The first half of the book captured and held my attention. It was a very novel way for insta sex and attraction. I had a bit of trouble understanding the near phobia the duke had of marriage and yes, I understand about the previous wives) ...but it was the plot, so I went with it. Enjoyable writing but I could see where the story was going so no real surprises. Then the second half....sigh it was waaaaaaay tooooo long. Plus I am screaming hey guys this is the baddie everyone can see it....why can't you. So, the second half gets a 2*. The end result is a 3* as no new ground is covered. Would I read this again....no....will I read another by the author yes.

A great read

This is a new Author for me and she’s fabulous. This is the second book of hers that I’ve read and fell in love with. Her stories are strong along with her characters and her writing is brilliant. I definitely want to read more of her books, they draw me right in.

When it comes to historical romance many authors either over dramatize the plot or make their characters possess extreme personal qualities (usually bad ones). I mean if it's a duke or an earl he will be extremely brooding and forbidding or if it's a lady she is either in distress or a wanton. This book was blessedly in the middle. I would compare this writing style slightly to that of Judith McNaught. It was a nice blend of Victorian glitter, strong-willed MCs and a fair amount of intrigue.

Ms Landon managed to make Grace seem innocent and yet alluring at the same time. Even though she was in trouble she didn't depend on a man to save her and she made her own choices. There was none of those small misunderstandings to ramp up the drama, Grace was always straightforward, truthful and ready to love her Duke.

Vincent the Duke of Raeburn despite his preconceived notions that everything that happened to his two wives was his fault and he is cursed is a likable fellow. He is charming without being sugary, authoritative without being domineering, rich as Croesus but not a show off. I liked him. He is very considerate of Grace's feeling, gives her time without crowding her. Seeing as in Victorian times the woman was considered man's property he was rather courteous and understanding. It was due to his life experiences that he had some issues to overcome. But overall I liked both Grace and Vincent in equal measure.

The mystery and subsequent suspense as to who is the villain was well-played and it was a surprise how it all turned out in the end. That last part was wonderfully written and this whole book is a gem and turned out to be a real page turner! I enjoyed myself immensely. I highly recommend it. I will definitely read more works by this author!

Oh emotions.
I enjoyed this book so much. Almost every chapter had something to be emotional about. What a wonderful heroine. I can't believe how much she sacrificed for her sister's upbringing. Her character was exceptional and I am very happy they ended up meeting each other. Both main characters deserved to be happy.

This story is for you if you like widower, spinster and pregnancy story. There are some dark aspects to it but we don't see any scene happening... they just talk about it.

Some things were repetitive but I super understood that fear is not something easily conquered.

Although at first listen, I found the narrator a bit overly dramatic, she grew on me and I was soon enjoying both her narration and the story.

I loved the banter and loving exchanges between Grace and Vincent. Vincent was the kind of hero that is easy to love. He's suffered the loss of two wives in childbirth and wants to keep his heart from the torment of loving again. The attempted murder part of the plot was definitely secondary to his fear of loving and losing again.

Grace had devoted her entire life to the well-being of her 6 sisters. In order to save herself from a horrific marriage she enlists her friend's assistance. Hannah chooses Vincent, without his knowledge, to aid in the scheme. Grace quickly comes to love and appreciate all that is good in Vincent.

All in all a lovely story and a well done audiobook.

Grace our heroine agrees to marry an evil man so as to save her sister. But she has a plan. She will lose her virginity so that her evil suitor will have to reject her. She pretends to be a prostitute for one night and she ends up sleeping with Duke Vincent. He is a very tortured man. He has lost two wives and two children to childbirth and refuses to marry or risk his heart again.

When Grace ends up pregnant he decides marriage to her is inevitable but he tries to keep his distance. He is afraid of loving and losing again but of course true love conquers all his fears and they live happily ever after!

Perfect read. I love a sweet brave and compassionate heroine and a smitten caring protective hero! Dreamy!

This was a very romantic endearing love story!! I can't believe how good this book was without sex scenes, well their is one but it is so brief its over before you can blink your eye. It didn't matter that their is very little sex in the story because the depth of characters and strong banter between them was amazing. You really feel like you are in the Victorian era. Its like watching a movie. Grace is the eldest of 7 girls her father is an Earl and he is cruel and wants to sale off his daughters to the highest bidder. To him they have no value because they are girls and can't be heirs to his Earldom. Being the oldest Grace intervenes and makes sure all her sisters make love matches. She has now seen to her youngest sister marriage. Grace has exchanged herself and agreed to married this evil perverted Baron, that her father has been trying to marry off one of his daughters too for years. Grace has a plan and to lose her virginity. Duke Raeborn is the lucky fellow who does the deed. He thinks Grace is a courtesan and doesn't know she is a virgin or who she really is. Vincent Duke Raeborn has had two previous wives to die in child birth and has made a vow to never marry again or plant his seed in a women again. After being trick into taking Grace's virginity he tracks her down and makes her marries him. Of course she is pregnant. Their is also, someone trying to kill Vincent and you will guess early on who it is. I did. This story made me feel great after reading it its has a Very Happy ending. I couldn't put it down!! and read it straight through. I highly recommend "Intimate Deception". It is very well done.

