Chase had first-hand experience with the shame, confusion, and dysfunction accompanying child molestation, so when she learns her brother is repeating their father's sins, she poisons him and raises his children as her own.
Ten years later, Chase runs a home for neglected and abused children. Her ability to match childless couples with the right child lends her a way to rise from her troubled past. Her nephew has only disjointed nightmares of his past; her niece is too young to recall any of it. Chase is the only mother they know.
But then the children’s real mother returns with evidence of Chase’s crime and a plan to take her children back. The truth could crumble the world Chase created, not only sending her own children back into the arms of an unfit parent but also threatening the lives of the children in her home. As Chase faces an uncertain future, possibly in prison, Stacy, her friend and attorney, tells her the only hope lies in jury nullification.
Can the people of Baltimore see that, despite breaking the law by committing murder, Chase did a good and just thing and saved many lives…including her own?
I am really upset with myself for not reviewing this book sooner! I was a lucky beta reader for it & couldn't wait for the release. I love April's writing style and have loved her other books. I'm not sure what made me think of her and came to see how this was doing. I can't believe it's been out so long and sadly - no reviews. This was a great story! It kept me turning pages and wanting to know the "who-done-it." Time to stalk an author, give my apologies, and beg for more!
