for an answer.

Such a sweet story with heart pounding scenes balanced very nicely with sweet tender ones between Gareth and the kids. I absolutely loved this and can't wait to read the next one! This is free on Amazon right now and I can't recommend it enough!
"I'm too old to believe in fairy tales, Gareth," she said quietly. "And my kids are too young to have to stop believing in them."
Setting aside the dialogue that tips the cheesy scale a few times too often, the severely dated character details on the hero (because, seriously, what man can pull off a ponytail at 42 in 2013 and not get any grief?) and the pathologically stereotypical plot progression…
This was a pretty decent read.
This was, for all intents and purposes, a fairytale story between 42-year old Welsh actor Gareth Connor who suddenly finds himself in a small town in Ottawa falling in love with 35-year old single mother of 3 Gwynneth Jacobs and her baggage. Except Gareth has his own kind of baggage not including the silly double Gs between their names.
The plot is so familiar I may or may not have watched a Dennis Quaid movie about it and yet, I couldn't help but be utterly charmed by the unassuming delivery of the story. There are a lot of soapbox-worthy issues here that were foregone in favor of the uncomplicated storyline which I really REALLY liked. Not every story about a single mother finding a second chance at love need to be an opportunity to celebrate feminism and I'm happy that the heroine in this one was likable enough on her own to not need any of that added flavor. Sometimes I just want some fluffeh adult-style and this one pretty much brought it.
I may hate her name a little but as a heroine, Gwyn was pretty awesome. I'm not a parent, but I find her dealing with the difficulties of being a single mother of three realistic and utterly refreshing. The attraction between the protagonists may be instant but the progression of their relationship was believably paced. And while the conflict between and within the characters were hardly original, I liked how it was handled logically and maturely.
The ending was a bit contrived and felt a bit too cinematic. could easily be the end to any Sandra Bullock movie. Hmmm, now I'm beginning to wonder if this was a 90s Sandra Bullock movie with Dennis Quaid, but I digress. Gareth's dialogue could've also reined in the cheese but then he's an actor so I'm giving him a pass. Though I can imagine Katie (Gwyn's eldest) snarking against it a few years down the line.
I do wish the author would update some of the character details, and twists on this one. I think it was published first in 2010 under a different title but something about the story screamed 90s to me. Because some readers may be turned off by the dated feel of the story and miss out on the enjoyable moments this book did bring.
Dennis Quaid appears in this review because of Kim.

This is my first read by this author and the start of the Ever After series.
Gwynn is a mother of three who is trying her hardest to work and provide for her kids. She stays clear of men to protect her heart. That is until Gareth enters her life.
I thought this was a well written sweet story. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
Gwynneth Ever After by Linda Poitevin is a 2014 Michem publishing publication. I was provided a copy of this book by e reader discovery review book club in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute, feel good, love story that made me smile.
Gwynneth ( with two n's), is a single mother of three and Gareth is a famous Hollywood actor who meet by chance and strike up a friendship.
But, the last thing Gareth expected to happen while he was hiding out at at his cousin's home in Canada, was to find himself falling in love with Gwyn, and her children too. But, Gareth is carrying a heavy secret around with him and when things start to become real with Gwyn, he can't tell her the truth, which of course will come back to haunt him.
As for Gwyn, she has her hands full with three kids.. enough said. Their father simply walked away, leaving Gwyn and the kids behind without a backward glance. While she keeps her head up most of the time, she still harbors resentment and fears being hurt again. She would have trouble in any new relationship with a man, but a famous Hollywood movie star? It goes without saying that the road could be a rocky one for Gareth and Gwyn.
I am always delighted to see women past their twenties in a romantic lead ( although one character referred to Gwyn as middle aged, but she is only in her thirties) and Gwyn came across as a normal person with routine issues we can all relate to, especially when it comes to raising kids. She is also a strong woman working hard to put her romantic and relationship disappointments behind her, but her situation was very hard, and one can't fault her for having a moment or two of doubt or panic.
Although Gareth is a movie star, he doesn't behave like one, meaning he's not self absorbed, or an egomaniac. In fact, he is quite loveable and watching him interact with Gwyn's children was very bittersweet.