Her şey yerli yerinde. Aşk yerli yerinde, sevgi yerli yerinde, heyecan yerli yerinde.

Vincent'in onurlu mücadelesini çok takdir ettim.

Well-told Victorian Romance

Set in England in 1853, this is the story of Lady Grace Warren is the oldest of 7 daughters. Grace promised her mother when she died that she would see all of her younger sisters wed to men they loved. All are now married save her younger sister. To make sure their father does not give Anne to the pervert, Lord Fentington, Grace offers to marry him herself. But she is only buying time. Lord Fentington would never marry her if she was no longer a virgin and Grace sets out to make sure she is not with a visit to her best friend who runs an exclusive brothel.

After losing two wives in childbirth, Vincent Germaine, Duke of Raeburn vows he will never marry again. Now he only finds his pleasure with London’s courtesans. He never knew the bewitching young woman whose virtue he claimed is the daughter of an earl. Worried he may have planted a babe in yet another poor woman, he decides to find her. And he does.

A well-told tale with a noble hero and a very capable heroine. It’s a story of family love and treachery and second, even third chances. I recommend it!

OMG this book was amazing and so dramatic but so entertaining and hard to put down. I don't remember it too well because I am writing the review in December and I read it in September probably. It was so good I finished it in 3 hours and then the next day, I finished my essay on Haitian Vodou lol. It was a great study break lol.

I actually really enjoyed this.

The whole trope of an accidental pregnancy always sits well with me (only between our MC duh).

So our heroine is trying to get out of a marriage with a lecherous old man, who calls himself a priest or a man of God, where in actuality he’s just an abusive man who believe all women should be punished for the sins that Eve commited. So obviously she’s like, yeaaa….no. That ain’t happening!

So she goes to her best friend (a famous courtesan, who also, suprise surprise, is the daughter of that lecherous priest) and she says to her friend, I need to lose my virginity, because the one condition that makes me eligible to marry this man, would be to remain a virgin, as he would not want a ‘used woman’ for a wife. So yeah the bestie helps her find a nice man who would do the deed…so our hero comes in.

So here we have our blessed hero…..He’s such a babe I actually can’t deal right now 🥰 okay back to the review.
He has suffered a lot, more than most men in my opinion, losing 2 wives to pregnancy is a hard blow …a REALLLY hard blow. So obviously he won’t be doing it again ….or so he thinks (don’t worry he has a cousin who would’ve been the heir so the family line would technically continue).

One day he’s feeling …you know…so he visits the courtesans establishment and she sets the hero and heroine up together. the hero usually goes to her establishment knowing that the women there know how to prevent pregnancy and he always pulls out anyways so he had no issue with accidental pregnancy….but it wasn’t one of the usual girls…it was our virgin heroine😃 so this time he was confused saying ‘why are you a virgin…and she’s like please continue’ so he does, and he completes the deed by accidentally spilling his seed😉

He wakes up to find her gone and then he starts panicking (bless him) he knows what he’s done and is worried that she’s pregooo, so he demands to know her identity and the bestie tells him that he will find her in the marquess house party.

So there he is, at the house party, thinking it’s a servant or maid and he is ready to set her up within his own house hold if she is pregnant and would take care of her…yes he’s thinking that she’s from a lower class and he can’t technically marry her. Boy was he wrong. He then discovers that she is the sister of the marchioness and is a proper lady. So they notice each other on the spot and sis try’s to run away but he follows her 😭

And now he’s mad. Coz if she is pregnant he will have to marry her and it would technically be her fault, Coz now he has to go through a third wife and an immediate pregnancy which all comes with the anxiety he’s had to battle with during his past.

However, I like the heroine in this aspect because;

A) she made a point NOT to know who the person was who took her virginity so she wouldn’t have any strings attached to the man (lol, no strings attached….only his unborn child though)

B) after they discovered each other, she always made a point to prolong the discussion of a future together becuase she might not have been pregnant, so she basically kept saying ‘my monthly course is always irregular, we might not have to get married’ so it shows she wasn’t trying to trap him

and

C) after they discover she’s pregnant she’s very considerate of the hero’s feelings because she knows the past trauma he had to go through, so she had to keep reassuring him that she wouldn’t die (she’s the first born daughter in a family of 8 lol, baby making is in the gene 🧬) but there’s so much reassurance she can give him the only certainty that she will be alright would be after the birth so yea 9 months of anxiety for the hero, bless him.

