Rate this book
Seventeen-year-old Skylar has been haunted for as long as she can remember by fleeting yet powerful sensations that something is horribly wrong. But despite the visions of disaster that torment her, nothing ever happens, and Sky’s beginning to think she’s crazy. Then she meets a mysterious, otherworldly boy named Win and discovers the shocking truth her premonitions have tapped into: that our world no longer belongs to us. For thousands of years, life on Earth has been at the mercy of alien scientists who care nothing for humans and are using us as the unwitting subjects of their time-manipulating experiments. Win belongs to a rebel faction seeking to put a stop to it, and he needs Skylar’s help to save the world and keep the very fabric of reality together. Megan Crewe’s latest tale takes readers on a mind-bending journey through time with a cast of unforgettable characters.

Like many authors, Megan Crewe finds writing about herself much more difficult than making things up. A few definite facts: she lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and son (and does on occasion say "eh"), she tutors children and teens with special needs, and she's spent the last six years studying kung fu, so you should probably be nice to her. She has been making up stories about magic and spirits and other what ifs since before she knew how to write words on paper. These days the stories are just a lot longer.

Megan's first novel, GIVE UP THE GHOST, was shortlisted for the Sunburst Award for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic. Her second, THE WAY WE FALL, was nominated for the White Pine Award and made the International Reading Association Young Adults' Choices List. Her Fallen World trilogy (THE WAY WE FALL, THE LIVES WE LOST, THE WORLDS WE MAKE) is now complete and she has a new trilogy forthcoming in October 2014, beginning with EARTH & SKY. Her books have been published in translation in several countries around the world. She has also published short stories in magazines such as On Spec and Brutarian Quarterly.

I've always been a fan of time travel/time paradox books. That this one involves aliens and redefines humanity makes it different from all the others.

Oh dear me, this book was so boring it reminded me of ‘Earth Girl’.

Skylar had issues. She seemed to have a degree of OCD, with odd compulsions, and coping strategies similar to that of a person with autism. Nothing against people with these conditions, but Skylar kind of annoyed me at points, and she was also way too trigger-happy when it came to changing history. Think about what you are doing before you do it please!

The storyline in this just bored me. I’m sure other people will like it, but I just could not keep my eyes open. There was action – I was bored,

people died – I was bored,

we found out shocking revelations – I had to prop my eyelids open with matchsticks.

There was romance, but I really didn’t care what happened with that, the same was I didn’t care what happened to the rest of the storylines.

The ending to this was such a relief! I cannot tell you how much I do not want to read the sequel to this book!
Overall; dull, dull, dull

Okay, so, this book... It had a new twist in the way over "powers" and one that I found very intriguing! I'm giving this a solid 4 stars. There were parts where the main girl, Skylar, was just too much to handle and I felt eye roll after eye roll at her ridiculous comments and thoughts. At the end, I was extremely happy with the outcome (which I had figured was going to happen, but if it didn't, this would have gone down a half star, minimum). I look forward to the next two books in the series and will start it today!

I've been really digging this YA science fiction phase that I've been going through. I'm usually not a fan of the genre, but my interest was piqued by reading the blurb of Earth & Sky. Plus, I had heard some amazing things about Megan Crewe and I figured I should probably read something by her. Earth & Sky wasn't the perfect book, but it's one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and a series that definitely has the potential to turn amazing.

It's rare for a alien book to be dull and Earth & Sky definitely proved that. The reader is thrust into the midst of this world that is being observed by aliens immediately and from the start, there was non-stop action. Earth & Sky excelled at the world building. Not only do we have aliens, but we also have time traveling which actually made sense. I liked how everything really came together along with the plot and the world building. The plot too was beyond exciting. Unexpected twists and turns were scattered all over the book which only multiplied my enjoyment of the story. One of my only complaints about Earth & Sky has to be the lack of romance. I'm a very romance-driven reader and enjoy romances in my books. While there was a budding relationship between Skylar and Win, it was very minimal. While I appreciated the slow pace of the romance, the die-hard romantic in me craved a little bit more swoony scenes between them. I have no doubt that the romance will bloom further in the next book, so I wouldn't consider that a huge issue.