I loved the slow build up in the relationship between two gun shy people from vastly different worlds. I'm not a big fan of stories with small children featured in them, but Gwyn's children were adorable, adding another layer of enchantment to the story.
This story is a low key romance novel, with some minor angst, some understandable issues with trust, and some stop/start moments along the way. There is nothing overly dramatic, nothing too heavy, no lump in the throat moments, and is pretty light fair, but it's classy and oozes with understated charm and overall was quite a delightful story.
4.5 stars This was a wonderful read for me. It was a great break from angst, danger, mystery or anything else other than slow sweet love. Don’t misunderstand there were issues to deal with, but they were handled without over the top drama. It slowly builds from beginning to end.
Gwyn is raising three children on her own and is a very strong woman that has been badly hurt and betrayed. I really liked the fact that she didn’t fall for Gareth right away. I mean she knew who he was, who didn’t? She put her children first in all things, even over herself. As a mother I get that, but towards the end I wanted to scream at her to get over it and do something for herself. The fact that her ex left her, not to mention the way he did it had left a pretty big scar on Gwyn’s heart. When she finally lets someone in he unavoidably causes her pain and she pushes Gareth away and tells him it’s over.
Gareth is in town for a reason no one can know, and he sure didn’t expect to fall for anyone. That was before he sat next to “Gwynneth with 2 ns” during a local play. He was let into her life slowly and he wasn’t leaving. He had to fight Gwyn’s reluctance at almost every step, but he did. After he realized he had found the love of his life, it all gets away from him. The reason he’s in town becomes known. On the evening news no less, and Gwyn feels betrayed and lied to. Gareth fights, begs, and anything else he can think of to get Gwyn to let him back in, but despite knowing the truth and why he couldn’t tell her she of course says no. Gareth, not knowing what else to do gives in and books a flight to leave town. Of course that isn’t the end of the book, but I will not spoil that for you.
I loved this amazingly sweet love story, especially the fact that it took it’s time to build up to the conclusion. They got to know each other and Gareth came to know Gwyn’s fears and insecurities enough that he could mostly work around them. Don’t get me wrong the attraction between them was obvious and intense from the beginning, but they took it slow. I felt for Gwyn as she faced and worked through her excruciating fear of the pain of loss and living through it again.
This is a stand-alone, no cliffhanger! I wouldn’t mind more of Gwyn and Gareth though.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I think the stars are a pretty good indication...but i have to say it in capital letters and screaming at the top of my lungs (i'm a little introverted so bear in mind, that I'm doing it inside my head, cough...):
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
And lately i'm not the kind of person who enjoys contemporary stories. But this one won me over!!
The writing, the fluidity of the story, the characters, their feelings, reactions, for me it was all spot on!! It was sweet, but without being too sweet, if you know what i mean... Likable characters with realistic problems and situations that one can connect with.... (not that i have two...i mean three kids....but...you know!!)
The romance...OH GOD, those two were so perfect for one another!!! I adored their dialogues and their sizzling stares (lol) and the way Gareth left me with stars in my eyes!! If only one could go to the next....ah, store and say: Can i have a Gareth, please? O_O
Oh my GOD!! I'm going to regret having written this review on the after glow of the reading!! But it's the truth!! Or maybe i'm just happy and in a good mood....
WHO CARES?? If you like romances _or even if you don't!! _ with strong dreamy characters that will leave reality at bay for awhile, GO READ this book!!
He ignored her. His hand slipped beneath her hair and cupped her neck, and she sucked in a quick breath. He stroked his thumb along the curve of her jaw, his focus shifting to her mouth. Protest died on her lips. And then he kissed her. A gentle, unhurried kiss. A kiss that reached inside to touch her in astonishing ways. A kiss that deepened, hungered, and warmed every corner of her – “It’s not that gross!” Nicholas yelled, presumably at his sister in her bedroom. Then, in a cheerful, only somewhat quieter voice, he called over the upstairs railing, “Thanks, Gareth. You can stop now.”
LOL
Oh, oh and one last thing: I would really like to have this book in paperback!! So are you listening, all you publishing houses out there?? Paperback please!!
Gwynneth the single parent of three children finds herself in close quarters with a movie star.
A bit star-struck, she plans to treat him normally.
Gareth is a bit intrigued by this woman. Older and more mature than other women he has dated (although younger than him by seven years), he takes her out to coffee.
