This short was another story recommended by a friend -- who thought Brochu's works to be quite likeable for her. In complete honesty, without her 'nudge', I wouldn't even get a second look for the author. Mainly because her publisher is not on my radar. I sound like a snob, I know, but there are so many MM books being released every day with different publishers, I tend to stick to the 'big' names 'cause it's easier to keep track and I would've known what to expect.

Anyway, this one was quite straight-forward! Gentry comes from cop family and his current assignment is to go undercover as a male prostitute -- no worries, Gentry doesn't have sex with his clients, he just stands on a corner by a lamppost not far from a night club. When anyone approaches Gentry, he takes them to a hotel room, in which that person will be cuffed and brought to police station. In a quite unexpected situation, the club owner takes attention to Gentry, and he ends up giving Gentry food and warm clothes. It was adorable.... and definitely not the usual thing I find in a rent-boy type of read. Dublin definitely has a compassionate heart, it was sweet!

When Gentry's identity was exposed I was slightly worried that there would be huge drama coming from Dublin (in the "You lied to me" variation). I felt relieved that it didn't -- although at the same time, I thought the drama would somehow added the spice over the sweet (it's not sugary sweet but it's still sweet :p).

Anyway, as my first experience with the author, I enjoyed it. I might ask my friend for more recommendation of her story.

3.5 Stars --Totally didn't expect a story between a fake hooker/ undercover detective and a club owner to be so sweet. I thought it was going to be a high tension-sex perfume in the air kind of story.

But it wasn't.

And...this story was entertaining without being nauseating or hypocritical. It was cute and light. And the solo sex scene was hot! Secondary characters? Great! Main characters? Likeable.

Gentry goes undercover as a hooker in front of a club, "The Pale" and the club owner, Dublin tries to encourage who he thinks is a prostitute off the streets. The undercover assignment lasts for weeks and both men can't help but fall for one another. Nothing dirty happened while Gentry was playing the hooker, everything was by the book. Surprised? So was I.

A gripe for me are the main character names - Dublin and Gentry? Boo. I kept waiting for one of them to claim their names were part of the undercover sting.

In the mood for something cute, sweet with a light feel? Give this story a read. :-)

This was a great novella! I enjoyed it very, very much. So much in fact that I was incredibly disappointed that it was only a novella. The MCs were glorious, HOT and sweet in all the right places, the story line was believable, interesting and easy to follow and the secondary characters didn't annoy the hell out of me. This could have been a whopper of a full length novel. But it's not to be and we will have to just enjoy what Ms. Brochu wrote for us, however short.

I can absolutely recommend this one to all M/M romance lovers, but sometimes less isn't really more.

A surprisingly awesome read! An undercover cop playing the role of a prostitute, draws the attention of the club owner across the road from his post. The sweet and kindhearted Dublin, does everything in his power to help and save the fresh faced Gentry, from life on the streets.

Ok, first off, after reading it, I think the blurb is way off and makes it sound way more dramatic and angst than it is.
Gentry is a young undercover cop, he is on rent-boy duty this week, we find out a little about his family and I liked him.
While hanging out at his lamppost waiting to pick up a John or a Jane ( are they called that?) the owner of the club across the street, Dublin tries to get him off the street.
When that doesn't work, he talks to him and brings him soup every evening.
It's a fast, totally angst free short, with a HFN ending.
I think I might have really really liked it if it had been longer, but as it was I didn't see enough of these guys together before or after the big reveal to really see the love ( or you know the start of it) and since it's strictly from Gentry's POV I wanted a little more of Dublin, although his altruism is very well explained and plausible.
So, I wanted it longer and for some reason these two very unusual names for both MCs sort of bugged me, but that's just me.