Both Skylar and Win were interesting characters. Skylar as a protagonist, especially, has the potential to be amazing over the course of the series. She was intelligent and took everything with a grain of salt, which was a rather refreshing personality trait in YA heroine. She also enjoyed Math which made me delightfully happy because it was easy to bond with her over her love for Math. Win, too, was a character I easily liked because of how genuine he was. I loved that he was so caring towards Skylar and watching a friendship develop between him and Skylar was very sweet. I did wish we got to know the secondary characters a bit better. They were slightly underdeveloped, but with the way things ended I think we're going to see more of them in the next installment.

Earth & Sky was an entertaining read and offered something unique in the YA scifi genre. The next book will feature of the aliens, I assume, and I'm already looking forward to meeting them.

So boring and confusing, seriously, what in the world is going on in this book??

PLUS I had a dejá vu moment when Skylar goes with Win (the boy) into his hotel room, like, right after meeting him---sure, it was a necessity, they were hiding from the bad guys, but still. Something similar happens in Scintillate, another 2k14 book I did not enjoy at all.

On a side note, I have a pet peeve about heroes and heroines with names somehow connected to the theme of the story---this is a book about aliens, with the title "Earth & Sky", and the heroine is called Skylar. Was it really necessary?

'Earth & Sky' is the fantastic first book in what promises to be a phenomenal science fiction trilogy. The story follows our main character Skylar, or Sky, as she goes about her normal teenage life as a senior and dealing with incredibly powerful panic attacks that happen when something around her feels "wrong." Nothing bad has ever come after these attacks, so Sky has found a way to cope on her own and appear normal in front of everyone - including her parents. Sky's world is turned upside down when she meets the mysterious and seriously cute guy named Win - who can finally explain what's happening to her and why she gets the attacks. Apparently the Earth has been a place for alien scientists to conduct various experiments that manipulate time. It's been happening for thousands of years and the Earth is beginning to show the effects of the experiments - it's very existence and reality is slowly unraveling right around everyone. There is hope though, in the form of a rebel faction of aliens who want to free the Earth and its people from being mere test subjects. Win happens to be a member of this alien rebellion and is on Earth to help find a weapon that their leader has left somewhere in Earth's time and space that will stop the scientists once and for all. Win needs Skylar's help to find the weapon and stop the experiments - before the world literally falls apart.

I found this book to be a truly refreshing breath of fresh air for the YA science fiction genre. There are so many books out there right now that seem to be blending together, but this one takes concepts and aspects of science fiction that aren't normally written about and melds them into a unique and enthralling novel. I don't normally read a lot of science fiction, especially ones that have to do with aliens - mainly because I usually can't connect with the alien characters or I can't immerse myself into the story. I encountered neither of those problems with this book - it actually had the opposite effect on me. I was drawn into the world the author created right from the beginning and I didn't come back out until the very end. The Earth setting in the book is just like our world today, so everything in it and about it was completely familiar to me and put me at ease immediately. I think that had a lot to do with the way I responded to the alien aspect of the story - I slid easily into the book at the beginning, which is just Sky's normal life - just like anyone's now. When Win was introduced into the story and the real plot of the book was revealed, it just didn't seem like that huge of a leap for me. I think another reason that I could get into the story was because the aliens looked just like normal people, and the concept of time travel is nothing new to me as a reader. No matter the reason(s), I was surprised at how much I identified with the characters - human and alien - and how I readily accepted the plot about aliens.