It was a lovely romance novel. A persistent hero and a heroine who has been burned too badly before.
What I loved about these characters was that they were mature. It was a nice change from the banality of overly-love-struck main characters.
This was a very sweet, adorable contemporary romance. I loved the premise and found myself wrapped up in it right from the beginning. Gwyn and Gareth were both wonderful characters. I loved that the underlying theme was the fairy tale romance; single mother of three attracts the attention of a movie star, even though she doesn't believe in happily ever afters.
Though I found much of it to be wonderful, it was flawed. I didn't understand why the heroine all of a sudden become mute halfway through the book. She stuttered and stumbled and and blushed, but didn't speak. Where's the strong woman I was beginning to love from the 1st half of the book? And why didn't the hero just tell her his secret? In the beginning his reasons were understandable, but I have no idea why he kept them so long.
While I appreciate her wanting to protect her kids, her logic is very flawed. Breaking off a relationship to save her kids from possible heartache in the future is beyond sketchy. I'd have had more respect for her if she'd had a real reason, instead of a contrived one.
Luckily she realized her mistaken thinking and set about making it right. In the end I can't help but feel this book is a hidden gem. Even though it had flaws, I stayed up late and finished it in one sitting.
This was a sweet story. It had its share of drama and heartache, but also hope and love.
Gwyn has 3 kids and does not want to let a man come close. Totally understandable cos her ex was an ass. She is hardworking and loves her kids. They are a perfect family (which means normal, messy and real.) Then she meets a guy, a famous actor. Yes not really the man of her dreams. But Gareth has his own soul searching going on. I did like the way they fell for each other. It felt real. She was not like the airheads he was used to meeting. And with the whole drama he had going on I am sure it helped to fall for her.
But yes I have mentioned drama. He is a famous actor, she is a nobody with 3 kids. He lives far far way, her whole life is in Canada. She can't just let anyone come in to their life when she has kids, she had to think about them too. And he has a secret. But the title has ever after in it, it's not a spoiler that things will work out and the ending was cute. Very movie like.
A sweet (I said it again! lol) story that I read fast. Love is always wonderful. And I liked him homey it felt.
I loved this adorable romance! I devoured it while on vacation and was left with such a feel good feeling. The story begins with Gwynneth, a divorced mother of 3 children, who goes to the theater to sketch different scenes as a birthday gift for a friend. She is supposed to have a private box but ends up sharing it with Gareth, a gorgeous Welsh actor. There is an instant attraction for this persistent hero and hesitant heroine. As Gareth pushes his way into Gwynn's life, she keeps him at arm's length to avoid another heartbreak for her children and herself. It melts her heart when he quickly becomes attached to the children and the routine of their daily lives. However, Gareth has a secret and Gwynn feels betrayed upon learning of it. Can Gareth show Gwynn that he loves her and can be trusted? Linda Poitevin gives us an incredibly sweet love story with real characters and a very believable relationship.
Goodness, where to start?? I didn't expect to like this story as much as I did, I'm usually more of a horror/paranormal reader but this sounded good and it was an excellent read. I was worried it was going to be a sappy, gooey love story but it's actually pretty complex which kept it from being too saccharine. I found myself rooting for Gareth and Gwynneth throughout the story, and actually cheered at the ending which embarrassed my ten year old son to no end! Very well done!
Favorite Quote: “He should definitely walk away. He’d be a fool if he didn’t. And perhaps a greater fool if he did.“
Gwyn Jacobs doesn’t believe in fairy tales. Ever since her ex-husband walked out, leaving her alone with three small children, Gwyn has been mother, father, and bread-winner all rolled into one. Until her very own fairy tale falls into her lap…and the hero won’t take no for an answer. (Goodreads)
I have always loved fairy tales. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White…I can tell you word for word their entire stories. As I’ve gotten older, my love for the “happily ever after” has matured and evolved. I enjoy the watching the journey from attraction to love. Seeing the pitfalls normal everyday adults face when trying to find someone to share their life with makes the reading all the more worthwhile.