At the start he made a point to distance himself from her, and not fall in love with her just Incase something bad happens, but the heroine was having none of it, she was like ‘I’ll be fine, don’t close yourself off from me, let’s still become close and have marital relations’ so they do.

Long story short she has twins (a girl and a boy) hehehe you know how I love me some twin baby-making 😉

Lovely cheesy historical romance

Quite predictable but lovely all the same. Interesting story line that kept a great even flow. I have to say I loved Grace. She wasn't a weak whiny heroine. She faced truth and was stronger then she ever knew. Vincent was an old bore and I am glad Grace got him at least to smile and laugh. She got him to live and love life and not just exist in it.

Sweet read! Again started listening to it, but after my horrid day at the dentist I just had to see what was going to happen.

Absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was an absolutely adorable regency story about the aa man who has lost 2 wives in childbirth and has made a vow to never marry again and a girl who has wed all her younger sisters and the only way to escape her horrid engagement to a despicable man is to purposely ruin herself. Except in the process she's picked a man who has honor and is positive she's become pregnant with his child in the process. She's convinced she isn't and soon begins a blossoming relationship. and is convinced he must marry her
Except, not everyone wants to see the Duke and his Duchess happily wed and with children. Danger lurks and from more than one corner....

This was such an enchanting story. I adored Grace and Vincent was just trying to avoid his fears. The problem was he's such a likeable character that you just can't help but root for the two of them!!!!

Lady decides that she has to lose her virginity in order to avoid marriage. Seriously. The guy whom she tricks into taking it feels obliged to marry her. Seriously? He has lost two wives in child-bed, and is chastising himself for endangering a third, yet is longing for an heir. Oh boy.
It was overly melodramatic, very far fetched, a murderer who talked for hours before doing the deed, did I mention overly melodramatic?
In general I am very forgiving with audio books, as in "I would never finish reading this, but caught with it in the car I am listening". This is what happened here.
Kudos to the narrator who went through with this, she was good!

I keep coming back to this book. It is not the best book ever written but there is something about it that speaks to me. I love Grace and her caring and nurturing personality...I love Vincent and his gruff but vulnerable character. Together two lonely and flawed individuals make an adorable love story. This is on my solace-for-rainy-days-shelf. Love it

I wanted to DNF this book so bad. I guess I felt bad or thought it could get better.

I've an issue with insta-love that leads to rush marriage. The characters were okay. The ending was okay, too. See what I'm saying? Nothing too special about this one.

Overall cute!
Positive: i liked the characters and the plot was decent (even if predictable) . Vincent was lovable, Grace a strong female character...

Negative: repetitive (constant dwelling on her deception as well as his traumas due to his wives dying during childbirth).

4 stars! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This absolutely hit the spot. I was craving something with: ✅ pregnancy trope, ✅ traumatised hero, ✅ a genuinely likeable FMC (non-negotiable), ✅ a plot that is a bit more unique, and ✅ historical romance vibes. This book delivered.

Let’s talk about the heroine, because she matters. If you’ve read my reviews before, you know I’m a FMC snob. She needs to be smart, self-aware, and emotionally competent. And thankfully, bless, the FMC in this book is mature, direct, and vulnerable without being a doormat. A rare gem. 🎉

Now the MMC… give me an emotionally scarred man with a tragic backstory and a soft side he guards like the crown jewels, and I’m in. This guy brought the angst without being an alpha-hole. We love a man who suffers attractively. 💔

So here’s the plot:

Our FMC is the eldest of 7 sisters, and their dad is human garbage. Mom’s dead, and FMC is holding the family together. When her youngest sister is about to be married off to a known monster, FMC pulls the classic big sister move and sacrifices herself instead, offering to marry the villain to save her sister.

BUT, plot twist: this villain is next-level evil. His first wife literally ended her own life to escape him. And because he demands a virgin bride (ew), our FMC runs off to a brothel and arranges to lose her virginity on purpose. Iconic.

Enter our MMC: emotionally damaged, reclusive, and 1000% not looking for a wife. Both his previous wives died in childbirth, and he’s still carrying all that trauma. But, surprise!, he gets chosen by the brothel owner (who’s also the FMC’s friend) because he’s the only man decent enough for this plan.

They have one night of passion (🔥), and then… oops. He forgot to pull out. Now his anxiety is on overdrive, and he’s off trying to find her, convinced he may have knocked up a stranger and potentially sentenced her to death. (Spoiler: he kind of did.)

When they reconnect, it’s tension central. Both are silently spiraling over a possible pregnancy, while secretly wishing for exactly that. It’s angsty, but earned, not just melodrama for the sake of it.