Speaking of the characters, they were all very realistic with distinct personalities and traits. I loved Sky as the main character because she was realistic. The daily problems of high school, friends, family and others - and because she suffers from intense panic attacks. This aspect of her character really resonated with me because I myself suffer from panic attacks, so I could easily empathize and identify with how she felt and what happened during them. The entire story was incredibly well written with a fast pace but an easy flow that has the reader inside the book without them even knowing it. I loved getting to know all the facts and details about Win's planet and his people - everything from their history to how the scientists manipulate Earth in experiments and how the rebels are planning on stopping them. There's a lot that builds up during the book that foreshadows what's going to be happening in the next couple books - and I can't wait to see where the story line will go! I'm already dying to read the next book in the trilogy so I can continue on the adventure alongside Sky and Win. I very highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction, fantasy, time travel, aliens, and those looking for a unique and mesmerizing first book in a series like nothing else out there.

** A big thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.**

"Skyler," he mumbles. "You're not just a tool."

This is gonna be a quick one because I need to get into the second book. Yep, it was that good. I really really enjoyed it especially the relationship between Skylar and Win. Yes he was an ass at first but as we get further into the story its obvious he cares for her. So much in fact that he won't let any harm come to Sky unless they kill him first.

Sky and Win travel to different areas and different times to go on the search for pieces of a weapon that can help remove the shield that is around the Earth.

Its a really good book and I would encourage anyone thinking of reading it to do so.

And.. I meant what I said to him. No one is going to hurt you, no matter what I have to do."

Now I am off to read the second book in the series!

Earth & Sky is a member of a genre that I don’t often read: science fiction. I’ve never really been interested in things to do with aliens, other worlds, and time travelling but Megan Crewe did a wonderful job with Earth & Sky. I was intrigued from the start and couldn’t stop reading once I started.

One of the draws of Earth & Sky is that it’s not super scientific or futuristic. It’s set in a world like ours full of people like us. Skylar in particular is very normal, just with a special ability. She suffers from terrible panic attacks. For most of her life she’s tried to hide them from people and learned how to deal with them on her own. However, Win tells her that they aren’t typical panic attacks. They are triggered by something truly wrong in the world, something that only a few people can actually sense, Sky being one of them. As for Win, he may be an alien but that’s not to say he’s not just like a regular guy. He just happens to have some really big jobs on his plate, such as finding a weapon to destroy a satellite. No big deal.

This is not the first book I’ve read by Megan Crewe and it will definitely not be my last. Earth & Sky reaffirmed my love of her writing style. It’s simple and easy to read making her books even more fast-paced than they already are. Her writing style also helps keep the story a little more simple since there is a lot going on. It would be easy to make Earth & Sky a very hard to follow story but that was not the case.

The romance in Earth & Sky was a bit lackluster. It was hard to tell if there was something blooming between Win and Sky. I don’t know about you guys but I’m a huge fan of romance and I actually like books less when there isn’t some steaminess. At first I thought there might be some romance between Sky and one of her classmates but that didn’t seem to go anywhere and things could maybe go somewhere between Win and Sky in future books but there wasn’t much action this time around. I definitely don’t think that’s a huge drawback but for me it did take away some enjoyment.

Overall, Earth & Sky is a unique science fiction story that can appeal to all readers, even ones like me who aren’t the biggest fans of sci fi. I recommend giving this series a shot and I definitely look forward to seeing where things go in future installments.

Spannung bietet dieses Buch also genug.

Ich war wirklich von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite begeistert von dem Buch und kann jedem der die oben genannten Bücher nicht mochte, nur ans Herz legen es mal hiermit zu versuchen.

This was a fun book about time travel. Time travel can get confusing and messy and just plain weird, but I think Megan Crewe handled it well. Her time travel rules made sense (as much as time travel can) and were pretty consistent. This book is lots of fun if you like history (I do!). They travel to several different times in the past.

I really liked the main character, Skylar. She's a bit OCD, but it just made her more real to me. She's not perfect. She's been able to sense the "wrongness" of changes that the aliens have made to our timeline. Win, one of the aliens, wants her help to find a weapon that can destroy the time field so that the aliens can't mess with Earth anymore. And (finally!!), a character in a young adult book reacts appropriately to being stalked by someone (no matter how cute he is!):

"I just want to talk to you. I'm sorry if I scared you earlier." He spreads his arms, I guess to show that his hands are empty. If the gesture was meant to reassure me, it's wasted.
"You're scaring me now," I say. How did he know I'd be here? He must have been lurking around the school after practice and followed me. What does he want?
My hand tightens around the phone. If you don't get out of here, I'm dialing 9-1-1. It'll only take a second."