Gwynneth Jacobs is a single mom whose ex husband left her after she gave birth to their twins. His abandonment was not only heart shattering but left Gwyn in the non compromising position of being mother, father, and the main support for her three children. From the moment he left, Gwyn made herself a promise. She will never allow herself to become that vulnerable again and will never allow another person to hurt her children like their father did. When she meets Gareth, a famous Hollywood actor, she is amazed at his normalcy. Gareth, struggling with his own problems; a difficult ex wife, the never ending stalking by the paparazzi, and a deep guilt ridden secret, feels an instant connection with Gwyn. Though he is only in town for a few weeks, he wants to get to know Gwyn and explore the connection between them.
As Gwynneth and Gareth get to know one another, more of Gareth pushing his way into her life while Gwyn struggles with her convictions, we get a sweet fast moving romance that erupts among the messiness of real life. Some drama and angst tests the fragility of the new romance without overwhelming you. Though this happens all in the span of two weeks, you are given a full bodied story in which Poitevin uses her formattable writing skills to impart plenty of emotion in a full range of personable characters.
I enjoyed watching Gareth and Gwyn fall in love. It’s not an easy journey and Gwyn doesn’t make it any easier. Yet, you can’t blame her. Especially when the story behind her ex husband’s departure is fully revealed. Not only is she betrayed but so are the children and that is what is unacceptable. Only her strong will, indelible spirit, and a very strong support group keeps her going those first few years. I’ll admit in getting to know Gareth, I fell for him myself. A wonderful alpha/beta mix, Gareth isn’t the typical spoiled actor. His ways of helping Gwyn isn’t throwing his money or fame around, but giving her something much more valuable. His time and attention. The oatmeal in bathtub scene cemented it for me. Soon, Gareth’s presence is both welcomed and discouraged by Gwyn. Her children like Gareth and when the attachment becomes stronger each time they are all together, Gwyn begins to have second, third, and fourth doubts about their relationship. She doesn’t see why a gorgeous famous man such as Gareth would want to be with her-a nobody with three kids.
This is one area I had issues. Gwyn’s doubts became tedious at times. It’s okay to be wary and cautious. Especially when you have been hurt in the past. Add kids to the mix and suddenly it’s a whole new ball game. As a parent, my child will always come first in my life. Hurt her and I’ll come down on you like the four horsemen of the apocalypse. So, I understand where Gwyn was coming from. But you can only use that pain as a shield for so long before you realize that it does more damage than good. I understood her reluctance and disbelief of Gareth’s true intentions but in the same breathe I found all that dragged me down as it lasted almost the entire book. Entire scenes of back and forth, back and forth. It’s only towards the end when she realises that Gareth has finally bowed to her wishes that she realises she can’t live without him. Frankly, she wore me out at times.
The supporting characters were a welcome addition to the story and go far in showing us an intimate view of our protagonists in their interactions and dialogue. Sandy is Gwyn’s best friend and has her back throughout the entire book. I liked her subdued approach in giving advice. Gareth’s cousin Sean is a lot like Gwyn’s friend, Sandy. Low key and firmly wants Gareth to just be happy in life. I enjoyed the reveal of Gareth’s “big secret” and the help Gwyn and Gareth receive from a very unlikely source. The kids are delightful and play a strong role in the story. The ending is predictable but the journey was fun to read about.
All in all, this is a perfect beach read that gives you a sweet romance without an overly complicated storyline. An engaging story that divulges to the realism of falling in love with baggage and once again assures us all that everyone has a chance at their “happily ever after.”
What a cute book. I like stories about celebrities, and I liked Gareth. The ending was a bit much, but overall, I enjoyed this beautifully written romance.
What a sweet novel. I felt so good reading this book. I felt even better after reading. It was a simple and quick read. I knew how it would end, but it didn’t ruin my enjoyment at all because this book appealed to the mature woman, the mommy and the hopeless romantic in me. If you love second chance HEAs, this book is for you.
Gwynneth (with two “N”) Jacobs was a single mother of three. She was working hard as an architect and doing her best to balance work life with home life.
One day on a project, she meets a guy and they hit it off. Little did Gwyn know she met mega star Gareth Connor, who was hiding out from the press. When she does find out who he is, Gwyn figures that there is no way someone like him would be interested in someone like her. After all, she comes with baggage: a failed marriage and 3 young children.
In the predictable romance world, of course Gareth meets and charms her kids, which melts her heart, and also manages to know how to play blocks, mediate sibling disputes and have fun with little kids.