**Grammar**

This book is really too short to give more stars.
Gentry Trecall is going undercover as a hooker. He all expects, but not to find a man really interested in taking him off the street and not in having sex with him.
Dublin is the owner of the club across the street, he is a good man, and really wants to help the guys he sees each days sell their bodies, but he knows that in the end all of them go back there. When he sees Gentry for the first time, he knows that the guy is new and feels sad. He wants to understand what made the guy, that he thinks is barely legal, sell himself for few money. He hopes that they guy is at least being safe.
Days pass and he decides to go talk to him and try to make him change his mind. Gentry doesnt seem like the others, he is smarter, he doesnt do drugs, so he cant understand why he doesnt leave.
Everytime he sees Gentry go in the hotel with a different man his heart aches, and this is not the kind of pain someone would feel just for anyone in the same position, but he is falling in love with the cute and smart "boy".
He is jealous and feels possessive but Gentry isnt his, and this shouldnt be his business.

He doesnt know that Gentry is older than he thinks and an undercover cop. He doesnt really sleeps with the men he takes in the hotel, but arrests them.

Gentry's cover is blown when one day a thief tries to rob him and Gentry has to defend himself, and Dublin that like all mornings was bringing him a cup of coffee, sees it all. Dublin asks him if he is a cop and why he didnt tell him,and Gentry replies that now he doesnt have time, but that later he will explain all to him, and the other man asks him to come to his club, when he is done, so they will be able to talk.

When they are finally able to talk, Dublin tells him that in the end he never needed him, but Gentry replies that the fact that he didnt know he was a cop and really had wanted to help him, made the difference. Then he kisses Dublin.

Finally they can do what they had wanted to do from the first moment they had met. Be together.

They make love in Dublin's office and is hard, hot and full of passion. Dublin confesses to him that everytime Gentry had gone with someone other than him in the hotel he had wanted to break something. Dublin then adds that he now he will never be able to get rid of him, and Gentry joking tells him that he will change his mind when he meets his family.

The books ends like this with them being happy and becoming a couple.

Great short story!

Absolutely wonderful main characters and the 'undercover as a hooker' is one of my favorite tropes. Real sweet and I'd love to read more about the guys!

In this short story we meet Gentry, an undercover cop for Vice. His cover identity is that of a hustler and everything goes better than expected until Dublin, owner of the night-club across from Gentry’s post, shows up.

At first Gentry and his partner thing he’s a potential client but Dublin surprises them by offering Gentry a jacket and some food and telling him to leave his post before he calls the cops on him. Same goes the next night and the one that follows. Only the cops are never called, Gentry’s arrests undercover grow in numbers and a strange friendship is born between him and Dublin. Dublin’s insistence to help the poor “hustler” with no means in life makes Gentry realize that this man is one to keep, if one there weren’t the lies he’s forced to tell him in order not to blow his cover.

I loved this short. It was greatly written, with a sense of humor behind the lines that makes the read irresistible, characters that were funny and charming each in his own way and a plot that was just about perfect for the length of the read.

Gentry is the twinkish kind that while born in a family of cops, had a strong relation with his father and brother and an acceptance that is almost dreamy. That’s a reason for him to follow on their footsteps and become a cop, ready to do his job and stand his grown when his young and “fairy” appearance brought some unwanted trouble. His hustler role is hilarious in some ways and quite convincing in others.

His partner Trent is a character that makes an appearance and is quite entertaining with his lines and teasing.

And Dublin, well my favorite of the bunch is a big bear of a sweet man that has you instantly wrapped around his little pinkie. When things get revealed I wondered if the read would lead toward the melodramatic and disappoint with stereotypes, but thankfully it turned to be quite the opposite.

And as the blurb says this is a romance on the go and is perfect as a quick fix that will bring you a healthy dose of sweet, sexy and even hot feelings. Recommended.

Cops who go undercover and pretend to be someone else, even if it's only for a short time, do not have an easy time of it. Impersonating someone else requires skill, and, unless the cop in question happens to be an actor, or has some acting ability, this is hard. It can also be extremely dangerous, but to some extent, that comes with the territory, I guess. This story follows one such cop who is thrown into an assignment he really doesn't want, yet he follows through to the best of his ability. The emotional price he pays for having to pretend to be someone else when he meets the man of his dreams is high –for both of them.

Gentry is a man who has only ever wanted to be a cop. Portraying a prostitute is not what he expected to ever have to do, but he wants to do a good job, so he throws himself into his role with determination. The man who wants to "save" him almost makes him break cover, but he perseveres. I hated to see him hurting, and kept hoping he'd be able to set everything to rights once the stupid assignment was done with.