Eventually, Skylar agrees to help Win, but it requires a lot of convincing and proof.

The bonus about this book is that even though it's the beginning of a series, you could read it as a standalone. There's no crazy cliffhangers and while it's still open for more story (and I'm certainly going to read the next book), this book has a satisfying end.

Time travel! Aliens! I didn't expect Megan Crewe's Earth & Sky to be such a fun and adventurous read. The plot description is purposely vague and I hadn't read any reviews previously, so I really had no idea what I was getting myself into when I began reading it. Time traveling can be so complex and go right over my head, but I think Megan Crewe explains it in a way that isn't confusing and you'll be able to understand.

What if Earth and its inhabitants were part of some grand experiment? For thousands of years, aliens have observed Earth and manipulated time, testing how humans respond to different events and situations. Skylar has never been able to shake a certain feeling of wrongness, but when these inexplicable impressions come, she finds comfort in the stability of numbers and counts in her head to calm herself down.

But everything changes when Skylar meets Win and learns that she's sensitive to shifts in time. Win is part of a small group of rebels trying to liberate Earth, and he needs Skylar's help to find the pieces to a weapon that will finally set Earth free from the aliens' machinations. Win's charismatic leader has left clues in the past on how to assemble the weapon, but Sky and Win will need to race through time to find the pieces before the Enforcers intercept them.

I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel, The Clouded Sky! To my immense relief, Earth & Sky didn't end in a cliffhanger, but there's still much to come for Sky and Win in the future. With such an intriguing concept, Earth & Sky is a thrilling, fast-paced introduction to the trilogy. If you like YA science fiction novels, you might want to give this one a try.

*My Thoughts*

For most of her young life, Seventeen-year-old Skylar has been haunted by powerful sensations that something is horribly wrong with the world. Skylar compensates for her occasional feelings by multiplying by three to calm herself down. After meeting the mysterious Win, Skylar learns that she's a rarity; a person who can feel time-manipulation experiments by alien scientists.

Earth & Sky is the first installment in the Earth & Sky series by Megan Crewe, the author of the Fallen World trilogy. Earth & Sky is a young adult, science fiction tale with time traveling, aliens, and a young protagonist who might be the key to helping alien rebels right the wrongs that have been committed against the planet. Surprise! It is not a post-apocalyptic or dystopian story that have become so trendy lately.

Another book that I was looking forward to reading. I did see a quick glimmer of hope with this book. Yet I can't remember what it was now. I barely got into this book before I put it down. The characters are uninteresting and the story is boring as well. I am sure it might get better but I had no reason to stick it out to see if this is true. Again I already stated the obvious reasons why I did not like this book. Which I will say it again for this type of story to work it has to have action and inviting characters all at the same time of being believable or it does not work.

Jumping Into History With Skylar

Ok, I'm about to get anal, ya know R.T. A 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata Convertible has only TWO seats not four as in the story, a single person can wedge behind the two people but not two fifteen year old boys! Otherwise it was an edge of the seat time travel adventure. With whisper sync the audio really adds to it, I am glad the is a book 2 to read next, thanks to Netgally.

This was released only 8 months after Crewe's previous book, and it shows. There are a lot of great ideas here, and with a couple re-writes to focus the scattered themes and make Sky a more interesting protagonist, I could easily picture this being on par with Fallen World. Megan Crewe is normally one of my favorite authors, but this is by far the weakest book she's ever written (at least, of what I've read so far). As the book is, it isn't bad - the prose is fine, the plot works pretty well (although it could use some focusing), and there are some very interesting thematic ideas. But I wish I could've seen what this book could've been like with some more structural editing.

I received this egalley from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.