I know many people will find just about everything about this book predictable…but I can relate to a lot of it. As a Gwyn struggles to feed her kids on a tight budget; she struggles to make her kids activities even though she is just one person; she is very careful not to let just anyone around her kids so she doesn’t confuse them or create unnecessary attachments; she often puts herself and her needs late so her kids can feel secure. I just wanted to give his woman a hug because we have all been there. But she handled herself like a trooper.
I also enjoyed Gareth’s moments with Gwyn’s kids. They were cute and heartwarming. The storytelling was great, the pace was great and it wasn’t overly emotional. Gareth’s secret was about as “angsty” as it got and I didn’t really think it was much of a secret.
I loved the romance, the writing and family dynamics in this one. This is what I expect out of contemporary romances. If you love chick flick movies, then you will like this book.

A real feel good simple romance here :) I love those, I'd just been reading some dark fantasy and needed something light and loving to counteract the deep emotions I was feeling. Gwyn and Gareth did just that. Gwynneth had been badly let down when her ex left days after she'd had their twins, leaving her with three young children. She'd rarely dated in the four years since then not wanting to give her kids a procession of men through their lives. When she's at the local theatre one Sunday afternoon sketching a scene for a surprise present for her best friend, she's amazed to see film star Gareth in the box with her. He steamrollers her into having coffee with him, and from there they start going out “just as friends” Gwynneth insists but Gareth manages to make it more – so much more, slowly wearing down her defences. What he hasn't and can't tell her is the real reason he's in her town, thousands of miles away from his home in England. Of course the truth comes out at a most inopportune moment leaving Gwynneth feeling betrayed and Gareth having to work hard to win back her trust. Can he do it though? Will she just let him go for her family sake despite the love they both feel? It's a well told story, with surprises all the way and playing on our emotions. I understood Gwyn's need to protect her family, and also Gareth’s determination not to let go what he felt they could have between them there were some really humorous scenes tucked away in between the drama, when the kids were involved “ mummy, are you and Gareth going to kiss?” The story takes place over a short time period, about two weeks, but there's a lot packed in. As well as Gwyn and Gareth we meet a few of Gwyn's friends, Gareth's cousin Sean, and a couple more people Gareth knows so quite a small cast but that suits the short time span.
Well written and edited, it's priced at £2.06 for 243 pages on kindle so good value. Stars: good solid four, a great book for traditional romance lovers who want the HEA.
Such a refreshing change to read about a relationship in my own age bracket! I really loved this love story. Set in a city far away from the bright lights of Hollywood, we meet Gwynneth and her adorable 3 children. Gwyn has been both parents to her 3 children since their father walked out of their lives and Gwyn has guarded her heart and fiercely protected her family ever since. She has let no one into her heart or home for fear of them being hurt again. Now throw one Hollywood superstar, namely Gareth Connor into the mix, and the tight hold Gwyn has on the walls around her family and heart are tested.
Gareth too, has had his share of heartache. He guards his heart and his privacy from the prying eyes of the public, finding it hard to trust women's motives, worried that they are only with him because of his on screen persona. What was a chance meeting leaves them both feel a connection so unfamiliar that it throws both of them for a loop. There is a chemistry between them, breaking through their barriers and inviting them to learn to trust and love again.
Gwyn has a great support system in her best friend Sandy and I loved their open and honest relationship. Sandy was there for all Gwyn's relationship breakdown and knows only too well the toll that it has taken on Gwyn and the kids. Gareth is staying in town with his cousin Sean, who has seen the toll fame has taken on Gareth and I also liked their relationship.
I thought the pace was perfect as we witnessed the blossoming of the relationship between Gwyn and Gareth, the doubts and fears that the relationship would work and how they worked through these issues. Overall it was a very sweet, love story, a great book to read at any time.