Dublin is a rare human being, full of compassion and a genuine need to help street people. He explains why this is the case to Gentry during one of their many nightly talks, and he is crushed when Gentry still doesn't seem to want to come off the street. The passion he unleashes once Gentry is able to come clean is scorching

If you like stories where the main characters have to suffer a bit before they get their happy end, if you enjoy reading about genuinely nice people getting their reward, and if you're looking for a fun read with just a touch of angst but no major drama, then you will probably like this short story.

Undercover Lover is a very sweet short read! The blurb made me very excited to pick this book up and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the undercover situation and the problems coming with it, hoping that everything would work out in the end. Interessting MC's with an actual story in Dublin's past explaining his behaviour. This aspect made the story credible and all points considered, I'm giving 4 stars to this great short story!

Aww. Such a sweet short story. I want more!

Somehow, this was simply right. The words, the heat, the kindness – even the loads of exposition in the beginning, setting things up properly.

So yes. More, please.

Ahhhhhh...could this story be any sweeter? Nope...I think it is perfect just the way it is...actually...I was beginning to think this was a rated "G" story (haha)...but as always...in the end there was some "hot" lovin'!!! I loved the way you got a feel for the "goodness" of both guys...even with such a short time frame involved and I have to say I am VERY curious about the "oldest" brother...there could be a great story there!!! This was a short...but very enjoyable read...just right for a quick break in a very busy day!!! I am definitely going to have to see what else I can find from this author!!! Ok...break is over...back to work!!!

I loved this story! When I first saw the $2.99 price tag attached to only 37 pages I wasn't sure, but after reading the favorable reviews I'm so glad that I did click "buy now." This was sweet, it was captivating, and how I wish that this had been a full-blown novel!

I really loved the plot and the different way it approached the rent boy and cop tropes. I adored the characters--an honest to god good Samaritan and an undercover cop posing as a prostitute. I liked the acceptance of homosexuality by most of the other cops and Gentry's family. All around, it was a big love fest between me and this story.

Yes, *sighs* a wonderful story. Highly recommended :)

I enjoyed the writing. And the story should be longer just to make sure that the relationship works for them, not just a one night fuck. Okay, Dublin and Gentry has becoming friends in the process, but I think it's weird talking about relationship and family at a first fuck :)
They're never really 'talk' when Gentry was still 'on the street'.
Kinda need a wee bit longer to make it more 'proper'.
But this is enjoyable, and I didn't regret my choice this time.

I always like these undercover as a prostitute things. I find them rather amusing, for whatever reason.

This one had a sort of realness to me because the dude didn't actually That to me makes a lot more sense than those ones where

It was fun and stuff.

Great story. No angst which was good. Really could have been and it would have made the story longer. Would have like to have "met the brothers" too, a fun way to have taken the story. Although I thought it started off a little slow, a little cliche and worried I wouldn't like it as well as a lot of the people here who read it liked it, it got better and turned out great.

***2 oh-just-so-so-stars***

The story was so sweet, not much conflict, almost flat, but - again - still sweet enough, sex was just so-so.
The problem is....even it's good and sweet enough, still...I can't feel the "connection" between the two characters....

Well, as a coversLut.....the story was not as I expected.....just so-so....

The only regret I have about this book is that it wasn't longer. It would have been a great novel.
The characters were good, the build-up was incredibly well done and the over all plot was pretty good for a short story.
3.4 stars (I'm pretty sure that if the author made a novel based on this book, it'd get a pretty high rating from me)

This was a very short read. I liked Gentry and Dublin and would love to read more about them. Gentry's family seems really cool. I wonder if there are more stories out there regarding this family. If not, there should be.

I totally loved this! Great story between hustler-but-really-an-undercover cop and bar owner, I just wish it was longer! I think this had great potential to be a bit longer, as I really enjoyed the writing and characters. Good story!

This is a very short book bot even so the main characters connection as well as the supporting character was surprisingly well developed. I very much enjoyed this...only could have been better is if was longer and the story either elaborated or continued.