I was intrigued by Megan Crewe's Earth & Sky from the getgo! I mean look at that cover! It's simple, yet the colors are so stunning! I love it! Especially with the moon so close to the cityscape, as you might know, I'm a sucker for a moon on the cover--have yet to figure out why either, lol!

This read was an interesting one, I won't lie, there were times when I was pretty confused over things. Mainly when it got into the time-traveling and scientific talk. It just got a little over my head, because it just got explained so fast and I'm struggling to figure out what the heck was just said! Luckily, this only happens a small handful of times. The information we got though, was necessary to the story because it helped to understand the reasons behind their mission and what not.

Skylar has the occasional weird feeling; a sense of wrongness. It's never easily explained, not even to herself. But then one day when she has one of these feelings, she also sees this strange guy she's never met before. He appears to be a student like herself, maybe a year or two older. Something about him strikes a different chord with her. And all too quickly she learns, he's not from around here. Or when. Try being from the future from another world! Yes, we have aliens and time-traveling!!

Turns out aliens have been watching the Earth and playing a role in certain things for all too long. Win is apart of a rebel group who thinks humans and the Earth should be left alone and they work on finding themselves a home of their own. For the meantime they all live on a space station of sorts. Win has come to Earth to begin looking for clues to the pieces of a device meant to put a stop to the aliens' monitoring device. And he needs Skylar's help, for she has the ability to sense the "wrongness" of time. Such as changes made in the past that had an effect on the future. This is what Skylar's feelings have been leading up to.

Skylar and Win now begin the torrential task of traveling through time trying to find the clues their leader has left behind. But the enemy is hot on their trail. The journey is filled with danger at every turn.

I have to say, that despite a few moments of confusion when it came to time-traveling lingo, this read was quite enjoyable! It was exciting and kept you to the edge of your seat! Even when I thought of questions, like Skylar when it came to her being missing in her time to go time-traveling, Win has an answer. So I liked that Megan did provide answers to the simple things that you would think of.

The action to this one was well paced. There were a few downtime moments in the beginning and throughout the time-traveling experience, but once the action got started, it was pretty much an incredible feat!

As far as romance goes, you'd expect Skylar and Win to have a connection of sorts, and while one begins to form it hits a few bumps in the road. I'd say it's a safe bet that somewhere down the line these two will wind up together completely, in spite of the whole human and alien thing. Of course, Megan could surprise us all and throw in another dude to make it a love triangle situation. And that will definitely put a damper on my feels for this one. But who knows, Megan could surprise me in that area should things change!

The ending to this, while not unexpected, was still not predictable either. It definitely sets the precursor for the next book, and that one will likely set us up for the finale as well. There's still quite a few questions I have running through my head after reading this, but I don't begrudge Megan that. It's only the first book after all! There's still more to come and I am so diving into the next book right away!

Earth & Sky was an intriguing read combing time-traveling and aliens. I can't say I ever read a book like that before, but I am glad I can say that now! Earth & Sky is fresh new read that will make its mark into the YA book world yet!

Thank you to netgalley.com for my free e-ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for my honest review. I was not otherwise compensated.

Content: Earth & Sky by Megan Crewe is a YA sci-fi/fantasy/time travel book with a vague overtone of dystopia and a little bit history thrown in the mix just for fun. Whew. I’m not going to recap the entire book here, you can read the blurb/summary for that; however, I will summarize: the basic plot is that the main character, whose name is… oh, no. I seriously JUST FINISHED this book and I can’t even remember the main character’s name. Ouch. Anyway, to be brief: there’s time travel, and aliens, and running from bad guys, and bad guys doing bad things, and angst and lots of close calls and a hint of romance and… you get the drift.

The good: Okay, so while I wasn’t convinced by the world-building, nor did I really care that much about the main characters in the first half of the book, the second half did throw a few extras in there and presented just enough physics-related time travel quandaries that things became a little bit more interesting. I have to say, though – I never really felt connected to the characters – although the author certainly tried to bring them to life and had some interesting details and definitely had an interesting premise for the book.