Yes, she’s pregnant. Yes, they get married. Yes, there’s danger and someone trying to kill them, and yes, the MMC is still fully spiraling about the childbirth risk. But amidst it all? They fall in love. 💕

Final thoughts:

This was FUN. It gave me just the right dose of angst, a hero with a real backstory, a heroine I could root for, and no miscommunication trope (hallelujah). Also, it touched on a theme that felt super refreshing: both characters openly longing for love, marriage, and family, something that feels rare in more modern fiction.

Not insta-love. Not fluff. Not melodrama for drama’s sake. Just a story that worked.

Lady Grace Warren had been protecting her sister’s from their father since the day of her mother’s death. With just one last sister to marry off, Grace made the ultimate sacrifice by telling her father she would marry the depraved Lord Fentington after her baby sister’s wedding. Grace knew the one thing she must do to forestall Fentington from claiming her for a bride and decided the sacrifice of her virginity would be worth it, so she called upon her best friend to find a suitable candidate to do the deed - a man who would ask no questions or make any demands…

After losing two wives in childbirth, Vincent Germaine, Duke of Raeburn, vowed to never marry again or impregnate another woman to die an agonizing death. He now takes his pleasure once a week at London’s most discreet brothel. The young woman chosen for him was a revelation, not only beautiful, but appeared almost innocent. Once Vincent woke up the next morning, he realized that the young woman had been an innocent and she was gone, and he was not about to let her get away.

*** It has been a while since I’ve been so involved in a story, but when it is written with a great deal of creativity with characters that are so firmly fleshed out with both motive and emotion, then I sit back and totally enjoyed Ms. Landon’s INTIMATE DECEPTION.

Not only did Landon give the reader a dastardly villain, but a most despicable father who had no morals in knowingly selling his own flesh and blood to a depraved and dangerous madman for monetary gain. Landon used this scenario extremely well in showing the Grace’s motivation in losing her most precious possession, her virginity to save herself from a short life of hell was in my opinion, justified. Knowing full well that the despicable Lord Fentington would never accept a ‘soiled dove’ as a wife, was Grace’s only option.

With the above premise this could have turned into something very dark - but the saving grace was the most wonderful hero Vincent, the Duke of Raeburn. After waking the following day resolved himself to track down the innocent young woman and make sure she would not suffer an unwanted pregnancy alone. Landon fashioned him into a ‘dream come true’ - not necessarily love at first sight, but the best kind of caring and honorable man which totally made me fall in love.

Bottom Line: The romance is as exquisite as the writing and in spite of the suspense of who was trying to kill the Duke and as it turned out Grace, one couldn’t ask for a better read than INTIMATE DECEPTION - a book quite worthy of my highest recommendation.

I'm reading this book for the second time in less than 6 months.....this must mean I love it, right?! I do! The book is extremely well written, the plot is interesting and moves at a nice pace, the characters well developed and relatable. The romance between Vincent and Grace is very sweet and touching.

Poor Vincent's fear of losing yet another wife and babe in childbirth is palpable. Grace is determined, smart, loyal, loving, and selfless to the extreme. She is also wracked with guilt at having trapped Vincent in marriage even though the choice to have him take her virginity was not hers. The story is chock full of excitement with murder attempts, revenge, and jealousy.

The only thing this book needed to make it absolutely perfect, IMHO, is an epilogue. In light of Vincent's fear of losing Grace in childbirth and his determination not to impregnate her again, it would have been so wonderful to see them ten or fifteen years down the road, still happily married with several happy, healthy children.

Vincent has lost two wives in childbirth along with his stillborn sons. He now only has sexual encounters with women who work with Miss Genevieve. Miss Genevieve's real name is Hannah, and she is a childhood friend of Grace's. When Grace needs to rid herself of her virginity, to avoid marriage to the despicable, perverted Lord Fenington, she goes to Hannah for help. Hannah pairs Grace with Vincent, the Duke of Raeborn to get the deed done, without Vincent's knowledge.

Unfortunately, Vincent realizes Grace is a virgin and tracks her down. When he discovers that Grace is a lady he insists on doing the "right thing" if she is indeed with child. From the very beginning there is an instant connection between Vincent and Grace. Vincent's devotion to protecting Grace is very touching as is her determination to be a good wife to him. Vincent makes a vow that if Grace delivers safely of the baby he will never touch her again, but of course, Grace has no intention of making such a vow easy for him to keep. LOL

If you like regency set romance books with more to the plot than just the romance, then this book is one you would definitely want to read. FYI, this is not a clean romance. Nevertheless, don't let the book blurb mislead you. Despite the fact that Vincent and Grace's relationship begin with sex, this is not a book that is bogged down with gratuitous love scenes. Happy reading!