I LOVED This book. I read an excerpt on the author's web page and was impressed. Actually I was caught up and desperately needed to finish the story. The author let me know it was available on Net Galley and I immediately requested it. I read the book every moment I had free. Okay I stayed up until I finished it, (I am writing this at 4:20 AM). This is a light romance between a single mom of a three and a famous Hollywood actor. She has issues that deal with her husband abandoning her and the children which translates to lonely but not looking for love and one night stands are not happening. He has an ex-wife who convinced him to let her have sole custody of his daughter, a decision he regretted immediately but she forced him to keep. Our couple meet accidentally while he is in her town waiting to meet the daughter he never had a chance to know. His ex is in total control of that meeting - or so she thinks. This isn't your typical let's rush into everything romance. The single mother issue is taken seriously. It was interesting to read the actor's side of things too. I did wonder if the author had personal knowledge of how a celebrity's life can be or if she just thought it up. Either way I thought she did a great job. There are two points of view, some steam towards the end, (though not really graphic - it was tasteful steam), fun family scenes and enough tension that I was pulled to keep reading. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for letting me read and review this book.

I believe this story is a self-published novel (although I could be wrong) and it is very well written. Unlike alot of self-pub's it is not full of spelling and grammatical errors and the story flows beautifully. The main characters are well developed and after the first couple of chapters you are utterly enchanted and absorbed into the life of Gwyn.
This is what I'd call a "grown up" romance. Gwyn - our leading lady - is a 35 year old single mother of 3. Gareth is a 42 year old Hollywood star. They meet by chance at a theatre, in a small town somewhere in Canada, and the relationship develops from there.
The relationship between the two is very sweet and despite Gareth being a Hollywood superstar it is believable. It feels real. It's warm, homey, and generally very domestic but not at all boring.
I really liked and respected both Gwyn and Gareth and from the very beginning you are hoping they will get together and that they'll be happy... There are ups and downs but in the end you are not left disappointed. The last two chapters of this book were a little bit daft. They read like the grand finale of a film were the cast gather for the big hurrah... But I read them with a huge grin on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling wrapped around me cause the book was awesome and the ending was simply perfect. My only complaint? No epilogue. I really do love epilogues but you can't have everything :)
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC received from the Author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Let me start out by saying that I don't read contemporary romances, but knowing I enjoyed Linda's writing style, I decided to give Gwynneth Ever After a shot and not hand it off to one of my guest reviewers like I would normally do. I am so happy that I did. The book was fantastic! I couldn't put it down, the characters became instant favorites, and the story was simply beautiful.
Gwynneth Jacobs was working hard to put her life back in order after her husband walked out on her and their 3 children. After a simple night out throws her in the path of her dream man, her ordinary life becomes anything but ordinary... To Gwynn's astonishment, Gareth pursues her and almost instantly creates this fairy tale life for not only her, but her kids as well. The problem: it all seems too good to be true, and Gwynn being the very practical woman she is and knowing her family comes first, Gareth has a fight on his hands to convince her to take a chance on him.
Gwynn is like any hard working single mother, and it was very easy to relate to her throughout all of the ups and downs of the tale. Gareth is impossible not to fall in love with; he has it all and then some! Gwynneth Ever After was a super sweet contemporary romance that was able to win over a reader who said she just couldn't read Contemp, and left me with nothing but a smile.
Gwynneth Ever After is a lovely contemporary romance novel that is set in Canada.
An ordinary single mother, Gwynneth has built her life around her three young children, working as an architect from her home, so that she can meet their needs. While attending a play that was written by a friend, she accidentally meets Gareth Connor, a famous actor who is visiting the area and finds herself drawn to him, despite herself.
This story is notable for the quiet normal life of its heroine. She works, takes care of her children and home and juggles financial and maintenance issues, just like any single mother would. Many of the scenes are centered, not around glamor, but in quiet moments with which we can identify, because we live in moments like that daily.
The author, Linda writes with a descriptive flair that makes even the normal and small moments special. We have all had those times when we're just doing what we usually do and then a tiny thing happens and we suddenly realize how important that moment is? She manages to convey that in well-chosen words, drawing a vivid picture that keeps us involved in her story.
One line in particular stood out for me: "A sudden, icy blast of wind sliced through thoughts he knew he had no business having,"
This is a well-written book and a calming, enjoyable read.
How many of us have fantasized what we would say if we ended up next to our favourite movie star? I know I would be star struck, as much as I would love to be calm, cool, and collected. And that is exactly what happens to Gwynn. In the midst of her very hectic life as a single mom, Gwynn catches the attention of a Hollywood hearthrob.
I love that Gwynn doesn't immediately fall head over heels - her family comes first, and Gwynn struggles to balance her happiness with what she believes is the right thing to do for her kids.
