The Fury Clock

Rate this book
MAYHEM, MAGIC AND MANIAC DWARVES
Malix Shandy, the best-looking scoundrel in the kingdom, sets off on a hopeless quest to find the dreaded Fury Clock. If he doesn’t find it in seven days, he’ll suffer a fate worse than death. Teamed up with a fairly enormous ogre and a psychotic dwarf, Shandy starts to think maybe death would be restful after a week in such company.

Brimming with romance, exciting elves in tight pants, dirty farmboys out to save the world, and tasty roast boar, The Fury Clock will tick-tock your universe into goat-flavored, literary utopia. After all, it isn’t every day you discover the shocking truth about gnomes, dragon eggs or Instant Boots.

Here’s what some famous people could’ve said about The Fury Clock:

“A fantastic story! It played on my heart strings like a Cossack smashing a Stradivarius. I postponed overthrowing the Tsar in order to finish this book! Totally mega kudos!” V. I. Lenin

“Bunn’s prose is like snow falling gently on warm ashes of sacked city.” Genghis Khan

“This so-called writer, this Bunninski, he is capitalist peasant. He will be executed.” J. Stalin

“Oink!” Fritzl the Pig

So it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't for me. The humor brought out a few chuckles. The quest and how it all came together in the end was nice. The growing friendship between the characters was a nice addition to the story and the characters were mostly likeable. Pace was a bit slow and the side note chapters pulled you out of the story and the quest. At first I read them, then I skimmed them by the middle of the book I was skipping over them. I just found them super distracting, but there may be readers out there that enjoy that sort of thing and find the humor hilarious. I probably won't read more by this author but if it's your style, enjoy!

It was amusing.

I liked the light hearted writing style. There was a lot of silly nonsense overshadowing the rather blatant disregard of entity decency. Sadly there was no indecency of the naked kind.

A chucklesome and undemanding read. Got to the end without dallying with another book, over a few days of reading here and there, which means it’s plenty readable if instantaneously forgettable.

Very ok.

Sadly retreads a lot of the same ground Terry Pratchett covered twenty or thirty years ago, and frequently labours a joke.

So ridiculous, which is the point. I can’t believe I struggled through to the end. Great author and I love his other books, but I can’t recommend more than 3 chapters.

The humor is reminiscent of Terry Pratchett, while the story is wholly unique.
Highly recommended.

What an entertaining book! This book has adventure, humorous dialog, magic and every magical creature you can think off in it!

Malix Shandy is forced on a quest to find the dreaded Fury Clock within seven days because he is the seventh son of a seventh son which makes him an extremely lucky person at getting in and out of situations. In order to find it he teams up with an ogre named Blung who has a talent for finding magical items and a dwarf named Dweeper who wants to chop of his head. This interesting trio quickly finds themselves on a madcap adventure!

I was entertained from the moment I first started reading this book. The characters and the adventure were great! I was greatly amused through most of the story and never got bored with any aspects of it. The story and everything in it is just the right amount of over the top zaniness.

I would and will recommend others read this book. I am looking forward to the next book. I have never read a book written by Christopher Bunn before but I will be looking for his other books now!

I received a copy of Christopher Bunn’s The Fury Clock from Goodreads. It was a fun read, reminding me of a hybrid between Princess Bride and Willy Wonka. I’ve been reading so many dark fantasies lately that the light tone of the novel was exactly what I needed. I fell in love with the hippy vampire, the best take on vampires I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot of vampire novels). As with most fantasy novels, there is a quest, a company formed of unlikely allies, and lots of adversity. The MCs come through the quest mostly in one piece and mostly friends. I did not anticipate several of the twists at the end of the saga, and thus enjoyed it all the more. Anyone looking for the successor to Princess Bride (minus the true love), this is the book for you. I certainly hope Christopher Bunn keeps on writing more novels in this entertaining world he has created.

This is a highly entertaining and amusing satire on the fantasy genre. Very simply written but with a carefree style that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is a book that fans of fantasy fiction will find hilarious and long overdue. Those that aren’t will still enjoy the lighthearted tone and likeable characters, although may not enjoy the parody side of things quite as much. A fun, easy read, and one I would definitely recommend.

I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ever wondered why elves love poetry? How about how to be polite to an ogre so he doesn't eat you? This book is extremely entertaining and full of wonderful facts to help you navigate and survive a fantastical world. An interesting group goes on a quest with time ticking away. They face many of the species we all know and love from the fantasy genre. I was cracking up throughout this well paced and hilarious read. Well done, Mr. Bunn! I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and book clubs! For this review and others visit http://wonbooksblog.blogspot.com

When I started this book the only reason that I wanted it is because i liked the cover, and i know that i should never do that but I couldn't help it it was so different, and it had a pig on it and i really like pigs. As I started reading it it was a little slow and I really did get into the story until around page 70.
Once I get into it though it was a cute story not a great one but OK enough to were I want to continue on with the story one day but nothing that i'm rushing out to go get. I can say that it was something that makes me want to give other books by this author a try

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway. I liked it over all, but it wasn't really what I was expecting. I couldn't tell if the author wanted it to be cliched and poking fun at other such stories, or if that was really the way he wrote. After 400 pages though, it got tiresome. I would recommend it as a quick read for someone, but I think the author could have turned this story into a better novel.

I received this book for free from a give away from Goodreads First Reads. When I first entered I thought that it would be an ok book to read when I started reading though it was almost impossible to put it down I love this book the characters are funny and the story is well made. If anyone likes crazy stories with really interesting and wacky characters then this book is for you, but its better to read this on your free time because its hard to put down.

Laughter is good for the soul

This Bunn guy is absolutely mad, in a good way, mind you. This is probably the most enjoyable book I have read in a long, long while. One off the wall situation after another, and the dialogue was, I think, unique to say the least. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. In fact I believe I've known most of them at one point or another. Reading just for the sheer joy of reading. Oh my!

What a fantasy! In a world where nothing is as it seems Macim Shandy must attain the fury clock in order to save his life. Accompanied by a dwarf and an ogre he sets out on an adventure. Imaginative, creative and captavating that will keep you turning pages

I won this book on goodreads. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. It was funny, adventurous, and had the feel of The Princess Bride. The book doesn't try to be anything more than a fun time and constantly makes fun of itself. I would love to see another book in the series!

This is exactly what I wanted but didn’t know I was looking for. This harpooned the genre like only someone who loves it can. And he made it terribly funny and endearing. Love it. Laughed and loved it.

A lite-hearted fantasy romp. A human, an ogre, and a dwarf travel to find the elusive Fury Clock. Mayhem, madness, and hilarious missteps happen all along the way! I really enjoyed this! Since it IS a 'Book 1', I hope there are more coming soon. Malix Shandy is an enjoyable character!

Hysterical spoof on the way some people try to write, the overused cliches, characters, fantasy creatures, etc. yet, the story itself was entertaining!

A. Very fun book

Silly with the perfect amount of banter action and adventure. A tale of friendship and doom. It was an enjoyable book.