The not-so-good: Uh, I still can’t remember the main character’s name. The world-building was weak – the why of things was only partially explained (saving the rest for a sequel, perhaps, since it's listed as Earth & Sky #1??) and the characters were just not that likable, even though Crewe gave the reader plenty of fodder to inspire sympathy, or dislike, or admiration, or… nothing really stronger than those rather tepid emotions, considering the plot. What else? Awkward pacing – the first half is sooooo slow, and it only gets marginally better in the second half of the book. Also, uneven plot points – lots of details about the decorations for a school dance, but nearly zilch when it came to the “rebellion” that was threatening their lives. Elements in their lives that should have made the characters act one way, but they acted completely the opposite for no good reason. Worst of all: easy-out plot devices . Oh yeah, and at the end when

Wait… her name is Skylar! Wow, how could I have forgotten that name, especially given the title? 

Impression: In hindsight, I get where the author was going with some of the bits that were annoying early in the book (like people’s names, the theme of how our actions have consequences, etc.), but it just felt uneven to me. Still, it was a fairly original YA book premise and there were some promising bits.
Overall, 3 out of 5 stars.

An interesting YA read about a looming presence that saw Earth as an experiment, Earth and Sky was an enjoyable read. It had a couple of issues but, overall, it was a good read.

First, let me start with what I liked about the book.
I liked Skylar's character. She was perceptive and braver than she gave herself credit for. Overall, I liked her. Win was also great. He was charming and I liked how he learned to respect humans as fully capable people as he spent more time with them. He was sweet and likable as well.

The romance was light, more like a potential for romance, as Sky and Win got to know and mutually respect each other.

I really liked the overall idea for the book. The idea that an alien group would use the whole of Earth as an experimental zone was interesting and it definitely had me curious enough to stay interested throughout the story and be interested to see what happens next.

However, the were some problems that brought down the book.
First, I didn't feel like I fully got to know the characters. The book was so focused on the action that I didn't get enough of the characters. Also, it was a little unbelievable that Sky would so quickly agree to become a renegade time-traveler. Maybe it was because I didn't know her character well enough to believe it but it just didn't strike me as realistic.

The biggest problem, though, was that there were too many holes in the world building. It was a great idea but the explanation just didn't convince me. For example, apparently this had been going on for many years. While the aliens had originally intended to colonize the planet and just do a few experiments to make sure it was stable, they decided against it when their experiments started to have consequences. But, they continued their experiments. Why? Why did they continue to poke around at humans? What purpose did it serve? Why even bother? The only explanation I got for that was that the Kemyans (the aliens) were very set in their ways and didn't like change. But, I didn't feel like that justified why they would continue pointless experiments for many, many years. And there were a lot of other plot holes that just didn't quite fit. And that really brought down the book because I wasn't able to fully believe in the situation.Though I liked the story, I didn't believe in it.

Despite this, I did enjoy the story overall. I was curious enough to keep going and I'm still curious to want to know what happens next. I hope that we'll get more solid explanation and characterization in book 2, because I think this story had a lot of potential and I hope it meets it.

Earth and Sky was an overall good book. There were issues that brought it down but I was still able to enjoy it. I don't know if I would recommend it but it is worth looking up.

I’ve read quite a bit of time-traveling books recently. Is this the new in thing in YA? I don’t know but it sure feels like it.

Skylar, she has a pretty name, doesn’t she? Although my friend in high school had the same name and was a he, not a she. I like how she’s so skeptical of Win at first and his abilities. Her method of dealing with her anxiety/panic attacks is constant and I thought a good way of showing this in the narrative. I really loved her desperate need to know what happened to her brother and kept pushing for things. This was the most genuine and emotional part of the book which I thought was done well.

I did enjoy the story for the most part as it was fast-paced with engaging enough prose. The book had lots of tension and excitement to drive the plot forward and the chapters were quick and short. The time-traveling concept I thought was neat and I thought well thought out enough, but I’m not too sure about the motivation or the reasoning, or the logic behind it. There seems to be a dire lack of information regarding Win’s people and what happened to their world and how it occurred, and also them as an alien species as well.