This book has a slow simmer of romantic tension - making their relationship feel very real and interesting. As always, Linda Poitevin makes her characters seem very real - the kind of people you wish you knew in real life. (Or the people you wish you could be in real life!) I read a lot of romance novels, and I am often frustrated by the inevitable drama that keeps the couple apart, or the games that the couples inevitably play hiding their feelings for each other. It was refreshing that throughout, Gwynn remained the same strong character - and her fairy tale hero better learn to deal with it!
If you are looking for a fun, light read for the beach - this is the book for you. I hope there is a sequel because I want to know what happens next in these peoples lives.
Poitevin is doing this as a free serial read on wattpad - there are a fair number of chapters up right now but it only took me three or so to get hooked and succumb to the one-click.
The leads are very appealing: a single mother of three young kids who is an architect and a handsome Welsh actor who is in supposed to be staying off the radar in her Canada home town while he waits to conduct some personal business. They meet at the theatre and he's charmed by her and the fact that she doesn't swoon over his stardom, and she is offkilter enough from little mishaps during the evening that she breaks her no dating rule and they find that they are comfortable with each other.
The strength of the story is that both characters are exceedingly likable and he is really a prince charming who clicks with her kids - and who isn't put off by them and is more than willing to lend a hand when kid reality impinges on their dates. I am not a regular reader of contemporary romances but even with the expected glitch on the way on the way to their HEA this was enough of a 'fairy tale' romance to be right up my alley.
I enjoyed Gwynneth Ever After and thought it was totally worth buying but here's the link to the free serial for those who don't mind waiting for the next episode...
This is an incredibly sweet, contemporary romance, heavier on the build-up, milder on the sex.
This book kind of reminds me of the movie Notting Hill, but in reverse and with kids.
Gwyn is a 35 year old single mother of 3 who doesn't have time to worry about a man in her life. By happenstance she meets Gareth Connor, British Actor, who's visiting his family in Canada for a few weeks. She's completely swept off her feet by him, of course who wouldn't be, um hello...and can't understand why he would be interested in her. He finds her honesty and the fact that she's down to earth and real the most attractive thing about her.
It's a simple story, that works well. I really liked the fact that Gwynn is very independent and not at all whiny in my head, which could have easily happened in this type of story. The romance between them unfolds quickly but in a very believable, fairy tale come true kind of way and I'm always a sucker for a good HEA!
I think fans of Kristan Higgins, Sheryl Woods, or Debbie Macomber will probably find a new author to add to their must read list in Linda Poitevin.
After being abandoned by her husband Gwynneth (with 2 n's) devotes her life to her three children, making sure they and herself are safe from ever being abandoned again. Then a chance encounter with Gareth Connor movie star changes everything. Gareth manages to become a part of her and her children's lives inspite of her mistrust but Gareth has a secret that will test and possibly destroy Gwyn's trust. Can Gareth show Gwyn that he loves her and her children and would never be like her ex-husband or will Gwyn push him away? I loved this story and normally I don't go for the strictly romance but this one pulled me in from the first encounter at a theatre. The characters are likable and fully developed. Besides the emotional aspect of the story line there is humor running through almost every page. You will fall in love with Gwyn's children (adorable 4 yr old twins and sweet curious 7 yr old girl) and be rooting Gareth on. If you enjoy humor and romance combined with a serious look at learning to trust again after being hurt I would recommend this story full heartedly.
Sometimes you need a heartfelt, sighing, sweet romance, and this is book fits the bill perfectly. This is such a satisfying romance, and as a bonus, features several very realistic children characters.
Children characters in romance books tend to be either absent or seriously stereotyped. The children in this book are very much fully developed and realistic, and add a touch of homey amusement to the story. It made the romance that much sweeter because it felt possible.
Gwyn’s situation was realistic and believable, and while meeting a hunky movie star isn’t very believable, it is the stuff of dreams, and romance stories. I really loved everything about this book and it made a great fantasy getaway as my weekend read.
I sincerely loved this story. It was so cute to see a guy be so good with Gwyn's with two n's kids. Her children Katie(7) and twins Nicolas and Maggie(4) were adorable. So she meets the famous British actor Gareth Connor at a theatre performance where Gwyn is clumsy as ever sketching during the whole performance but leaves Gareth entrances in this beautiful woman. Her car proceeds to not be running so he offered to take her for coffee and then home. He is super kind to her and can't halo but smile about how stubborn she is to ask for help. He meets the kids and falls more in love with her. They go out to dinner and continue to fall in love. He comes over when she doesn't call him back but she has the youngest daughter Maggie in the house ill with the chicken pox. He proceeds to help her handle the kids and tells Nicolas to play dot to dot on Maggie which was creative! She decided later in the book the relationship should end because it could never work with his wild acting schedule. He doesn't wanna give the relationship up so he proceeds to romance her into changing her mind. After learning that her ex walked out after finding out about the twins being born he feels guilt about his 16 year old daughter he signed the rights from away. He tells her he loves her and then is honest and shatters her but she understands. She thinks she is ready to end it for good. He is on the way to the airport when she realizes she is wrong and she loves him too much to give him up. Turns out he wasn't headed to the airport but her house. The end up in some hullabaloo and when she gets home he proposed and it was so cute! Up next is the wedding book!
A cute story but it needed more romance. It is a romance book after all. While I could see why Gwyneth fell for Gareth as he was amazing with her kids, I don’t see why Gareth was supposedly so in love with her. All I really know about Gwyneth is that she is divorced with 3 kids, is mistrustful about men and relationships because her husband walked out a week after she gave birth to the twins, and that she’s a successful architect who works from home. As Sean, his cousin asks, “why her out of millions of other women he could have?” What’s so special about her? The whole thing with her getting mad about finding about Amy was ridiculous. They hadn’t know each other very long and he made promises to his ex-wife and daughter about not telling ANYONE about her. At least not until after he met her and they decided together how to move forward in each other’s lives. They hadn’t yet even met. Also, the story needs to be updated. I think the author wrote this in the 90s and didn’t publish it until 2013. She refers to rolling the car window down, her friend, Sandy not owning a cell phone (who doesn’t have a cellphone nowadays?!), she talks on her landline phone, calls Gareth on Sean’s landline phone, she goes up to the gate at the airport? (I don’t know about Canada but in the U.S you’re not able to do that anymore, not after 9/11!). Those are things I remember, but I think there were a few other things that made the book seem like it was written in the 90s.

It’s tough to write a romance featuring a single mother of three young kids. I applaud Poitevin’s balancing act in that regard, although I felt the story tipped into too much of the mundane motherhood tasks at times (sick kids!), at the expense of the romance, which then felt less… sexy (for lack of a better word).
Yes, Gareth is a famous actor, but aside from having to leave for a few days and one scene when his daughter is hounded by paparazzi, he could have been John Doe. His big secret is one that any man could have. That was slightly disappointing; if I’m reading a celebrity character, I want more immersion in his/her celebrity world. He was a little too good to be true with the kids and the chaos, especially considering he was still single at age 42.
There is such a thing as *too* much “won’t take no for an answer” and it was nearing the tipping point for me by getting redundant and annoying, making Gareth a little too wimpy and whiny. I kept waiting for the kids to say or do something to make Gwynneth realize she should give their romance a chance (that would have been more interesting than the way she did). But happily, the heroine makes a grand gesture at the end to obtain the HEA.
This was one of the free books that I have in my Kindle and after reading the synopsis, I was intrigued. In this book, we meet Gwynneth (with two n's) and Gareth. Our lead girl character is your typical suburban mom. She is a single mom but seems to be able to handle, albeit barely, the demands of both the homemaker and the breadwinner. And then there's Gareth, who is a famous actor that just so happens to be "vacationing" in Gwyn's hometown for two weeks. They have a pretty cute meetup moment in the beginning, and that is my favorite part of the book. From there, the story just didn't seem that pressing for me to finish, hence the almost one month period it took me to get to the end of their story. I liked the idea of second chance love that both got in this book, especially with the addition of children in the mix. It's very relatable in our modern time. I admire Gwyn for having the courage to think about her children first, but in the end, I think she was a bit too afraid and that's why she almost lost her chance for love. Gareth was an ok male protagonist. I like the fact that he didn't give up on Gwyn but in the end, you can only take so much rejection before you fall away too. In the end, they find their happy ending.