One thing is sure, I’m glad that there was no romance in this book. There are enough of those “electric” and special feelings when they touch and lock gazes though. I’m happy that Skylar called Win out on his ulterior motives for being interested in her though. After that the romance or infatuated feelings sort of simmered down and remained a small reminder in the narrative.

However, one thing that did not sit well with me was the end.

All in all, it’s a decent book that I liked but there are other more finely crafted and nuanced time traveling books out there in the YA genre that are better. (Tandem being an example).

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Time travel, aliens, sci-fi, oh my! 3 of my favorite genres together in one book. The concept was interesting and I was looking forward to reading this one!

Skylar is a teen who gets powerful feelings of "wrongness" and starts OCDing by doing math in her head until the feelings pass. She gets stalked by another teen, Win, who eventually whisks her away in his time traveling "cloth" to help save the planet and all human life as she knows it.

This book felt a bit like a cheaper version of Doctor Who with a time traveling cloth rather than a Tardis. I guess a cloth is much easier to carry around and whip out so I could buy into that concept. I could even accept that Skylar would just go off with a stalker to go back in time, because, well... Who wouldn't want to see if they could really go back in time.

Once I got through those parts, the story got very slow and I struggled a bit hoping it would get me invested again. The times spent in the past just didn't give me quite enough for me to picture and feel each historical place and time. I would have liked more in each era to really get a feel of that time period.

The last 33% finally kicked it into gear when Skylar FINALLY realized she could go anywhere and learn ANYTHING about the past. I wanted to thump her from the beginning to remind her of that fact!

The story then finally caught my attention and kept me intrigued.

I could have used more world bulding as there are a lot of holes with the story and the time travel bits. I hope we get more in book 2 that will fill in the blanks.

Overall, this was a decent read and I will probably continue on with the series to see what happens next.

Thanks to Netgalley and Amazon Children’s Publishing for giving me this book to review.

17 year old Skylar has always felt sensations that something is wrong with the world and no one else notices. She manages to hide it from those she loves but she thinks she is crazy until she meets Win, and she discovers the truth, that for thousands of years earth has been an experiment of alien scientists who manipulate history. Win belongs to a rebel faction who seek to stop the experiments and he needs Sky’s help as she has the ability to detect the shifts in history. With Sky and Win travelling back in time to collect a weapon from Win’s leader, every change in the past can affect Sky’s life and the travelling in time is unravelling the fabric of reality.

Earth & Sky is a YA sci-fi novel which reminded me a bit of the film The Adjustment Bureau, which is full of action, time travel and is fast paced. However, I felt the world building was not the best, for example, the reason why the Kemyans are still experimenting was not the best explained.

I liked Skylar as she struggled for a long time with knowing she is not like everyone else and she was nice, but I did struggle a bit to connect with her. I really struggled to get on with Win, cannot put my finger in why because he was meant to be a nice and charming guy. There is potential for romance in the next book and I like that is was not a big part of the plot in this book.

Earth & Sky book has an interesting concept and would recommend to fans of YA sci-fi and time travel.

Aliens and time travel?

Um okay.

I liked the story I enjoyed it. I like the characters I enjoyed reading about them.

The whole concept though is a little "out there" I mean they mixed aliens and time travel together.

Yet in moving forward I liked the story enough that I'm so going to read the second book.

Don't know where it's heading but let's just hope that it doesn't start off with love drama.

Actual Rating: 2.5

This was an okay read. I thought it did not live up to the expectations that I had. Skylar and Win were annoying and boring a lot of the time. I could not relate to them. The story was not very interesting. I was very bored. I was a bit disappointed in the way the book turned out. I hope books 2 & 3 will be better. Overall, a boring read.

Unfortunately this is a DNF for me and I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to love it. I also had the other two books on my Kindle and was looking forward to getting stuck into a new series. The writing is superb and it's fast paced but character development needed work and I just couldn't connect emotionally to the characters or the story. I won't rate it as I haven't read the entire book. This just wasn't for me.
